The surrounding area
The wide open space and stunning scenery make the Scottish borders a walker’s paradise. If you’re planning to visit our Lauder Club campsite be sure to bring your walking
boots. The 212 mile Southern Upland Way passes south of the campsite, there’s the lure of the Lammermuir Hills and further afield Arthur’s Seat - an ancient hill fort in
Holyrood Park - offers fabulous views of Edinburgh. There are numerous trails direct from site too.
Four miles from the campsite the town of Lauder offers a mix of history, scenery and sightseeing. Thirlestane Castle, one of the seven great houses of Scotland, is here. Its
stunning parklands overlook the Lammermuir Hills and the Southern Upland Way passes through the grounds. Visitors can enjoy a woodland walk, small formal garden and picnic area
near the castle.
A 40 minute drive north from Lauder will find you in Edinburgh (you could also catch a bus from outside the campsite to the capital or Jedburgh). The medieval buildings of
the Royal Mile and the magnificent castle are among its attractions.

Worth Noting

Eat Local
Shaws Butchers, Gilders Bakers and Williamson greengrocers all sell local produce. The Lodge serves good meals using local food. There is a farmers’ market every Saturday in Edinburgh.

Site is really great for a peaceful break.
However, the chalets are in desperate need of a "make over". There is a definite feel of the late 80s about them. The furniture is very dated, (some of it screams "charity shop") and the light fittings are basic, to say the least.
Safety is also a concern, curtains over the electric toaster (fire hazard) and an electric storage heater that is free standing in the living room (trip hazard for children/pets). The chalet, at first glance, appears to be disabled/wheelchair friendly with ramp access and wide doors. Then you get to the bathroom. A standard shower cubicle is fitted, which someone with mobility problems would probably find almost impossible to access.
Having stayed in other self catering units on other club sites, we have to say the chalets at Lauder do not do the Club justice!
We would suggest,
1. Paint the ceilings white.
2. Replace the outdated furniture in the living room.
3. Convert the bathroom into a "wet room".
4. Fasten living room heater to one of the walls.
5. Replace curtain in kitchen area with a roller blind.
6. Replace light fitting with modern led units.
Come on CCC, we can do better than this!!

Arrived quite late to a warm welcome from the site managers. Only stayed one night but impressions of the site are of a very quiet, restful site, large pitches and lovely surroundings. Like the idea of using it for a base to see Edinburgh and only an hour or so from The Kelpies at Falkirk which were amazing. Well worth a visit

Lovely peaceful spotless site. Martin and Ellenor are certainly an asset to the club. They work 7 days a week with no time off!!! It would be helpful to them to have an assistant and some time off. Despite this they keep the campsite lovely and are a very friendly couple. we hope to return at some point.

“We have just returned from a wonderful stay in one of the timber chalets at Lauder and have to say the stay totally surpassed our expectations! The chalet was incredible value (and we stayed as non-members in high season) - very spacious yet cosy, spotless and had absolutely everything you'd need for a break away. We were even allowed to have our dog stay with us in the chalet which was great. The site was very peaceful and perfect for the quiet retreat we were looking for. Easily accessible, a lovely pub right on the doorstep and incredible walking trails right from the site - all in all it's a real gem, we can't wait to return!”
