Overview
Think of British campers who love the Club’s Certificated Sites – and who positively embrace paring their home comforts back to a well-presented but basic minimum – and there you have this sleepy, home-spun little campsite, in a nutshell.
So, just how simple and basic? There is no fresh water supply on site – but you can get an 8-litre container of drinking water for less than a euro in the village. Similarly there are no bins or rubbish collection on site. Electricity is available only for stays over 3 nights, and the supply can dip significantly when several units are on site (some members reported that at its lowest it dropped to 160-170 Volts) and this can mean a kettle might take some while to boil, and a fridge may switch to gas.
And the positives? The site has a simple, small, well-kept washroom, the camping area is all flat gravel, and there are views on site across the surrounding countryside to the mountains that border the sea, which lies just beyond them. Mojácar Playa is a very popular destination with UK tourists, with many bars and restaurants and a long beach, while the old town of Mojácar in the hills makes a charming place to visit on foot. The small town of Turre is a short drive away, a mile’s walk by the rambla, or you can walk along the main road for about 300m (no pavement) then take an earth-gravel track for about 1.5 miles. Turre itself is a neat little place, with good local services, including one or two bars popular with the British visitors and ex-pats in the Mojácar area, and has a Friday market. The area (usually) gets very little rain.
The messages from members and campers on site are clear. Simple site. Don’t expect too much. Peace and quiet. Friendly atmosphere. Great views, day and night. Lovely area to visit, especially when the almond is in blossom.
Sounds like your kind of campsite? If so, and against our normal advice for all our other destinations, why not try it for a few days and see how you like it (always bearing in mind that extensions can’t be guaranteed)? You’ll be sure of a warm welcome.
