    Overview

    Our Hayfield Club campsite sits at the foot of the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park.

    This is walking country where you can enjoy anything from a gentle stroll to a more challenging climb.

     

    If you prefer the former, the village of Hayfield (the backdrop for the BBC’s TV drama The Village) is a 15-minute stream-side stroll from the site. For the latter, a walk up Lantern Pike rewards you with a 360 vista over seven counties. The walk up Kinder from the west side is one of the classic excursions of the Peak District. The walk starts at Bowden Bridge car park and takes around four-and-a-half hours.

     

    Catch your breath and relax at Hayfield. This is a peaceful campsite in a secluded location with excellent on site facilities including a family/accessible washroom, drying facilities and a children’s play area.

     

    The surrounding area has a variety of attractions. East of the site at Castleton is Peveril Castle. Make the climb to the hilltop where the Norman fortress sits and you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views across the Hope Valley. Castleton is home to a series of caverns including the Blue John Cavern famous for its minerals, fossils, stalagmites and stalactites.

     

    The Freshfields Donkey Sanctuary, Quarry Bank Mill and Styal Estate in Wilmslow and Go Ape! at Buxton Country Park are other popular local attractions.

    Worth Noting 

    Poor TV reception, satellite dish recommended. Some pitches may be slightly sloping.

     

    Aircraft noise may be heard.

    Local area

    Peak District National Park

    The area is steeped in beauty, rugged moorland and spectacular views. The Peak District provides an activity-filled day-out for the whole family, including walking and cycling routes, rock climbing and caving.

    The Cage, Lyme Park

    Originally built around 1850, The Cage at Lyme was a hunting lodge where the ladies of the estate could watch the hunt. The tower offers views of the nearby moors and was featured as a filming location in the supernatural thriller – The Awakening.

    Peveril Castle

    In the idyllic village of Castleton lie the rugged ruins of Peveril Castle, one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses. Ascend to the top of the hill and enjoy spectacular views of Hope Valley.

    White Nancy

    Built to commemorate the victory of the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo, White Nancy sits atop the Kerridge ridge. On a clear day, you can see the Snowdonia National Park from the summit.
