Rally Tips

This is a small, friendly rally, away from the big resorts, where as usual you have the freedom to partake in all, some or none of the organised activities as you wish. There is much to see and do either through organised coach trips (subject to demand) or your own transport.

Rally Date: 12 01 2019 - 06 04 2019

We recommend that you book your entire rally stay as early as possible.

Overview

Located in an amazing region, rich in places to visit, this very friendly site is set away from the busy resorts, in the 'real' Andalucía.

This small, pretty, verdant site, much loved by members for its welcoming, friendly and relaxing atmosphere, is set among mimosa, pepper, palm and eucalyptus trees on the Costa Tropical coast road, and separated from the narrow seafront by a gated bamboo windbreak. Castillo de Baños is popular with those who want a break from big resorts and instead a taste of the authentic, rustic Andalucía, with many members staying for 2 months or longer. The site is also convenient for breaking the journey between Mediterranean and Portuguese destinations, located just a short distance off the A7 motorway. A coastal bus service (often erratic!) passing the site also offers some links further afield, and while some of the mountain roads may be challenging in a motorhome there are many others that are less demanding.

Most walking and cycling routes locally are reasonably strenuous hill routes, and you should be prepared to use your own car or motorhome for shopping and to get out and about, in order to get the most out of this hugely rewarding area. (Please remember that pets are not allowed on coaches or on public transport.)

There are some wonderful regional attractions, including world class historic jewels such as the Alhambra Palace in Granada or Cordoba’s stunning Mezquita. You may have heard of the intensive greenhouse horticulture en route to this delightful site, but immediately around Castillo de Baños this is minimal, while returning regular members have commented that the advantages of the area far outweigh any visual impact encountered further afield. Many of the best parts of beautiful Andalucía are within easy day-trip reach, including not just Málaga and Granada but also Almería, the mountains of the Sierra Nevada National Park, the Sierra de la Contraviesa and hills of the Alpujarras, the Sierra de Tejeda National Reserve, and the many towns and villages both inland and on the coast between here and Almería and Málaga.

It's unwise to review our experience here as a package, in my opinion.

This review is for Castillo de Baños

It's unwise to review our experience here as a package, in my opinion. There are two distinct aspects: the rally and the site. Firstly the rally. The stewards on our two stays hitherto, Chris and Gill Steele tailor the rally to the site, its visitors and what facilities are at their disposal, many of which they personally have amassed over the years. If you join this rally and they are the stewards, especially if it's your first time, you will not fail to join us and many others in our accolade. Volunteers ?! Many a hotel manager, cruise entertainment manager, and holiday camp manager can't hold a candle to this couple. Would there be a difference without them? From the little experience I've had of rally stewards, I'd say there would be a difference no matter how slight. Many, I know, will return because of there presence or even follow them if they take on an alternative rally. The site: This is not La Manga, Almafra nor Marjal. When mentioning to campers on these sites that we're on our way to Castillo de Banos the retort will be " you're not are you?" When these sites are mentioned at Castillo de Banos the retort is vice versa. All I can say is it suits us. The staff are pleasant and welcoming and it's easy to make friends with them. The toilet block is cleand daily and the grounds are perpetually maintained. The owner, though a busy man, is not a stranger. I, personally find the site cafe uninviting and a glum place to be and similarly the cafe down the road. There is an alternative locally that people gravitate to, however. We would maximise our stay here, rally or no, and intend to do just that this coming winter. Geographically, walk out of your unit and a small number of steps to the beach. A couple of hundred yards and you're in the village where there is a friendly supermarket. La Mamola is within easy walking and Castillo de Ferro is a short drive. If you you can't live without big towns and hypermarkets there's Motril, Adra and Granada.

The shower block is in need of refurbishing, but is scrupulously clean.

The shower block is in need of refurbishing, but is scrupulously clean. The stewards Chris and Gill made the holiday. They could not do enough for us and we really enjoyed our rally experience. Lots of activities and trips planned. Although we stayed four weeks, we wished we had booked to the end of the rally.

We have had a wonderful stay on this site thanks to the hard work from the Rally Marshalls Chris and Gill. They organise trips and activities on a daily basis as well as competitive games which were a lot of fun I have not laughed so much for a long time. Nothing is too much for this lovely couple they helped us out when our fridge freezer had broken down. It makes no difference whether you are there for a week or a month everyone is treated the same. The local shop is an easy walk along the beach or the road It is reasonably priced. There are markets where coaches or taxi's are arranged by Gill for a minimum price. The showers are not the most modern however they are always hot another plus is they do not have the annoying push button that turns the water off.The reception staff are also friendly and helpful. Another plus is the bar has a happy hour a couple of times a week. We will definitely be back next year and it will be longer than a week.
