Rally Tips

A long-standing firm favourite, this rally appeals to members looking for relaxation, peace and quiet, yet with a good rally programme both on and off site. The rally has frequent evening access to the site function room which becomes a real focal point of rally activity. Reception and the supermarket are 200m away from main rally area (nearer to dog pitches). The rally has access to an excellent heated function room (hand rails aid access to entrance and to downstairs toilets) for rally activities, available to the rally on most weekdays and Saturdays (exclusive use of the room cannot be guaranteed).

Rally Date: 05 01 2018 - 15 05 2018

We recommend that you book your entire rally stay as early as possible.

Overview

An attractive and high quality site, in a tranquil part of this lovely coastline

The very well-kept wash blocks at Playa Tropicana contribute to its reputation as a top quality site with high quality facilities, while its location opposite a long sandy beach on a tranquil part of the Orange Blossom coast adds to its appeal. The site lives up to its name with exotic plants, palm trees and classical statues lining the roads, while a heated covered pool and Jacuzzi complete its excellent facilities. The friendly reception staff are on hand to help you with ideas for local visits, walking and cycle routes and local festivals. The adjacent restaurant is popular with campers and offers good value set meals featuring local specialities at reasonable prices. Alcossebre is a small, attractive modern resort with restaurants and bars, very sleepy in the winter months. Many campers use their own vehicles to visit Alcossebre, while others enjoy walking, cycling or jogging along the coast road. There are many places of interest reachable with your own transport, and rewarding outings include a drive into the nearby Sierra de Irta and to El Pinar mountain, to enjoy spectacular sea views. You can also visit ancient villages such as Peñíscola, with its 14th century fortress, and Villafamés, which houses a museum of modern art.

This is a well run site next to the sea.

This review is for Playa Tropicana

This is a well run site next to the sea. As we were there in late April there were plenty of seaside bars open and the town had plenty of tourists. It is a good cycle ride to the lighthouse on the far side of town and the walking looked good from there. There is a cycle route but you would need a decent mountain bike. The nature reserve at Torrenestra is interesting and the staff are very helpful. We were only there for 3 days and didnt want to participate in rally activities because we wanted to spend the time exploring the area but we got the impression that a lot went on. However this is the first time I have been embarrassed by the organisation of a rally event. While we were there there was a street party (nothing unusual there and we have been to similar events on other rallies) but this is the first one where music and karaoke was played at full volume for around 5 hours affecting a large area of the campsite. As there were families in adjacent chalets and other people trying to enjoy a peaceful afternoon I felt the noise level was unacceptable. Several people in the rally area felt they had to leave for the afternoon. The Winter Sun brochure is also incorrect as there are full service pitches on site as well as a good Motorhome point. Unfortunately we didnt realise this until later. I still dont understand why full service pitches in the rally area were left empty or used as car parks for the entire length of our stay whilst we were allocated a pitch with no facilities. We did question it but felt the response was unhelpful. We were not the only ones treated in this way. In summary, a nice campsite with good facilities (shower block is older than Marjal but even better!) but, unless you are going to the rally specifically, I would book independently

Our first continental rally, reviews had been good, although at times misleading.

This review is for Playa Tropicana

Our first continental rally, reviews had been good, although at times misleading. We were in a motorhome, and found that contrary to previous comments we could manage very well without a car. Grey waste tanks could be emptied at motorhome wash at the rear of the site. Tip, when we needed to empty the waste, we used it for a day or two out, e.g. we went to Peniscola and parked overnight at the free aire behind the Eden campsite. The shop is very good with decent prices. The activities were very good, don't, worry about getting or not getting involved, nobody worries, and it wasn't clickish. A big thanks to the stewards, they worked very hard to keep the activities fun, with being pushy.

Excellent rally at La Manga( there 4 months) now on rally Tropicana(1 month) Stewards here John and Pauline working their socks off with something to do most days. They work together very well which rubs off on the other campers.Very quiet, kind approach to their responsibilities with nothing too much trouble. Our stay here has been very enjoyable and we will seek these two out again next year if you are fortunate enough to employ them. Kathy Allen.
