    Great site for culture

Excellent pitches in an outstanding seafront location

A site with the best of all worlds. Ideal for families or for couples who like a well run and simple site, with great scenery and an historic and lively city nearby, Salthill offers smart hardstandings for caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents, with a separate grass area without electricity for tents near the site entrance, on the shores of Galway Bay. The town centre of Salthill, Galway City's seaside suburb, is on the doorstep, while Galway City centre is only two and a half miles away. Connemara is easily reachable within a short and beautiful drive. Fast growing Galway City is a vibrant centre of Irish culture and history, with its annual arts festival in July, the Claddagh old quarter and the Spanish Arch (the former regular moorings of the Spanish Armada). The phenomenal towering Cliffs of Moher and the famous rolling hills and limestone pavements of the Burren in County Clare, plus Connemara's renowned stunning lakes and mountains, and Kylemore Abbey and its lovely gardens, are all accessible for days out. Ireland's spectacular west coast is also entirely linked by the world's longest defined coastal driving route, the Wild Atlantic Way.

Location

On the Connemara south coast main road from Galway City to Spiddal, Galway Bay (beach half a mile), Galway City (2.5 miles, path from site), Connemara, Lough Corrib, Clare Coast, The Burren and Cliffs of Moher.

Local transport (2017): Buses opposite to Galway’s Eyre Square, on the half hour and hour 0700-2230 Mon-Sat; on the hour 1000-2200 Sun; last bus back to site 2300; adult single fare €2.20 (2017), half price for children.

Pitches

Some pitches with views overlooking the bay, open, with hardstanding and drainage. Tents on a separate grassy area near site entrance. Electricity 10A (not available for tent bookings).

Important: In high season and during other busy times, units may be doubled up on pitches along the seafront, and also pitched on the grassy strip bordering the water's edge directly in front of the hardstandings.

This review is for Salthill

The site is in a splendid setting and adequate for touring. The toilets need updating and 50 cents for a sink full of washing-up water is ridiculous. Directions to the site are fine until you try to find the Bodkin Roundabout which was replaced by a traffic-light junction two years ago!! So easy to overshoot as we did. There is a pleasant promenade walk into both Salthill and then on to Galway.
