Excellent as an overnight stop site due to its proximity to Ouistreham (Caen ferry port) and for visiting the D-Day sites.

Summer Rally here 27 May - 17 June 2019 - Find out more

Set on the edge of the traditional seaside town of Ouistreham, 2 miles from the casino and the beach.

Formerly the municipal site known as Les Pommiers, now renamed and under the same management as its sister site NOR09 Le Point du Jour in the Club's European Camping Holidays programme. The site's former basic facilities have recently been transformed, including the addition of a new covered swimming pool and completely refurbished wash blocks. As well as being a great base for visiting the D-Day landing sites, Riva Bella is extremely handy for stop-overs if using the ferry service to Ouistreham (Caen ferry port), which is only 1.5 miles away.

The Orne River canal's tarmac tow path is nearby the site and is great for leisurely cycling. The locality was the site of the very first of the D-Day landings, and you are well placed to visit Pegasus Bridge, its superb memorial museum and the Café Gondrée, all just 3 miles away. Caen’s Peace Memorial museum, all the D-Day beaches, and Bayeux with its famous tapestry of the Norman Conquest, are all an easy drive away. For a spectacular day out, try visiting Rouen, both for it's fabulous cathedral and for the Rouen Armada display of 50 tall ships (6-16 June 2019).

Managed by Gaëlle Labbé for the Seasonova Group.

May 2019: Our sites team visited in April 2019 and confirmed that small groups of migrants can be seen in and around Ouistreham, including at the roundabout on the main road next to the campsite. The focus of these migrants is reaching the UK, and they have entirely respected the campsite and have made no attempt to enter it or to use the facilities. They are frequently watched over and moved on by the police who have an appropriate presence in the area. The site manager lives on site, the site is enclosed and the entrance is also covered by CCTV. The migrants do not appear to be causing a problem for the campsite or campers, so we are happy to offer Camping Riva Bella, especially as a convenient overnight stop for the Caen (Ouistreham) ferry.
There have been a few instances of migrants attempting to stow away on vehicles passing through Ouistreham. Whenever your vehicle is stationary in a public place, be sure to lock it (and also lock any towed unit), even if you exit for only a few seconds and are standing next to it on a service station forecourt, and even if other members of your party remain inside. We recommend also that you keep doors locked when driving through Ouistreham (Caen ferry port) and the immediate local area.

Beach 2 miles, Pegasus Bridge and museum 3 miles, Ouistreham ferry port 1.5 miles, Caen 11 miles, Juno Beach Centre (Canadian D-Day museum) 11 miles. Access to the tarmac tow path along the Orne River canal.

Local transport (2018): Bus stop 300m for services to Caen and local beaches. Train station in Caen.

Pitches are grassy, open and part-shaded, all with 10A electricity. A few 10A pitches also have water and drainage, and there are also a few hardstanding bays (about 35m2, with 6A electricity) for motorhomes; both of these pitch types are subject to availability, and only on arrival at the site.

Low Season
Quiet one-night stop-over site for Caen ferry port and a great base for the D-Day coast.

High Season
In the traditional seaside town of Ouistreham and near the bustling coastal resorts of the D-Day beaches, so may be busy. The 'Cider & Dragon' Festival takes place in Franceville in September where the area can be especially busy, but great fun!

Worth noting

- Very handy for a one night stop-over if using the ferry service to Ouistreham (Caen ferry port), only 1.5 miles away. The site management cannot guarentee a pitch to campers arriving without a booking, so they ask that Club members ensure they reserve with the Club in advance.

- Dogs welcome

-Please note that some facilities may not be available for the full opening period of the campsite

- Ice pack freezing

- THE SITE BARRIER is open from 0630 to 2300

We stayed at this site for 2 separate nights in August 18 as a very convenient stopover from the Caen ferry after reading recommendations about how useful it is. We arrived late after the ferry the first night and was greeted by a friendly reception as the office had stayed open for late ferry arrivals. We hadn't booked on this occasion as it was a last minute decision but had no problem getting a pitch, were told to choose our own pitch and given barrier code and what time reception opened in the morning. The staff do speak English.Site had good showers & toilet block, appeared very clean but could do with a few more in busy periods. There is a pool which is covered by plexiglass and can be opened in hot weather. There is also a cafe and kids games room. Multitude of nationalities staying there, many were European and seemed to be on a holiday as opposed to the Brits who were just using it as ferry stopovers. There is also a few animals at the bottom, Goats & Chickens I think which kept our kids amused. We booked another night for our return trip, again no issues. There are quite a few migrants outside the site and on a lot of roads leading to and from the port which is about 10 mins away. There is a big Police presence at the port and we were never troubled by any migrants. There is a Lidl supermarket just down the road for stocking up on essentials. If you wanted a base to explore Caen & the Memorial & Cemeteries it would be ok too as the village of Ouistreham where the site is situated is very pretty. We have booked again for 2019 for 1 night stopovers each way again.

We stayed at this site from 23rd July for 10 nights.

We stayed at this site from 23rd July for 10 nights. Firstly, after reading some reviews having concerns about migrants we were going with an open mind, we felt safe on the campsite but my observations were the following. Just outside the site entrance is a row of houses with cars parked, I actually saw a couple of migrants walking alongside the cars and one of them trying the doors. We went into Ouistreham and within seconds of parking, our car was a very interesting subject. We had a meal in a restaurant where we could watch the car and witnessed lorries having the rear doors opened as they were traveling along the road. Anyone on the receiving end of a lorry door swinging onto pedestrians or cars would not come off lightly. Onto the site, the staff were very nice, the site has had new buildings and facilities, you could tell they were trying to make it nice. We had a serviced pitch, the pitches are separated by a few bushes. Unfortunately, someone near found it entertaining to turn our water off twice, no excuse as there were another 3 taps on the same stand not being used, we had an idea who it could be so a third attempt was prevented with some gaffa tape I wrapped around our tap. Our pitch was a perfect shortcut to the toilet block from pitches behind us and boy didn’t we know it, people had no respect for your privacy night or day. It was very noticeable that UK people did walk around and had some respect for others. And the pièce de résistance of this site, we saw the toilet and showers were power washed on our last day, I went to the toilet that following evening to be greeted on shutting the cubicle door by a nice green sticky piece of leaving present left by some low life facing me hanging on the door. So, unless I was desperate for a ferry 1 night stop over I will not be going back.

Ideal site for ferry, only 4km from the port.

Ideal site for ferry, only 4km from the port. Extensive modernisation of sanitation facilities had been recently carried out which were kept very clean by pleasant and very helpful staff. Large emplacements but some hook-ups need long leads. Outdoor swimming pool. Supermarkets within walking or cycling distance. Very handy for D-day Landing beaches and museums. Historic Caen is a short walk and 25 min bus ride away with William the Conquerer's and Queen Mathilda's tombs. Bayeaux tapestries not far away. Coastal cycle paths next to site.

Wants improvement t toilet blocks but the remain look a big improvements from previous years. May stay longer now as we have been many many years but not Caen itself. For first timers off the ferry go into the site round to the left upper corner as it will be little brit. If you have a twin wheeler the entry is tight.
