Lakeside setting in pine forest

A very well-organised site with superb award-winning adventure playgrounds. Located in parkland, with many marked-out walks and cycle paths accessible from the site, De Lilse Bergen is a great holiday base both for exploring some beautiful Belgian cities – particularly Antwerp and Leuven – and for keeping the most active of children amused for days.

Managed by Fons van Bael, English spoken.

A few minutes drive from the Antwerp-Eindhoven motorway. Turnhout 7 miles, Bobbejaanland amusement park 7 miles, Antwerp 24 miles, Efteling fairytale theme park (The Netherlands) 33 miles, Eindhoven (The Netherlands) 33 miles, Leuven 60 miles, Liège 76 miles, Zeebrugge 84 miles.

Local transport (2017): Nearest public transport 4 miles in Tielen.

Pitches are located between the forest and the lake; shaded and part-shaded; all with 10A electricity. There are a few one-night stop motor home pitches with electricity by reception.

Low Season
Quieter, with lots of space (but peak periods occur during weekends and Bank Holidays; school groups may use the adventure park for days out) – there is a music festival held every year on the last weekend in June (28-30.06.2019) and third weekend in September when the site is unavailable for booking.

High Season
Very busy, mainly with Dutch and Belgian families.

This site was unexpectedly beautiful, set in a secluded Belgian forest.

This review is for De Lilse Bergen

This site was unexpectedly beautiful, set in a secluded Belgian forest. The pitches are surrounded by pine trees, just a short distance from the site's central lake. The camping area is some distance from the extensive play area which looked like great fun! The toilets/showers are cleaned very frequently, but make sure you take your own hand wash (they dont have any) and put plenty of euros on the easy-to-use shower card system. Fresh bread can be ordered daily and the staff go over and above to help you. We would easily recommend this site and hope to visit again.

This site was brilliant. Easy to get to, motorway all the way from Calais/dunkirk. The pitches are spacious and private enough so you don't feel on top of each other. On site is a lake and play area free for campers to use. It was just brilliant for the children. Dozens of climbing frames and obstacle courses all around a shallow lake area that kids can play in with fountains and slides into it. All around the lake is a sandy beach area. There is also a deeper lake area for swimming with a large slide going in to it. All very clean. Crystal clear water. Only down point for this site is that the shop is so basic - no milk or bread or meat basic lollies etc for kids. You can order bread and cakes for the following morning however we found this very pricey. and if it isn't nailed down you are charged for it. I.e hand washing soap, plugs, etc. You pay for the showers via a top up machine/ATM which you put your gate entry card into and add coins. 1 is 5 mins of shower time. Or you can have a cold shower for free. Sanitary areas are well kept. Modern and clean. There are smaller parks interspersed through the pitches near the sanitary blocks for kids to use with ping pong tables. There are also basketball courts, tennis courts, boules areas and many more things to do for free on site. The campsite quietens down by eleven so no problems sleeping. We are definitely returning for longer next year as only had 3 nights here due to moving on to the F1 down in Spa. Was a struggle tearing kids away they absolutely loved every minute. You could spend a week or two here without leaving the site quite easily. There are several supermarkets nearby for food shopping. The best camping site we have been to yet!

Stayed for 3 nights in July. Staff in reception were pleasant and helpful. The pitches are between trees so some care is needed pitching a caravan, our motor mover was helpful. We enjoyed our stay and our 9 year old was in the lake and on the play equipment most of the time. We also had a stay booked for August and requested another pitch away from the shower block for our return visit because people took a short cut through our pitch to it, this was granted. The shop was useful for morning bread and essentials. Some activities are chargeable but we did not use them. One of our 2 days the park was very busy with children's trips, the other day it was deserted. A bike is useful for going to the play park and shop as these are quite a long way from some pitches. Dogs are allowed on the campsite but not near the lake or play area. There is a small fenced dog walk were they can be let off the lead, this is also a long way from the main pitching areas. Rubbish must be put in the sites orange bags, we were given 1 but after that they had to be purchased at 1 each.

Pitches good size but as they are under trees most grass worn away and soil very loose and sandy. You park at end of row not on the pitch. During stay had lots of rain. So some areas flood but water drains away fairly quickly afterwards. Lake has adventure playground for younger children and various things to do. You have to pay extra for these. Check details on their website. As had older grandchildren with us had to find things away from site to do. If you love cycling, walking great area. Small shop on site. However plenty of shops in nearby towns. There is a room with computers you can use. WIFI is free but signal very variable. You have to pay deposit for barrier card which you then top up for showers, laundry etc. Again check website for costs. You have to recycle waste and purchase orange bags for things you cannot. Found skating rink in Turnhout very reasonable and car park at rear of building. Also indoor go karting at Mol. Small themepark nearby at Antwerp.
