The big question is simply where to start? Australia is such an immense country that unless you’ve got months to spend, it’s best to decide on one area that appeals to you and plan a really good itinerary there.
For example, many first time visitors like to start in spectacular Sydney, explore some of New South Wales, then head up the coast into Queensland, either as far as Brisbane or Cairns.
Or you might head south to Melbourne and explore the states of Victoria and South Australia, taking in the Great Ocean Road and Flinders Ranges.
Driving on Australian roads is a great way of experiencing the sheer scale of the country, but some distances are so vast that leaving the motorhome behind and jumping on a plane or a train is the most economical way to travel.
You can then pick up either another motorhome, or a car, to carry on your journey. So Uluru, Darwin and the Northern Territory, or laid back Western Australia, are all possible too.
