This is an international tour operated by The Camping & Caravanning Club and our partners ACSI, the Dutch camping and caravanning organisation. This tour gives members the opportunity to tour with like-minded campers and caravanners from both the UK and the Netherlands.
Tour highlights
This tour takes you to the unspoilt island of Sicily in the Mediterranean sea; home to Greek temples, Roman theatres and wonderful cuisine. Highlights include:
Excursion to the UNESCO Valley of the Temples in Agrigento
Excursion to Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe
Joint visit to a Mozzarella farm and the temples and museum of Paestum

Tour itinerary
Day 1
Arrive on the campsite in Bracciano, Rome and meet your fellow tour members and Dutch tour escorts. In the evening there will be a group welcome meal on site.

Day 2
Leave the campsite and travel to Paestum (220 miles).

Day 3
A morning joint visit (own vehicles used) to a mozzarella farm and in the afternoon a joint visit (own vehicles used) to three of the best preserved temples in Italy in Paestum and the archaeological museum.

Day 4
Travel to Marina di Nicotera (245 miles).

Day 5
Day at leisure in Marina di Nicotera on the Tyrrenian coast. You could visit Tropea, one of the prettiest old towns in this region.

Day 6
Travel to Villa San Giovanni for the short ferry crossing to Messina, Sicily. Once desembarked at Sicily continue on to Finale di Pollina (135 miles).

Day at leisure in Finale di Pollina, with the opportunity to relax on the beach or explore the local area.

Day 8
Half day excursion by coach to the picturesque little town of Cefalù. Lunch (included) in a local restaurant located in the mountains.

Full day excursion by coach to Palermo visiting the beautiful twelfth century Paletine Chapel, San Giovanni degli Eremiti and Monreale – famous for its orange, almond and olive trees and its cathedral.

Travel to San Vito lo Capo (120 miles).

Day at leisure in San Vito lo Capo. Nature lovers may wish to spend a day in Lo Zingaro, a most fascinating nature reserve in this north-east area of Sicily where you can enjoy walking, bathing in the sea or observing the wildlife.

Day 13
Day excursion by coach to the medieval town of Erice which is perched over 715 metres above sea level with a maze of cobbled streets and over 60 churches. There will also be a visit to the fifth century limestone Greek temple Segesta, lunch is included.

Travel to Seccagrande di Ribera (95 miles).

Day at leisure to relax on the beach or why not visit the Greek temples of Selinunte – whose ruins have stood for over two thousand years on this site overlooking the sea?

Day 17
A full day excursion by coach, starting with one of the main attractions in Sicily: the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento – a UNESCO world heritage site. After lunch (included) there will be a walk along the beach to see the “Scala dei Turchi”, the unusual white rocky cliffs.

Day 19
Travel to Piazza Armerina (85 miles) where you will stay at an Agriturismo; a rural farm that welcomes tourists. In the evening there will be a group meal.

Travel to Avola (103 miles).

Day 21
Day excursion by coach to Siracusa visiting the archaeological site which is home to many ruins including the Greek theatre which dates back to the fifth century BC and the large limestone cave known as the “the Ear of Dionusius”. There will also be a visit to Ortygia – the island at the heart of Sircusa where you can stroll amongst the baroque churches. Lunch is included.

Day at leisure in Avola. Why not take the time to visit Noto, famous for its fine buildings in the Sicilian baroque style?

Travel to Fondachello di Mascali (70 miles).

Coach excursion to visit Mount Etna, the largest, active volcano in Europe.

Coach excursion to the charming old town of Taormino, where you will visit the stunning Greco-roman theatre. There will also be a visit to see the Gola d’Alcantara, an impressive gorge formed millions of years ago.

Drive to Messina where you will take the ferry back to the mainland of Italy and continue on to Praia a Mare (200 miles).

Travel to Pompei (120 miles).
