What a gem. On arrival at the site, Karen came out to greet me unprompted. The welcome was very warm; I was shown a selection of different pitches and invited to chose one which best suited me. The location of all the facilities was clearly explained to me and I was offered a morning newspaper.
On site, I was near to the facilities block so the loo, shower, CDP and waste water were only a few yards away. The standard of the showers and toilets was outstanding, more in line with what you would experience in a hotel rather than a campsite.
Noise was at a minimum - it's not the sort of site that attracts "revellers", some road noise was present from the nearby A1071 although this was not obtrusive. A cockrel crowing woke me up on the Sunday morning and reminded me I was in the countryside!
The surrounding area has some stunning views and plenty of places to walk and cycle.
All in all, this is a superb site in a picturesque part of the country. The C&CC should be doubly proud of the site and its hosts; it will be my pleasure to return at a future date.

We intended to stay for a few days but the combination of good weather and an excellent peaceful site led us to stay longer. It is always great to receive a warm and friendly welcome, and this, coupled with excellent facilities in a really pleasant area with plenty to see and do, mean we definitely want to come back. As motorhomers, we appreciated the good design of the Service Point, and we made good use of the local bus service. The walk through the woods to Polstead is also a pleasant diversion.

From our own perspective, this site was ideal. We were able to leave our motorhome on the site and visit the local area by bus using our bus passes. The bus stop is 100 yards from the site entrance. Buses run to Sudbury in one direction and Ipswich in the other direction. From these points link buses run to Lavenham, Colchester and many other places. There are lovely walks from the site with maps available in the site shop. We booked for 5 days and stsyed for 10. We had no complaints at all and will certainly return.

A beautiful small site with a great couple running it. Plenty of lovely countryside to explore and quite a few country houses to visit. Nearby is Lavenham (Tudor village) and a must to visit. The only down-side was the close proximity of the main road. But we did not notice the road noise when inside the caravan.

Our third holiday at this site. Yet again it was fantastic. Karen and Greg are the perfect hosts. The shop has everything that one needs, the toilets and showers are like a 5* hotel, always lots of hot water, very warm and exceptionally clean. There is never any litter anywhere, the dog walk area is perfect (we have two dogs!)Lots of places to visit that are not too far away. Thank you Greg and Karen, we shall be visiting you again in the very near future!

This was our first visit to Polstead, but are planning another this month (Sept). What a gem of a site, Greg and Karen are very welcoming and helpful. The site is clean and tidy and very pretty, lots of flower baskets etc. The toilet and shower block are the best we have ever seen, and the fish and chips on a saturday delivered to your van, what more could you ask. If you are retired like us the bonus is a bus stop at the end of the road, going to Sudbury one way and Ipswich the other, and you can use your bus pass, what a bargain. Cant wait to get back

This is a site where the owners have taken the best practice for design and customer service and put it all together in one place. The welcome and help is excellent. The site and local information sheet is comprehensive. Positioning the van with Greg's support is completely stress free. The toilets and showers are among the very best we have used on campsites at home and abroad, free wi fi (for a donation to the flower fund) is most welcome. On top of all of this, the location is great, there are lots of places to visit and things to do in the area. We will certainly be returning to this site for short breaks.

Brilliant site. Very clean and well laid out. The site owners couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and all the services and amenities you could need are provided even down to individual sachets of washing liquid to put in the machine rather than buying a whole box for one wash.
Really nice showers and toilets and apparently there's free wifi but we couldn't pick it up from the far end of the campsite where we pitched. If you really need wifi, ask for a pitch close to the office and it should be fine.
There's a decent pub 5 mins walk away but other than that and the site shop for basics, nowhere to buy provisions in walking distance. Having said that though, on Saturdays you can have fish and chips delivered directly to your tent!
We loved it and will definitely come back.

We stayed for 3 nights at Polstead, as we live within 35 mins of the site were looking for somewhere to go locally for the weekend after picking our caravan up from its service. Why have we not been here before? It is a million miles from Colchester where we live but 35 mins towing. My other half has done the c&cc towing course but not confident at all until we met Greg who was amazing with his directions and now I cannot stop him reversing everywhere. The facilities were spotless-fresh-and not closed for too long for cleaning. The pitch amazing, hard standing with a low fence and shrubs met lots of interesting people. Local places of interest are great but we went to none as we live down the road. We will be back soon to finish the woodland walk.

This was the first site we have been to and the owner was very helpful, showing us to our pitch. The toilets and showers were exceptional and the little on-site shop was very useful. It is a large site, well laid out, with hedges to divide it up.
We would probably prefer a smaller site, but this one did very well for a large one.

This is the first site we have visited when the owners were more interested in what we wanted from our visit than merely taking the fees. Greg and Karen were always friendly and welcoming and made us feel completely at home.
Their provision of a FREE Wi-Fi service is unique and should be made available at all other club sites rather than being fee based. If they can do it why not the others.
The only risk on this site is that you have to be careful of the free range chickens. We would most certainly return to this site just for the warm welcome never mind the wonderful Suffolk contryside.

Spent two weeks on this site in July, Greg and Karen are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble. We were guided on pitch by Greg who is excellent with the left and right hand down making pitching a breeze. The facilities are superb and spotless. Pub at the top of the road is good grub but for something a bit more special at a reasonable price the Cock Inn is superb. Suffolk is a very pretty county with plenty of countryside around the site and Lavenham is a must visit village (excellent guided tours). All in all a well run well kept site there is some road noise but this is not obtrusive and certainly didnt bother us. We will return.

Lovely friendly welcome, excellent clean modern washrooms - great showers! Never been to Suffolk before and we enjoyed the lovely villages and Constable country. Site well laid out but some road noise on the camping field. This was our first visit to this site and we received an extremely friendly greeting from Greg & Karen. We were offered a choice of pitches and even guided into the pitch we finally chose. Our pitch, in the top field where reception and the shower block is, had trees and bushes on 3 sides and, like the whole site, was maintained to a very high standard. The facilities block has been totally refurbished in the past 12 months and was absolutely spotless and extremely well appointed. The shop stocked a surprisingly large amount of `bits and pieces`, including locally baked fresh bread. A wealth of leaflets and brochures about the local area and its numerous attractions could also be found in the shop. Printed walks were also available, one of which we took to the local village, through the woods - fantastic. The pub, The Cock Inn, in Polstead offered great food and a discount for those on site. Free WIFI is available with a small donation to the sites "flower maintenance fund" asked for in return - money well spent. Fish and chips were organised by Greg & Karen on Saturday evening - delivered to your caravan/motorhome/tent as well - what more could you want? For our Beardies, Greg showed us where we could walk them through local land owners fields, which allowed us a few very enjoyable summer evening walks. All in all a fabulous site but one slight criticism.....its 200 miles from home!! Go and visit now.

Good dog walk from the site, they have negotiated with a local farm but must keep dogs on leads. I have walked for over an hour from the site, seen fox. And on three separate occasions I have seen deer and on one day a mother and fawn. Wow! This site is very good and we will be coming back.

After years of camping we have now decided to get a caravan and the first site we stopped on was Polstead. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. What a lovely couple Karen and Greg are. They showed us to our pitch and then Greg said you are going to reverse the caravan in. I went to get out of the car but he said no you can do it. With his help, right hand down a bit, left hand down etc I reversed the caravan with no problem. Can I take Greg with me on all my holidays!!!! The showers and toilets were immaculate. The site was very well looked after. If you had any questions they would do there best to answer them. I would have no worries about recommending this site and look forward to going again. Thank you Karen and Greg.

A quick feedback on our first booking as a club member: this is a well laid out site, kept very clean with helpful information by owners. HOWEVER, we would not return as we found the road noise disturbing at night, sometimes feeling the traffic was passing right through the field. It was probably more noticeable as we were in a tent. We didn't feel it would be any different if in another field which was a shame as a good location.

Just returned from this lovely site. Wardens extremely friendly and helpful - they even personally deliver your fish and chips to your van on a Saturday night!
Site very clean and well laid out with grass and hardstanding large pitching areas. Everywhere well maintained and clean. Wash block was a very high standard, always clean and immaculate. We stayed on the paddock which is relatively new and quiet. There is another area where a small play area is for the children but mainly this is a good site for peace and quiet and relaxation. The only noise you will hear is the sound of the cockerel waking everyone up (for us it was 4 in the morning and again at 7!)and a little noise from the road but this isn't very busy so you don't notice it.
There is a good pub just up the road from the site which serves an excellent carvery (you can walk to this although if returning late at night be aware that there are no street lamps back to the site.) There is another pub about a mile away reached by a lovely walk through the woods directly from the site.
This site is definitely worth visiting and we will be booking again very soon.

A beautifully maintained site run by wonderfully friendly and helpful owners. The site is quite small but well laid out and, despite some reviews, exceedingly quiet at night despite the road nearby. Mind you, the cockerel on site was very vocal on a summer's early morning! A very minor criticism is the strange access to the central facilities - the pebble paths do not go where you logically go to the chemical disposal point, and the motorhome services has no direct access to the CDP either. Nit picky I know, but the morning cassette can be heavy as wheels don't work on the pebble paths and roadways! The quickest route seemed to be always across another person's pitch!

We come a long way down from Scotland and have used this site at least 5 times and have been on different positions each time. In all cases the plot was good. We have never noticed any road noise, certainly it has not intruded on us. The site owners/wardens have made a real effort to be welcoming and helpful and keep the site in an immaculate condition. Our satnav always want to take us here by other routes but we check with a map and the site instructions to ensure we come by good roads. Strangely close to the site entrance the satnav always wants to send us in the opposite direction!! The free wifi on site is a boon. The area abounds with places to visit - history all around. We could camp nearer to our family when we come down but it says something for this site that we choose it despite being half an hour further away.
A very friendly site and even in bad weather, a pleasure to be on.

The new shower block was excellent, very clean and no problem with hot water. The showers have an area to change in and were first class. We had a wonderful 4 night stay. We could not stay longer as the site was booked over the bank holiday period and we were very lucky to get in. We would definately go back there again and again. The pitches afford privacy, well maintained and the welcome was second to none. They were very helpful and kind. We loved it there and it is the best site we have ever stayed on. If you want a nice relaxing time in very pleasant surroundings then go to this site. The layout is so clever that you have total privacy and peace and the local pubs are good too. There are some good walks and the shower facilities are excellent. The little chickens are an extra joy as they are let out each morning and visit everyone on site. We did hear an occasional car on the main road but you are so relaxed it is of no consequence. Thank you Greg and Karen we loved it and we WILL be back.

This was the first time I had stayed on any campsite in my newly acquired motorhome. As has been said the welcome is very friendly and I found the site managers very helpful. The facilities block is excellent – modern and clean. The main road does run close to the site and there is traffic noise but personally I didn't really notice it that much. Away from the road the area itself is very quiet with local villages just a short walk or cycle ride away. There are also bus services available to Sudbury, Hadleigh, Ipswich etc. if you want to travel further afield.

Our first visit to this site, the welcome was extremely friendly and we were shown to our pitch and assisted in siting of van. Toilets and showers are excelent and kept spotless. Pitch was large and sunny. Good dog walks from the site and in surrounding area. An excellent site and we will definitely be returning many times.

Although I requested a jumbo sized pitch for our tent well in advance of our stay, and was told we would be accommodated in the new field, and then checked all was still OK a week before our stay, I wasn't impressed that we appeared to have been overlooked when we actually arrived, and were squeezed onto a rather narrow strip of land. This despite there appearing to be space in the new field. I felt we were a bit of a nuisance having a large tent, especially when I was asked if we could not erect it fully!!

New Year at Polstead just gets better and better! For the second year running we enjoyed the fun and talent of the very welcoming hosts, Greg and Karen and their family. We were impressed by the improved party accommodation and the addition of a live band and there is something particularly lovely about the BYO food which lets everyone feel like the party is all about joining in, which young and old alike enjoyed into the early hours. We'll be back. Thanks again.

We were very impressed by the friendly greeting on arrival and the neat and tidy appearance of the site. After being shown to our pitch and helped into position by the warden we ventured to the wash block and were truely amazed by the standard and cleanliness. We found plenty to do in the area and enjoyed a nice stroll to the local pub and had a very pleasent meal.

Simply the best site we've used in the Uk ! Very Pleasant greeting at reception & help parking 'van. Great pitch layout, all marked pitches with clear boundary . Modern and spotless Shower/toilet block. Very good general location in a beautiful area very close to 'Counstable Country'.
Other reviews note traffic noise while there is some noise we did not find it a problem and hardly noticed.
Plenty of Pubs close by. Great Fish & Chips in Hadleigh (about 8 mis drive). Would recommend this site to anyone.

We received a warm welcome both from staff and chickens alike. There are plenty of quiet lanes to cycle on but the main road should be avoided both for walking and cycling. There is a nearby pub but take your torch.
A very pleasant site to which we look forward to returning to.

This was the best club site that I have been to. Went there in May this year and came back again in September. Will be staying there again next year as well and being only up the A12 makes it all the more appealing for the unplaned break. The toilet block was the cleanest and warmest I've been to with fresh flowers to make it welcoming. The welcome that you get from Greg and Karen matches the love and care that is shown in the upkeep of the site. A wonderful holiday.

Dont follow a Sat Nav to get to the site as it will take you down narrow country lanes.
Ideal for visiting the country houses in constable country yet close to Colchester Town Centre. It is close to a main road that can wake you in the early hours of the morning.
