Just returned from a lovely weekend{may bank holiday] The site was busy and at times the toilet block could have done with more facilities.
Whilst the site was nice and the wardens helpful we did feel rather squashed in. We were sited in the middle on grass with electric with caravans all round us. We had to ask other campers to move chairs and cars so we could drive in and out. We feel this grass area should be left for recreation only and £23.00 per night was expensive for this area and space. We would go back to this but not if we offered the same pitch.

We were greeted like old friends. This made for a very pleasant and relaxing time. Nothing was too much trouble for Gabriel and George. We enjoyed their company and all the help they gave us as well as the time spent 'gossiping' like old friends do. We will be returning to this site and I can see this happening on more than one occasion in the future. Thank you.

Gabriel and George made us welcome and the service given by George when arriving and pitching our caravan was outstanding. Toilets and showers were clean. We have just returned from the Bank Holiday weekend all pitches and roads on the site were cleared of snow making easy access to the pitch and facilities. Would recommend this site to anyone and will be returning in the near future. Thanks again for an excellent long weekend.

This site is in a very good location to use as a base to visit the surrounding places of interest in the area. As usual the welcome was good and the facilities are excellently maintained and well presented. Very Eco friendly solar panel heating and re cycled water for toilets something that should be a standard across club sites. The parking area for booking in could do expanding to allow other vehicles to pass and the one way system could do with better signage. Will use again when returning to the area in the future. Bring your own entertainment for the evenings as the location is some distance from pubs etc and is very quiet.

We absolutely loved this site; beautifully laid out, easy access to the pitches and so helpful and friendly. Thank you for taking note of our request to be near the loos.
This is only the second time we have used our 'van; the third time will probably be here as well in October.
You must visit Crich Tram village and museum and Kedleston Hall - one of the best National Trust places we have been to.
We were members a few years ago, I love the 360 degree panoramas plus Google earth had driven round the site giving us a really good idea of what it was like.

Stayed at Ashbourne in a gloriously sunny end to 2012 season and would recommend to all as a little jewel of a site.
Green environmentally, with a fantastic wildlife area, it's the best site for wildlife we've yet seen. We liked the total recycling -nothing to landfill. Small is beautiful. The toilet/shower block is clean and grey water use v. important. Gabriel was helpful and helped us choose our pitch.
Yes, the non-electric pitches are a bit of a walk from the loos; but the "twinned" outside loo (for overnight use) is a quirky helpful extra! Saw some little copper butterflies in nature area:it was an abs. fabs.few days, close to the Peaks.

A great site well set out. One member complained about being too far from the facilities but that is more than compensated for by the views in the tent field. Shops and other facilities are 4 miles away in Ashbourne. Loads to do and Carsington Water is close by as is Dovedale a walk that will take some beating. So much to do and yet you come home to a fairly quiet little oasis (the 517 can be a bit noisy at times but didn't impact on my sleep). Thanks Guys and thanks for the sunshine too!

Very clean facilities, the electrical and water points are nicely spread out. The unique selling pint for this site is the dog walk, it goes around 2 fields, and along 2 ponds. unfortunately the track is not suitable for push chairs.
The nearest supermarket is in belper so ensure you come prepared. The site sells milk and a few other essentials. The private field next to the site has horses and goats to look at, also the site has a small park for the kids to play on, sadly no infant swings. Overall will recommend, very helpful warden, cleanest facilities i have seen yet. This site is a must if you would like to visit carsington water over the weekend,

The welcome we received was poor to say the least, no staff avaible to book us in and their attitude when they arrived was dismissive. We were not shown to our pitch or made aware of any of the facilities available. Due to the poor reception we received we were reluctant to approach any member of staff for help. In the end we cut short our stay because of the poor attitude of the staff. Due to the above issues I will not be returning and I cannot recommend this site to any other members.

Just got back from a 3 night stay at this site and would highly recommend it! We have 3 young kids and it was absolutely perfect for them. There is a massive field just for the kids with a climbing frame and swings, football goal and a sandy area. We were situated directly opposite this play field which was really thoughful! The facilities were immaculate and the owners were so friendly and helpful, even letting us stay later on our last day so we could make the most of the 'British weather!'. I would (and already have) recommend this to everyone I know and we will definately be returning! THANKS!!!!!

We have just returned from Ashbourne and what a lovely time we had. As soon as we pulled on the site we were attended to until we were comfy. Staff were always available and happy to help. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing weekend :))

A pleasant quit site about 4 miles from Ashbourne which you can walk to, via a footpath from the site. The facilities block was always clean to a high standard with plenty of hot water. Wardens were polite and helpful and assisted me in Pitching (Thank you). The grass pitch field on which I stayed has a very useful 'dawn to dusk' 5 Star Garden Shed Loo. Would like to see the 'grass field road' compacted and finished off a bit more and perhaps some hedging to break up the pitches.

Just got back from a couple of days at this site and it was great! We pitched our caravan on the grass with electric hook up as we went with my wife sister, husband and little one who were in a tent. Excellent welcome from the site staff on arrival, who showed us to the pitches. The staff thought about us being sited near the play area, good thinking when you've got kids. The site was well maintained and laid out. Don't worry if you're camping and get caught short at night, there's a small toilet facility on the way to the play area. Main shower and toilet block kept very clean by staff and members alike. Great for trips to Carsington Water, Dovedale and Ashbourne.

Friendly welcome, and guided walk around site to choose a pitch.Only problem with pitch (hardstanding)was peg
holds for awning not that secure (even with good long hard ground pegs) in a fresh wind.Nice long dog walk, with lots of different birds to see, and I imagine wildlife when weather warms up.
Grandson aged 5 stayed with us over the weekend and we found the play area was great for him and the other weekend children.

Visited this site for May bank holiday. Prior to the visit my husband had cracked his ribs so I called the site to see if they could help once we arrived with the position of the caravan upon pitching etc which they were more than willing to do. On arrival the lady who greeted me remembered who I was straight away by my name. After booking in the lady and her and her husband came right round to help us pitch up - THANK YOU! Very clean site with good facilities. Nice play area for the children with large area for ball games. Only negative is that the pitches are VERY close together :( On the hard standing pitch there is enough room for a porch awning but a full awning would be a very tight squeeze. Having an awning up then causes the problem of where the car will go! The wardens didn’t want it on the grass as it had been raining quite bad so people had to put them in from of their vans - this then meant that it was on the road as so the road was then very narrow to get through. We were on a pitch near the exit, on a slope and it was quite tricky to get your van moved and hitched when leaving due to the slope. The problem was ensuring the car had enough power to pull the van in such a position as you needed a good drive up to make sure there was enough power - not a small car either. Apart from the points I’ve listed it was a lovely site.

I'm writing this review mainly to give a personal accolade to Gabriel who fixed me up with a lead to connect my electric kettle and light to the round pins of a Club Service Pitch outlet and then fixed a broken pair of sunglasses the following day, all in a spirit of friendship and good humour! Denise and Paul are also very friendly. This is indeed the "friendly club." The site itself and the facilities are spotless. A great place for tenters looking for the esssential creature comforts while not losing the magic of the outdoors.

I've visited many club sites and did not enjoy my stay here, as I felt marginalised and unworthy. The pitches closest to the facilities were apparantly only for caravans, leaving those in tents to walk through two fields to shower, wash up, collect water or dispose of rubbish etc. The field for tents was also sloping and lumpy. I and my friends felt very much like unwanted guests. This is not my usual experience of club sites and I was disappointed and embarassed that I had suggested staying here. It seems unusual to place caravans with built-in facilities closest to the block, and those in tents the furthest away. I can only assume the 'tent' field was an afterthought to make a bit more money. It certainly felt that way. I'm sure it's a very nice site for caravans.

Spent the May day Bank Holiday at this site, check in was fine with a good bit of banter and we were shown to our pitch. Toilets very clean with a few good touches e.g. squeegees for the showers and cloths at the sink. So that thanks to all other campers the toilets were kept clean & spotless throughout the day. Plenty of hot water for the showers
Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also plenty of information on days out and where to go in the information hut .

My wife and I used the Ashbourne site for a kids-free cycling weekend. It is ideally located just outside Ashbourne in rolling countryside offering easy access to the Peak District, Dovedale and The Tissington Trail. Modern, clean bathrooms made for a pleasant stay. There is also a new mini M&S close by (off the A515) which was a great find on our evening arrival.

Just arrived home from a break at this site. We had a warm welcome & found the staff very helpful & friendly. The site was nice with all amenities. The thing I think would be better is another toilet block as when I visited all pitches were in use you had to wait for a shower etc. One day I had a shower to find the water went freezing cold & didn't return to warm or hot. The ladys toilet block had a very awful smell some times as well. To be fair there was a notice stating they had a problem. Ideal base to explore local area.

This was our first camping experience for a while. The welcome was friendly and the site was spotless. I would have liked the camping facilities to be closer to the amenities than the caravans, as we often found ourselves waiting to wash up behind people with vans!!!! The access to the site is a little short for vans and we had to turn round and join the caravans coming into the site as we would have blocked the road otherwise. it is a small friendly site great for exploring beautiful Derbyshire.

We were very disappointed with the welcome we received. We were given our pitch number when we had paid and left to find our way there. On all other C.C.&C. sites we have been asked what sort of pitch we would prefer and have been shown the way. It turned out to be a very poor pitch with only a steep bank in the way of grass and right next to the very busy road. When we asked if we could change we were told the site was full and there would not be any spaces for two days when we chould inquire again. All very well although disappointing. But, on walking round the site we found two or three empty pitches albeit they were grass and we had booked hardstanding. We were allowed (rather ungraciously) to change
but we were amazed to find the following day, that there were at least five empty hard standing pitches available and even more the following day. We were reluctant to go back to the warden because of her attitude and cannot understand why we were treated like that.
We were very impressed by the care given to wildlife and the site was very pleasantly situated but it was all spoiled for us by the lack of consideration we received.

Spent a weekend here and really enjoyed our stay. Only downside was there was no one available to show us to our pitch on arrival...something that has always been the case on other C&CC sites we have used.
Showers/toilets of a high standard, modern and spotlessly clean. Pity that the button on the showers had to be pressed in about every 10 seconds but plenty of nice, hot water and the cubicles are of a decent size. With only 3 showers in the ladies, this may prove to be insufficient when the site is full but it wasn't a problem when we were there.
We had a day out at Matlock Bath which was great and the surrounding countryside is very pretty. Ashbourne itself has Waitrose and Co-Op supermarkets acjacent to the car park, so handy for stocking up on essentials, and the town itself has lots of other interesting shops and restaurants/cafes/pubs.
Overall we had a lovely peaceful weekend break and will definitely be returning to Ashbourne.

Wow. Wonderful. We arrived and was greeted by a smiling Denise. Once payment was sorted out Gabriel showed us to our site (via his bike which made our children laugh) and was informed that just behind us there was a “dusk to dawn†toilet so that we didn't have to walk to the main block with the children which was a life saver in the middle of the night. The site and facilities was always clean and tidy.
We really liked the recycling area, recycled water in the toilets and the use of renewable energy on the site. This is the only site we have been to with these facilities. We were also impressed with the design of the site, with many strips of land left go to nature encouraging wildlife. Lights during the night was bright enough to get to around the site, but not bright enough to disturb sleep.
The site owners had good local knowledge. When we needed to find a local camping shop, Denise was able to tell us where to go with directions.
The only bad thing about this site is that the showers are on a 15 second timer with no water temperature control which made showing our children impossible due to the water being too hot.
This is one site we will definitely be going to again next year which is a first for us!

The first impressions we gained were the friendliness of the Franchisees , helpful etc, the site clean and tidy and the prompt to write this review the area devoted to re cyling.Normally in our opinion club sites are poor when it comes to recyling waste products, but not so at Asbbourne. Whilst Denise & Gabriel transport the bins to the entrance of the site for collection i want to say it is appreciated.By the way the bins were usually full. The
site was peaceful and we will certainly re visit.Ashbourne has good shops to suit all needs, even an M&S food store just outside the town.

The site was everything we could hope for. It was kept in an immaculate state, the facilities block was modern, clean, warm and big enough for the mixed user requirement. The site had a high eco interest with a good mixture of birds visible (and audible) from the Buzzard and Kestrel down to the noisy greenfinches and GoldFinches, Blackbirds and Wrens. There was a good level of insect life around the new ponds including the Azure Damselfly, Chasers and Butterflies including the Ringlet. The Franchisee's were friendly and keen to ensure we had a good time. The site and its surrounds catered well for the dog's needs and the area had plenty for tourists and those who liked more energetic exercise with walks and cycle routes both close at hand and a short drive away.

Having read the reviews I wanted to go to Ashbourne, but wasn't quite sure what to expect. Denise and Gabriel pleasant and helpful. Facilities great and clean, never had to queue for the loo, but did for the shower, hardly surprising when nearly at peak season site almost full at weekends. Shower system fine, you just need to learn how to use it. I needed the loo in the night, chose to walk to main block from tent field, site has good night lighting, and had no problems with lighting system in loos at night time.I have given 5 stars for facilities because everything was well maintained and clean. Obviously being a CCC site it does not have entertainment, bars and things like that NOR WOULD WE WANT IT TO. We had a great time, aim to return. Thank you.

what a wonderful site!
Arrived under a black cloud with an orchestral background of thunder. Almost immediately we were greeted by Gabriel and Denise and the both the mood and weather improved. Phenomenally friendly staff showed us to our pitch and the amenities on site. With 3 young teenagers in tow, we found there to enough to occupy them whilst we relaxed. Incredible wash facilities kept immaculately clean, and although the nearest shops or pub are a short drive away, the reception building has some essentials to keep you going.
The site itself runs a fantastic ecology policy that doesnt tarnish comfort or ease of use. It is predominantely hardstanding, but as campers we prefer a grass pitch and found this to be perfect for our size and nicely terraced to help keep all on an even keel. We have just come back and are looking how soon we can return to this jewel of a site.

As this was our first experience of caravaning since buying a small touring van, we don't have anywhere else to compare Ashbourne with; but if this site is typical of Camping and Caravaning Club sites, we are most impressed.
Our hosts, Denise and Gabrielle were most welcoming and helpful. The site is very well kept, and a credit to them, and the club.
It is an ideal location for visiting many of the Peak Districts beauty spots.
We will be visiting again.

As you will see from our rating's we were very impressed with this spotless and well organised site. It is in lovely rural spot spoilt only (we hasten to add) by the building noise from a nearby farm. Slight road noise but that did not bother us and the birds did the very best to drown this out anyway!
Camping field is slightly sloping but grass electric hook up pitches are terraced so minimising any slope and are also sheltered by a lovely mature hedge.
Nature and the environment is at the fore front of everything that is done on this site, from long grass left around the field edges to the pond/conservation area, the wildflower meadows, recycled water to flush the toilets and solar powered hot water in the showers- fabulous to have such a forward thinking site.
Even the 'night loo' was a revelation. We had heard about this before our visit but when you conjure up images of a 'loo in a shed' you don't immediately think 'glamour' ! But we were very pleasantly suprised - it was bright, light and clean, not at all the dark, smelly, spider haven we thought it might be. At lot of sites would do well to copy this idea where the camping field is a distance from the facilities block.
WELL DONE TO YOU LOVELY WARDENS - WE WILL BE BACK AND Thank you !!

This site is one of the best we've seen. Pitches are well organised and not cramped, and pretty private. Facilities are first class, with enough showers to go round and lovely family rooms in both male and female washrooms. The site is set in rolling hills, with the emphasis on nature and conservation - parts of the grass is left long to encourage wildlife, and this looked very nice. Kids loved the amazing climbing frame and field to play in, in particular the wild meadow element. From an adult perspective, the great space for kids prevented play around the main pitches, promoting peace and quiet! All in all, a fab site, which we will definitely return to. There's so much to do in the area for families - Sudbury hall is fab. This is a gem!

Further to my last review, this site is very clean and well maintained, it is situated close to the lovely market town of Ashbourne, and the local village of hulland ward is in easy walking distance and boasts two very nice pubs both serving home cooked meals and fine ales, I was very impressed with this site, the owners are very nice and friendly, as a member I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a nice peaceful country setting for their holiday

This was our first visit to the site after it was strongly recommend by close friends, we actually met our friends there as they were camping that weekend, We ffound that there was clear instructions on how to contact the owners, the phone even had their call button marked so we could not go wrong, in minutes Gabriel the owner Cycled to our assistance, checking in was quick and painless, and we were escorted to our pitch by gabriel on his trusty two wheel steed,

A clean and fairly well maintained site, ideally placed for beautiful countryside. The hard standing pitch was level & adequate but the parking of vehicles in front of the units made the already narrow access roads difficult to negotiate when pitching & leaving unless you had a motor mover. We felt it unsafe to walk off the site at night as the main (50mph )road had no pavements or street lighting, so a walk to the pub was out of the question. There was no obvious information on display that told us where we could contact the owner in an emergency. The shower block was spotlessly clean but lacked any personal touches, and there were no private washing cubicles in the Ladies. I think that when the site is busy the facilities would be inadequate. Before our visit I had read all the reviews but decided to form my own opinion. Now I agree with other critics...not a site we would visit again.

Lovely site with spotless facilities. Never had to wait for shower even though it was Easter break, only annoying point was that shower turned off after about 10 seconds, but plenty of hot water. We was in 2nd field on hard standing against the hedge, was pleased that we were placed there. Kids loved the play area though grass was in desperate need of cutting (it had been dry for days, if not weeks, so no excuse not to cut). Would definately go back. We visited Carsington Water (bike hire expensive)Kedleston Hall (Easter Egg Hunt and Ashbourne (lovely town, good supermarket, though traffic awful). Wonderful position to explore lower Peak District. A gem of a site.

A fantastic site. We were greated with a warm friendly welcome and shown to our pitch, I am new to towing a Caravan and found the reversing instructions very helpfull which got our caravan on the pitch first time (thanks). The iste had a good play area for the kids, the toilet/shower block was very clean and warm, the layout of the site was great too, the ice cream on sale really was the best!!
There are a number of walks into the countryside which are nice, however you will need to use your car if you want to go into the local town. The scenary is just lovely....we will return.

This was our first experience of camping and we were not disappointed with this campsite. The owners were very friendly and helped us accommodate our slightly oversize tent. However, the position on the field meant that we took the full brunt of the wind in the night.
The tent field can be quite windy unless you are in a sheltered position at the top of the field. The tent field is also the furthest away from the facilities but the walk to the toilet is still only about 2-3 mins.
The facilities are spotless and well cared for by all the campers as well as the staff. The dog walk area is excellent and the childrens play area is perfectly adequate with plently of space.
Overall we had an excellent time and will return.

9/10. Arrived a little early, so had to wait to be booked in. NO waiting area/pull-in to park your car & caravan until you are allocated a pitch. Site split into 3 fields which overlook meadows and horse fields. Also has a lovely wooden playing area for kiddies and 3 lovely meadows to walk the dog(s). There is also a field left for natural habitat with ponds. Had grass pitch and electric hook-up on furthest field from entrance but this felt more spacious than the other two fields, which were hardstanding pitches. Site busy because of Easter but no problems gaining access to toilets/showers, when they were open (shut for cleaning only) which were excellently maintained. Also have recycling bins for glass, cans, papers, etc. Could on find one doggy bin though. Reception and small shop in a wooden hut. Mostly sold organise foods - icecream excellent. Had a lovely 4 days on this site and would definitely recommend as well situated for Ashbourne town, Carsington Water and Dovedale. For your amusement : From Ashbourne town heading towards the site, if you look on your right, you will see Camels and Reindeer in a field - yes that's right, definitely a distraction when towing! A very enjoyable stay and will definitely be coming back.

The shower block and toilets are modern clean and warm. The site has great recycling bins easy to find all in the same place.
The childrens play area was large but far enough away from the caravans not to be a problem for those of us who no longer bring little ones.It was well used by the families on the site.
There is a short walk around the site taking in the new concervation area ( WORK IN PROGRESS)
Many places of interest around in cluding Carsington water, Alton Towers and several country houses.

Few days in Derbyshire were enhanced by decent weather and a good site. Gabriel is a very friendly and helpful guy with good knowledge of local pubs. He recommended Ye Olde Gate Inn at Brassington - great place and food not forgetting the beer.
The toilet block was spotless and is amongst the best I have seen on a club site, and eco friendly.
Site well positioned for Ashbourne and Carsington Water, nice walk around the reservoir, in addition to other attractions Bakewell, Buxton etc..
Slight road noise could be an issue for light sleepers, but if you pitch in the bottom field then this will be reduced.

England is such a beautiful country to enjoy when the sun shines! Well when you are caravaners like us everyday is a great day. Especially when the site you are staying on is so relaxing, yes the odd plane may fly overhead, and yes it may be close to the main road, so traffic can sometimes be heard. Yet you can sit outside your caravan and enjoy every moment, surrounded by beautiful surroundings, birds singing, folk enjoying the company of friends and family. Close your eyes for five minutes and sometimes you just hear nothing just melt into your own world!!!! The campsite is well maintained and ideally located to get out and about. It is a great base to get away from it all. Denise and Gabriel, site managers will only too willingly help out should you have any problems. We had a wonderful few days, just chilling out and doing not a lot really, the parents-in-law visited and stayed overnight, rekindling their love affair with the outdoors again. A visit to the Black Horse Pub 5 mins away by car enlightened us to the local produce the food was excellent, quite a varied menu and quite inexpensive in comparison to other pubs.
But its well worth a visit even if its just to sample the local beers, or two!!
We wish everyone can take the positive things away from spending time out in the countryside, whatever the weather, put the laughter and fun back into getting back to basics, life is too short to complain, we waste far more energy moaning about things, instead of concentrating on our own enjoyment. The Ashbourne Club Site is well set up in our estimation for hospitality, a great job is being done here, and more is yet to come......Remember Rome too was not built in a day folks! so A Big Thank You to you guys up there keep up the good work, and we will see you again in the summer. Penny and Blue, enjoyed their lovely walks too cheers.

As with all photographs, the ones displayed on the web site give a false impression of the whole site. Mainly, the pitches are small, in uniform rows with cars having to be placed in front of units. Much like a car park. Reversing onto or pulling away from pitch is difficult due to occupancy of opposite pitch. OK with mover !!. Otherwise very convenient for Carsington Water, Tissington Trail, Derbyshire Dales etc. Friendly Franchise owners but limited opening hours. There is a well stocked information hut. On our visit the WiFi was only available by using a credit card when logging on due to non availability of club vouchers. As we were only making a w/e visit we found the £10 minimum amount not a viable proposition...

The facilities were very clean and all present, the site owners very welcoming and polite. Would definitely use again in the future but being in a tent at this time of year (Sept) not a good idea it was -3 C spoke with a few caravaners also and they said it was cold.

so very enjoyable as a hiker.

On arrival no information relating to the site facilities, or surrounding areas were provided.
An information shed did exist but we were not aware of this until our departure. The site was poorly lit on an evening.
Walking to any nearby pub is in our opinion highly dangerous as there are no footpaths and or road lighting and it is a busy main road.
On a positive note the new toilet facilities were immaculate and clean, although the recycled water used for flushing the toilets looked quite dirty and unpleasant. Like most sites are closed for cleaning, not a problem generally, but when there is only one block and the cleaning time vary, this proves to be very annoying.
After reading reviews on our return home, we have now learnt that there is a night time shed with a toilet, which we were not aware of throughout our stay. Also the dog walking area was not made clear at all, we stumbled on a field by chance and could only guess that this may be used for dogs.
The final thing that proved a tad annoying was the low flying aircraft noise due to the site being on a main flight path.
As apposed to other sites we have stayed at slightly expensive for the amenities available, this is one site we will not revisit.
