the site was great, very friendly staff, clean toilets & showers, small play area for the kids partly covered with bark the rest covered in grass which never dried out which meant the kids got covered in mud, needs attention. but would go again

Just arrived back from our second visit to Troutbeck and have to say it's one of the best Club Sites we have stayed on. It's in a beautiful setting with very good spacing between each unit so you don't feel on top of each other. Once again it rained the time we were there but it didn't spoil the weekend. Only a ten min drive from Keswick with plenty to do, but also lots of walks etc on the doorstep. Have to say it's the best shower/toilets I've been in on a club site (in fact any site!). The shower was so powerful it was like having a massage! Big shout out to the wardens in particularly Ian who helped us get our TV working and also checked our water heater over as we were having problems with it. The only one thing I would say (and this is totally nitpicking!) is that you get very little notice of the turning on the A66, it comes on you very suddenly and is quite a tight turn so you either have to slam on brakes (annoying the driver behind you) or drive onto the next exit which then makes it difficult to turn into the site from that direction. Might help to put a site sign quite a bit before the exit off the A66.
Can't wait to go back but can we order some sun please!!

When we arrived the owner was on the phone for quite a while which was fine but he didn't acknowledge that we had come into Reception so it wasn't the friendliest of welcomes, but things improved considerably after that. The two assistants were great and very approachable. The site itself is a real gem. Only a few hundred yards from the A66 but you would never know it. The scenery is stunning and if you're a walker there is direct access to some fantastic countryside from the site. The showers are the best we've experienced. Spotless, hot and with a decent water pressure. If the site was full you may have to wait as there are only two cubicles each in the men's and the ladies' (although you are encouraged to use the family or disabled facilities if these are free). The dish washing room was similarly clean and the washer and dryer worked well. Our only 'negative' comments would be that the shower block was a bit of a walk from the bottom touring area - fine for us but if you have young children or difficulty walking this might be a consideration. The other thing the site misses is a pub within easy walking distance. The pub at Scales is 1.5 miles away - a lovely walk on a nice summer's evening but not really doable if it's chucking it down! The weather for our long weekend was pretty bad but we hope to return to Troutbeck soon - hopefully to experience this lovely site in the sunshine.

We are fairly new to towing a caravan, although we are in our early seventies, so not experienced to find out were the leak was that soaked our carpet overnight. Thanks to Warden Ian who found out the pressure switch diaphragm had split. After this we had a good time, although the weather could have been better. We had the choice of pitches, and great views of the fells. The local pub has great food and a good pint.

This site fully merits all the praise heaped on it in previous reviews. There is little to find fault with. The only minor problem we had was the trek from the bottom field to the top of the site to empty the loo cassette. A lovely week in some of the foulest weather of the year, so bad we did not even try to put the awning up.
We will certainly visit again if in the Lake District.

Site was very clean and tidy. Nice quite location on a slight slope. There is a little shop which stocked minimal basic items but supermarket only 10 mins drive away if you reqired more. The shower, toilets and washing facilities were excellent, so much to say too good for a caravan site but not complaining. Staff were always available to help even if office/shop was closed. Would visit again.

We had a lovely time for 2 weeks in the Self Catering 6 berth Caravan. Its a beautiful van with central heating. That was a good thing as the area was covered in snow when we came up from Cornwall for our Easter holidays. This our 5th visit to Troutbeck. We visited first with a tent as a couple. We now bring our 2 small children and other family members. We will book again for next year. We will need the Static caravan and our own tourer as each time we come more family want to join us.The site and the owners and staff are all Fab.

Excellent site, with great toilet and washing up facilities which are always spotlessly clean and very helpful and friendly staff. We have visited a number of times and will visit again. I would like to highlight Ian in particular who has assisted us when we have had electrical problems, and resolved problems in the caravan and in the car.
Safe play area for children and family /disabled shower room. Great dying facilities for wet clothes. Stunning panoramic views with the fells surrounding site. Site has a lovely beck in lower field with plenty of hard standing and electrics. Two dog walks one, which follows the beck and one which cuts through farm land.
Lots of access for dog walking and great for canoeing as Ullswater and Derwent Water are a short car journey away.
Highly recommended.

What a fantastic site, would and will recommend the site to anyone and everyone, we have just spent 8 days here ( we were going to stay for 7 but decided to stay the Saturday night aswell.
The site is within easy drive form all areas in the northern lakes and around half way between Keswick and Penrith (M6) .
The showers are great and always red hot,
The toilet block and washing areas are spotless,
The site it's self is also spotless and well groomed.
We have had a really relaxing weeks break here

Looking forward to visiting this site for a while and was definately worth the wait. The staff where very friendly unlike some other sites we have visited, it really does make a big difference! We where at the bottom part of the site and it was very quiet and peaceful - which was just what we needed, there as also a lovely stream running at the back of the site, nice relaxing to hear. The facilities are well looked after and clean and the cleaning of them is at very reasonable times. The shop seems to have anything you may require for a stay. The site is not far from Keswick and some nice pubs and great walking too. Definately will be going back again. Thankyou

Very very clean and well run site. I would say if your caravaning go for it as its set up more for caravaning than camping. Camping part is the furthest away from the loos.
The washing block was good and the showers the best I have used on a site.
It was sad that the site was waterlogged so we came home a day early hay we were in the lakes what do you expect.

After just getting back from troutbeck campsite after a weeks holiday i had to leave a review as the staff were fantastic, friendly, welcoming really helpful nothing was too much trouble! i had read that a "dog said" the dog walk was not big enough, i have two labradors which needs lots of excerise there was 2 big fields for the dog walking with access through other fields to make your walk as long and as far as you wanted, i also made full use the surrounding areas, fields, walks, lakes and country side that this stunning part of the world has to offer. the site was fantastic shower block one of the best weve experienced would reccomend this site to anyone without a doubt and will definatley visit again thank you for a lovely, warm, friendly, pleasent stay.

We had a wonderful weeks stay here, very friendly welcome and we had a lot of help and advice on trying to get our tv ariel to work! Situated in a beautiful spot, very easy to get to, just minutes off of the A66. The showers were the best I've had on a campsite, very clean too. What was great also the washing up area was inside. Fantastic walks through the adjacent fields, ideal if you have a dog like us, but I would recommend you have wellies for this walk as a bit boggy in areas! This is perfect stop over also if you are heading further up north as it's not too far off of the Penrith jct of the m6. We would defiantly use this fab site again. Thanks for giving us a great stay!

The Shower/toilet was kept immaculately clean & was checked regularly by staff both day & evening. There is a small shop on site which is kept well stocked with essentials. We found the staff to be very pleasant and
always willing to help .The nearest town is Keswick, just a short drive away, where there are a good selection of shops, a public swimming pool and a great playground for children. We thorooghly enjoyed our stay there and will be returning soon.

There wasn't any close bye walks for pets. The Showers were cold if not used early on, the shower heads need replaced as they just flop about & you have to get washed with one hand & hold the shower head with the other, they sell Mayonaise that is 2 months out of date. But offer it at half price.Wi-FI was terrible & they charge £3 for 4 hours use which doesn't work well at all. The Farm next door was ploughing the fields at 8:30 Pm & cleaning the barn gutters at the same time right next to our pitch. On Sunday's they close the shower / cleaning block @ 10:30 Am ,But apart from that was a nice site :-) .

We arrived to a lovely welcome at Troutbeck. We had come from another site and thought we'd have to find a supermarket to get supplies - however we managed to get what we needed in the site shop - what a bonus!
The toilet/shower block was spotless every time we went in although we didn't use the showers. The site was well maintained, grass cut etc - despite the wet weather.
They have a great dog walk area - a large field and dog bin and this was much appreciated.
We had a very peaceful stay, did some local walking and felt very relaxed after 4 days here.
Well done to all staff!

A very good site which has excellent, but limited facilities. Her Indoors commented about the lack of showers in the Ladies.
One drawback - I am disabled and male!
I got some funny looks when I went to the disabled toilet as it is sited just inside the doorway of the Ladies.
Pity it had not got a second entrance for the disabled. (the entrance to the Gents is not disabled friendly as it has a step!)
The site is shown with Site WiFi on the site page - but the Site WiFi page shows no Wi-Fi of any type!
I am a regular WiFi user and have taken out a year's ticket with the Club's own Site Wi-Fi at a rate of £42 as best value for my holidays.
The site does not have Site Wi-Fi but runs another system which costs £1 per hour. (Site Wifi's most expensive option is £2 for a day)
Why is this?

One of the best sites, if not The best! Staff were really helpful, loos and showers very good and clean. Plenty of room on site without feeling packed in like sardines. Views stunning and location for walking and shops excellent. One minor moan and this is why I didn't give the facilities 5 star, lack of toilets in the lower, camping area. It's the campers that need the loos more than the static caravans but the campers had the furthest to walk. Even just two loos in the lower half for night time use would have been fine. I thought it was a lot to expect people to walk through the entire site crunching on the gravel path to use the loo at 3:00am in the morning. Other than this the site is perfect!

Never done a reveiw of a site before, but this one is a wonderful gem, the site managers are the most helpful friendly people you could wish to meet, the setting is stunning, full marks for a motorhome fill up and emptying point just as you reach the site, one can book in, and the other can be filling up, so many sites you have to drive halfway round to fill up, and sometimes you have to fill up drive out of the site, turn and come in again to get to your pitch, the showers are fantastic, very clean, water pressure in the showers are the best I have showered in, and you can set the temperture to what you like, not what someone else thinks you should shower in.
Another little point, the chair when you are booking in is a lovely touch, for someone of the slightly older generation, and also someone with a bad back.
This must be one of the best sites on the network, will be visiting again.
Thank you keep up the good work

Nice site just off the A66 about 3 miles from Keswick. Good clean facilities and a shop which stocks the essentials. At the time we stayed the weather was very wet and the site was quite muddy (but that's not something the warden's can do anything about). Good walking at Threlkeld - which is just over the A66. The Horse n Farrier pub at Threlkeld serves fantastic food at a not too unreasonable price. We will definately return because this site is idea for access to Keswick and the surrounding lakes.

All in all a good week was had by all, me, my other half and my dog. Oh and we will be back, there is no doubt about that!

I have been a member for 14 years and this is the first time I have felt that I really must review a site and express my appreciation. Troutbeck is one of the very best sites, if not the best you could wiish to visit.
This was not my first time there, I return annually. The location is brilliant for reaching the North, North Western, Central, Eastern, Far Eastern and some of the Southern Fells. Troutbeck provided my base for walking many of the Wainwrights. The fantastic ‘power’ showers are absolutely perfect after a day on the hills (with musical accompaniment too – I will have to get that set up at home!).
The facilities are good and the team running the site maintain an exceptional level of cleanliness. The people there are very friendly and helpful. Shopping in Keswick is a short drive away and the area offers many alternative activities for those of us finding that every day on the hills is getting hard work.
Downsides, the A66 provides a background rumble, and there is a slope (well it is the Lakes), maybe a selection of classics to shower by some days? All of these are amply compensated for by the views and facilities.
5 Stars all round, but only because this system won’t award 6.

Beautiful site, with the best on site facilities I have ever been in! Short 2 minute walk from tent field to facilities. Exceptionally clean, with endless hot water and no queues - more like a hotel bathroom than a campsite. Very child friendly and safe for small ones to play - in fact I don't think we saw much of ours as on their bikes, play area, feeding the local chickens or playing by the stream as soon as breakfast was over. Well stocked shop and the friendliest of staff. Fabulous views and quiet countryside, all this only 15/20 minutes drive from Keswick. Definitely recommended; 5 stars all round!! Going back soon with the tent.

Stayed here for 4 glorious nights in April 2011. The site itself is fantastic, in a beautiful location overshadowed by the daunting Blencathra. Facilities were first class, fully enclosed toilets are a blessing. Showers were great too, I'd agree with other reviews I've read which liken them to hotel showers. Everyone on site was respectful of the surroundings and the obvious hard work the owners must undertake to make this site a credit to the C&C name. Perfection in a campsite is rare and if I was to raise any criticism it would be the A66 road, audible from the site, which very slightly detracts from the otherwise outstanding location. Will revisit one day and conquer Blencathra. Oh, and Scaffel Pike if the SATNAV takes us to the correct Seathwaite next time!!!!

4 day break over easter. Good reception from Wardens, placed us in the bottom field as we had our 2 kids with us. Lovely spot right next to the stream although it did get a little smelly at times due to the water being so low with lack of rain. showerblock is fantastic but only 2 showers in the Gents and 1 in the ladies does mean you will be queueing. As said before the kids playpark could do with an addition or two.
All in all a lovely spot really close to Ullswater and a quick drive into keswick.

We stayed for 4 nights and it was perfect! I really liked the fact that I was greeted by name as soon as I arrived which shows attention to detail. The facilities were first class although situated near the statics who may not need them as much as us without on board facilities!! A lovely peaceful campsite and we appreciated the daily updated weather reports so we could plan our walks. We would definitely return!!

As experienced campers but first time caravaners we requested, on booking an "easy pitch", which thankfully was reserved for us on our arrival. The site itself is set in stunning country side with views to die for. The toilets/showers are by far, the best and cleanest we have encountered anywhere. The only little moan would be the very modest play area, the most important part of a holiday for a 4 year old. However we'll be returning later in the year.

Wonderfully accomodating wardens, who managed to get us a pitch close to where my Mum was in her motorhome. Lovely welcome, in fact the welcome pack was one of the most informative ones I have ever seen. Next time we will take full advantage of the pick up and drop off arrangement with the local pub!!
The facilities are amazing, the showers were better than we have at home and are kept scrupilously clean. The washing up facilities are the best I have ever used and the piped music does make you linger over the drying.
The pitch was a decent size and fairly level. We needed to use some rock pegs, for those rocky patches, but on the whole regular pegs were used.
The views are beautiful and we were treated to a spectacular sunset on the 2nd night, nice way to finish off the weekend.
We are very familiar with this area and there is plenty to explore. Keswick is a delight.

Brillant, arrived late afternoon, two very helpful ladies from the north east helped me put my tent up. Their partners then came over to ensure that the tent was ok. I was invited with my dog to attend a barbeque in the evening. The lads did the cooking, the standard of which was very high. The meat had been bought at a butchers in Keswick.
After a few beers and a bottle of High Park malt whisky, I took my telescope out and we started to do some sky watching. The skies were darker than many other places. It was a great pleasure to meet such nice people and I believe we really enjoyed it.
The site itself is excellent, with a warm welcome by the reception staff, had a good conversation them on the locale, mountains, lakes, funny camping stories and on activities that would be appropriate for the dog. We went to the seaside at St. Bees Head and the dog loved the sea.
This is an excellent site for campers travelling to or from Scotland and who want to break the trip for a few days rest. There is so much to do in the area.

I've never felt the need to review a C&CC site before since they are all very good and you'd be hard pressed to find a bad one. However, this site, Troutbeck, definitely deserves a mention. It is the only site I have been on that gets a definitive 10 out of 10 for every aspect.
The staff are excellent, the views stunning, the pitches 1st class, the facilities the best I've used and the cleanliness and neatness of the entire site cannot be faulted.
Congratulations to the entire team for making this site the way it is. Keep it up.
