Lovely site and ideal proximity to Bowness and any walks very clean and spacious although we were parked under some trees and the birds roosting at night made a real mess of the van!! We did ask if we could move but it was all a bit "stressy" in the office so did'nt bother! All in all if you are looking for a site within walking distance of the lake and pubs ect this is the site for you!

This is one of our favourite sites, it's small and compact but has direct access to Bowness, Windermere lake, parkland, ferry and lots of walking/cycling. Very easy to get local buses and boats to enjoy all the area has to offer. Excellent nearby theatre in season too and lots of eateries to choose from, the information room has good lists for dog friendly pubs.No longer being able to choose a pitch is a bit of a downside but it's possible to move too! Poor TV reception so be prepared to go without or have limited access. Always miss it when we leave, so top marks for Braithwaite Fold!

Our first experience of the C.C.Club, stayed at this site for 5 nights & received a friendly welcome. Lovely little site ideally located for the south lakes & for local pubs/restaurants, walking & cycling, which meant we only used the car once during our stay. We will definately be returning. However, I have to agree with some of the previous reviewers regarding the hardstanding gravel pitches, ours too had concrete hidden under the gravel. This made it difficult to secure our awning. Other than this small thing, a perfect little site.

Had a lovely stay over new year with the wife and dogs. It's a short walk into town if you want a day or night out or take the foot ferry next to the site where you can go for a nice long walk at the other side of the lake. The wardens went to a lot of effort on New Years Eve for a party which was very enjoyable. We couldn't be put off even though we got towed home by the RAC after we broke down on site. The wardens were very helpful offering to do what they could.

Stayed for 9 nights. Arrived on the 19th dec. Site was quiet with only six pitches being used. Filled up to about half for Christmas and then full when leaving on the 28th. Excellent welcome and facilities spotless. Second time here and will be bookings for next Christmas and other dates throughout the year. Excellent location and bowness has a good a atmosphere with plenty to do and places to eat. Highly recommend this site.

Fabulous location, very central for touring lakes. It was excellent for our young children who settled well at night due to the peace and quiet. Convenient for shops/restaurants/public transport/visitor attractions. You could park up your car & have fabulous walks straight from the site or take a ferry/launch across the lake (jetty a short walk away from the site). Wonderful welcome from the site team, pristine facilities, what more could you ask for?

We have stayed on this site many times over the years, but I have to say that the site managers (steve and sheree) that are there now are the most helpful holiday site managers/ wardens that we have ever encountered. There was only one pitch available suitable to take an awning when we arrived, which we didnt particularly like as it was dark due to overhanging trees, but Steve and Sheree said as soon as a more suitable pitch became available we would be welcome to move to another , two days later this was the case, Steve helped us to move, assisted us in taking down our awning in pouring rain . But Steve really excelled beyond the call of duty, when one night at 11.30pm half of the site lost the electricity supply, he came out and spent well over an hour and a half trying to restore the supply in the dark and pouring rain. He couldnt restore the supply at the time, but because my husband has to have an oxygen machine at night in bed , Steve made sure by connecting our caravan to a plug in point across the roadway that my husband wasnt without his necessary equipment. An electrician was there at 7.o.clock the next morning and restored the power supply This is a beautiful site, with excellent ammenities all within walking distance. The only suggestion we would like to make on improving the site, is that the concrete slabs under the gravel be removed so as to make pegging down an awning easier.
All in all we had a very enjoyable 17 night stay on this site and will definitely visit again.

This was our first visit to the site and we do not normally stay in an urban environment so what a surprise to be in a town but with the peace and quiet of a rural site. We had the friendliest of welcomes from Sheree and Steve, who always managed to smile even with the poor weather we had. The site although small and full never seemed overcrowded and was immaculately maintained as were all the facilities a credit to the work the staff put in on a daily basis. If I have one gripe, it is the way all sites have the shower curtains hung too high allowing water to flow into the drying area, on the positive side though, it did not have the silly push button taps that you can spend more time pushing than actually washing. We had originally booked for two nights but found the site so nice and its locality to the lake, Shops, Boats, local transport and the town itself so convenient allowing us to leave the Motorhome behind while we explored the area we finally stayed five nights. We will certainly be back, it is an ideal location to visit a very popular part of the Lakes

We have just spent a lovely 5 days at this site, the first week in September. This was the first time I had booked with this club and failed to enter the correct width details for our outfit, therefore the pitch I had booked didn't allow for an awning, but the wardens were excellent and managed to find us a pitch to take our awning and also where we could receive satelite signal.
The site its self is not the biggest site with largest pitches but we found it more than adequate and the location makes up for it anyway with Bowness just a 10 mins stroll to its lovely shops, bars & cafes and the lake its self with boat trips galore. We also found the site facilities to be very clean, we are used to Caravan Club sites and we found the cleanliness to be of the same standard that we are used to. We will definately be returning to this site.

Stayed at the site over August bank holiday, first impressions were good, small site all with hardstanding pitches. Wardens make a point of advising you of the rules straight away, I think they forget that people have come for a break. Location is the best thing about this site, only 10 minute walk to Bowness which is a lovely village with plenty of facilities. The major problems we had with this site is the lack of visitor parking, even though there are a couple of bays near reception these are used as an advertising pitch for the warden to try and sell his car! A small site like this wouldn't need very many visitor bays so even 2 would have been helpful instead our visitor had to pay to park in the public car park one day and the other couldnt park at all as it was too busy being bank holiday Sunday.
The wardens attitudes to this arent good and even though there are spaces where an extra car could park they do not allow this. There is a feel of 'Big Brother is watching you' as you can't put a foot wrong without the wardens being over within seconds. Overall this is a lovely site with an even better location. The wardens are fine when you do as they tell you but the rules and regulations make the site feel far too regimental, they could do with lightening up and remembering that people are on holiday!!

Read some negative reviews about this site . but they are wrong this is a very clean and friendly site , and we were made to fell welcome by the warden , who helped us park up on arrival .
The position is ideal for walking or visiting Bowness which is just 5 minutes away .
The negatives are, that there are no aerial points or water next to hook ups. But otherwise a lovely place and we will be back

Very welcoming wardens to this very favourably located site.
Pitches are a bit tighter together than ideal.
This means that units MUST be sited with their doors opening toward their patch of grass. We had a motorhome come in with it's door opening on and tight to "our" grass. No real problem until their BBQ lit and their table & chairs set out immediately outside our awning. and the BBQ positioned upwind of all this !!
And as others report ....removal of concrete slabs from under the gravel is needed.
We hope to be there again

On a whole the site was very pleasant and the staff friendly on welcome. Mick the site warden was most helpful in directing us to our pitch and helping siting the caravan.
On a whole it was a very pleasant stay and would recommend to friends.
The only reservation was that there was no lighting on the approach road from Glebe Road to the site and late walkers would need to use a torch to find their way, hopfully this will be corrected at some point.
Location of the site to Windermere was excellent just 10 minute walk to the lake and shops.

We had a lovely warm welcome from the Site managers and Assistants when we arrived. We could only get booked for 3 days, but we asked if there was any possibility of staying longer and the wardens couldn't do enough to help. We managed to stay for the whole week. It was a very well kept site. The town was only about a 10 minute lovely walk. Site is quiet even when full. Showers spotless with lots of hot water. Private clean hand basin cubicles too. Dish washing sinks outside good but beware midges around! We consider this to be one of the best campsites we visit and moving it under the management of the C & CC this year has enhanced those thoughts. The current wardens are a credit to the club being friendly, helpful and they keep the site looking immaculate. Apart from the benefit of being close to Bowness and Lake Windermere and all of the wonders of the Lake District. On this trip all the wardens were extremely friendly and helpful and helped to make our stay very enjoyable, as usual, but Steve is worthy of special mention due to his assisting us with our gas tank problem and our tv problem. We certainly will be back again - we only have one wish for change - for the site to offer wifi.

This was our first visit to Braithwaite Fold and we found it excellent. Close to the lake and only a short walk to Bowness pier where we could make bus journeys to Ambleside/Grasmere and Keswick without taking the campervan. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our only concern was the condition of the shower block which although adequate and clean, was clearly in need of modernisation. Only a little niggle but worth mentioning.

We do like this site and have been back quiet a few times. We do feel that there should be 11-30 time to be off the site by, and 12-30 on site time as the drive up to the site can get congested with the present times of off by 12noon and on after 12 noon. We agree with earlier coments regarding the visiter parking. My Brother in law who lives in Preston always stays for one night, ( as we only get to see him once a year) as he is disabled there has never been a problem with him leaving his car in the parking bays by reception for a small fee. However this time he had to park in the car park ajacent to the site which made things difficult for him. It would be better if the council could take the concrete slabs up to make putting an awning up a lot easier.Other than these couple of problems It is a lovely place.

Have been visiting this great camp site for several years mainly for its location near to Bowness.
Site is always well maintained with a very clean toilet block.
However our latest visit was somewhat spoilt by new rules introduced by the Caravan and Camping Club.
We were stopping in our friends awning and assumed we would be able to park our car in the spaces provided at the side of reception as normal.
However we were told on arrival by the new warden that this was no longer possible.
We were first informed that the spaces are now set aside for emergency vehicles.
He then changed his mind to them being for other members of staff, before finally settling on disability spaces.
We politely asked if we could use one of the many spare pitches but were told the site was not a car park.
We ended up parking in the car park behind the back of the site at a cost of £54.00 for six days.

Site entrance is difficult to find [CCC have just taken over the site and are waiting for permission to erect a sign on the road] but is just off Braithwaite Fold Car Park. Bowness can get very busy. However found the site secluded but within easy reach of the pierhead, shops, pubs and cafes. Site very well maintained and the shower block is immaculate. Our 10m electric hookup cable was too short but the site manager loanned us a longer cable. Needed rock pegs to erect the awning on the hard standings. Enjoyed our stay here - it was a last minute booking as another site had to cancel due to waterlogged pitches. The far side of the lake is much quieter and there is a pleasant lakeside walk.It is accessible by the ferry [50p each way for pedestrians.

This site is situated in a nice location in Bowness , on the shore of Lake Windermere. The site is a nice size, quiet and well maintained. The wardens were very friendly, always available and helpful. Pitches are a nice size to get a caravan on with an awning and still maintain a good space between units. The toilet block is very clean, containing shower cubicles and washing cubicles if required. The TV reception was OK on the pitch we had, we were informed on arrival that that we had a choice of location, although some of the pitches had poor reception.
The site has a small shop within the reception area selling essential items, as the town is only a few minutes walk away, there is a varied amount of retail outlets, pubs and cafe’s to satisfy one’s needs.
We will definately be returning to this site regularly.

We have used this site, most years since 1990, it is well kept, a joy to be on, the site is set out beautifully. We have a small caravan but a large awning, we always have found enough room to take our table and loungers outside the awning to eat al fresco. I believe the site is set out to the required measurements, we have never felt cramped. The thing to remember is to use steel awning pegs, we have never yet hit the original concrete strips, if you site your van correctly you should miss them.

Arrived to a very friendly welcome. The warden offered to help us with our large twin-axle caravan but as we have a motor mover fitted, it was relatively easy to manoeuvre onto the pitch. It's a very small site and there is a small roadway around the pitches which are close together. If you have a single axle caravan it should be straight-forward and you would probably have room to reverse it with your car but no chance with a twin-axle. The site is spotlessly clean and the only reason I put the facilites as 3* is because there were no fully-serviced pitches.
The site is within walking distance of Bowness which is great for boat trips and bars/restaurants if you don't feel like cooking.
We will definitely return to this site.

We have been to this site several times a year for the past 10years and love it. It is a very compact site and most of the pitches I have been on have 2 old flag run-ons (where the caravan wheels ran on)These have been covered with loose stone base making it impossible to peg an awning unless you fing out where the flags are and try to peg outside of these. I have asked countless wardens if they could be romoved over winter to prevent the first days frustration trying to put an awning up - but no one seems bothered. Maybe this club will persuade the council to do the job.I now don't bother with an awning and happy days. A few minutes walk takes you either to the ferry and a small marina (Back gate out of the site)or front entrance to the lively town centre where you will find an abundance of pubs, cafes, restruants, tourist shops and venues. There really is something for everyone here and most of it walkable and suitable for wheelchairs. But beware going up into town where there is quite a steep hill not suitable for wheel chairs.
