exceptionally clean and tidy site to the point of my feeling 'uncomfortable' to put a foot wrong anywhere! lovely couple who look after the place, but maybe a bit too perfect. i stayed mid week for a few days in may. not a child in sight (school term time)& I counted 5 dogs on site, I have two. there is a lovely dog walk, but sadly it shares an area where kids can play football, thus dogs have to stay on a lead absolutely EVERYWHERE .I felt although it had many dog facilities to tick boxes, that it was not 'dog friendly' in the sense of the word. my dogs had done their business on the dog walk & i was taking them on a tour of the site (on leads of course!) & in the far corner where the play area is (not fenced or roped off )is a sun trap,& a seat, i was going to sit a while. but the site man had rushed over to tell me "dogs are not allowed near the play area". Fair point if a sign had said that (kids break them apparently) & if there had been a child anywhere on site, & lastly, if the play actual camp site.I have camped all my life, am a responsible dog owner, have kids & grand kids. This site experience made me feel like, my self & my dogs being there were 'messing up the manicured & perfectly kept facilities'.

We spent 7 days on this quiet site and I would highly recommend this site to families with older children 8-16 years as the Games Room is EXCELLENT we spent every evening playing pool, table tennis, skittles and table football-great fun was had by all! There is also a well situated ball games field not forgetting the free tennis lessons!
Greg and Carol were always really helpful and friendly too. The site is also close to great beaches for surfing/body boarding and walking.

Great site in North Devon - with stunning views of surrounding countryside.
Helpful and friendly staff. Spotless facilities.
Good size pitches with plenty of space - even though this is a small site.
Dog walk.
Kids playing field and also games room: table tennis, tv, pool, free traditional skittles.
Make sure you use B3226 as per site book instructions, when approaching from M5, so that you by-pass South Moulton centre.
Recommend trips to Barnstaple and South Moulton markets.
Beaches of Westward Ho, Woolacombe and Bude are 20-30 miles away.
Really enjoyed our first stay at this site !

This was our first time camping as a family and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The site staff were very friendly and helpful, and the facilites were absolutely fine for our family of four. It isnt a massive site so you are never too far away from the amenities. I noted the comment about the noise from other campers by a previous poster, and during our stay there was farm work going on nearby until 10pm on occassions. Cant be helped by the site as that is what you get in the country and added to the charm of the site. We shall be back.

This was perfect, the field is slightly sloping, but this wasn't a problem. The facilities are fabulous! Very very clean and the water was always hot. The site is out in the sticks so you get the 'country air' but it's not a problem at all and all part of being in the sticks. This site is perfect for exploring north Devon but is not too far from Barnstaple for essentials. There is a farm shop nearby and a garage that sells everything!
The kids loved the site and on the whole it was very quiet. I do however find windbreak villages that people see the need to create slightly annoying! Why go camping if you feel the need to hide that much!
All in all we had a wonderful time, the staff were amazing, hardworking and very friendly. We will certainly be returning next season :)

We enjoyed a peaceful holiday at Umberleigh. The site is small but beautiful and has a good dog walk. As it was high season we did not have a choice of pitches but we were happy with the pitch given to us. The beaches are a good half an hour away which could be draw back for a young family.
The information room is excellent so there is no excuse not to explore all the other attractions in the area. For anyone with dogs, there are good kennels locally which we used for a day during our stay. It would be so useful if sites could provide information about local kennels.

Very well run site with excellent staff that helped us to get the best pitch, helped with putting up tent and even lent us drinking mugs as we had forgotten ours!
An observation and not a criticism, the site is in beautiful countryside that has many towns and attractions within 10-15 miles but very little on the doorstep, although the pub in Umberleigh was very nice and campers get a discount.
I was puzzled by the excitement of the chip van coming on a Tuesday night; once I had eaten the fish and chips I understood.... they were excellent!
We cycled the Tarka trail and visited local towns and attractions.
I have searched for faults and problems and to be perfectly honest I could not find any!
Keep up the good work!!!

This was an excellent site and I having read the negative comment placed about this site I belive that this person can't have spent time on this site! The facilities were excellent, clean and very good. The site is slightly sloping in some places and in a tent this made things slightly interesting as this was the first site we had been on like this.
The managers of the site were warm and welcoming and made you feel at home. They also arranged for a Fish and Chip van (Tuesdays) to come on site so that you could have freshly cooked fish and chips on the site.
I would recommend this site to people who wish to enjoy the local scennary (spectacular) and to have a lovely break away. We also had our very own spring watch with Swallows nesting in one of the outside facilities.
Thanks for a lovely holiday and we will be coming back.

This was our first visit to this site and is the smallest one we have been to so far. We were given a choice of pitches on arrival which may not be the case in high season. The views are lovely even in the rain which we had!! The facilities are very clean and the only negative comment we have is that there are no shelves in the showers to put toiltries on and the showers have a push button which may have to be pushed at intervals to keep water flowing. There is a fish and chip van that comes on Tuesday evenings which I can reccommend as all the food is cooked to order. The other thing that was a bonus were the discount vouchers to various places we received on arrival and have something for everyone.

We were looking forward to a day out in Barnstaple courtesy of the local bus network but found that the concessions had been withdrawn from the local council and therefore there was only one bus per day. As a Motorhome owner, we were dependent on the service as my wife cannot walk for any great distance. The site managers came to our rescue and offered a lift to the local railway station and even gave me their number for the return trip. This was greatley appreciated but in the end the terrible weather got the better of us and we didn't make it anyway. We left early on the Sunday as the whole weekend was a washout but this has no bearing on the welcome or the potential for a future visit given that we have more luck with the weather. At least we had a great Sunday lunch at the Rising Sun pub (in Umberleigh) en-route to home.

We called in on an off chance that there might any vacancies. Although they should have been fully booked someone left a day early, so we were able to stay. We were made very welcome, and shown to our pitch. The site was very clean, we stayed for a further two nights. It is a lovely site, clean, quiet and restful. I felt very refreshed to go back to work after a long weekend.

The first time we have stayed at a club site for many years, and was not imnpressed, not what we call for the true camper, ok for holiday camper, (no disrespect to holiday makers), I would recommend camping to anyone.
PET OWNERS BEWARE, our dog picked up 5 TICKS while there, not nice.
We were not impressed at being lead to our pitch and told exacly how to put the caravan, (not true camping).
Maybe this is how it is in all CC own sites these days, maybe it is how it is through the quantity of campers ?
But from now on we will only use the small listed sites where the true spirit of camping is still around.
The cost difference is also a bonus.
apart from that, the site managers were reasonable friendly, and kept the site very well indeed.

This has become one of my favorite sites. We had a lovely friendly welcome when we arrived and given a choice of pitches. The site was in stunning countryside and extremely peaceful. The facilities were spotless, abundant showers and toilets. My 10 year old was very happy with the range of activities available. Play park, football field, skittles, pool, table tennis and even tennis if you were more energetic. The wardens had only just taken over the park, but they were so efficient and friendly you think they had been there for years. We will be back as soon as we can.

I have stayed on this site on two occasions and would rate this site as excellent. Very good facilities for children - more than is provided on most club sites e.g. games barn, tennis courts, games field and the usual climbing frame. Shower facilities were good and not a problem for my two children (10 and 3 yr old). Dog walking facilities good and i did not witness any dog mess not picked. Dog mess bins are provided. A very peaceful site with nice walks to Umberleigh. Not a lot in Umberleigh, but there is a very nice pub next to the river. A train station is very convenient for trips to Barnstaple or Exeter. A very good site and will return again. Thankyou Unberleigh for a very enjoyable stay.

I don't normally react to the reviews, but the description given by anonymous does not match my feelings. I have been there with my grandchildren, 3 times, and they and I love it.
I even spent a week convalescing there.(My son put the tent up, and took it down)

I have already done one review but feel that I must comment on the review by annonymous. The shower facilities are like many other club sites and are pretty standard for the club and should be perfectly ok for children and if not it would mean that the children should not be on their own because they are too young. This site IS child friendly with a designated sports field and a games room and tennis court. It is more child friendly than many other sites. What other facilities does the annonymous reviewer want? When you go camping you tend to play outdoor ball type games and ample provision is provided for this.People want relaxation and independence and not to be nannyed.
Finally the facilities are in line with other club sites and that is why I use club sites because I know what standard I will get which is good.
I too did not like some of the actions of a minority of dog owners, but you cannot blame the site management for this but the members concerned.
By the way there is also a baby changing room which is not available on all other sites.
You've got my vote Umberleigh, keep up the good work

This is a well maintained site and even has a TV and games room. There appears to be a limited space for tents although not fully utilised during my stay.
The only downside for me was too many dogs. Although there are signs in the dog walking field to keep dogs on a lead this was ignored by some owners. When I am on holiday I do not want to see or hear dogs.
The site would benefit from a couple of street type lights, especially from the main site to the TV and games room.

It has fixed shower heads and push button for water through showerhead to come through and no hot/cold dial knob. Because of no hot/cold control it is quite hot especially not suitable for young children less than 16/older people.
Having said this that it should be made clear that this campsite isn't suitable for young children as there isn't any bath facilities as they are forced to have showers with adult supervision.
There are no signs stating that you have to mop up when you shower. Campsite needs to be deaf aware. Deaf awareness skills would be of huge benefit especially for a lot of the population are deaf regardless of age.
I'm a dog owner and always kept my dog on the lead but have found a few dog owners not keeping their dogs on the leads especially in the dog walking area and some do not clear the dog poos up.
There were some people have a late night chatting session around 10pm and it can be heard to those staying in tents. Apart from the dog walking area and the little woodland nearby there aren't any dog walking available such as public footpaths - it would be great if there were some available as yet the site is in the countryside!
There were no freezer facilities to allow for use of personal ice-blocks instead we had to hire them and they are pricey!
