Fantastic site in the middle of Delarmere Forest. Great for walking, cycling or just chilling outside the van. The Go Ape adventure is only a 2 minute walk through the forest, although this time we didn't venture along the zip line we will definitely give it a go next time we visit. The train station is only a 2 minute walk and despite the location you hardly ever hear the trains. Site staff very friendly and accommodating. We unfortunately forgot to book our awning but the staff were more than helpful and gave us a pitch so we could put our awning up for the dog. Many thanks it is defo a site we will revisit regularly.

This was our first outing with our new caravan, two girls and two dogs.
On arrival we were guided to our pitch by John, who was excellent in helping a novice like myself reverse into place. The site itself was great, maybe we would choose a slightly different pitch next time, as we were close to the road, and our tv reception was zero, but it did not put us off. Have a great time.

If you enjoy staying in your Motorhome/Caravan all day and watching TV this is the site for you! Any outdoor activity is seen as trouble! If you have children please book somewhere else!!! It's a pity the Wardens have also took this line and the crowded reception area on my arrival shows they mean business! If this is the future of the Caravan and Camping Club then it may be a short one!!! Great location but bad vibe site! Sorry this is honest and justified.

Really enjoyed our time on plot 19 April 6th-15th,including walks out in forest and to the visitors centre close by. We used the train quite a bit travelling to Chester for a day. Another day we did the same again to Northwich. We managed to acquire a short walks booklet from Chester Station,it included walks from different stations on the Chester to Manchester line, none of which were over 3.5miles. The campsite are hoping to have some of these so do ask about it or get one at Chester Station, very useful if you're a walker. We also did quite a bit of just relaxing with tea and a good book. Do visit this site,it is well worth it and we will certainly visit again probably October or November time. You can be sure of a warm friendly welcome. Just watch your footwear doesn't get awash from the showers. Sorry couldn't give 5 Stars for shower facilities, but when you have been to Teversal Site, I've not seen any in England to beat them. But all in all,for us a good site. Well Done

A lovely site well situated for visiting Chester Zoo and Chester - 5 mins walk to the railway station to catch train to Chester or Manchester yet train noise minimal. Good cycling from site straight into forest. Site wardens friendly and helpful, good sized flat pitches. Lovely clean facilities showers hot shame they are push button and only stay on a few seconds. Children request a play area however will definitely visit again.

We had 2 nights at Delamere just before Good Friday 2013. The heavy snowfall had delayed the start of our stay but we were determined to try out our new campervan and the site staff had worked hard to clear the roadways of the snow to allow access to the hard pitches. The welcome was warm and friendly. Although experienced campers we'd not used electric hook up before and Steve's help finding our hidden switch and solving our gas bottle problems were invaluable. The location of the site is ideal as we could walk from the van straight into the forest and go for a day trip to Chester all without moving the van. We parked just by the railway line and were not troubled at all by the noise. We have already recommended the site to friends. Thanks

We have just returned from your break at this site (last week of March 2013) we arrived with a foot of snow on site, but even with all the snow the staff were brilliant, so helpful, we had help with clearing snow from our pitch and given a very warm welcome. The toilet block and showers were spotless and to a very high standard, TV and WIFI reception is good. It is a small site so lacks a children's play area, also could do with another toilet and shower block
as when site is busy you do have to queue. Having said that can't really fault this site in anyway. Would book again although would book in better weather, snow was still there when we left.

It's 100miles to this site from our home in Anglesey. We don't think twice about passing every site on the way to Delamere. Just how it would be without Karen and Steve I wouldn't like to say. This just isn't the best site in the club, it's the best site on the planet. Plot 11 is our preference followed by 9 & 10. If you watch telly a satellite is needed. We've just holidayed through the worst snow in the uk and the site was well up to coping. If you want wi-fi it's there but don't expect much for your money. (not the staff's fault).

Lovely site with lots of places to visit within easy reach.
We were there when snow hit and had to stay for a couple of extra days. The wardens were really helpful at this time and during all of our stay.
There was some traffic during rush hour but mostly quiet at other times. Showers lovely and warm, well maintained.
We definitely plan to visit again.

We have just come back from Delamere and just wanted to let people know what an excellent site it is. Welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable staff enabled us to enjoy a late break (December) despite heavy rain on arrival and leaving. This was no real problem as the gravel pitches and site roads were excellent. Nearby attractions explored included the Forest (adjacent) Anderton Boat Lift at Nothwich, Oulton Park and the beautifull Cheshire countryside with many great houses. This was our second short visit, it will not be our last.

We visited Delamere for a long weekend last week and was surprised at how lovely it is. Caravan backed on to the woods and you only had to walk behind and through a gate to get to the forest and the lake, wonderful.
We also took a trip into Chester by train, the station is right next to the campsite so you can walk there go into Chester, do a bit of shopping and then have a meal on the way back to the station. (One tip however, don't forget to take a torch if you're coming back in the dark so you can find your way along the road back to the campsite) We went to a restaurant by the river called Artichokes where they allowed our dog in which was a bonus also.
So all in all a superb visit and we have already booked to go back next weekend!

A great site in a great location with really friendly and helpful staff.
Fantastic location for exploring the forest on foot or on a bike, or for catching a train into Chester and exploring the historic city.
There's a good Chinese restaurant a couple of min's up the road if you fancy a meal out, we had really good food in nice surroundings and the price was reasonable, or you can order and collect a carry out. A little further up is a pub that does food, but I can't comment on how good it is as we didn't try it. The cafe at the railway station is a great place, nice food, nice prices and much friendlier than the cafe in the forest. All in all a fantastic site for an active or a relaxing break.

The staff were very helpfull and gave us a choice of pitch as we had two children (4 and 2 years old). the site was nice quiet dispite being next to the main road and a train station. The paths though the woods were great for cycling and walking. The facilities were spotless all the time which given the rain we had on a couple of days was amazing. The chip van that came round twice in the time we were there was the best we had had from a van in a very long time. The only thing in my opinoin the site needs is a childrens play area. the wood were good but our youngest loves slides and swings other than that it was perfect.

Nice site in country surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Plenty of walks in the forest and around the lake. Railway within yards of site for Chester and Manchester - half hourly service. The cafe at the station serves good meals but the best home made steak and kidney pies are at the store just along the road from site.

The site is located within the forest and all the pitches are in a clear area allowing plenty of light throughout the day. The facilities and grounds are well maintained and in excellent condition.
The site is ideally located to travel to Chester, Liverpool or Manchester as the railway station is just outside the site if you do not want to drive. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The pressure switches for the showers require setting as a single press lasted approximately 5 seconds.
The forest provides opportunities to cycle, walk or take part on the Go Ape high ropes course. For people who enjoy walking longer distances it is possible to walk to Chester from the site on a marked footpath called Bakers Way, this follows forest tracks, roads, crosses farmers fields and then follows the canal into Chester.

Toilet/ shower block was very busy. They could do with more toilets at the opposite end of the site as if you are pitched at the far end it is a fair walk. Why do we have to have a code for access to the toilet/ shower block, it's a nuisance. We did find that a lot of children on bikes were cycling across other peoples pitches as shortcuts instead of going around. Lovely town of Chester approx 10 miles away, well worth a visit. Would consider going back in school time.

This could be an excellent family campsite that falls short with thoughtless design. Mainly the toilet block is the problem area. The code lock to gain access is far too high. My son aged 8 had to stand on tip toes to reach the lock. I understand the reasons for needing a lock, but why it's made deliberately difficult for children to reach is beyond me. The showers seem to only stay on for a few seconds, why they haven't been adjusted to ensure users aren't blinded with shampoo is questionable.
Site is reasonably tidy, but misses the pitch marking posts, so our tent was wedged in extremely closely to a caravan and car (my guy lines were less than a foot from the car). Seems like extra room and pitch space is allotted to caravans and motor homes while tents are expected to fit in around anything with wheels.
For these reasons, the facilities loose two stars. It's a good site that could be great, with just a little thinking things through of the facilities.

Derrysue reviewed Delamere Forest Club Campsite...
Delamere is a nice site but is far more geared towards caravans and campervans than tents, which is a shame. The majority of the pitches are handstanding, with a large and a small grassed area, the small one is opposite reception and didn't appear to have EHU.
Some of the grass pitches get very waterlogged, as do some of the hard standing. The site could benefit from some additional work to improve drainage.
As to the reviews that mention the noise, well the road can be loud at times, but you don't notice it after a while, and there is only 1 train an hour in each direction on the railway so hardly noticiable at all, and they stop early.
Chip van was great, as was the pizza van. Location next to the station was brilliant, £10 each return to Liverpool and trains every 15 minutes from Chester to Liverpool.
One word of warning, the EHU points have large lights on the top. They light up the tent like a search light at night. We wearn't told and so it was shining right into one of the bedroom pods, rather like sleeping with the light on!

Good site for all in essense. However previous posts about restrictions are correct. Reception is only open for 2 one hour slots, which was disappointing. No ball games /throwing of anything frisbee's and kites etc, which with toddler was also disappointing.
Previous posts speak as if the forest makes up for this, but I have to say that if your children are on the younger side there was nothing at the forest centre for them i.e. no dedicated play area etc. Although lots of space.
Great location and if you want to busy yourself with cities, museums, zoos etc you can get to many places from Delamere (especially using the railway) as you can get to Liverpool, Manchester, & Chester easily.
A nicely painted family washroom was a lovely touch.
My only personal annoyance was codes for the general toilets, which I haven't come accross before, and again with a toddler needing quick access to toilets could have proved problematic.
The site is lovely and is suitable for all, but if you have very young children I would suggest that you may get more out of it when they are older.
However the sheer variety of places that were accessible from the site, mean that we would definitely go back.

A beautifully well kept site. Set at the side of Delamere Forest, with fantastic walks and a wide variety of wild life. There is a road and railway track not too far away but the noise was minimal and certainly did not detract from our holiday.
The site was one of the cleanest i have ever visited and the wardens some of the friendliest. They got us sited in a beautiful spot and recommended places of interest in the nearby vicinity.
The rain had been relentless prior to our arrival, but as the site is so well drained this wasn't a problem.
We will definitely be returning for another holiday in the near future.

Just back from 3 nights here. Excellent site and very friendly welcome. Pitch (hardstanding) was more than big enough for our VW camper. Having read some of the negative comments I wonder if they were on the same site.. The road and rail noise was negligble and I was never aware of any aircraft noise. Ecxellent access to the forest direct from site for walks and cycling - lakes (meres), woods and plenty to keep busy. Also ecxellent having station so near with Chester only 15 mins away (an excellent day out) and Manchester about an hour.I can understand no ball games on site (though I did see some small children playing ball with dad!) since there are acres of woods and open spaces for that.. The only comment I would agree on is the VERY short time on teh push botton for the showers - am all for saving water but 5 seconds is a little short - showering and washing hair one handed isn't easy. Overall a great site and will be back.

Second visit to Delamere and again we were not disappointed, even though we arrived too late for the chip van.
The staff were good at helping us to overcome the failings of the online booking system (surely a camper van can be given more than just its footprint for a pitch without having to explain!) and the facilities were good. The lost start on cleanliness is more a reflection of the behaviour of our fellow campers, some of whom must live in squalor judging by how they leave sinks and showers. Can't fault the staff and their cleaning routines at all.

Really enjoyed the site. I can see some people would find it challenging with kids as you need to go into the woods to play as there just isn't the room to do so on the site. Of course you could bring bikes and use the path as a racetrack, but that's not really fair to others is it?
It's well laid out, though the facilities other than fresh water are all down at one end of the site. That's because its in the Forest so drainage for waste water has to be limted.
Saying we visited on one of the worst weekends for weather this season, we enjoyed it and will be back!

Just returned from this site. It was our first visit and would recommend to anyone who enjoys walking or bike riding due to the proximity of Delemere forest center. Didn't have to move the car whilst there which is a real bonus and took train into Chester which leaves from the station behind the site every hour. (rather expensive train its got to be said if you have a load of kids in tow perhaps the park and ride might be a cheaper option). The site facilities where clean as you would expect on a Club site however no ball games of any kind which is a bit of a disappointment if your 8. There is mention in reviews of train noise. Yes there is but not as loud as the main road which also runs nearby. However don't let this put you off as a great site.

Third visit to this beautiful site, with so much forest all around us giving great walks for our dog and excellent facilities for a peaceful and quiet stay but within reach of good facilities (don't believe what you might read about noise, it is really insignificant). Excellent welcome, very helpful wardens and good variety of pitches to choose from.
Small negatives - The central grass area is accessed by a gateway with a dip that fills with water when it rains - this needs filling in.
Push-button showers save water - but are annoying as they spring off too quickly. Not enough to stop me coming back though!

We have just returned from a week stay at this site. The + points of this site are its location. Chester , Manchester & Liverpool are all within 30 min drive, You can walk straight out of the site in to the forest, Go Ape & the train station are only a few hundred yards away, great for a stress free trip to Chester or Manchester. Staff are friendly .
The negative points are the showers only give 5 seconds of water so you have to have a shower 1 handed as the water stops !! The other negative point is no play park for the kids, they just cycle round & round ! Having said this, we will be back for the forest walks!

The reviews for this site were mixed, and we wanted to make our own minds up. We thought the comments re noise were unrealistic, there is traffic noise, and train noise, but it is punctuated with birdsong and peace. The site is ideal for exploring the forest, and the intriguing meres. The train to Chester was great, and much enjoyed. This is a good site, possibly best out of season.

Our first time with the Camping club and i guess our last if this site is indicative of others.
Water point was handy just near our pitch, grey water 200 yards further away in a different direction. Chemical toilet disposal another 200 yards away in yet another direction, toilet block still further away and bins yet even further. Good if you need the exercise.
On the plus side nice big pitches and the warden helped to get us in.

I am FED UP with the amount of negative feedback about Delamere. It's a natural forest environment and there have to be restrictions. Had no problems whatsoever here, Steve and Karen are pleasant and friendly, and plenty of things to enjoy round the forest area.
The main reason why there are no ball games is simple - The main road and the railway, use the forest for ball games! - I encourage anyone to visit and for those people who can't be bothered to do anything but complain, make the most of what there is in Delamere or it may be lost!!!

the location of the site next to the railway means it is noisey, both from the trains and the main road, oh and the planes passing over. The showers though hot drove me mad as they switch off after 5 secs....as do the taps..dont get time to wet your hands before it switches off again.

I would just like to let you know what a wonderful year we have had camping with the Club. I have taken a year off this year so had lots of camping breaks. We started our adventures in April at Winchcombe and travelled to Corfe Castle from there. We had glorious weather; the scenery was fantastic we visited Swanage and Studland Bay. In May we went to Sandringham, sadly the Queen wasn’t in, the site was set in beautiful grounds, and we visited Brancaster and Huntingham. Later that month we went to Hereford and here we visited The Weir and Symonds Yat. In June we went to Cheddar, Mendip Heights again outstanding views, we visited Glastonbury Tor and Wells. In July we went to Chipping Norton and we went to Cornbury Festival, we have been for the last 5 years, great music and wonderful atmosphere. At the end of the month we went to Veryan, again fantastic weather and views, we visited St Mawes, Falmouth, St Austall, Truro and local villages. We also camped at Bath on our way back to visit our daughter. August we went to Chard, not a club sites, not impressive. In September we went to Delamere Forest, had a lovely time at Chester and exploring the forest. In October we went to Preston, again not a club site, but we wanted to take our daughter to the illuminations .In between all these breaks we have had short stays at our second home Woverley. We would like to say every club site gave us a warm friendly welcome and we will not be going to non club sites next year. We store our caravan at Wolverley and sadly have just put it away for the winter, We would like to give a huge thank you to Carol and Mike Aspery, and their assistants for looking after us and our caravan for the 5th year, always friendly, helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to next season Merry Christmas to those now starting their winter break.

Although we haven't visited this site since April, we are due to go again soon and have stayed several times as it is convenient for visiting family & friends. We have always found the Wardens to be very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble, especially when we had to leave due to a family emergency, they were very helpful and kind. No, it doesn't have a playpark but there's a whole forest out there. And we met plenty of young families enjoying a great time without frisbees, footballs etc. There are many sites catering for these tastes and if that's what you want, Delamere is not for you. Yes there is a train station nearby and of course Liverpool & Manchester airports, but this has never disturbed us. There are so many places to visit within easy reach to suit all ages and tastes and the Wardens are always ready to help with suggestions/advice.

Visited the site in August and we were a wee bit concerned regarding some of the reviews, however we need not have been concerned at all. Got a warm welcome and lots of information, like the usual, what the site was all about, but also telling us of a pizza van and fish and chip van and when they would be there
Toilets and showers were spotless and the site was kept very clean. Yes we did hear planes and trains and also a wee bit of road noise but hey do we not here those kind of things at home. They certainly were not bad enough to spoil our holiday. There was a bit of a dip on the way out and having an older caravan we were a bit worried but even that was not a problem. If i had to make a negative comment it would be regarding the trees at the outside of the site the blocked the view of the road a wee bit. Would recommend this site to anyone it was friendly quite and very clean. Fabulous holiday will be going back again and again.

Looking at reviews was a little concerned re: showers etc. However, the welcome we received was warm and we were impressed with the cleanliness of the toilet/shower facilities. The showers were the push button type but good flow and lovely and hot. Always immaculately kept. The attached woods provided us with some lovely walks and the local visitor centre's food was excellent value. Train to Chester was on the hour so didn't need to drive. Planes caused no problem, certainly didn't keep us awake. We were at the other end away from trainline so couldn't hear it but it was only hourly and not very noisy. Road noise was apparent from about 6 am. Apart from that lovely site. Only bonus would be an area for the older kids to kick a ball around. Thank you to the staff- will be back.

had a mixed view about this site, pitches were big and level, but depending on where you were pitched you had some noise coming from the train station and the flight path, we also found it quite a walk to the toilet block from our pitch, and by the time you walked up and typed the door code in you were desperate for the toilet. Wardens were very friendly and site was kept very clean and tidy. My kids were a bit lost without a play park to play in even though they found a tree swing in the forest, entry gate to the park is in a small dip and can be hard to exit from site due to bushes sticking out. Not sure if I would return to this site again.

A welcoming and friendly site with nice staff. A great location for walking and cycling - ideal for families etc. Th e toilet/shower block facilities were always clean but did get busy (we had to queue a couple of times), and the timer taps in the showers only lasted a few seconds which became a bit irritating. The site does have a railway line and road running adjacent to it - but these didn't detract from the overall peace and quite. To conclude - a recommended site worthy of a visit if you're planning outdoor activities etc.

We recieved a warm welcome from the friendly wardens who showed us to our pitch. Theyb also supplied us with information regarding the local area. There is some noise from the nearby road and railway line, but it did not spoil our stay. The facilities were very good and clean, our only criticism would be that the shower cubicles were on the small side and that it was necessary to keep pressing the shower button every few seconds.

We have just come back from Delamere, and although we found it a lovely setting, we would say that this is not the campsite for us. The site itself is very clean with a surrounding forest and lake which is ideal for walking and dog walkers. However this was spoilt by over zealous jobsworth wardens who clamp down on anyone trying to have an enjoyable break. First of all, we were allocated our pitch and proceeded to set up our tent only to be told to take it down and move it as we were 2 feet over our pitch despite there being more than ample room, Secondly, I would not recommend this site for families who like to do the normal family stuff whilst camping as ballgames and frisbees are not permitted. Nor are campfires, even though they are off the ground. As for comments about the noise, I would say that there is minimal to worry about apart from the occasional train, but the amount of people moaning on this site about it does suprise me as 90% of the people on the campsite site seemed to prefer to sit inside their campervans watching tv than actually being outdoors. We have been to many a compsite over the years but just not our idea of a camping holiday for the family. Overall, very disappointed and will not be returning.

The site is easy to find and the welcome was warm but not too 'over friendly'. After checking in, the warden showed us to our pitch, which he selected after looking at our van (an old VW bus) and it turned out to be just right; flat, near the gate and facilities, and amongst tents rather than flashy motorhomes and huge caravans.
The facilities are very clean, and although there are only 4 showers for each sex, we did not have to queue at all. The chip van in Sunday evening was a lovely surprise though we were prepared for some basic cooking.
Other reviews mention noise, but we suffered none at all; we could JUST hear the train, but it is only once an hour, and absolutely NO aircraft noise.
The forest is great to walk through (buy the guide) and there are a couple of pubs nearby (30 minutes to 1 hour on foot). Chester is 20 minutes on the train.
A lovely weekend, highly recommended.

The site was excellent for everyone - the 2 kids and the dog loved being right next to the forest and it provided some well needed shade. First of all, the welcome that we received at this site was brilliant. The people were friendly and helpful. The facilities are adequate, but my husband was not impressed by having his feet washed in the run off from the next shower cubicle.
The site itself is deceptive, it looks peaceful and tranquil surrounded by trees, but unfortunately the noise was enough to spoil our stay. The site is right next to a railway station and the trains are not quiet, however, the road traffic and aircraft noise (under a flight path) is enough to make you wish you'd brought earplugs!
The nail in the coffin of our stay was the other people on the site. Kids were allowed to use the roads around the site as a bicycle race track, constantly shouting and screaming as they went. When they tired of this, they raced around between the pitches with the parents hardly batting an eyelid.
All in all, a nice place ruined. We will not be returning to this particular site.

Despite the warm welcome and the good standard of the site facilities, our stay was blighted by the level of noise on the site. Not only is the site next to a railway station, it also seems to be on the direct flight path of either Manchester or Liverpool airports, aircraft pass over at around 1000ft from 0500 ~ 2300, nice alarm call. Also, the site is next to quite a busy road. Wether atypical to our stay the site was over run by noisy children using the site as a race track for mountain bikes. Disappointed - yes.

Very pleasant location, good sized pitches some with nice views. Good for dog walking in the adjacent forest.Convenient for train to Chester. Forest Visitor Centre and cafe nearby, but shops and pubs some distance down busy road, so less suitable for motorhomers. Insufficient waste water points, also would have had to take motorhome through 2 gates and round one way system to fill up or empty: luckily I have plastic cans and a trolley, as the faciities are at one end of the site. They were very clean as usual, but the showers are dire, giving a powerful 3 second burst of water to the face (and clothes if you haven't got the curtain carefully arranged!) and needing repeated presses on the button to continue. This annoying lack of attention to detail spoils what could be an excellent site.

Caravan shop about a mile away for any parts etc that may be needed and shop in village about half a mile away. Nice little village called frodsham with restaurants and pubs but about 5 min drive also oulton park racing about 5 mins was not open when we went but if like bike/car racing would be great. no park for the kids but a forrest for them to enjoy
