Just back from 3 nights here. Excellent site and very friendly welcome. Pitch (hardstanding) was more than big enough for our VW camper. Having read some of the negative comments I wonder if they were on the same site.. The road and rail noise was negligble and I was never aware of any aircraft noise. Ecxellent access to the forest direct from site for walks and cycling - lakes (meres), woods and plenty to keep busy. Also ecxellent having station so near with Chester only 15 mins away (an excellent day out) and Manchester about an hour.I can understand no ball games on site (though I did see some small children playing ball with dad!) since there are acres of woods and open spaces for that.. The only comment I would agree on is the VERY short time on teh push botton for the showers - am all for saving water but 5 seconds is a little short - showering and washing hair one handed isn't easy. Overall a great site and will be back.

The staff could not have been more helpful when my husband had an accident with his push bike. They telephoned a hospital for me and printed out directions. We like this site because of the cycling with our grand-children and the close proximity to the Delemere forest. This has not put us off and we will be back. Thanks again.

Second visit to Delamere and again we were not disappointed, even though we arrived too late for the chip van.
The staff were good at helping us to overcome the failings of the online booking system (surely a camper van can be given more than just its footprint for a pitch without having to explain!) and the facilities were good. The lost start on cleanliness is more a reflection of the behaviour of our fellow campers, some of whom must live in squalor judging by how they leave sinks and showers. Can't fault the staff and their cleaning routines at all.

Really enjoyed the site. I can see some people would find it challenging with kids as you need to go into the woods to play as there just isn't the room to do so on the site. Of course you could bring bikes and use the path as a racetrack, but that's not really fair to others is it?
It's well laid out, though the facilities other than fresh water are all down at one end of the site. That's because its in the Forest so drainage for waste water has to be limted.
Saying we visited on one of the worst weekends for weather this season, we enjoyed it and will be back!

This is an excelent site, the wardens are very friendly and helpful and nothing is to much trouble for them.We had a great time, and the chip van coming on site is a bonus, no cooking, haha.
The station [which also has a great cafe for bacon butties]is a short walk away, you can go to Chester one way and Manchester the other way,so you can have a good day out and not have to move your motohome, or even if you have a caravan, you can leave your car on site, and let someone else take the strain. We will be staying there again soon.

Just returned from this site. It was our first visit and would recommend to anyone who enjoys walking or bike riding due to the proximity of Delemere forest center. Didn't have to move the car whilst there which is a real bonus and took train into Chester which leaves from the station behind the site every hour. (rather expensive train its got to be said if you have a load of kids in tow perhaps the park and ride might be a cheaper option). The site facilities where clean as you would expect on a Club site however no ball games of any kind which is a bit of a disappointment if your 8. There is mention in reviews of train noise. Yes there is but not as loud as the main road which also runs nearby. However don't let this put you off as a great site.

Third visit to this beautiful site, with so much forest all around us giving great walks for our dog and excellent facilities for a peaceful and quiet stay but within reach of good facilities (don't believe what you might read about noise, it is really insignificant). Excellent welcome, very helpful wardens and good variety of pitches to choose from.
Small negatives - The central grass area is accessed by a gateway with a dip that fills with water when it rains - this needs filling in.
Push-button showers save water - but are annoying as they spring off too quickly. Not enough to stop me coming back though!

We have just returned from a week stay at this site. The + points of this site are its location. Chester , Manchester & Liverpool are all within 30 min drive, You can walk straight out of the site in to the forest, Go Ape & the train station are only a few hundred yards away, great for a stress free trip to Chester or Manchester. Staff are friendly .
The negative points are the showers only give 5 seconds of water so you have to have a shower 1 handed as the water stops !! The other negative point is no play park for the kids, they just cycle round & round ! Having said this, we will be back for the forest walks!

The reviews for this site were mixed, and we wanted to make our own minds up. We thought the comments re noise were unrealistic, there is traffic noise, and train noise, but it is punctuated with birdsong and peace. The site is ideal for exploring the forest, and the intriguing meres. The train to Chester was great, and much enjoyed. This is a good site, possibly best out of season.

Our first time with the Camping club and i guess our last if this site is indicative of others.
Water point was handy just near our pitch, grey water 200 yards further away in a different direction. Chemical toilet disposal another 200 yards away in yet another direction, toilet block still further away and bins yet even further. Good if you need the exercise.
On the plus side nice big pitches and the warden helped to get us in.

I am FED UP with the amount of negative feedback about Delamere. It's a natural forest environment and there have to be restrictions. Had no problems whatsoever here, Steve and Karen are pleasant and friendly, and plenty of things to enjoy round the forest area.
The main reason why there are no ball games is simple - The main road and the railway, use the forest for ball games! - I encourage anyone to visit and for those people who can't be bothered to do anything but complain, make the most of what there is in Delamere or it may be lost!!!

I would just like to let you know what a wonderful year we have had camping with the Club. I have taken a year off this year so had lots of camping breaks. We started our adventures in April at Winchcombe and travelled to Corfe Castle from there. We had glorious weather; the scenery was fantastic we visited Swanage and Studland Bay. In May we went to Sandringham, sadly the Queen wasn’t in, the site was set in beautiful grounds, and we visited Brancaster and Huntingham. Later that month we went to Hereford and here we visited The Weir and Symonds Yat. In June we went to Cheddar, Mendip Heights again outstanding views, we visited Glastonbury Tor and Wells. In July we went to Chipping Norton and we went to Cornbury Festival, we have been for the last 5 years, great music and wonderful atmosphere. At the end of the month we went to Veryan, again fantastic weather and views, we visited St Mawes, Falmouth, St Austall, Truro and local villages. We also camped at Bath on our way back to visit our daughter. August we went to Chard, not a club sites, not impressive. In September we went to Delamere Forest, had a lovely time at Chester and exploring the forest. In October we went to Preston, again not a club site, but we wanted to take our daughter to the illuminations .In between all these breaks we have had short stays at our second home Woverley. We would like to say every club site gave us a warm friendly welcome and we will not be going to non club sites next year. We store our caravan at Wolverley and sadly have just put it away for the winter, We would like to give a huge thank you to Carol and Mike Aspery, and their assistants for looking after us and our caravan for the 5th year, always friendly, helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to next season Merry Christmas to those now starting their winter break.

Although we haven't visited this site since April, we are due to go again soon and have stayed several times as it is convenient for visiting family & friends. We have always found the Wardens to be very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble, especially when we had to leave due to a family emergency, they were very helpful and kind. No, it doesn't have a playpark but there's a whole forest out there. And we met plenty of young families enjoying a great time without frisbees, footballs etc. There are many sites catering for these tastes and if that's what you want, Delamere is not for you. Yes there is a train station nearby and of course Liverpool & Manchester airports, but this has never disturbed us. There are so many places to visit within easy reach to suit all ages and tastes and the Wardens are always ready to help with suggestions/advice.

Visited the site in August and we were a wee bit concerned regarding some of the reviews, however we need not have been concerned at all. Got a warm welcome and lots of information, like the usual, what the site was all about, but also telling us of a pizza van and fish and chip van and when they would be there
Toilets and showers were spotless and the site was kept very clean. Yes we did hear planes and trains and also a wee bit of road noise but hey do we not here those kind of things at home. They certainly were not bad enough to spoil our holiday. There was a bit of a dip on the way out and having an older caravan we were a bit worried but even that was not a problem. If i had to make a negative comment it would be regarding the trees at the outside of the site the blocked the view of the road a wee bit. Would recommend this site to anyone it was friendly quite and very clean. Fabulous holiday will be going back again and again.

Looking at reviews was a little concerned re: showers etc. However, the welcome we received was warm and we were impressed with the cleanliness of the toilet/shower facilities. The showers were the push button type but good flow and lovely and hot. Always immaculately kept. The attached woods provided us with some lovely walks and the local visitor centre's food was excellent value. Train to Chester was on the hour so didn't need to drive. Planes caused no problem, certainly didn't keep us awake. We were at the other end away from trainline so couldn't hear it but it was only hourly and not very noisy. Road noise was apparent from about 6 am. Apart from that lovely site. Only bonus would be an area for the older kids to kick a ball around. Thank you to the staff- will be back.

had a mixed view about this site, pitches were big and level, but depending on where you were pitched you had some noise coming from the train station and the flight path, we also found it quite a walk to the toilet block from our pitch, and by the time you walked up and typed the door code in you were desperate for the toilet. Wardens were very friendly and site was kept very clean and tidy. My kids were a bit lost without a play park to play in even though they found a tree swing in the forest, entry gate to the park is in a small dip and can be hard to exit from site due to bushes sticking out. Not sure if I would return to this site again.

A welcoming and friendly site with nice staff. A great location for walking and cycling - ideal for families etc. Th e toilet/shower block facilities were always clean but did get busy (we had to queue a couple of times), and the timer taps in the showers only lasted a few seconds which became a bit irritating. The site does have a railway line and road running adjacent to it - but these didn't detract from the overall peace and quite. To conclude - a recommended site worthy of a visit if you're planning outdoor activities etc.

We recieved a warm welcome from the friendly wardens who showed us to our pitch. Theyb also supplied us with information regarding the local area. There is some noise from the nearby road and railway line, but it did not spoil our stay. The facilities were very good and clean, our only criticism would be that the shower cubicles were on the small side and that it was necessary to keep pressing the shower button every few seconds.

We have just come back from Delamere, and although we found it a lovely setting, we would say that this is not the campsite for us. The site itself is very clean with a surrounding forest and lake which is ideal for walking and dog walkers. However this was spoilt by over zealous jobsworth wardens who clamp down on anyone trying to have an enjoyable break. First of all, we were allocated our pitch and proceeded to set up our tent only to be told to take it down and move it as we were 2 feet over our pitch despite there being more than ample room, Secondly, I would not recommend this site for families who like to do the normal family stuff whilst camping as ballgames and frisbees are not permitted. Nor are campfires, even though they are off the ground. As for comments about the noise, I would say that there is minimal to worry about apart from the occasional train, but the amount of people moaning on this site about it does suprise me as 90% of the people on the campsite site seemed to prefer to sit inside their campervans watching tv than actually being outdoors. We have been to many a compsite over the years but just not our idea of a camping holiday for the family. Overall, very disappointed and will not be returning.

The site is easy to find and the welcome was warm but not too 'over friendly'. After checking in, the warden showed us to our pitch, which he selected after looking at our van (an old VW bus) and it turned out to be just right; flat, near the gate and facilities, and amongst tents rather than flashy motorhomes and huge caravans.
The facilities are very clean, and although there are only 4 showers for each sex, we did not have to queue at all. The chip van in Sunday evening was a lovely surprise though we were prepared for some basic cooking.
Other reviews mention noise, but we suffered none at all; we could JUST hear the train, but it is only once an hour, and absolutely NO aircraft noise.
The forest is great to walk through (buy the guide) and there are a couple of pubs nearby (30 minutes to 1 hour on foot). Chester is 20 minutes on the train.
A lovely weekend, highly recommended.

First of all, the welcome that we received at this site was brilliant. The people were friendly and helpful. The facilities are adequate, but my husband was not impressed by having his feet washed in the run off from the next shower cubicle.
The site itself is deceptive, it looks peaceful and tranquil surrounded by trees, but unfortunately the noise was enough to spoil our stay. The site is right next to a railway station and the trains are not quiet, however, the road traffic and aircraft noise (under a flight path) is enough to make you wish you'd brought earplugs!
The nail in the coffin of our stay was the other people on the site. Kids were allowed to use the roads around the site as a bicycle race track, constantly shouting and screaming as they went. When they tired of this, they raced around between the pitches with the parents hardly batting an eyelid.
All in all, a nice place ruined. We will not be returning to this particular site.

Despite the warm welcome and the good standard of the site facilities, our stay was blighted by the level of noise on the site. Not only is the site next to a railway station, it also seems to be on the direct flight path of either Manchester or Liverpool airports, aircraft pass over at around 1000ft from 0500 ~ 2300, nice alarm call. Also, the site is next to quite a busy road. Wether atypical to our stay the site was over run by noisy children using the site as a race track for mountain bikes. Disappointed - yes.

Very pleasant location, good sized pitches some with nice views. Good for dog walking in the adjacent forest.Convenient for train to Chester. Forest Visitor Centre and cafe nearby, but shops and pubs some distance down busy road, so less suitable for motorhomers. Insufficient waste water points, also would have had to take motorhome through 2 gates and round one way system to fill up or empty: luckily I have plastic cans and a trolley, as the faciities are at one end of the site. They were very clean as usual, but the showers are dire, giving a powerful 3 second burst of water to the face (and clothes if you haven't got the curtain carefully arranged!) and needing repeated presses on the button to continue. This annoying lack of attention to detail spoils what could be an excellent site.

Great modern site, flat and large pitch tents in middle on grass caravans around the outside as a rule. the site has access to the forrest and that is were you walk the dogs (need a torch) next to the railway which is not a main line and not high speed but do get the train around 7.30am going to chester but good for a day out. Caravan shop about a mile away for any parts etc that may be needed and shop in village about half a mile away. Nice little village called frodsham with restaurants and pubs but about 5 min drive also oulton park racing about 5 mins was not open when we went but if like bike/car racing would be great. no park for the kids but a forrest for them to enjoy

We only visited for two nights but we where extremely happy with the welcome we got from the staff. Was pleasantly surprised to learn we where in walking distance to "Go Ape". My children loved this and we loved walking the dogs round the forest while they where completing activities. Will go again, but make it longer so we can experience more than Go ape. Fish and Chip mobile shop on site Friday night, not as expensive as some other sites and even better quality and quantity of food.

Friendly Wardens, we were offered a choice of pitches.
The Toilet/Shower facilities were spotless. No kiddies play ground, but a whole Forrest to play in !!
If I was to be picky.... there are 3 or 4 Fresh Water Taps, but only 1 (excluding the Motor-home point) Waste Water Disposal point.
We will definitely use this site again.

This was my first camping trip so I chose a location quite close to home.
The site was clean, very friendly staff and in a great location next to Delamere Forest. The weather was a bit wet on the first night but the tent did not leak which is always a bonus.
If you enjoy walking or cycling this is a fantastic site to choose.
