A beautiful site on the edge of Dartmoor and also convenient for Tavistock. Very well-maintained, lovely views and excellent facilities. In the shower block there are very spacious cubicles which include shower, basin and toilet all in one room. The limited number of these shower rooms could become a problem when the site is full, but when we were there it was quiet despite it being a Bank Holiday. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the pitches in the area called The Terraces for their views of the hills. Some pitches are close to the road, but the road is not too busy and the site was very quiet.

We booked here for two nights but regret it now as we would have loved many more! We will come back later in the year as it is a superb site in easy reach of so many things to do. The wardens and their assistants are lovely, so welcoming and helpful. The facilities are excellent - the best I have seen for a long time, with individual bathrooms that are incredibly spacious and very clean. The site is near a road but it is really quiet at night and it is also quite dark at night (which we prefer). There is not a motorhome service point but the serviced pitches are a suitable alternative and there are many waterpoints etc around anyway. It is not easy driving up from Tavistock with a large vehicle as there are several places that the road narrows to one lane but with care it is fine and we had no problems. Would recommend a visit to Buckland Abbey - Francis Drake museum, Cistercian monastery and lovely walks for all abilities. Can't wait to come back!!!

The site just on the edge of Dartmoor and is accessible from the B3357 which can get a bit busy during the day. The B3357 from Tavistock has some pinch points and climbs most of the way. We didn't book this site but phoned ahead the day before. The site is slightly sloping and isn't a problem except for the very longest of units. The toilet block and CDP are in very good condition and kept very clean. The site itself is well laid out and kept well mown and tidy. Water, grey water and bins are located in several points around the site and easy reach from all of the pitches. The site is does not have excessive lighting and may not be to everyone's taste. The location is perfect for exploring the wilds of the Moor and the town of Tavistock. The Wardens are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. I would highly recommend this site to those wanting a peaceful holiday amongst the sometimes bleak moors.

This is the best site we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in over 45 sites during two tours of the UK.
The toilets and showers are exceptionally clean, very warm (it snowed whilst we were there) and well maintained. The site is clean and well laid out. It is right on the doorstep of the moors and close to lots of places to see and visit.
Well done.

Our 1st club site was recommended by friends who joined us in their camper van. An easy place to get to, a couple of short narrowish bits near the site are the reason for my moderate rating. A warm welcome on arrival & we were given neighbouring pitches at the top of the site, Road noise was screened reasonably by trees, I get more noise through my bedroom window at home!
A quick wander around the site showed the shower/toilet block was every bit as good as reviews say & our woofers loved the dog walk areas. The whole site had a nice feel about it.
We walked the 3 miles into Tavistock. Over moorland via the golf course was scenic & easy.
The Peter Tavy Inn provided an excellent evening with great food.
This site is only an hour or so from home, I have a feeling we’ll be returning often, there is loads more to explore in the area.

Location: On Tavistock/Princetown road 2m S of Peter Tavy, edge of Dartmoor; nrst pub about 40 min. walk.
Site: Typical C&CC site; no WI Fi; WC's very clean and tidy, all 'en suite type - bit over the top really, lots of HS and grass pitches; bit of road noise but Ok; bus stop outside for Tavistock (0.95p) and Princetown
Overall: Nice site very handy for Tavistock and access to Dartmoor, being careful on main road, popular area. Would revisit."

A great site just below the start of Dartmoor National Park. There is so much to see. The staff at the site are really helpful and cheerful. Great place to eat is the the Peter Tavy Inn. Food is really well presented and reasonably priced. You must also visit the Pixie shop at Dartmeet for all your gifts of Dartmoor pony poo (chocolate really) and other unusual things. The Dartmoor prison museum is also worth a visit with all it's gruesome exhibits. We have stayed at this site now three times and always get the same warm welcome. Our dogs loved it too.

This is the first club site I ever stayed at and what a standard it set.The whole site is kept spotlessly clean, the facilities are brilliant and the staff are so friendly as well as efficient.
There are two super dog walks; one which is fairly basic going up the hill and back; and the other, 'the nature trail', which goes up and round the top of the siteand down to a pond. I used to take my ageing parents for a walk round the nature trail for a nice gentle stroll after tea.
Tavistock is a great town with a lovely park sited between the river and the canal. It's a great town to walk around and take in the history of which there is plenty.
There are one or two places to eat within easy distance of the campsite but the best we've found is the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale, about a mile from the site. The food is excellent - all locally sourced plus their own bred lamb - and the owners are extremely friendly. I've spent a few lovely evenings there with my Dad, sat by the log fire with a nice pint of locally brewed ale.
I fully intend returning to this site as soon as possible to spend some time with my friend Sacha at this super place.

Walkers are us! (Club member) reviewed Tavistock Club Campsite...
This is a local site for us and often use it for weekend breaks. The facilities are fabulous with individual bathrooms, so plenty of room to move. The book does state that you can leave the car behind, that isn't strictly true. The site is on the main road up to the moors and can be a fast road so too dangerous to walk on. There is plenty to see and do in the area. Some of the pitches are sloping. Well worth a visit though.

We can echo the last reviewers comments, but we were blessed with lovely weather! The welcome was the best we have had at a C&CC site. It is brilliantly located for both cycling and walking. We managed 3 good walks over the tors and cycled to Plymouth using route 27. All without needing to move our camper van. The recycling facilities were also excellent. Something that other sites need to aspire to.

We chose this ite because the entry in "Your Big Sites Book" claimed "... the ideal spot to leave the car behind and explore the moorland paths" - this is misleading because access to moorland paths is about a mile along a dangerous fast road with no pavement, which cannot be recommended on foot. The website has recently changed to "You can leave the car behind ...". Yes you can if you want to take the risk. The site itself is very clean with immaculate toilet facilities. Because we look for sites to leave the car behind and enjoy walks we will not return to this site.

Warm, friendly welcome. Pitch options available, levelling blocks probably needed on most pitches. Immaculate, warm shower cubicles with w.c. and basin - sheer luxury! Site approx 2 miles from Tavistock. Local bus service not frequent though - so own transport advised. The road adjacent to site was not noisy although it is the only route across the moor and carries local commuter traffic. We hope to return before too long. Thoroughly recommended. Shopping in Tavistock with farmers market and Pannier Market is excellent. Moorland walking very near - lots to see and do in the Dartmoor area for all ages.

Having just read the last review (Claire), I'm wondering if I stayed on the same site!
My husband and I stayed for the full 28 days in October including the busiest period, the Tavistock Goose Fair. There were no queues for the showers - 6 ladies and 4 gents making 10 in total not 4 but, as mentioned, the shower rooms are fantastic, approx.8ft by 8ft and including loo, washbasin, mirror and ample hooks. The whole amenity block is heated round the clock.
I'm not sure what a touchy feely site is but if it means a friendly site with staff willing to put themselves out for you, then that's what you get at Tavistock. PC, the order of the day - pass. It certainly doesn't apply to this site or the staff.
There is a road running along one side of the site. It's the road from Tavistock to Princetown and is only busy during the early part of the morning and the later part of the afternoon. Further into the site, away from the road, traffic noise is hardly discernable and there's next to no traffic at all after dark.
The dogs at the nearby kennels do bark occassionally but they are far enough away not to pose a realistic problem. We never once heard other dogs on site barking in response to the kennel dogs.
For us,the whole month of October was one of peace and quiet in lovely surroundings with great staff and super amenities which, as with the rest of the site, were kept beautifully clean at all times (two stars for cleanliness????).
The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the previous reviewer has made an honest mistake and reviewed the wrong site.
Many people stay at Tavistock again and again and again. They wouldn't do that if it wasn't good.

Very touchy feely site, PC order of the day. Traffic noise is incessant, the barking from nearby kennels can be annoying as it starts all the dogs on the site off...bad in the evening. Spacious showers but only 4 of them for 90 people thats not a lot, like when its busy. But if you like Dartmoor you will easily forget all that.

An addition to our last comment.Nowhere could we find mention that ORGANIC toilet fluid should be used until we went to the disposal point on site. We think that this should be in the sites book and on the site web page. We had been to Scotland and fortunately had the correct fluid to go there, so could use it at Tavistock!

Wonderful spacious shower cubicles with toilet and washbasin in them which is quite unusual but very handy.Plenty of hooks and a soap dish in the shower.Very clean.
Dog walks are quite long but we preferred to drive 3/4 mile up the hill to a wonderful car park on the moor and let our little dog have a good sniff! and meet other dogs in a wide open space with wonderful views for us.
We enjoyed our stay but did not realise that the site abuts a fast stretch of road with the occasional very noisy car or motorbike but we were right up against the fence.
Very pleasant site managers.
P.S. If you do venture up the hill you may be lucky enough to encounter the Willys ice cream van. Ice crean to die for and a very reasonable price.

This has to be the most perfect campsite - I hesitated before writing this review because we wanted to keep this to ourselves, but it is only fair to share such a lovely, well kept, beautifully situated site. Extremely friendly staff, a very well maintained site and, as for the showers/bathrooms - well luxurious is the only thing to say! So many things to do nearby - National Trust properties at Cotehele and Buckland Abbey, beautiful market towns at Tavistock and Totnes, city (if you can't live without M&S!) in Plymouth - endless walks and adventures on Dartmoor, and not to far for a beach trip to Looe. This site is ideal and we cannot wait to return. Thank you!

Have just returned from a week spent at Tavistock. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even charging my laptop for me when I forgot my car charger. The site was spotless, the field we were in was sheltered and had great views. The bathrooms were clean, with plenty of showers and toilets for all. There was a good washing up area and the laundryfacilites were also good. If the site had a bar it would have been perfect. It is quite a way from anywhere so you do need to travel to any pubs/ resturarants. Thoroughly enjoyed it however and look forward to going back.

Having stayed on this site in October last year,we returned in March and again April this year. The welcome was what we had come to expect, warm and friendly, from site managers Nigel and Lynn and their assistants, Steve and Dawn. They all pull together to keep the site spotlessly clean, from the superb amenity block to the dog/nature walk. We were quite surprised that one reviewer had commented on the nearby kennels: Right through the April heatwave, when we were spending most of our four week stay outside, we rarely heard a bark, day or night. The kennels are not close enough to pose any problem.
The site is just inside the Dartmoor national park and the moor offers something for everyone. It's great to drive across the moor and visit the south coast resorts of Paignton, Brixham, etc. or drive north to Tintagel and Padstow. The historic site of Morwellham Quay, in the picturesque Tamar valley, is just the other side of town and was the setting for the brilliant "Edwardian Farm" TV series.
Tavistock is a super town with a great selection of shops and three supermarkets. The Pannier Market(indoor market)is a shopping/browsing experience not to be missed and there is ample parking in the town which also boasts a brand new swimming baths/cultural and entertainment centre, great library and an historic abbey.
We've visited club sites all over the UK and, in our opinion, this site is the tops in every respect.

Lovely site set on very edge of Dartmoor. Moor is easy to reach so you can give your car a rest if you want. Site set in a pleasant location with lots of shelter from stone walls, hedges and trees.
Site Managers Nigel and Lynn Benn very friendly and will go out of their way to help with all manner of things - just ask!
Washing and showering facilities are first class - but a more powerful hair dryer would be welcome in the ladies block.
Site shop has very limited range of goods. So only a 3/5 for site facilities.
Site is generaly quiet except for east corner of site which can suffer from noise of nearby dog kennels during daylight hours.

This is a lovely site right on the edge of Dartmoor with many pitches having views up onto the moor. The welcome from the wardens was very friendly and helpful, and they keep the site spotless. The facilities are excellent. The west side of Dartmoor is particularly good for walking and Tavistock is a pleasant old market town. We particularly recommend a walk or cycle ride on the old railway track which ran up to Princetown from Yelverton. A visit to Lydford Gorge is also a 'must', but be aware that access is limited in the winter months just to the 'White Lady' waterfall, not to the whole gorge.
