Just back from a 2 night break to Dunbar site. Very well laid out and relaxed place. Wardens very welcoming. Have 2 (well behaved) german shepherds who also had a great time and the views are lovely. Had a chilled out time here. I would recommend a visit to Coldingham and St Abbs. The beach at Coldingham is spotless.
One of my priorities when away is to be near a village - Dunbar is a bit of a walk away so used the car but it's a brisk 20 minute walk if you have the time!
It was very windy and had to fight with the porch awning on arrival - we really need the awning for the dogs so had to persevere and we got there - would not have been able to put up a full awning in the wind - just a point to note that it can be windy - but we were lucky as it was bright and sunny and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Will be back.

We went in October (our last of the year) and had a lovely peaceful time.
This is the fourth time we have been here and every time the Managers have been great, they will go with you to your chosen pitch and help you unhitch the caravan, if you are not sure that pitch to go into Alan will let you know the best one that is available.
The dogs Dougal and Bella love the walks there too !
Would recommend this site highly for the warm welcome and lovely clean facilities

We loved this site - beautiful views, lovely facilities and wonderful site managers (we wish them well with their retirement). We watched the ships, saw the aurora, loads of birds and a lovely walk to a clean, sandy beach. A lovely, relaxing time - we will definitely be back!

First time at this site, staff very friendly and facilities excellent. Views from the site to The Bass rock and beyond are very impressive. A good base for visiting various towns and attractiions in the area, one of which is the Seabird Centre at North Berwick. The only drawback of this site is that the beach area is not directly accessible.

We just loved this site and would rate it the best we have stayed on, staff were great and although we were aware of the caravan being towed away for storage for the 'poorly' member we were completely unaware that someone had had such trauma during our stay - such was the discretion of the staff.
A lovely place to stay very spacious, clean, comforatble and extremely well run - we will be back! Thanks to all the staff there.

This was the 3rd visit to this wonderful spacious campsite and certainly wont be our last.. We love it there, beautiful scenery and we have always found it very peaceful. The staff are so helpful and nothing seems too much trouble for them. For example, on our recent visit on the evening before we were due to leave , my partner took ill and Traci, the site assisant called an ambulance and we went to the new Edinburgh Infirmary where my partner was admitted to a ward, Istayed all night there but in the morning had to go back to campsite by taxi. Traci and husband Gary looked after my dog overnight and Gary even took him down to the beach for a runaround. Traci then just about did everything from taking my awning down to emptying the toilet, and water carrier and Allan( Manager) took our caravan and stored it on site till my partner is fit enough to collect it. I have never known such kindness and will never forget them for all they did in what to me was a traumatic time. I would recommend this campsite to everyone. Beautiful walks and Dunbar itself is a half hour walk away. We will always return there wher a welcome always awaits..

Just spent a wonderful 3 nights at this site. Staff friendly and helpful. Shower block immaculate. Pitches easy access and all have great view. Even when busy wasn't noisy. Good base, loads to do in area. One downside comment, always had to queue for shower in morning (ladies). Block closes between 10.30am and 12pm for cleaning, tried going at 7am, 8am and 9am, always had to q with more than 3 or 4 others. There are 6 toilet cubicles, 6 washing cubicles, and 4 showers, however for some reason, the staff lock off 2 toilets, 2 washing cubicles and 1 shower unless the site is full???? Heard other campers complaining about this also! Pity otherwise was great!

Second Visit to site not impressed with welcome apart from Gary who gave us some very helpful advice on our hitch. were adding my son and daughter in law to the booking for the night and ended up being charged for seven adults instead of two, eventually got it sorted out have never spent so much of my weekend in a site office showers etc were as usual spotless. It was a shame it did not get off to a good start would return if it was just the two of us .

Dunbar CCC Site is lovely (Club member) reviewed Dunbar Club Campsite...
Isobel and partner were every welcoming and took trouble to make sure we in our smaller tent were in a good, quiet location, given we were there on a very busy Jubilee week. The Paper-hat World Record on Monday 4th June was great fun! This site has a secluded feel, coastal & countryside outlook, even though just 2km outside Dunbar Town. Good facilities and sparkling clean. Skylarks and rabbits, great wildlife areas, wonderful views over the Firth Of Forth & out to Bass Rock. Would recommend it for everyone. One tiny niggle: if you want to get down to the shore, you have to go around from the actual site to Barns Ness area, a short walk or drive. A direct Coastal Footpath access might be a useful development for the future, at this new Dunbar site. Fabulous! Ali & Dave H

The staff were very friendly and we had a good welcome. We had a problem with the hook up which had tripped the breaker but this was soon fixed and whilst he was there, helped me with a gas bottle leak. The site is immaculately kept and the pitches are on different levels. If I were looking for a criticism, they could use another shower block when busy. We had a very restful break. thanks

Our first visit to Dunbar, site is immaculate with the most amazing view out to Bass rock and beyond..didn't want to leave! Amazingly warm welcome from the site managers and assistants Gary and Traci who go above and beyond to make your stay at Dunbar enjoyable! Site is fairly new, toilets blocks spacious, warm and clean and planted areas well kept with roomy pitches. A lovely site for walks especially down to the lighthouse at Barns Ness and big Asda close by. We hope to go back very soon!

Lovely site and very friendly and helpful staff. It was our first visit and would definitely consider coming back. The tent site was lovely with great views and masses of space. Given that we had young children a playground area would have been an addded bonus but there was lots of space to play games and run around and we just generally had an excellent time. A good base to use to travel into Edinburgh for a day trip by train without the hassle of driving and parking.

What a wonderful site. We stayed for 4 nights, and wish it could have been longer. The site managers are so friendly (Not fake, but genuine you can tell), and the facilities immaculate. We asked, and were alowed to stay a bit longer when leaving, nothing was a problem when we spoke to the staff. I read some of the reviews before our stay complaining about the toilets closing for cleaning between 10.30 and 12 however there is a toilet available at all times, and I have Crohns disease but I was never inconvenienced by this at all. The payoff is immaculate toilets, and plentiful clean showers. As its not a massive site the showers were always available, no queues=heaven!
The views of the sea from all aspects of this site are truly stunning. No matter what pitch, there is always a view. The white sands at the beach are also amazing, and yes it may be a 10 min walk from the site, but you can drive your car right down onto the dunes.
Now we had our three dogs on holiday, and had a pitch right at the dog area which suited us to a tee. Again, it wasnt a hassle keeping them on a lead at all times, as you can let them off for a good run at the beach, but remember to poo pick. We always do, but not everyone does, and what a stunning beach to ruin with dog poo.
Would recommend this site to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday, in a well run, friendly site with fab views.

My wife and I are mature tent campers and often travelled from Lanarkshire at week-ends and during other short breaks from work to the camp site at Barns Ness. We went to the new Dunbar site the first year after it was opened and have had no inclination to go back since. Why? Because: (1) We lost immediate access to the coast line for a quick saunter down to the beach, and to walk into Dunbar by the coast, one now has to walk some distance east and then back west. (2) Much of the site is exposed to the winds (and now it seems flooding!) which is not attractive to tenters. (3) Barns Ness had a fantastic, hassle free dog walking area. (4) The pitching fees also rocketed because the site was declared a 'five star'. Not in our view. The positives which others have found about the site do exist, but overall the old Barns Ness site was superior and greatly missed. As I said, it is how many years since we have not gone back?

A very warm welcome from the extremely friendly, helpful and informative assistant managers. Maybe the "other" club could learn a few lessons from them? First impression of the site - spacious, clean with great views. Choose a hard standing as there had been a lot of rain and the ground (and some pitches) were quite wet. A short walk to toilets etc, which were always immaculately clean. A very quiet site, possibly because there were only around twenty vans on site, still early in the season. Handy for the town, but possibly just too far to walk. Will definitely return.

As a novice caravanner I couldn't have picked a better site. As all the reviews state the site managers Alan and Isabel with their assistants Gary and Tracy are really very friendly and helpful. I really hope that the club realise that this team are what gives credence to the slogan "The Friendly Club"
The site really doesn't have a bad view from a pitch at all, you can either have sea or sea and Dunbar town, so blissful either way. Have been here on 3 different occasions and on 3 different pitches, so depending on what your priorities are each has its own advantages. My first pitch was very handy for toilet block and okay for water, but wifi connection limited, next one much same but nearer water, these two both on hard standing then lastly went for higher up pitch with better wifi connection nearer dog walk but wee trek to showers and water, this was grass pitch which think will avoid especially as there had been lot of rain beforehand which made for wet underfoot in awning, so will opt more for hard standing. But nothing could spoil this site for me as it is so peaceful and convenient for access and sights and walks. Just smashing!

We have used this site twice as a stopover on our travels to Scotland. On our first visit we were pleasantly surprised by the area and decided to return. It has a beautiful beach and lovely coastal walks. The Site Managers on both occasions have been very relaxed (It makes a big difference when you arrive after traveling 200plus miles). The site is on a bay and we have done a different walk each time. (It blows the cobwebs off and revitalises us for our conntinuing journey the next day). It is a site where you could easily spend a few extra days.

This was my second visit to the Dunbar site this summer and I received another warm welcome from Sheila and Julian who recognised me from our initial visit. I was accompanied to a very appropriate pitch near other children for my little boy, who ran off to make new friends once chores were complete.
Later in the day we cycled to Barns Ness Lighthouse - well worth a visit.
We were wakened in the morning with the most stunning view of Dunbar and a beautiful sunrise. We went a lovely cycle to Dunbar for an ice-cream float and returned to comb the beach a short walk from the site.
The facilities on site are immaculate Sheila and Julian are friendly, helpful and endeavour to make your stay stress free and relaxing.

Great welcome to the site with Alan taking us to our pitch, advising how to park, and assisting with the uncoupling and positioning the van. Unprecedented service in our experience!
This site has excellent views from its tiered pitches, while there are superb walks on the almost empty beaches nearby. Cycling is good too with official cycle routes passing nearby and a network of quiet minor roads. The wardens loaned us a cycling map which was very helpful.
You can get to Edinburgh by train from Dunbar or drive closer in and take the park and ride.
The site's facilities were all that we needed, with plenty of clean loos and modern hot showers. TV/radio reception was good too. There is an ASDA supermarket nearby.
Any negatives - well, as others have noted, it can be a tad windswept and we did encounter an exceptionally heavy rain storm, but we will certainly be back. A lovely location with helpful friendly staff.

after going to this site for at least 5 times this year and several times last year we have enjoyed our stays however during the past few wet spells it has become obvious that the site is very badly laid out with multiple pitches constantly flooding ,when asked about the flooding i was told it was due to hard ground when in fact it is down to very poor drainage ,( land drainage is part of my profession) which for a new site is very bad advertisment whilst there i noticed that the site manager was more concerned about site disipline which in my own mind is good but not to the deteriment of flooded out campers. Then today without any warning the manager decided to implement dogs on leads in the bottom dog walk. one of the reasons we used Dunbar was that there was an area which allowed us to let our dogs have a supervised free run. Due to the new rules we had no option but to terminate our holiday as there was no way we were going to keep our dogs on a lead everytime they were walked, they don't have to endure this treatment when at home so why should their habits have to be changed. The reason we were given for this new rule was they had received a bad report about irresponsible dog owners not picking up after their dogs, however does the manager honestly think that these dog owners will pick up just because they are made to keep their dogs on a lead. This action spoiled a holiday for myself, wife and 2 grandchildren, do I think he will lose sleep over it no I don't but we will thank you so much I just hope that the other c&c managers remain pleasant and helpful and do not make judgment on the innocent.

The big downside of this site is the lack of access to the beach. You can see the sea but can't get to it unless you drive into Dunbar or take a long walk. I realise that this is not the fault of the camp site but due to the golf club refusing access across their land.
If you stay at this site, try to request a pitch on the upper field. The lower pitches are further from the toilet block, do not have as good a view of Bass Rock and tend to get flooded. I think that the whole site is prone to flooding though. The showers and toilets are fine and appear to be new. Staff are friendly and helpful. The eggs from the shop are good and you can pre order a newspaper.

We had booked a grass pitch with electric but as we were staying 9 nights the warden recommended a hardstanding, and we were so pleased he did; the view was terrific. A shame there is no direct route down to the sea but the site has no control over this. A visit to Bass rock from North Berwick is a must if you get there before the end of August. Site facilities spotless. Dog walk very good, unfortunately there are some dog owners who just refuse to clear up after their dog. Large site with great views of Bass rock. Arrived and greeted by friendly welcoming staff who directed us to our pitch. Large spacious pitch however, drainage was extremely poor and due to the volume of rain our awning had a swamp below. The neighbouring pitch had no problems with drainage. Our only real disappointment was the lack of a play park for our 8 year old, and the closure of the toilet block 10:30 till 12:00 for cleaning, yes the family room is available but this often had a queue. Be warned no direct access to the beach from park.

This was myself and partners first outing with our caravan. A great site to go to and the staff are very freindly. Alan advised us if we had any problems to give him a shout. And that we did and he was very helpful, and gave us good advice.
A great site ,very busy but did not feel like that. Toilets are spotless and plenty of them. Never a queue.
Would recommend this site

This was out first visit to Dunbar. We found the toilets and showers on the site to be very clean and of a very high standard.
The site itself is on three levels. We would recommend if you have a tent that you try and get a pitch on the lower level, as this can be a very windy site. When we arrived there was only two pitches left on the high level and we had a real problem pitching our tent due to the strong wind. I would go as far too say that the pitches on the upper level are just not suitable for tents.
The area itself roundabout is lovely with some nice places for families to vist and some nice fishing spots nearby.

Excellent location with good facilities. A 15 min walk, short bike ride or jump in the car and you on the beach.
Walk the John Muir Way into Dunbar and beyond onto cliff walk and then the massive open beach where swimming and surfing are popular.
Visit the harbour and spot the seals.
Take the regular train from Dunbar to Edinburgh, it takes only half hour and takes you direct to the city centre.
Fantastic sunsets.

This was our first trip with a recently purchased second hand caravan. The site staff were very helpful expecially when the awning blew down during the night !! The views are spectacular and the site very well cared for. Not far from Dunbar for shopping etc although we didnt venture far from the site. We had our dogs with us. The dog walking area was a delight. Thanks for a very enjoyable first of many outings.
