A few miles from the lake that shares its name, Windermere Club Site has many environmentally-friendly facilities to match its beautiful Cumbrian surroundings in this lovely area of walking country. You may see deer, song thrushes or rabbits by your pitch at this campsite, which is perfect for families.

Wow! What a lovely site. This was the first time we had been away in our caravan so didn't want to go to far as we just wanted to try everything out. This was the perfect site. It was very easy to get to, on the website and in the club book it says a narrow lane with no passed points on arrival, however this seems to be outdated as there were a few passing points. We had no issues with getting there and it was our first item towing.
We originally only booked for two nights, but rang up a few days earlier to book an extra night. We stayed three nights in total.
The welcome when we arrived was very nice, we paid £10 refundable deposit for the barrier fob and then we were shown to out pitch. We had a choice of three pitches which was nice.
We had no problems setting up electric and were soon up and running. Everyone on the site was so friendly. The toilets blocks were outstanding clean! I couldn't believe it, whatever time of day you went in there wasn't a mark in there. The only slight issue I had was the showers. I have no problems with the push button showers, I think they are a very effective way of saving money and not wasting water, however I would of liked to of been able to change the water temperature as I felt it was a little cold for an adults shower. I don't personally know if this is possible with the push button showers but it would be nice.
We didn't go in the pub as we had a dog with us, although I thought it was strange that's dogs weren't allowed in any part of the pub, lots of people takes dogs on holiday and this would bring more money in if dogs were allowed in, we would certainly of spent a night in there.
Other than that, it's a wonderful sight and we will defiantly return. Thankyou :)

What can I say, this was our first visit and it was fantastic, we are looking to go back and take the kids. just 10 mins drive from bowness so lots of oppourtunity to venture out but we sampled the food on site in the Whistling Pig and it was superb and good value for money. the draught beer was lovely (according to my fella). The people were lovely and very helpful. Toilets and showers cleaned every day and were spotless. Highly recommended

Spent 2 weeks Xmas/New Year.
Very friendly staff on site always happy to help with a smile, we couldn't ask for more.
The pub on site is a great asset meeting with like minded Caravaners, and a reasonable selection of beers at reasonable prices.
Will be back 2013.

SUITABLE FOR: Families
I have to agree with a few of the previous reviews, the 2012 staff are very friendly, apart from the bar (unless you are a regular) This site is unsuitable for families with small children, as quite a lot of traffic to and fro-ing from the bar and the toilet block as only one was open.

we stayed here 30th nov to 3rd december and had a lovely time, walked to staveley (taxi back!) really recomend the eagle and child pub, we would have liked to visit the onsite bar in the afternoon but it was only open from 6pm dont know if this is just over the winter period or not. the showers were fantastic loveley and warm and very clean. now for the moan, as most people remember last weekend was very cold and there was lots of ice and every path and road was like a skating rink, I visited the shower block sat morning 9 30am ish and it hadnt been gritted and basically it was downright dangerous especially as it was uphill. when we left the next day a couple of shovellfuls of grit were down thats all. as I said lovely site and we will return probably in summer when theres no ice!!
SUITABLE FOR: Peaceful break
The best site we have been on by far. Even the negative comments in the reviews were not really problems at all when compared with the massive plus points of the site : friendly staff, clean site, clean facilities, very good value - what's not to like !
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Active break,Peaceful break
Second visit to some friends and didn't enjoy it at all!!! Appears to have some regulars, who seemed to take over the bar area like they owned the place. Not a nice relaxing evening. Sites ok nothing special. Can think of better places to spend money.

As soon as we entered the lane leading to the site we knew we were going to enjoy our stay, woods attatched either side of the lane were easily accessible to walkers and/or dog walkers. We were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff who then accompanied us to our pitch.we were then given a verbal tour of the site and surrounding areas. The shower block/toilets were warm and very clean, and obviously tended to freequently throughout the day.The onsite pub served very nice and reasonably priced food. All in all a great couple of days and will definately stay again.
We picked the site because of the location and the age concession rate. It did not disappoint. The reviews are accurate. The site was very clean and the shower/toilet blocks are heated so it made the morning visit a pleasant one. There is a half mile long access road to the site with woods either side so ideal for dog walking. The bar and separate children's room are great with good bar meals and a good choice of beer. A large site but never appears overcrowded because of the layout.
This was our first ever campervan trip and we couldn't have found a better place. The staff were extremely helpful, and the facilities better than expected. The toilet/shower block was always clean and warm. There were plenty of level hardstanding pitches and the family area was separate. The Pub served very good food and beer. It is a bit of a walk to access public transport and the village of Staveley. Walking in the area is very good and of course you have easy access to the Lake District and much higher fells. Approx 10 min drive to Windermere and Bowness and 15 mins to Kendal.

Have stayed here twice and both times we've really enjoyed it. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. The facilities aren't the most modern but they are clean and tidy. Our only complaint would be the lack of respect for the 5mph speed limit on the site. On a site with young kids playing I find it amazing that some campers find it acceptable to drive at ridiculous speeds. During our stay I heard several people change gear twice. No car is capable of 5mph in 2nd gear let alone 3rd!! I think the wardens should instruct people on arrival to remain in 1st gear at all times when on the site. At one point I saw the site tractor speeding which doesn't set a very good example. Rant over. Still a great site.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Active break,Peaceful break,Younger couples
We booked here based on other reviews for our first ever camping trip. The site is lovely and clean and staff are very friendly. The shower blocks and all excellent. Finding it is easy to miss as the road off the main A590 is poorly signed. The site has a small pub (No Kids allowed), a small family room with TV, pool table, playground and shop / reception. The family room does food at a reasonable price and was good quality. Probably the worst part was where our pitch was, right next to the pub and family room. The site operates a no vehicle movement policy after 11pm, but vehicles outside the barrier do still come and go and make a lot of noise on the gravel road. The kids also run around well into the night. I had to ask them to be quiet at 10:30pm because my son couldn't sleep. They were playing hide and seek and chase around the area of our pitch. I think this needs addressing. The playground was ok but as it is made out of wood, very slippy. The pool table was old and not one of the the 8 cues had a tip on it, plus some of the kids and teens nearly took your head off with the cue's. Overall i would recommend this site and did enjoy our first trip, but think the site could do more.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples
This my favourite of all the club sites we have been on. We try to go at least once a year. The staff are wonderful. The site has a friendly feel all of its own and I can't wait to be there in September.
DATE STAYED: September 2011
Fantastic site. I was there for 4 days on my own with my dog, its great for walking and cycling.
My family joined me at the weekend.
great dog walks nearby, accross fileds to stavley for a pint and a stroll back, or down the lane and through the woods.
children were free to run around and play, but your so spaced out you never herd them or disturbed.
pub on site served exceptional food and drink at reasonable prices.
hot showers and never too far from the water point or disposal.
fantastic site, will be going back many times
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Active break,Peaceful break,Younger couples
Loved this site. Easy to get there from M6. Site was easy to manouvre around and the pitch was large which was a bonus when towing a big van. The site is quiet and peaceful surrounded by trees with small pub that produces excellent food. The 5 mile drive to Windermereis well worth it-such a lovely wee town. In fact the whole area is lovely with views to die for, so to speak. Plenty to do for energetic couples or families. Play park has limited equipment but is adequatefor younger kids. Site is very clean and staff warm and friendly. Definately on my return list.

I had a lovely stay with my 11 year old son. We stayed for 4 nights in
the week and all the staff were very helpful. Its a really clean and tidy site. It was very wet over night one night and I found it difficult to keep everything dry in the tent, but there were dryers in the laundry.
My only problem was that the washing up sinks to do my dishes were really too low and backbreaking.. No more complaints though and I'd go back to the site.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Peaceful break
One of the best small big sites I have stayed on. The staff are not at all officious as is the case with some other club sites I have stayed on but they keep the place immaculateand are always helpful. The on site bar may not suit everyone but the beers are excellent and very welcome as it is quite a walk to the nearest alternative in Staveley. (The beer hall at Hawkshead brewery in Staveley is worth a visit though). Plenty of wildlife on site, rabbits, Pheasants etc. Doesn't feel like it is as big a site as it is. Three toilet blocks with staggered cleaning times is helpful.
after being evaculated from keswick due to flooding it restored my faith in human nature Windermere stayed open late at night for us were warm welcoming and very very friendly toilets and showers spotlessly clean warm and bright Manager and staff brilliant (hope Keswick staff take note how to treat people). Flash flood whilst we were on windermere site but the wardens out in full force helping people moving caravans and checking everyone ok This should be the flagship of the c&c club and shows how a site should be run.

going again for the 4th time soon . great site and well placed for many activities.. stavely beer hall is just down the road and worth a few visits.
the staff are very helpfull and polite so cant wait

Very clean site, good facilities and friendly staff.
Our pitch had too much stone underneath grass, very hard to get tent pegs in, not good when trying to put tent up in the rain!
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Younger couples
we loved it but unfortunately we had the wrong pitch. in fairness the warden did offer us some other pitches but the one we picked unbeknown to us, was on the busiest junction of the site and we thought a little dangerous for our two yr old. not only that, we noticed the site speed limit was 5mls an hr, which i thought the wardens on the tractor regularly exceeded. im sure it sped past our van at around 10 to 15mls an hr, with children running all over the place (an accident waiting to happen). plus i didnt expect to be ticking off young children to be quiet at 11pm, being extremely noisy outside other peoples vans.its a great family site with friendly accommodating staff, very clean and tidy, but when we return i'll be pushing for a different safer pitch for our little one. we needed eyes in the backs of our heads!!! literally!!
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Active break
From the moment we arrived we were impressed with the cleanliness and friendly staff. Its a bigger site than we would normally stay on, but because its laid out so well it doesnt feel like a big site. Lots of families were on the site . Brilliant shower blocks and never had to wait for a shower despite the site being full.
Although the site is a few miles from Windermere it is well worth a visit, it's in a very beautiful area and the site itself is very well laid out. The Pub on site is a real bonus, the beer and food is very good. We will definitely visit again.
I've stayed at many sites over the years but this has been my favoutite so far... Everything was perfect from the friendly staff, to the location, to the cleanliness and especially the on-site bar! Was only there for the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend and wish I'd booked up for longer - will definitely come back soon.
The site appears tpo be geared more to caravans with only a small area put aside for tents. A large part of the tent area is intersected with a gravel path which is very noisey with people and vehicles returning if you have children to get to bed early. I would not reccomend this site for tents but would suggest that you look somewhere thats not more set up for the caravan users
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Groups,Active break,Younger couples
Well what to say site clean tidy and well kept, staff helpful and polite.
Close to all the lakes and Halkshead ferry crossing. dont follow sat nav for that one. Please take time to stop and take a stroll down the public footpath on the road as you head to the site. beautiful little stream/ brook well worth a visit, fresh water shrimps darting back and forth. Depending where you are on site the are some stunning views. We will be back.
This was my wife's first trip in our motorhome so i wanted it to be a good one. I don't think i could have picked a better site. Everything was perfect from the wardens showing us to our pitch to a great pint in the bar! The toilet and shower blocks were immaculate as was the rest of the site. Great time was had by all including our dog,Buster(very dog friendly site) Great walks just off campsite. Highly recommend a visit.
Very scenic and visually well maintained site. The sudden access from dual carriageway to potholed narrow country lane situated on a blind bend off the road needs to be addressed.
Stayed over Early May Bank holiday, the site was full.Booking in was a bit automated but many units were expected that day.
Top toilet block ran out of water completely on the saturday morning.Pump not working.
Good location for visiting lakes,Kendal.
When leaving site got into a very long queue of car/caravan vehicles waiting to hand in the automatic barrier widgets and receive the £10 deposit(everyone first hsd to clear the barrier then stop the other side and run to reception for refund). It was farcical.
Would recommend staying outside of Bank Holidays.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Active break,Peaceful break,Younger couples
went there for a long bank holiday weekend me and my wife, it was one of the best caravan sites that i have been on the staff are exceptional they are very frendly and help you with anything.i would definatly recomend this site and i will try and get a few more long weekends here.
Having visited all the Camping and Caravan club sites in the North of England I must say this is the nicest and best kept Club site I have stayed on. It also boasts an onsite Bar so deserves an extra Star!
DATE STAYED: April 2012
Just a big thank-you to wardens Jimmy and Kath Ellis who went that extra mile and lent us their satellite dish when we had no signal on our digital aerial. we had a lovely time and thanks again Kath and Trevor.
Great site and easy to get to. Quite close to Windermere and Kendal. It has a good bar that serves food on site and prices are reasonable. Facilities were great and clean. I would stay there again.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Peaceful break,Younger couples
There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing! Despite this Easter not being the sunniest or warmest, the staff and facilities at this site certainly made up for it. Nice flat pitch, perfect for us novice caravanners, easy hook up, shower block spotless, sluice very easy and clean. There is even a boot and dog cleaning area with boot brushes and a hose pipe for muddy dog!! Kate was a superstar walking from Reception to the other end of the site where we were in pouring down rain to give me my winnings from their Easter competition. Site is also close to Windermere. Great break, will definately go again. Thank you. xx
We stayed on this site over the Easter weekend and really enjoyed it even though it rained throughout. The site wardens were very friendly and helpful and the toilet and shower facilities were always kept clean and tidy. We particulary liked the pub/bar on site and ate there twice during our stay. The food was lovely and it was very handy not having to cook. Our only very slight criticism of the site was that some areas seemed a little overcrowded but our pitch was fine.
In nearby Staveley Wilf's cafe is worth a trip and Wheelbase cycle shop is good if you're into that sort of thing!
Overall a very nice site close to everything the Lakes has to offer.
I have now used this site for a number of years and believe that it should be used as a 'flagship' site to demonstrate to some other CCC sites just how a campsite should be run. This site truly demonstrates outstanding management and has always conveyed the real meaning of your logo "the friendly club". This site is higly commendable. Well done to all of the staff.
DATE STAYED: July 2011
Just got back from a week at this site, it is a lovely site, very peaceful. The site was kept clean as were the toilets and showers. We were lucky with the weather as it was sunny every day, rained a bit some nights but no problems with flooding. Nice places to walk close by through a small wood to a heath with excellent views. Great base site to go exploring by car around the Lakes. The only negative thing I can say is that you approach the entrance road suddenly off a dual carriageway which is tight and you have fast cars behind you. We would stay at this site again though.

This site is TOPS!
I visited this site autumn last year for 4 nights, enjoyed it so much I booked a week long stay this year. The site has a very nice balance of campers, tents, caravans, mobiles and static vans, making it a very friendly and jovial place. The onsite pub and restaurant is a gem, I was welcomed back as if I had only just left!
Cleanliness? 2nd to none - the staff work tirelessly to keep the site and facilities spick & span.
Planning my next trip to Windermere already.
This site is excellent for caravans or trailer tents. However, it is the Lake District and that means "RAIN". Because of the nature of the ground on site the tent pitches can rapidly form into ponds. The Club should consider disallowing tents from this particular site as the ground is not tent friendly. We unfortunately will not visit there again. Because of the thin soil, it's a losing battle for the staff to maintain the tent pitches.
DATE STAYED: August 2011
This is a fantastic site, small enough for peace with a great little bar/restaurant. We have 3 kids including 2 year old twins and the staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough, Rebooked for next year while we were there.
Been to the site a feww times now, but it appears to be getting tired and dated and ready for a refurb. There seems to be a major problem with flooding which when you are camping on the bottom field you cannot get to the toilet block as only one is open now. They cannot seem to be able to cope with emptying the bins, and on arrival on site, it isn't very nice to see a mountain of rubbish at all the bin compounds, where you also go and get your water.
MEMBER FOUND TOWING: Difficult
We arrived on the monday night, and as I am disabled, had asked to be near the disabled facilities upon booking. This had not been relayed to the site, however the wardens did their best to put us as near as they could, even though I had to use my car to go to the toilets.Woke up tues,to the site mini tractors, towing caravans off pitches, that had flooded in the overnight rain, we found ourselves surrounded by water, but the wardens made sure every body was O K. and worked very hard for the next two days, pumping water off site whilst still attending to the needs of people, who had stayed on site. Thanks to the hard work of the wardens and staff, the holiday was still enjoyable, although it continued to rain all week. Will definitely be going back to this site, in better weather.
We stayed at this wonderful site for 2 nights last week during the awful rain and wind the Lake District was experiencing and I would just like to say a big thank you to all the staff and their constant hard work in trying to accomodate and help everyone in the conditions that were being experienced. The campsite is one of our favourites, having stayed before last October,so to see practically a river running throughout the fields was quite sad really. We managed to do some good walks with the dog and I would just like to recommend the Watermill pub nearby as a dog friendy venue for walkers and non-walkers too with some excellent food on the menu aswell. This site is perfectly situated for either Kendal or Windermere which can be accessed by bus (555) or for a bit more of a walk the train station at Stavely or Burneside. We hope to return next year minus the rain though!! Well done team we thoroughly enjoyed our stay once again :)
Lovely approach to the campsite. Very welcoming and staff enjoy their work. On the whole a very nice site. Not really geared up for families as there was no field for ball games and the play area was in an unsuitable location. When it was quiet we were told that we could play outside our tent, and break the 'no ball game' rule, although when it was busy there was simply no room. We were quite a walk from the nearest toilet block, although we had a lovely pitch. If the play area was improved we would go back.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Active break,Peaceful break
Just got back from a week at the site (including August Bank Holiday)
Welcome was good and friendly, site is very large ! Had maximum size tent and had read reviews about being strict on space. Got asked to move windbreak to fit another unit adjacent (6m firebreak from CandCC regs apparently)bloke was ok about it. moved it in.. no problem. One thing you do need are good pegs ! there is only about 3inches of soil and the rest is rock. Facilities are excellent, shop is funtional and the bar sells a nice pint of Stella.Staff were friendly and helpful. Went out walking everyday and had glorious weather, although it rained everyday onsite ??
Parking was limited and expensive throughout Lakes (parking attendants are very keen) A beautiful part of the world.. has to been seen to be appreciated !
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Active break
This was stop 3 of our 7 site stop Roadtrip. WE are happy to say one of the best.
The site is very nice & clean with very helpful staff. Our pitch was easy to get to. The over guests were all friendly and our 2 Lads made lots of friends. WE only stayed 2 nights but enquired if we could stop there on our return south from Scotland and the staff said they would find room. The Showers/Toilets etc were all very clean and working. The play area was of good size and the boys enjoyed playing there. It was also a very safe site for them to use their bikes etc.
On a small down side, the club house/ family room felt dated and a pity no one thought of collect the glasses from outside and standing the umbrellas up(no change the 2 days). We did eat there and the food was very good but the service needed to be a bit better (the lad forgot some our food. The Bar area was ok but needed a member of staff there a bit more as most of the times we had to wait to be served. (Something to do with cheesy chips).
But overall a very good site and would go back.
Upon arrival we were greeted by 2 very welcoming ladies and the site looked very clean and well kept we were shown to our pitch in the family area which was a grass pitch however whilst pitching tent found ground to be very rocky under the grass making it difficult to peg properly the first night it rained all night and when we awoke in morning the ground was very wet due to extremely poor drainage, this did not dry out properly for the rest of our stay. The childrens play area and family room etc are no-where near the family camping area added to this there was signs stating no ball games this week which meant we had to spend a lot of time off site to keep the children entertained. the day before we where due to depart a member of staff demanded that we remove our wind break this wouldn't have been a problem but he was really rude in the manner that he asked us therefore we shall not be returning or reccomending this club site to anyone.
lovely site nice friendly staff and very clean very helpfull at all time would recoment site to any family as its a nice quiet break if you get the weather as when we stayed we had quiet a bit of rain but can go places to get away the only thing is that you will need to take cash as the shop dosent take cards and it dosent state on the web site about the £10 pound deposit for the barrier phobe
Stayed here for four days. Excellent facilities, very clean heated shower/toilet block. Well stocked shop, and very friendly staff. Site is well layed out with flat level pitches for tents. Recommended.
Hi, I recently had a visit for a week to this site in July with my wife and daughter and her boyfriend, it is a beautiful site, lovely views. facilities are very clean. We arrived on the Monday my daughter on the wed, I asked if it was ok for my daughter to pitch her tent next to ours, yes that's no problem we were told. Everyday day campers were brought to camp in this space even though it was a big field. Ok it was a different member of staff every time but dont they talk to each other. We were given a pitch next to a gate that said No Access, I asked what it was and was told no body will use this gate, Oh so wrong everybody used it, a little further up was a dog walk, if you walk up the hill it come down to our tent, 50 people a day at least were walking through our space. The staff were round everyday at least 10 times a day to check all spaces were correct and nobody was breaking any rules, our windbreaker was 1 step to far towards the tent near us, but that will be ok, that my daughters tent, oh no it had to be moved, they were VERY strict on spaces. Friday came and we were due to leave the site on the Sat, so we went out for the day to Windermere, when we came back we were so shocked the site was packed with all weekend holiday campers. Oh gone was the correct spaces between tents and the rule tent car tent car, they were packed like sardines, everywere and anywere as long as they turned no-one away. very disapointed, could not believe it. We had a lovely break but the staff really spoilt it for us. Ok you have to respect the rules, but when more than your jobsworth staff is your main concern, when really you should be enjoying your holiday. And then they all break their own rules at weekends, It's all about the money.
Fantastic introduction to camping. Very welcoming and helpful. Fantastic facilities. Wish we'd have stayed longer. Will certainly stay again soon.
First time camping and what a great experience.Staff were helpful and friendly and the facilties were good and clean. Will visit the site again and likely stay a little longer.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples
The reason I'm writing this review is to let people know with young children that this site is not very good.
1)The play area/park is not suitable for young children,it is out of the way from the family field and has very steep steps and slopes.
2)The pub TV room, Games room, takeaway, and restaurant are all in the same building which doesn't open until 6pm every day, so if it's raining or you want a lunch time snack forget it.
3)The toilets and showers are clean but the reason I gave them a low mark is because the only field the children could really run around in was full of dog mess, my son came back to the tent many times with muck on his shoes.
This was our very first outing with our motorhome but the welcome we received and assistance on site made everything stress free and simple. The staff couldn't have been more helpful even though it was an extremely busy weekend. It was lovely to be greeted by lots of smiles at reception! All the facilities were first class. Our first trip to a Camping & Caravanning Club Site was excellent - your other sites now have a lot to live up to!
Windermere was our first Club Site since joing in July.
We found checking in and finding out pitch really easy - the site was full and we were the second last to arrive. Thinking this would mean we'd have the worst pitch on site, we couldn't have been more wrong! Having walked around the site I don't think there IS a bad pitch! It was lovely. Flat, lots of trees and bushes to break up the different areas. A really attractive site. We were accompanied to our pitch, told which way to pitch our tent and shown exactly where the toilet block and dishwashing facilities were. Both of which were immaculately clean.
My only gripe (and it wouldn't stop me going back) is that I wish there was a dog-free area. We have a dog (but he didn't accompany us) and I found some caravaners to be quite selfish allowing their dogs to bark very early morning and late at night (6.30am!) without stopping them. Owners fault I know but in a tent the noise is so much more difficult to ignore. :)
So, the site was great. Weather awful for the entire 6 days we were there but I wish I had a £1 for every time we heard "you don't get lakes by having sunshine"... even if it is true! :)
really good site with fantastic amenities, although a large site it doesn't feel like it, nice little pub with food available to eat in or take out,we have stayed there on numerous occasions with a tent trailer tent and caravan,it is so easy to get to just a few mins off the M6,ideal base for exploring the central lakes, going again end of July.
DATE STAYED: April 2011
Great campsite, spend 2 1/2 weeks(27/6- 14/7),clean toilets/douche. Nice place for walks. A big caravan was not a problem.
May be next year a week of two.
Greeting from Holland
Lovely campsite and very nicely landscaped, with everything kept very neat a tidy. Even though it is quite large the layout of the site made it feel nice and cosy and quiet. Our only gripe was the miserable woman that 'greeted' us on arrival - a million miles away from the friendly people at most other club sites. There was no welcome or explanation of the site facilities or layout - just 'name' 'x amount to pay' and 'sit in your car and someone will show you to your pitch' which we waited 10 mins for. It was a bad first impression. Another little niggle was no dogs aloud in the bar area!! so we went down the road to the watermill for a drink where dogs were welcome with a biscuit and bowl of water.
just got back from a great break at windermere , everything was top class except we had no tv signal, it never spoilt our stay
Worst club site we have visited in 14 years of membership. The water and bin area was full of smelly plastic bags every day,the toilet cisterns took so long to fill there not getting flushed.
The parent and toddler room was closed with a sign on the door saying closed for the winter (in whit week). The barrier key system creates a problem when leaving towing a caravan as you have to go though the barrier park and then go to the office to get your £10 back which can take some time when its busy.
DATE STAYED: June 2011
Lovely site, very quite and relaxing. Staff were very friendly and even moved our caravan on to the pitch for us. Toilet/show block was very clean and showers were good and hot. We will be returning to the site again.
What a fantastic site! The staff were very friendly and helpful, they kept the site immaculate. There is an abundance of wildlife which happily wander around the pitches which are very well laid out. The facilities were excellent, the toilet and shower block were spotlessly clean with fresh flowers by the sinks - nice touch. The bar was very cosy (and child free!)whilst the family room was adequate. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were generous, we can thoroughly recommend the sirloin and gammon steaks. The site is close to both Windermere and Kendal, it is the ideal base for touring the Lake District and Yorkshire Moors. We can definately recommend it.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Peaceful break
The site was nice and staff generally friendly and helpful. However it was very difficult to get satellite Tv, and no normal TV.
One member of staff could do with learning that rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men. Because of that person and the lack of TV would not go there again or recommend it to a friend
DATE STAYED: May 2011
Just arrived back from spending a weekend there. Site was very clean, staff helpful and facilities were brilliant. Although our pitch was located near families with young children which ment that there was alot of noise at times, which was not consistant with our quiet weekend.
on a very positive note we would probably book the site again but would request a more quieter spot. Which the site is large so i am sure there would be.
Fantastic site, second time we have been and as soon as we got home we have booked again.
Cant recommend this site enough.
Im not sure on how good it is for families as its just me and the handbreak go :)
The site is clean, quiet and very well run.
All of the staff are friendly and the onsite pub serves excellent food...and the beer is pretty damn good too ;).
Look forward to spending more time here.

Had a great week children loved every minute peaple very friendly site very clean was not a member but joined after a few days will be returning in the near future like to thank all the staff for a fab weeks holiday better than being abroad, once again thanks.
This is the 1st time we have been camping,we had a really good time the site was lovely and we will definitely be returning. They are so friendly and nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff.
Visited site with other friends for a long weekend over whit. On arrival to the site it was down a long narrow lane with some passing places could be a bit tricky with a caravan. When checked in we was shown to our pitch our's was a grass pitch, we had to unhitch our caravan so that a chap with a noisy little tractor could put the van exactly where they wanted it, as there are no marked out pitches on the grass. In our family we have two boys on getting out of the car they got a football and were told sharply there was no ball games allowed this week, the children were disapointed, this included all ball game so not a good start. Our friends were told by two diffent members of staff how to pitch there tent, we were later visited by two more staff members and were told the tent was too big and in the wrong place, and he was in his right to ask them to leave, but what do you do when you has put the correct size on booking. There must have been a lot of rain before we arrived as the grass was flooded in parts and more rain over night did'nt help. We found that the site is not suitable for children over 10yrs on busy times as no were for them to play ball games but have a small park for younger children, so will not be visiting site again.
This was our first visit to a club site. We found the site much bigger than we expected and with this we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the park. There is a small playground but did'nt find anywhere to play ball games as the staff wont allow you to play ball games near the tents. Toilets and showers are spotless with good dishwashing areas to go with them. We found other guests to be friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will be visiting again, loved it.
Lovely site with a 'village' pub next to reception that served very good food at very good prices. Would recommend it to all who use this site. I would rate this as a five star site but have two observations. One for the CCC and one for the site. When I arrived I reversed my van onto my pitch as I normally do. However, from then on and until 11 o'clock at night the site insisted on towing all caravans on to their pitch with a very noisy tractor. I am no sure of the logic regarding this as it seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to get the vans as they wanted them along with the continued noise. Observation number two for the CCC is that they need to rate sites that claim to have WiFi. Maybe a five star system would work. We always book sites that indicate they have WiFi like this one. However, I was unable to get any signal and feel my annual WiFi subscription may not have been worth it. That said I will be going back as it really is a nice site with friendly staff.

We have stayed twice at this site and can not fault it at all we visit the Lake District every year for a walking holiday and we have found the location ideal Lovely hot showers and every where very clean
DATE STAYED: June 2010
Having visited the site for the first time,we were pleasantly surprised by the location and size of the pitch that we were allocated. The facilities were lovely, clean and well maintained. Windermere was only a 15min drive from the campsite plently of walks are located in nearby Ambleside approx 30min from site, would definatley be visiting again soon
Fabulous site. Would definitely go again. Friendly, helpful staff. Good shop supply and pub/restaurant on site is great with wonderful scenery and walk/cycle routes. Secluded within wood but Windermere within easy reach with plenty to do for all. Grandchildren loved the steam boat and train rides. The visit to the Aquarian was really enjoyable and the staff so informative and helpful with quiz sheet and riddle to solve as you went round.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Active break,Younger couples
booked this site 4 months in advance, when we arrived we was put on a so called pitch,no number on it, i would class it as an over flow pitch, opposite site shop, had no privacy at all, cars and vans passing all day, wardens had 2 tractors showing vans to pitches which were very noisy and parked next to are pitch, any car that came to site shop turned around on are so called pitch,no near by water or elsan block everthink a good hike away sorry i would not recommed this site at all.to top it all off no signal on sky dish or tele ariel, very bad easter 4 days
Our young family spent 10 days at the Windermere site. The Facilities were excellent and the staff were extremely helpful. The access road to the site is narrow but does have some passing points (it was better than I had anticipated) The site is very smart and well kept by the staff who are always busy. The pitch sizes are ok but the space for manoevering the caravan onto the pitch was tight. However the staff are extremely helpful and helped us get our van onto the pitch. There were lots of Pheasants and rabbits roamimg the site and we had a wonderful tme.Thank you
Excellent site. This is my fourth C&CC site and as good as the others. The facilities very good and very clean. There didn't seem to be any queues for the showers and the water was lovely and hot in the blocks whenever I visited. Plenty of space to wash up too.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar is for adults only, but there is a games room next door (one pool table) where families can relax and have a meal. I didn't have a meal, but the food comming out of the kitchen looked good and most people appeared to clear their plates. Prices for food were similar to nearby pubs. I'm a bit of a Real Ale fan and it was good to have the chance to try three different pints from the Thwaites brewery over a weekend. All were excellent.
I'd certainly use this site again for another trip to the Lake District.
Having arrived home from an a long weekend staying at the Windermere site, I feel that I need to write to recommend it as a definite place to stay. The facilities are all kept lovely and clean, and the staff are all extremely friendly.
We stayed in a tent with electric hookup, 2 adults and 2 kids under the age of 10. The children have had a great time mixing with other families around and the areas are all kept clean and tidy. There was even an Easter Egg hunt whilst we were there which all of the children loved.
I would recommend this as a great place to stay as a base for exploring the Lake District.
Excellent facilities, very friendly and helpful staff who helped us move our awning to another pitch when we got flooded out due to torrential rain. They even towed our van as well when it refused to start. Would definately use again.
My wife and I have just returned from this site. On arrival we found the staff very friendly and welcoming.
We were shown to our pitch and helped to position the caravan.
We had booked a grass pitch but were asked if we would take a hard standing as the ground was still soft and were trying to preserve the grass. We accepted the hard standing and found it very good. The Shower block was immaculate and warm, with plenty of hot water.
Pot washing is very good also.
There is a bar on the site, serving food. We had the Serloin Steak which was excellent and reasonably priced.
All in all I cannot fault this site or its Staff.
DATE STAYED: March 2011
I have stayed at this site twice now and intend to be there again in 2011. I was given wonderful help getting onto my pitch, even in the snow. The staff could not have been more helpfull. If you have an O2 mobile phone it won't work very well, although T-Mobile/Orange works well there. I didn't have any problems with the TV on either Freeview or FreeSat. The small road down needs a little care but I got my 31 foot RV towing a car up and down it okay. It's one of the best sites I've been on. Keep up the good work folks.
DATE STAYED: January 2011
We booked this site on the day as we were touring, the site managers made us feel welcome and its a lovely site with good facilities. Only disadvantage is the road leading to the site had many pot holes. Would recommend to a friend.
DATE STAYED: March 2010
We have been members of the camping and caravanning club for 6 years and keep coming back to this site. Large site with good access. Only a short drive to Windermere or Kendal. There are a lot of nice walks direct from the campsite, the walk to Staveley takes about 2hrs over the fields and a lovely place for a cup of tea/meal at the end. Supermarket, small shopping centre, wine shop, brewery, and a cycle shop. Staveley is a nice little town. There is a pub/restaurant with a family room + take away if you don't feel like cooking. There is a small shop where you can get newspapers and a selection of groceries. Staff very friendly and helpful every time we go we find something new to do. Also dog friendly but please do remember to clean up after you pet. We can recommend this site 100%.
We are new to camper vaning! first time we have used the van, loved the camp very quite facilities excellent and very clean. We only stayed the one night but hope to visit again very soon. We went for a nice walk and hope to do many more. The staff very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
We were very suited with this site. Warm welcome at reception and showed to our pitch which was in a nice location. We needed rock pegs so go prepared.
The Warden was very precise over the spacing and how much room you were allowed to consume. He came back to check on our canopy and windbreak location and let it be as the site was pretty quiet. He explained his reasons which were fair so can’t complain but would bear it in mind if booking again in peak season.
The site was very clean and tidy, nice play area and all very scenic. Shop sells essentials but that’s about it. Pub on site is more of a room with pub style furniture. We were happy with it but it’s just not very big and we sometimes struggled to get a seat. There’s a more family friendly room attached to it with pool table etc. Children weren’t allowed in the actual bar area. The toilet/ shower blocks and wash up facilities were always clean and there’s plenty to go round so can’t find any complaints. We had to pay a refundable deposit (£10) for a key fob which operates the barrier system at the entrance. It locks down at 11pm at which time you have to leave your vehicle in the overnight parking area. A nice safety touch.
The site was further from Windermere itself than we expected (about 5 miles) but only a short drive away and we were happy with that. We love Ambleside and spent a day there and we also had a day walking round Bowness, all within short distance.
The site itself is by a busy A Road so no real walks from the site or anything in walking distance so be prepared for a drive out. There’s a nice discount warehouse down the road selling outdoor gear although they didn’t seem to be discount prices but very nice store. There’s also a garage just down the road which is convenient. There’s a Spar shop in nearby Staveley, that’s probably the closest supermarket.
We very much enjoyed our stay and can recommend to others. We will definitely be returning.

New to caravanning we chose to stay at this site, with our two children and the dog. We found the site to be very well maintained and the children played all day with friends that they made. We didn't really use the pub but we did use the takeaway which was fine for a one off. We found a great little pub nearby that did fantastic meals. The site is pretty quiet and we felt that the children were safe. We loved this site and found it ideal for what we wanted, which was a relaxing holiday. We also found the site ideally suited for exploring the rest of the lakes. Access to the site itself wasn't great, especially for us who are completely new to towing and the dreaded reversing. We will be using this site again though.
DATE STAYED: August 2010
The second time we visited this site and equally as good as the first time. Site staff are extremely helpful and work hard to keep this very busy site clean and tidy. The only downside, is the prices at the restaurant. The food was lovely, but on reflection, we felt slightly ripped off!
