Very scenic and visually well maintained site. The sudden access from dual carriageway to potholed narrow country lane situated on a blind bend off the road needs to be addressed.
Stayed over Early May Bank holiday, the site was full.Booking in was a bit automated but many units were expected that day.
Top toilet block ran out of water completely on the saturday morning.Pump not working.
Good location for visiting lakes,Kendal.
When leaving site got into a very long queue of car/caravan vehicles waiting to hand in the automatic barrier widgets and receive the £10 deposit(everyone first hsd to clear the barrier then stop the other side and run to reception for refund). It was farcical.
Would recommend staying outside of Bank Holidays.

There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing! Despite this Easter not being the sunniest or warmest, the staff and facilities at this site certainly made up for it. Nice flat pitch, perfect for us novice caravanners, easy hook up, shower block spotless, sluice very easy and clean. There is even a boot and dog cleaning area with boot brushes and a hose pipe for muddy dog!! Kate was a superstar walking from Reception to the other end of the site where we were in pouring down rain to give me my winnings from their Easter competition. Site is also close to Windermere. Great break, will definately go again. Thank you. xx

We stayed on this site over the Easter weekend and really enjoyed it even though it rained throughout. The site wardens were very friendly and helpful and the toilet and shower facilities were always kept clean and tidy. We particulary liked the pub/bar on site and ate there twice during our stay. The food was lovely and it was very handy not having to cook. Our only very slight criticism of the site was that some areas seemed a little overcrowded but our pitch was fine.
In nearby Staveley Wilf's cafe is worth a trip and Wheelbase cycle shop is good if you're into that sort of thing!
Overall a very nice site close to everything the Lakes has to offer.

I have now used this site for a number of years and believe that it should be used as a 'flagship' site to demonstrate to some other CCC sites just how a campsite should be run. This site truly demonstrates outstanding management and has always conveyed the real meaning of your logo "the friendly club". This site is higly commendable. Well done to all of the staff.

Just got back from a week at this site, it is a lovely site, very peaceful. The site was kept clean as were the toilets and showers. We were lucky with the weather as it was sunny every day, rained a bit some nights but no problems with flooding. Nice places to walk close by through a small wood to a heath with excellent views. Great base site to go exploring by car around the Lakes. The only negative thing I can say is that you approach the entrance road suddenly off a dual carriageway which is tight and you have fast cars behind you. We would stay at this site again though.

This site is TOPS!
I visited this site autumn last year for 4 nights, enjoyed it so much I booked a week long stay this year. The site has a very nice balance of campers, tents, caravans, mobiles and static vans, making it a very friendly and jovial place. The onsite pub and restaurant is a gem, I was welcomed back as if I had only just left!
Cleanliness? 2nd to none - the staff work tirelessly to keep the site and facilities spick & span.
Planning my next trip to Windermere already.

This site is excellent for caravans or trailer tents. However, it is the Lake District and that means "RAIN". Because of the nature of the ground on site the tent pitches can rapidly form into ponds. The Club should consider disallowing tents from this particular site as the ground is not tent friendly. We unfortunately will not visit there again. Because of the thin soil, it's a losing battle for the staff to maintain the tent pitches.

Been to the site a feww times now, but it appears to be getting tired and dated and ready for a refurb. There seems to be a major problem with flooding which when you are camping on the bottom field you cannot get to the toilet block as only one is open now. They cannot seem to be able to cope with emptying the bins, and on arrival on site, it isn't very nice to see a mountain of rubbish at all the bin compounds, where you also go and get your water.

We arrived on the monday night, and as I am disabled, had asked to be near the disabled facilities upon booking. This had not been relayed to the site, however the wardens did their best to put us as near as they could, even though I had to use my car to go to the toilets.Woke up tues,to the site mini tractors, towing caravans off pitches, that had flooded in the overnight rain, we found ourselves surrounded by water, but the wardens made sure every body was O K. and worked very hard for the next two days, pumping water off site whilst still attending to the needs of people, who had stayed on site. Thanks to the hard work of the wardens and staff, the holiday was still enjoyable, although it continued to rain all week. Will definitely be going back to this site, in better weather.

We stayed at this wonderful site for 2 nights last week during the awful rain and wind the Lake District was experiencing and I would just like to say a big thank you to all the staff and their constant hard work in trying to accomodate and help everyone in the conditions that were being experienced. The campsite is one of our favourites, having stayed before last October,so to see practically a river running throughout the fields was quite sad really. We managed to do some good walks with the dog and I would just like to recommend the Watermill pub nearby as a dog friendy venue for walkers and non-walkers too with some excellent food on the menu aswell. This site is perfectly situated for either Kendal or Windermere which can be accessed by bus (555) or for a bit more of a walk the train station at Stavely or Burneside. We hope to return next year minus the rain though!! Well done team we thoroughly enjoyed our stay once again :)

Lovely approach to the campsite. Very welcoming and staff enjoy their work. On the whole a very nice site. Not really geared up for families as there was no field for ball games and the play area was in an unsuitable location. When it was quiet we were told that we could play outside our tent, and break the 'no ball game' rule, although when it was busy there was simply no room. We were quite a walk from the nearest toilet block, although we had a lovely pitch. If the play area was improved we would go back.

Just got back from a week at the site (including August Bank Holiday)
Welcome was good and friendly, site is very large ! Had maximum size tent and had read reviews about being strict on space. Got asked to move windbreak to fit another unit adjacent (6m firebreak from CandCC regs apparently)bloke was ok about it. moved it in.. no problem. One thing you do need are good pegs ! there is only about 3inches of soil and the rest is rock. Facilities are excellent, shop is funtional and the bar sells a nice pint of Stella.Staff were friendly and helpful. Went out walking everyday and had glorious weather, although it rained everyday onsite ??
Parking was limited and expensive throughout Lakes (parking attendants are very keen) A beautiful part of the world.. has to been seen to be appreciated !

This was stop 3 of our 7 site stop Roadtrip. WE are happy to say one of the best.
The site is very nice & clean with very helpful staff. Our pitch was easy to get to. The over guests were all friendly and our 2 Lads made lots of friends. WE only stayed 2 nights but enquired if we could stop there on our return south from Scotland and the staff said they would find room. The Showers/Toilets etc were all very clean and working. The play area was of good size and the boys enjoyed playing there. It was also a very safe site for them to use their bikes etc.
On a small down side, the club house/ family room felt dated and a pity no one thought of collect the glasses from outside and standing the umbrellas up(no change the 2 days). We did eat there and the food was very good but the service needed to be a bit better (the lad forgot some our food. The Bar area was ok but needed a member of staff there a bit more as most of the times we had to wait to be served. (Something to do with cheesy chips).
But overall a very good site and would go back.
Thank you

Upon arrival we were greeted by 2 very welcoming ladies and the site looked very clean and well kept we were shown to our pitch in the family area which was a grass pitch however whilst pitching tent found ground to be very rocky under the grass making it difficult to peg properly the first night it rained all night and when we awoke in morning the ground was very wet due to extremely poor drainage, this did not dry out properly for the rest of our stay. The childrens play area and family room etc are no-where near the family camping area added to this there was signs stating no ball games this week which meant we had to spend a lot of time off site to keep the children entertained. the day before we where due to depart a member of staff demanded that we remove our wind break this wouldn't have been a problem but he was really rude in the manner that he asked us therefore we shall not be returning or reccomending this club site to anyone.

Hi, I recently had a visit for a week to this site in July with my wife and daughter and her boyfriend, it is a beautiful site, lovely views. facilities are very clean. We arrived on the Monday my daughter on the wed, I asked if it was ok for my daughter to pitch her tent next to ours, yes that's no problem we were told. Everyday day campers were brought to camp in this space even though it was a big field. Ok it was a different member of staff every time but dont they talk to each other. We were given a pitch next to a gate that said No Access, I asked what it was and was told no body will use this gate, Oh so wrong everybody used it, a little further up was a dog walk, if you walk up the hill it come down to our tent, 50 people a day at least were walking through our space. The staff were round everyday at least 10 times a day to check all spaces were correct and nobody was breaking any rules, our windbreaker was 1 step to far towards the tent near us, but that will be ok, that my daughters tent, oh no it had to be moved, they were VERY strict on spaces. Friday came and we were due to leave the site on the Sat, so we went out for the day to Windermere, when we came back we were so shocked the site was packed with all weekend holiday campers. Oh gone was the correct spaces between tents and the rule tent car tent car, they were packed like sardines, everywere and anywere as long as they turned no-one away. very disapointed, could not believe it. We had a lovely break but the staff really spoilt it for us. Ok you have to respect the rules, but when more than your jobsworth staff is your main concern, when really you should be enjoying your holiday. And then they all break their own rules at weekends, It's all about the money.

The reason I'm writing this review is to let people know with young children that this site is not very good.
1)The play area/park is not suitable for young children,it is out of the way from the family field and has very steep steps and slopes.
2)The pub TV room, Games room, takeaway, and restaurant are all in the same building which doesn't open until 6pm every day, so if it's raining or you want a lunch time snack forget it.
3)The toilets and showers are clean but the reason I gave them a low mark is because the only field the children could really run around in was full of dog mess, my son came back to the tent many times with muck on his shoes.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful even though it was an extremely busy weekend. It was lovely to be greeted by lots of smiles at reception! All the facilities were first class. Windermere was our first Club Site since joing in July.
We found checking in and finding out pitch really easy - the site was full and we were the second last to arrive. Thinking this would mean we'd have the worst pitch on site, we couldn't have been more wrong! Having walked around the site I don't think there IS a bad pitch! It was lovely. Flat, lots of trees and bushes to break up the different areas. A really attractive site. We were accompanied to our pitch, told which way to pitch our tent and shown exactly where the toilet block and dishwashing facilities were. Both of which were immaculately clean.
My only gripe (and it wouldn't stop me going back) is that I wish there was a dog-free area. We have a dog (but he didn't accompany us) and I found some caravaners to be quite selfish allowing their dogs to bark very early morning and late at night (6.30am!) without stopping them. Owners fault I know but in a tent the noise is so much more difficult to ignore. :)
So, the site was great. Weather awful for the entire 6 days we were there but I wish I had a £1 for every time we heard "you don't get lakes by having sunshine"... even if it is true! :)

Lovely campsite and very nicely landscaped, with everything kept very neat a tidy. Even though it is quite large the layout of the site made it feel nice and cosy and quiet. Our only gripe was the miserable woman that 'greeted' us on arrival - a million miles away from the friendly people at most other club sites. There was no welcome or explanation of the site facilities or layout - just 'name' 'x amount to pay' and 'sit in your car and someone will show you to your pitch' which we waited 10 mins for. It was a bad first impression. Another little niggle was no dogs aloud in the bar area!! so we went down the road to the watermill for a drink where dogs were welcome with a biscuit and bowl of water.

Worst club site we have visited in 14 years of membership. The water and bin area was full of smelly plastic bags every day,the toilet cisterns took so long to fill there not getting flushed.
The parent and toddler room was closed with a sign on the door saying closed for the winter (in whit week). The barrier key system creates a problem when leaving towing a caravan as you have to go though the barrier park and then go to the office to get your £10 back which can take some time when its busy.

What a fantastic site! The staff were very friendly and helpful, they kept the site immaculate. There is an abundance of wildlife which happily wander around the pitches which are very well laid out. The facilities were excellent, the toilet and shower block were spotlessly clean with fresh flowers by the sinks - nice touch. The bar was very cosy (and child free!)whilst the family room was adequate. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were generous, we can thoroughly recommend the sirloin and gammon steaks. The site is close to both Windermere and Kendal, it is the ideal base for touring the Lake District and Yorkshire Moors. We can definately recommend it.

Visited site with other friends for a long weekend over whit. On arrival to the site it was down a long narrow lane with some passing places could be a bit tricky with a caravan. When checked in we was shown to our pitch our's was a grass pitch, we had to unhitch our caravan so that a chap with a noisy little tractor could put the van exactly where they wanted it, as there are no marked out pitches on the grass. In our family we have two boys on getting out of the car they got a football and were told sharply there was no ball games allowed this week, the children were disapointed, this included all ball game so not a good start. Our friends were told by two diffent members of staff how to pitch there tent, we were later visited by two more staff members and were told the tent was too big and in the wrong place, and he was in his right to ask them to leave, but what do you do when you has put the correct size on booking. There must have been a lot of rain before we arrived as the grass was flooded in parts and more rain over night did'nt help. We found that the site is not suitable for children over 10yrs on busy times as no were for them to play ball games but have a small park for younger children, so will not be visiting site again.

This was our first visit to a club site. We found the site much bigger than we expected and with this we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the park. There is a small playground but did'nt find anywhere to play ball games as the staff wont allow you to play ball games near the tents. Toilets and showers are spotless with good dishwashing areas to go with them. We found other guests to be friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will be visiting again, loved it.

Lovely site with a 'village' pub next to reception that served very good food at very good prices. Would recommend it to all who use this site. I would rate this as a five star site but have two observations. One for the CCC and one for the site. When I arrived I reversed my van onto my pitch as I normally do. However, from then on and until 11 o'clock at night the site insisted on towing all caravans on to their pitch with a very noisy tractor. I am no sure of the logic regarding this as it seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to get the vans as they wanted them along with the continued noise. Observation number two for the CCC is that they need to rate sites that claim to have WiFi. Maybe a five star system would work. We always book sites that indicate they have WiFi like this one. However, I was unable to get any signal and feel my annual WiFi subscription may not have been worth it. That said I will be going back as it really is a nice site with friendly staff.

Our young family spent 10 days at the Windermere site. The Facilities were excellent and the staff were extremely helpful. The access road to the site is narrow but does have some passing points (it was better than I had anticipated) The site is very smart and well kept by the staff who are always busy. The pitch sizes are ok but the space for manoevering the caravan onto the pitch was tight. However the staff are extremely helpful and helped us get our van onto the pitch. There were lots of Pheasants and rabbits roamimg the site and we had a wonderful tme.Thank you

Excellent site. This is my fourth C&CC site and as good as the others. The facilities very good and very clean. There didn't seem to be any queues for the showers and the water was lovely and hot in the blocks whenever I visited. Plenty of space to wash up too.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar is for adults only, but there is a games room next door (one pool table) where families can relax and have a meal. I didn't have a meal, but the food comming out of the kitchen looked good and most people appeared to clear their plates. Prices for food were similar to nearby pubs. I'm a bit of a Real Ale fan and it was good to have the chance to try three different pints from the Thwaites brewery over a weekend. All were excellent.
I'd certainly use this site again for another trip to the Lake District.

Having arrived home from an a long weekend staying at the Windermere site, I feel that I need to write to recommend it as a definite place to stay. The facilities are all kept lovely and clean, and the staff are all extremely friendly.
We stayed in a tent with electric hookup, 2 adults and 2 kids under the age of 10. The children have had a great time mixing with other families around and the areas are all kept clean and tidy. There was even an Easter Egg hunt whilst we were there which all of the children loved.
I would recommend this as a great place to stay as a base for exploring the Lake District.

Excellent facilities, very friendly and helpful staff who helped us move our awning to another pitch when we got flooded out due to torrential rain. They even towed our van as well when it refused to start. Would definately use again.

My wife and I have just returned from this site. On arrival we found the staff very friendly and welcoming.
We were shown to our pitch and helped to position the caravan.
We had booked a grass pitch but were asked if we would take a hard standing as the ground was still soft and were trying to preserve the grass. We accepted the hard standing and found it very good. The Shower block was immaculate and warm, with plenty of hot water.
Pot washing is very good also.
There is a bar on the site, serving food. We had the Serloin Steak which was excellent and reasonably priced.
All in all I cannot fault this site or its Staff.

I have stayed at this site twice now and intend to be there again in 2011. I was given wonderful help getting onto my pitch, even in the snow. The staff could not have been more helpfull. If you have an O2 mobile phone it won't work very well, although T-Mobile/Orange works well there. I didn't have any problems with the TV on either Freeview or FreeSat. The small road down needs a little care but I got my 31 foot RV towing a car up and down it okay. It's one of the best sites I've been on. Keep up the good work folks.

We booked this site on the day as we were touring, the site managers made us feel welcome and its a lovely site with good facilities. Only disadvantage is the road leading to the site had many pot holes. Would recommend to a friend.

We have been members of the camping and caravanning club for 6 years and keep coming back to this site. Large site with good access. Only a short drive to Windermere or Kendal. There are a lot of nice walks direct from the campsite, the walk to Staveley takes about 2hrs over the fields and a lovely place for a cup of tea/meal at the end. Supermarket, small shopping centre, wine shop, brewery, and a cycle shop. Staveley is a nice little town. There is a pub/restaurant with a family room + take away if you don't feel like cooking. There is a small shop where you can get newspapers and a selection of groceries. Staff very friendly and helpful every time we go we find something new to do. Also dog friendly but please do remember to clean up after you pet. We can recommend this site 100%.

We were very suited with this site. Warm welcome at reception and showed to our pitch which was in a nice location. We needed rock pegs so go prepared.
The Warden was very precise over the spacing and how much room you were allowed to consume. He came back to check on our canopy and windbreak location and let it be as the site was pretty quiet. He explained his reasons which were fair so can’t complain but would bear it in mind if booking again in peak season.
The site was very clean and tidy, nice play area and all very scenic. Shop sells essentials but that’s about it. Pub on site is more of a room with pub style furniture. We were happy with it but it’s just not very big and we sometimes struggled to get a seat. There’s a more family friendly room attached to it with pool table etc. Children weren’t allowed in the actual bar area. The toilet/ shower blocks and wash up facilities were always clean and there’s plenty to go round so can’t find any complaints. We had to pay a refundable deposit (£10) for a key fob which operates the barrier system at the entrance. It locks down at 11pm at which time you have to leave your vehicle in the overnight parking area. A nice safety touch.
The site was further from Windermere itself than we expected (about 5 miles) but only a short drive away and we were happy with that. We love Ambleside and spent a day there and we also had a day walking round Bowness, all within short distance.
The site itself is by a busy A Road so no real walks from the site or anything in walking distance so be prepared for a drive out. There’s a nice discount warehouse down the road selling outdoor gear although they didn’t seem to be discount prices but very nice store. There’s also a garage just down the road which is convenient. There’s a Spar shop in nearby Staveley, that’s probably the closest supermarket.
We very much enjoyed our stay and can recommend to others. We will definitely be returning.

New to caravanning we chose to stay at this site, with our two children and the dog. We found the site to be very well maintained and the children played all day with friends that they made. We didn't really use the pub but we did use the takeaway which was fine for a one off. We found a great little pub nearby that did fantastic meals. The site is pretty quiet and we felt that the children were safe. We loved this site and found it ideal for what we wanted, which was a relaxing holiday. We also found the site ideally suited for exploring the rest of the lakes. Access to the site itself wasn't great, especially for us who are completely new to towing and the dreaded reversing. We will be using this site again though.

The second time we visited this site and equally as good as the first time. Site staff are extremely helpful and work hard to keep this very busy site clean and tidy. The only downside, is the prices at the restaurant. The food was lovely, but on reflection, we felt slightly ripped off!
