Stayed her for the first time over the May bank holiday weekend. We were very impressed with the location, short walk into Keswick. We were sited by the lake which was nice but seemd to be directly under the flight path of the Canada Geese as they honked there way over the tent at 4am!! Checking in was an interesting experience, long queues and a system where you are checked in, allowed through the barrier in your vehicle and then taken onto your pitch one at a time so that was tedious and slow. The site is idyllic, very quiet, but the shower blocks although good, (hot free showers and a 20p a time haridryer) do need some updating. Would defiantely stay again if I can muster the energy to wait to check in. All in all I would recommend this to families and couples alike. Soemthing for everyone adn an ideal location for Keswick but also the hills around.

The site's location is perfect as it's only a short walk to the bustling centre of Keswick. On this basis I would recommend the site to anyone who puts location and convenience above all else.
However the toilet block facilities are poor, the individual cubicles are too small and the showers were frankly dirty. These need a thorough refurbishment to bring them up to modern standards, or better still knocking down and starting again.
Also the on site staff could do with some training on the new computer system, as other than the basic bookings this was a mystery to them. Also a few smiles wouldn't go amiss !

BEWARE - Booked this site online in January for 2 nights before the site opened for the season. Only 2 options available -grass or jumbo. No mention of hardstandings or electric hookups which I wanted and no definition of jumbo. When I checked in I was advised that hardstandings and hookups are only available if 3 or more nights are booked. There is no reference to this in the on-line info for the site.
Jumbo is just a bigger grass pitch with no facilities.
Strongly recommend you ring the site direct to book.

We have been going to this site for the past 8 years. Lovely views and position on the edge of the lake. 5 mins walk to Keswick for beer and food. Be aware that the site can and does flood frequently. We were a bit disappointed to find out that no alterations have been made. It was mentioned in the magazine/internet/call centre that new hardstandings were being done and the road to the site was being improved, but nothing has been done. The toilets and showers could do with modernising but they are always clean.

Website booking not recommended as not all pitches have electric hook up - best to phone for bookings. Site was nice enough on arrival, though only one toilet block was open (4 showers in each block) which was a little limited as campsite was so busy. Site is an excellent base for adventuring the local area, plenty country walks.
Advisable to have an extra long electric cable (just in case, though site do hire them out). We did find it a little crowded near the end of our stay, camper vans seemed to be wedged in between tourers and a little too close for comfort. Over all, a decent enough site, just a little too crowded for us.

This was our first camping trip with the club and can honestly say it was excellent. We received a warm welcome, were given good advice about the local area, and were shown around the site.
We enjoyed beautiful scenery and walks along the lake shore. Our dogs thought they were is heaven.

We stayed here for the first time in July 2011, although have stayed at the now defunct Derwentwater site in the past several times.
Great location and an easy walk to shops, pubs and visitor atractions. The whole of the Lake District is easily accessible from this site.
The toilets are, as said, not the greatest, but are spotlessly clean.
We have a dog and Keswick allows dogs in most pubs, but not indoors when eating(understandable),and in plenty of shops.
If you get the weather then this has to be one of the best sites in the UK. If it rains for days on end, then lack of things to do locally on rainy days might be a problem (Dog Owners especially).
Overall 4 out of 5

We love the area for the walking & closeness to the town and have been coming to this site for a number of years, but only for the reasons stated above, the actual site is not that good the site is usually boggy and in october half term when the site is full they close one of the two toilet blocks unbelievable also the facilities are in a poor state and as this is the flagship site it is not a good advert for modern day campsites, if this site was not in the position it is we would not return but full marks to the staff who are always friendly helpfull so come on with the huge amount of income generated fron this site lets have some decent facilities

We love Keswick as a town and area due to the walking available, and return every year. This site is very convenient and the wardens have always been extremely helpful and fiendly - can't fault them. Our only criticisms relate to the facilities and pitches. The facilities are very out-dated and are in much need of an upgrading - also there are not enough showers when the site is full even when both blocks are open. Also, due to the wetness of the site all caravan pitches should be hard-standing.

Had a great holiday the site was as usual clean quiet and well mananged, however considering that the camping and caravaning club motto is the friendly site I found this far from friendly by the attitude of some site staff who when was bid a good morning on our last day chose to scowl back at my wife rather than knowledge a social greeting. On the suject of the last day there seemed to be some confusion, we received a knock at our caravan door at 9,15 to be informed that we should have left the site the previous day this was discovered by our scowling friend, however when we went to pay for our extra night but it was not poosible to do so, as there had been payment already made on the site commputer, there for the mistake had been made with the numbers nights that had been alocated to us although we had orinally had paid for in full for all our stay.We did not receieve an apoligy from the staff member who had came to our van earler that morning. On the whole we were very diapointed by the way were treated by certain staff over the hoiday, and given us reserves about returning.

Great setting, ideal location, no need to use the car. Glad to see money is being spent on the site to repair roads and put in more hardstandings. The club must upgrade the facilities, they are clean but very dated. Some taps in the sinks need repair. We will return if we can get a booking.

Fabulous setting, possibly the best!
Facilities old but functional, warm and clean. Pleased to see plenty of coat hooks in the loos and showers - more modern installations could learn from this.
Despite there being a queue of people waiting to enter the site the warden helped to position the van on the pitch.
We were fortunate to get one of the prime pitches looking out over the lake. The view was great but the L shaped hard standing was too narrow to allow the van step and water container to rest on the tarmac, and we had to position them on the wet grass. This was at a lower level than the tarmac and meant that it was a bit dodgy stepping from the van to the step - particularly when there was frost about. Easily remedied Club, please do it!
No need to speak about the opportunities for fell walking and cycling, this is God's own country!
Will return, assuming that we can get a booking, superb!

We've been visiting Keswick for many years now. This site has not had any improvements made to it in all those years. We always go in October or February and is always full - even so there is only 4 showers for women and 4 for men. This is totally inadequate and they're desparate for an update ( maybe including a few family shower rooms ). The pitches and access roads are always water logged and need widening with more gravel. The road down to the site is in bad need of maintenance as there was only one light working when we were last there. Its also full of potholes. This site must make so much money as it is always full, some of the money needs to go into improving - if it wasn't for its close proximity to Keswick and it's stunning views and location we would find somewhere else to stay.

THIS WAS OUR SECOND VISIT TO THIS SITE.WE LOVE THE LOCATION AND THE WARDENS ARE VERY HELPFUL. OUR FIRST VISIT WAS THE WEEK BEFORE THE LAST BANK HOLIDAY, WE WERE MEETING FRIENDS WHO WERE CAMPING FOR THE WEEK. WE ARE FULLY AWARE OF THE WEATHER AND DRAINAGE PROBLEMS OF THE SITE,OUR FRIENDS PITCH WAS OK BUT OTHERS LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE CAMPED FOR A MUSIC FESTIVAL,WITH MUD AND AT TIMES WATER AROUND LIKE SMALL MOATS.IN SEPTEMBER WE ARRIVED ON THE THURSDAY ALL WAS FINE, IT HAD RAINED BUT OUR HARD STANDING WAS OK PITCH 127.
DURING THE WEEKEND A NOTICE APPEARED ONE OF THE TOILET BLOCKS WAS BEING SHUT,WHICH LEFT 4 SHOWERS FOR AROUND I SHOULD SAY 100 PITCHES STILL OPEN THATS 4 FOR MEN AND 4 FOR LADIES THE BLOCK WHICH WAS LEFT HAS MOULD ON THE CEILINGS AND THE SHOWERS ARE PREHISTORIC, ALSO LOTS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER MEMBERS.WE HAVE TOLD ALL OUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE SITE IT IS IN NEED OF
RESTORATION BUT THE LOCATION IS BEAUTIFULL. IT IS AN 10 MINUET WALK INTO KESWICK.

We have stayed on this site many times before, when we arrived this time the grass pitches had been flooded and ours was out of action, however the staff were wonderful and set us up with a pitch on the road where we could have electric hookup.
I agree the toilet blocks are tired but they are always immaculately clean the staff on this site work hard. It's an extreemly busy site and I'm not suprised the location is superb for Kewick town and walkers. One of the reasons we return here time after time is that Keswick is so dog friendly you can take your precious pooches into most pubs and shops. A wonderful site in a wonderful town.

I agree with the possitive comments already left here by so many members.
I wish however to comment on the tiredness and style of the shower blocks.
If 2011 has been one of the most successful years todate for attendences and membership numbers are increasing then more needs to be done to the Keswick Facilities. They are tired mouldy and run down. Maybe the success of the site and the attractiveness of Camping this year has placed undue strain on Keswick's shower blocks. If it has been in high demand this year then this would qualify my comment and concerns.
I suggest spending some of the Club's funds on upgrading the facilities.
The size of the shower heads isn't of a high standard and makes showering an uncomfortable experience.

The location of the site is superb within easy walking distance of the town centre, however the facilities left a lot to be desired. The gents loos and showers were filthy, the womens were reasonably clean but in need of an update. Only 1 of the pot washing sinks had a hot water tap that worked. After 2 nights of heavy rain we had to leave a night early as the site was waterlogged, investment is needed in drainage and new facilities, we feel this site is thriving due to the location only.

Had a lovely time at Keswick - it's hard to imagine a site anywhere in the world with better views. The staff were very friendly and polite. Our little boy loved the site - plenty of space to ride his bike, going to the lake to feed the ducks (and leaving a trail of duck food for them to follow him back to our caravan). The playground is nice and safe. We were at the far corner of the site where the two rivers merge (there is fencing all around so it's not too unsafe for little ones). Bit of a hike to the toilet block (from where we were - clocked it on my phone at 309 metres (sorry, it didn't give me the distance in old money)) and would benefit from a bit better lighting on the way. Toilet block was always clean and well maintained, the only thing that would be an improvement (and it's a little petty) would be a bit of Dettox Mould and Mildew spraying on the tiles in the showers. In all it's a wonderful site, amazing location, excellent staff and we'd not hesitate to visit again.

This was the first time we had ever been caravaning. We bought a 16 year old Fleetwood Colchester and it is gorgeous. Old but perfectly formed. Very friendly welcome. John caught on to the fact that we were new to it all as I told him that my husband had never ever reversed or manouvered a van before. He said he was going to invite everyone to bring their deckchairs to sit and watch. Joking aside, he was extremely helpful and gave my husband a mini lesson in how to position the van perfectly on the pitch. It was a little muddy on the site but that is hardly surprising considering the rain that had been falling. We had a view of Derwntwater which is outstandingly beautiful whatever the weather. The atmosphere on the site was lovely. All the children were obviously having a good deal of fun. Everyone was very considerate and friendly. The shower was housed in basic but clean facilities and was lovely and hot. Considering how busy the site was it was excellently maintained. We love our enderly little caravan and wish we had decided to do this many years ago. Would definately visit this camp site again

We inadvertently booked 9 nights on a Standard pitch, not realizing that Standard pitches don't include electricity (feel this could easily be rectified by changing the description?)Having said that the staff were brilliant and managed with some difficulty to sort us out without too many pitch moves. This is an extremely busy site so we were more than impressed by their efforts and they managed to make our break at Keswick its usual excellent experience. As a matter for head office the shower and toilet facilities are ready for modernisation although their cleanliness was not at fault.

Just returned from a week in a tent on this site. One adult and two teenage children - we all found it a great site. Amazing views, friendly and helpful people. Clean toilet/shower block, which could do with being updated but are by no means the worst we've seen. This site seems to have something for everyone. There is opportunity for boating on the lake, walking/climbing in the hills, or just sitting and soaking up the surrounding views. We had some heavy rain but even though we were sited close to the lake we didn't need to bale out! We're definately going back next year. Many thanks to the site staff.

We arrived at the beginning of our yearly 4 week stay to be warmly greeted by Andy who recognised us from our last visit. He showed us to our pitch, offering any assistance we needed and afterwards never passed without a friendly word of greeting. This certainly creates a good feel about the site. The location is perfect with hills, town and water all very accessible. As others have said the toilet facilities require attention with 1 shower in the gents unusable for 3 days with broken lock and a plug missing for 3 weeks. Also the number of toilets left unflushed is amazing. The wardens worked very hard to keep up the cleanliness and frequently cleaned out of regular cleaning times to improve facilities. As ever our stay was very pleasant and if the toilet and shower facilities were upgraded the site could be perfect. We hear Andy and Chris are moving this week to manage Culzean Castle and wish them both the very best of luck and hope to visit their site at some time. Other campers will appreciate their welcome and attention.

The 5 nights that we spent on the site were not to the clubs usual standard for the following reasons. (1)our small motorhome was pitched on the grass on a corner location. On one side was a caravan 14 ft away and off our corner another caravan 16ft away whose awning was 8 ft away, consequently we felt unsafe considering the club rule states a gap of 20ft for fire safety reasons.
On consulting a site manager I was offered a different location if one came available which I declined due to the upheaval involved. (2)With most of the 250 pitches being occupied the toilet/washing facilities are inadequate and out dated.(3)The weather was excellent but we had to sit inside due to the rowdy evening alchohol fueled parties that took place most evenings. Site wardens do not seem to patrol and stop such antisocial activities.

BUT, given the revenue that this very popular site must generate the facilities are very poor.
Some of the cash needs to be ploughed back into sone decent toilet and shower blocks . The current set up is like a 1950's army camp. Though the staff do keep them fairly clean.

We had a nice stay in our motorhome, no problems there but we could hardly believe the conditions for some of the tenters (our family included) in the large field the centre of which is used mainly for tents. The area is lower than the access roads that surround it and consequently in rain (and there was plenty of that) some tents stood in oozing mud and occupants were trudging through standing water to get in and out of their tents. We were embarassed to see it. This Club is a camping Club after all and should do much much more for tenters on this site. They were clearly regarded by the Club as second class citizens paying good money for frankly the poorest conditions around. Everyone knows it rains a lot here, hence the lakes. So, how come the Club is so ill prepared for it with respect to tenters? Ray & Ann

Beautiful, breathtaking site. Weather was great when we visited, so it was perfect for them to paddle while we sat beside the lake. The wardens were really friendly and attentive, especially Andrew who sited us. He was cheerful and helpful despite probably being one of the busiest weekends for them due to adjacent beer festival. The site is very well kept and although the toilets are quite dated, they were spotless. The only thing which I would comment on was the access. It is a busy site and we waited 3/4 hour in a queue to get on, and it was difficult to get on and off the site once you were settled due to people queing to get in, but really there is little they can do about that because there is just one road in and out, but I wouldn't let it spoil our fun. The town is five minutes away and Keswick is quite beautiful. Highly recommend this site and hope to get back very soon.

A large and busy site in a beautiful location. Good for walking, canoeing and sightseeing. The site was full and facilities too few and too far from most pitches. The staff were well organised and friendly, but I got the impression that they were flat out and under pressure. This site is always likely to be popular but the club needs to invest in the site, more facilities at far side of site, perhaps more staff at busy times, more hard surfaces in wet areas. A good site which could deteriorate fast if remedial action is not undertaken.

I can see why this site has such enthusiastic reviews. Stunning location right on the water. 5 mins walk into town. Cheap beer at the rugby club. Toilets and showers excellent. Management were clearly busy running this popular site, but didn't bother to read my additional remarks until the morning of the booking, making a lot of fuss about a pup tent that apparently could not be accommodated, though we booked more than 2 weeks in advance. Despite all that I would go back any time.

This is a huge site and would benefit from another toilet block. The site is right on the lake shore and great for kids and dogs. Downside is that when it rains Oh boy does it rain. When we were there the ducks were actually swimming on the grass - the water was inches deep and very very muddy. However, that's not something the wardens can do anything about. We probably prefer The Oval site next door - smaller and all hard standing pitches.

When it's wet the tent pitches are very poor and muddy. Our pitch was also very far from the toilet blocks which are both by the entrance. For such a large busy campsite the toilet blocks are very inadequate. Over the bank holiday weekend I queued over 30 minutes for a shower. On the plus side the location of the site can not be beaten. For the five days of our trip the vehicle never moved. The kids loved the site. Will definitely go again but would seriously think about cancelling if the weather was bad.

This is a really good site with stunning views, within easy walking distance of Keswick town centre and it's easy to get to. We've been for the last 3 years and we'll go again but it really is time that the Club spent some money on the facilities. There are 2 amenity blocks but both are next to the entrance so you have a long walk if you're at the other end of the site and they can be smelly. The amenity blocks are well overdue an upgrade and compare badly with those offered by the Caravan Club.

2nd visit to this site. Again really impressed by how clean and tidy it is kept. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Ground got very soggy in places but the staff managed to find good place for us to pitch our tent. Great location. Can't wait to visit again.

Wonderfully friendly welcome when we arrived. We were then shown a number of available pitches to choose from - all with great views of Derwentwater or the fells. Large pitches, although some people seemed unable to follow the (clear) instructions and parked their cars on the adjacent pitch instead! Two decent-sized toilet blocks meant there were rarely any queues for showers and although the facilities may have been old, they were absolutely spotless. Ten minutes walk into Keswick town centre with a fantastic choice of outdoor shops! Had a lovely meal in The Kings Arms - booking recommended. Superb walking/cycling from the site. We spent 5 nights here and would definitely return :-)

Very friendly accommodating staff. Town both child and dog friendly. Have been twice and returning again this year. Yes it's prone to flooding - but you just can't help that being right beside a lake! The staff give fair warning if you are in danger and do their up-most to help in any way. Can't recommend this site any higher.

Just back from our first, but not last, stay at this site. We were a family of 4 plus a dog. Found the site very friendly and well looked after. As others have said it's very close to Keswick centre and the supermarket Booths. Although the shop in reception has plenty of essentials if needed?
The views are beautiful, hard to beat. Our children loved boating on the lake and the dog enjoyed his walks.
The wardens seem to keep a good eye out. We had some noise from one group of men but they weren't too bad really. Plus were only there our first night.
Downside is the facilities being far from the island where we pitched. 2 blocks at the entrance seem a bit silly? It'd be great if they could put toilets at the very least at the other end from the entrance?
Other than that thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Weather was fantastic for April too :)

We keep coming back here for the peace & quite, the excellent walks, Keswick being withing easy walking distance & the excellent panorama from the site. The staff are Exemplary often working late into the evening to make the site spottless and inviting for all to enjoy. The only downside to this site is, as stated by many before me, that the drainage desparatly needs attention, even after one evening of light rain the site soon became waterlogged, also why are both toilet blocks vertually next to each other would't it be more practical for them to be spread over this large site

Just returned from a loveley 3 day break at the Keswick site. The site has wonderful views towards the lake and the surrounding fells. It's a 5 minute walk from Keswick centre so very close to shops, pubs and restaurants etc. The staff were very friendly & helpful on our arrival and throughout our stay. We stayed on a hardstanding pitch which was great and would recommend. We would also stay on the grass pitches as they are very level but could get quite wet if the weather is bad. Toilets and showers were spotless. Will definitely stay again.

Having stayed there several times in the past 12 years, we chose to stay at Keswick on rejoining the club this month. It has fantastic views, is very convienent for a stroll into Keswick or walk up the beautiful northern fells but when oh when will the toilet/shower block be replaced. The showers are cramped and dingy, the ceilings and walls have flaking paint and mould and worse, the water flow is barley adequate and the water drains very slowly. Stainless steel sinks and toilet cubicles from an army nissan hut also fail to impress. This must be one of the clubs busiest sites and deserves much better.

Stayed here 2009 and 2010. Both times there were flooding problems but, especially in 2010, the staff worked their socks off to look after everybody. We arrived back one evening (10.30pm) to fined our pitch flooded but the staff were there to help and moved us to a dry spot. Flooding is a known risk at this site but I cannot thank the wardens there enough for their diligence and support. And at the same time they coped with the usual chores keeping the place clean and tidy. Well done and thanks. I would recommend the site to anyone. Country setting but only a few minutes walk to the lovely town centre.

Wonderful views, we have been coming here for the past 7 years. You can leave the car, catch a boat or bus and walk to your hearts content. Keswick is great for shopping and food and now the shops and pubs are really dog friendly. It does occasionlly flood, we have only had our holiday cancelled once though. Could do with the drainage being sorted but what do you expect being right of the edge of the lake. Great beer festival at the beginning of June held on the Rugby pitch next door. Toilets and showers are clean but could do with updating. We are taking our friends and dogs here in June 2011 for their first trip and first hike up the mountains.

Just returned from a 4 day break. A friendly welcome was received at this campsite and John the warden showed us to our hard standing with awning pitch. Pitches are of a decent size with ample parking for car as well as awning space.
Facilities, maybe a little dated however always spotlessly clean (the women’s were anyway) and has the added bonus of a free standing baby bath but no family room which was a bit of a disappointment for us with a 15 month old.
Small play area in the middle with swings and a slide can be a little noisy but what are play areas for?
The views from this site are amazing, with the ebb of the Derwentwater one side and the wonderful fells on the other, either way your unit is facing it is a picture post card view. A 5 min walk into the town centre where you can find all your amenities’, including the unforgettable and infamous “Cow pie†at the George inn and Goulash at the Dog and Gun (1/3 potions recommended at both), Please note though, the pubs are not child friendly.
Walks are plentiful and easily started from the site itself highly recommended is the walk to the Nichol End Launch point on the Derwentwater approx. 2.5 steady level walk good for first timers, and children - £1.80pp for the boat back (under 5’s free).
Positives: views, ample pitch size Negatives: no family room. Cannot wait to return.

The wardens did their best to fit us in as part of the site was unusable due to the recent rain. Site in general was clean and tidy, though I did raise with one of the assistants the cleanliness of the disabled facilites. They were accesible by all users, and of a cramped capacity - this meant any grass/mud walked in was practically where you would be to have a shower. Beautiful lakeside site, and we also walked into the town of Keswick where we also enjoyed a visit to the Pencil Museum (which was a great little place to visit).

My husband and I stayed in July 2010, the weather was variable, but that's expected. Excellent location, especially for walking and Keswick town within walking distance for pubs/shops. My only critisism would be how busy the site was, vans / vehicles constantly coming and going and very little space in between vans / tents, but I expect this was due to time of year. Shower / toilet facilities clean and tidy, although a blocked drain in shower was an issue, but sorted promptly. Overall a lovely site, with helpful staff. We hope to visit again next year.

Motorhome waste is very difficult to use - in a corner, on a slope. Motorhomes with wastepipe midway along the van would need to manoeuvre the front wheel around the already open waste point. Long vans might not be able to use the point. There is a very loud noise in the ladies toilet block (from the ventilation system?).
The site is very convenient for the town, walking and boating.
