The camp site is right on Derwent Water and is extremely well located with shops, eating/drinking locations and local amenities, such as buses to many surrounding areas and a fantastic supermarket, in easy walking distance. Walking, hiking, biking and boating all within immediate vicinity. The views from the camp site are lovely. The managers and staff of the camp site are extremely helpful and friends

We are regular visitors to the site and have just booked up again for August. Weather in May had everything but we love the location. The improvements and new hard standings are welcomed and although its tight to get into with our 26ft van, the staff are more than happy to get you in with the tractor which takes 2 minutes. Looking forward to our next visit.

The site was excellent. All pitches looked level, and the staff friendly and helpful without exception.
This was our first 'real' motorhome holiday site in the UK (we have previously camped under canvas) and the standard was very high. Showers and toilets were great, the dishwashing and laundry facilities very good, and the motorhome service point was very easy to access.
Situated within 5 minutes walk of Keswick bus station, and local supermarket (and 10 minutes from the town centre shops ans restaurants), the site offers easy direct access to all local facilities.
We walked, cycled or caught the bus every day, and then enjoyed the spectacular views of Derwentwater and surrounding fells in the evenings and early mornings.
We can't wait to go back in 2014.

This is a large site and after coming from Skye and Glencoe clubsites it was clearly much busier and the pitches much closer together. Certainly the facilities are tired and dated but perfectly useable, although there don't seem to be enough for the number of pitches, so I am not sure how they cope in the silly season....! One time my shower was a bit cool, so we found it best to avoid the peak times and then there was no problem with hot water. Despite this we would still return as the site is so well situated. On the edge of the Lake, and ten minutes walk around the lakeshore from the Derwent launches and an hour the other way to the foot of Cat Bells (or take the launch); walking in beautiful Newlands Valley or Borrowdale is easily accessible from there. The on site dog walk is OK but as dogs can't be let off here it's best to take a short walk back up the lane and then there is endless space for them to run! The excellent Booths supermarket is a short stumble away as are the shops and pubs of Keswick, our fave Lakeland town. Even so there is a feeling of peace and seclusion here; the site is barely visible even from high points around Derwent.

This has been my third visit to the site, each time at the beginning of May Sadly, each time the weather has been against me but, thanks to the way the site is run, it has caused no problems. Since last year new entrance / exit roads have been designed and more hard standings have appeared. Everything that was good has been kept and the improvements make for an even more enjoyable stay and that is even before the great team running the site are mentioned!. Given the location and the town of Keswick being so close, what more could you want for a really enjoyable break.

The site is in a wonderful setting with views of Derwentwater and surrounding fells. It is only a few minutes walk from the town, Booths supermarket and the bus stops.
It is very easy to use the local buses to get around the area.
The site wardens were extremely helpful and friendly.
Parts of the site did flood while we were there but the new hardstandings held up well.
The showers and toilets are very clean but dated and in urgent need of upgrading.....I did object to the 20p fee for the hairdryer.
The pitches are narrow with just enough room for a caravan and awning which means cars have to be parked infront of the caravan....quite a tight squeeze and it means your view is blocked.
We were there in April but I think in high season the site would feel very cramped.

My wife and I came to Keswick site with our touring caravan on Sunday April 21 for a previously booked week’s stay, arriving about 15.30. We checked in and were assigned to a pitch on the field.
When we got to it, my wife, who has been suffering from depression, felt that she would be unhappy and concerned there, as it was, for example, a long way from the toilet block, and had a restricted view of the surroundings. In fact she was actually in tears.
When we asked if it was possible to move to a different pitch, the staff on duty were very understanding, enormously helpful and sympathetic, and found us a pitch which was much better. In our opinion they could not have been better or done more – we have never, in over forty years of caravanning, experienced a more friendly and helpful service. Added to which, the facilities on site were of a very high standard, and beautifully clean. We would not hesitate to recommend the site to friends.

Lovely site easy to find and right beside Derwent Water the views are spectacular.
Both toilet blocks are situated just inside the campite so we had a bit of a trek up to the shower and washup but that aside it is a fantastic site so well situated for the town and loads of walks in the area and lake cruises. It does tend to attract the massive motor home brigade so we felt a little like the poor kids on the block minus a satelite dish! It looked like NASA at times!! But I loved it very wellcoming staff the Ladies behind the desk are so nice and very helpful. A map of the site would be good chaps! All in all splendid!!

Fantastic site in absolutely amazing position with most beautifull views especially from the main field but this field can be very windy. The access road has recently been resurfaced which is great and extra pitches have been added which has taken away some of the "openess " of the site and as the pitches are quite small it can now feel a little " crowded " , the staff are very friendly and efficient but despite the extra pitches the ancient facilities have not been updated at all and these are not at all adequate for a site of this size they desperately are in need of modernisation, this is the only downside of this lovely site.

This site has a lot going for it with it's good location right on the lake shore and close to the town centre, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the club is investing a lot of money in upgrading the roadways and putting in new hardstandings and during our visit were in the process of installing a Motorhome service point, what lets the site down are the facilities blocks which although kept clean are very dated and tired looking and in need of total refurbishment, with it's location and size Keswick could be considered a flagship site for the club and the current condition of the lower block let's it down quite badly.

We arrived to a very warm and friendly welcome by the staff, who booked us in and showed us to our pitch very quickly with no fuss. They helped us position the van as well as give us information about the site and local area. Our stay was during a very cold easter half term and we were very pleased to find the showers, hot, clean and warmed by fan heaters that ran constantly, even in the early hours of the morning, which was a blessing when you have small children. Access on site is really easy as the road has been widened, re-laid and there is a one way system that keeps everything running smoothly. Its a couple of minutes walk into keswick where you have access to sandwich shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, outdoor shops and a market on Thursdays and Saturdays, selling local produce at reasonable prices. We were able to do some lovely walks straight from the site as well as being able to catch the bus, which goes from Booths supermarket,( literally at the end of the campsite lane), into Borrowdale for more fantastic walks and picnics. We enjoyed our holiday because we didn't have to fret about all the little things that this site provides so well, we would stay here again in a heart beat. Finally i just need to say again how helpfull the staff were, even down to them patrolling the site to make sure everyone is safe. As reletive newbys to campervanning there advice was welcome, helpful, but not intrusive, great job :-)

Easter weekend. We were fit in last minute due to cancellations. Booking over the phone quick and easy. On arrival, a gentleman met us and asked what sort of site we wanted. He took us down to one end of site and we decided to move to other end where a bit more quiet. Really wish i had got his name...he was absolutely fantastic... Geordie guy... As is my partner so they had a few jokes. He was so helpful and outgoing... What a great way to start our weekend. Both shower blocks open, never had to wait for toilet, shower or washing up. Very busy, but still peaceful. We have stayed at this site lots of times...we are members but dont have number on me. yes, they have added 60 more sites making a bit more cramped but what campsite isnt? Staff at this location are an absolute highlight...facilities fantastic! Highly recommend, but book early!,,

I have just returned from this site. The staff are very friendly, helpful and informative. Everything is within walking distance like Booths supermarket, town centre, bus services for further afield trips, the lake and launch plus excellent walking routes from the site. Unfortunately the new motorhome service point is not quite up and running yet but water for motorhomes to fill up is available on a former wardens pitch. Some of the pitches are small making it a bit difficult for larger units to manouver on to.

First visit to this site and wow what a site. Located on the shores of Derwent Water and surrounded by snow covered mountains; it doesn't get much better than this. You could be in Switzerland until you look at how much you are paying a night.....it's peanuts for what you get. Some improvement work is going on but is hardly noticeable and causes no inconvenience. The site is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Keswick with a supermarket even closer. The area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists and we shall certainly be returning. And last but not least, the staff: A great team, who were friendly, helpful, informative and went out of their way to make our stay a most memorable one. Many thanks.....

Before I complete the review, please note the staff are excellent.
We been a caravaning for many years and have recently changed to a motorhome. We knew from previous reviews that the site was run down, but hoped for some semblance of modern facilities. The site was so full that they were using the extra newly laid pitches, 90% motorhomes, one toilet block closed, the other (clean, but old). The motorhome facilities were practically none existant. The comments of other members about the club only looking to make money appears to be confirmed by the fact that they are adding as fast as possible more pitches without doing anything to improve the facilities. Not a happy new member, especially as the blurb states that we should get our membership fees back as the sites are cheaper if you are a member. (this is not the case at Keswick, everyone payse the same). Lovely location, great team there, pity about the management.

What a lovely welcome from the assistants and managers, they are friendly and knowledgable and take a pride in their site. The site from what I have been told has had a lot of work done to bring it more upto date with more hardstanding pitches and also heating in the lower shower block, as I write there is a new motorhome point being worked on and should be open any day soon. The town is a few minutes walk away where you can buy everything you could possibly need.
The only down point for me was the disable shower rooms heater is not powerful enough so could do with a replacement. That said I would come back to this site whenever I am able.

Arrived to a warm welcome and we were promptly shown to our pitch which suited us 100%.Site had been subjected to flooding in February and also the addition of more hard standings consequently the grass was in poor condition and the roads were a bit muddy, but I am sure that thing's will have recovered very soon.
The loos etc are quite old but the management keep them in immaculate condition, plenty of hot water and good pressure.
New barriers just installed and a one way system operates around the Site, but this is not very apparent to new visitors. Views are to die for, , keswick is a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of good eating places, worthy of recommendation is the Oddfellows arms in town centre, a basic pub, well used and a little scruffy, but a good selection of well cooked meals at very reasonable prices.
New management is doing a good job of bringing the site up to their standards, and keswick joins my list of preferred sites.

Stunning scenery. The staff were friendly and welcoming so our arrival couldn't have gone smoother. We nabbed the final site for the night, and many were turned away after we arrived. I was a bit disappointed by the distance I needed to walk to go to the bathrooms or to shower, especially as one of the bathroom blocks is closed at this time of year (couldn't understand why considering the park was still being booked out everyday). Facilities were decent enough, but the shower heads were way too short and I burned my shoulder on the hot water pipe while bending to try to get my head under it (I'm tall, but not that tall!). Staff were lovely but the facilities are probably due for an upgrade.

So in short, our boots and feet stayed damp and rancid for the whole 48 hrs we were on site. Also, the dish washing sinks are outside right next to the bins and under a dirty cob-webbed shelter. And i quote the sign reading, 'Washing up must be done in the sinks outside for hygiene reasons'. I fail to understand how washing up outside next to all that dirt is hygienic. With so many rule signs dotted around the place, we missed the one that stated the facilities were closed between 11:00-12:00 for cleaning. When found still getting changed in there at 11:15, we were asked to leave, and my friend had to stand out in the rain and get changed on the tarmac! The check out time is 12:00, so closing the faciliteis between 11:00 and 12:00 is utter madness! Or could it be so the staff can then be free to greet the next fleet of money turning caravans? (who have their own wash facilities on-board).
Oh and although signs existed stating that all dogs must be kept on leads, we were woken up at 6:00am by a flock of geese scattering round our tent due to being chassed by a wardens loose dog. In short, the site is in a beautiful location, but managment seem to totally depend on this to provide revenue. Insane as it may seem given the nature of the area, this site is not suited in any way, shape or form for walkers or backpackers. In desperate need of strategy re-think by the money focused management, and new and additional facilities.

The Keswick Camping & Caravanning club should remove the word 'camping' from the title, as it seem's the only punters that are valued in the slightest are the ones who pay the most to sit (and wash) in their oversized caravans and winnebago's (Although ALL facilities are poor). We arrived at the site with view to having a bit of restbite from our 4 days spent hiking, and from a painfull knee injury i aquired while climbing. As expected, we had been open to the elements and were looking forward to drying our footwear and clothing. However, having found a small dry mound of grass to pitch our tent between a small patch of trees, and attaching a guy rope to the tree in order to hang up our boots and socks ect, we were promptly told to remove it, as they are strictly banned on CCC sites. I questioned this as there were no other campers present in the area, and it was clearly not going to cause a problem to anything or anyone. I was then told, and i quote, " you can't tie string to trees and you couldn't have put it in a worse place". After this baffling comment we proceeded to the tumble dryers, only to be met with big signs reading 'No footwear to be put in the dryers'. Our only option to combat our near gangrenous feet was to hang our boots inside the well vented tent and dry them using the gas stove. The small BBQ we purchased and placed on rocks at the entrance to our tent in order to give our feet and boots some warmth was ordered to be extinguished, as the fire lighter (labelled smokeless safety log) was classed as an open fire. We have been visiting this site for upwards of 15 years, primarily because of its position regarding views, accessibility to town and hill walking, and convenience. Over recent years the facilities on the site have deteriorated alarmingly and we have been of the understanding that the toilet blocks have been going to be upgraded for several years now. There are numerous incidents I could mention in these blocks such as 'out of use' and peeling and damaged paintwork and taps not working, but the condition of the showers which are badly stained and discoloured discourages use. The use of a mop afterwards cannot help. The approach road also is so pitted with pot holes that is is both messy and dangerous to walk to the camp site and driving whilst towing a unit can be very difficult as the holes are usually full of water and cannot be seen. The staff work hard to keep up appearances but have absolutely no chance of making this site acceptable. It would also be useful to have an outside shower beside the lake to discourage the use of the shower block to clean wet suits after lake use.
Due to the beautiful setting and convenient positioning of the Keswick site this should be the jewel in the CCC crown and the amount of use the site gets certainly brings in the cash. When will it be acknowledged by the CCC and treated in the way that is its due? With all these problems I, like many others, will continue to use this site because of the aforementioned positive reasons and I have no doubt that this is what the CCC is counting on. When will improvements be forthcoming?

having visited a lot of clubsites over the years and baring in mind the location of this site on what should be the clubs gold standard iwas sadly disappointed with the site overall.
1 stunning location on the lake
2 close to town
3 poor access road
4 we all know about the rain in the area and considering it wont be getting any better then why are all the pitches hard stand only
5 i arrived to find the site well under water and although a message that i did not receive 1600 the previous day was made no attempt was made to find a suitable hardstand.
6 my advice is stay away unless there has been adrought.
7 2 toilet blocks are not nearly enough for the size of the site one of which is sadly needing condemed.
so come on keswick. give a stunning area a site to be proud of and make me come back.

This site has seemingly changed Warden since my last visit. I witnessed a total of 3 dogs owned by the wardens 'escape' ie off lead!. As a responsible owner my dog was on lead but an incident is clearly waiting to happen as 2 of these dogs approached other owners and their dogs. I now do not feel dog safe on this site!.
Other owners were also not keeping their pets on leads. Should the Wardens not lead by example or don't the rules apply to them?.
Shower facilities need much updating!.
A fantastic site location but management of it seems to be slipping and will eventually spoil it!. What a shame 'cos it really is a little piece of heaven!.

Disabled members should be warned that the so-called disabled facility is open to all and sundry. . Thus genuine disabled can find they are unable to use the room having travelled some distance to do so in this large lovely site..
We realise that the staff are hard working and might find the issue and recovery of keys onerous.
Why not place a lock on the door that can only be opened with a Radar key ? Problem solved !

Just back from a 3day break at Keswick. The wardens were great and had a very difficult job due to the poor weather. This is the first time I've been back at this site for 5years and cannot believe the lack of investment at his site. The access road is full of pot holes. The drainage is non exisitant on the grass areas and the quality of the hard standings at the rear of the site is really poor.[weeds growing through thr gravel] This site is a license to print money, it must be one of the busiest sites in the UK . With this in mind the Caravan and Camping club should be embarrassed by the conditions here and the sheer lack of investment. They do not deserve the support of the membership

We stayed at the oval site Keswick , lovely location , But unfortunately spoilt with the over enthusiasm of the wardens , lovely morning sat outside of van 10 o clock an he started a petrol blower machine to blow away a bit of pollen on the Tarmac and gave us a headache . It didn't need doing . Witnessed a argument with another camper which got quite heated . But finally he stoped ., He could of used a brush the man said . But that would of been hard work,

Excellent for motorhomes as you do not require a car, the supermarket (Booths) is just down the road, as is the centre of Keswick and you are literally right on the lake therefore making it ideal for those requiring lake launching facilities.
I would agree with previous reviews that the facilities need updating, there are no facilities for washing young children (ie large sink or toddler bath) which was essential, given the wet/muddy campsite, the play park looked more like a buffalo watering hole!
We paid for hardstanding and had our very own pond in our awning, the hardstanding pitches, had clearly sunk.
Our greatest disappointment with the site was the lack of reassurance from the wardens that the campsite would not be flooded, which was on "flood watch" for the whole time we were there, meaning you had to stay within a four mile radius in case you had to move your unit and leaving you going to sleep at night not knowing if you were going to get a knock on the door telling you to get off site within an hour with no where to go!
I understand that the weather is not within the control of the wardens, as the flood risk was dependent upon the two rivers that surround the site and not the lake, as once they broke their banks that was it! The uncertainty over the flood risk made what was supposed to be a relaxing, get away from it all break tense and worrying. The weather you expect, the flood risk...no! See YouTube videos of Keswick CCC site flooding for details. Had we been warned when booking or even informed before setting out from home, we would have gone elsewhere and will do in future.

We have just returned from Keswick, we had last been 2 years ago. We found the welcome friendly and the man that showed us to our pitch was helpful. The actual site was as lovely as ever. However, the state of the toilets and showers has put us off coming again. I have actually taken photos but have been unable to post them with this review. Only having been to the Hayfield site the week before and their modern and clean facilities, we were shocked to see the dilapidated, crumbling and basically 3rd world toilet/shower facilities at Keswick. A half hearted attempt has been made at some stage to replace some of the toilet bowels and cisterns, but the walls, floors and ceilings are disgusting, stained, damp, crumbly and full of insects and bugs. One of the assistants (Gerald) told us that the Council actually own the land and that 75p of every £1 income goes to the Council and that is why the toilets are in the state they are. Surely the Club gets enough revenue from this site (supposedly one of the busiest) to renovate the toilet blocks. Each person we spoke to said they would not be coming again to Keswick until it had been modernised. We are also not going to be returning to Keswick until then. The Club can surely afford over winter to do something to bring those 2 blocks, especially the older one, into the 21st century.

Fantastic views and lake but Mother Nature produced this, not CCC. Those facilities within their control are tired, dirty and in need of some maintenance. We arrived in the rain and were greeted with 'pick a puddle' and were led to an utter quagmire. Grass pitch area undulated resulting in huge puddles. Similarly, hard stands have clearly settled and in consequence caravan awnings were flooded, some to a depth of 4". Potholes in the approach road are unacceptable and hidden under water. We accept it rains the The Lakes. However, simple works to raise the hard stands and fill the dips in the grass pitches is surely not too much to ask - it is an expensive site after all. We cut our holiday short and asked for a refund of the difference and were told it was our choice to do so, so no. All I can say is that the long term lack of maintenance of the pitches and the filth we had to endure strongly influenced our (and others) decision. Mud when camping is to be expected - but this abused that privilege. C'mon CCC invest and repair - you might justify the high fees! Strongly recommend for the scenery only.

Come on CCC, the shower blocks on this site are way past their sell by date, get your act together and do something about them! They are dirty, mouldy, fittings are hanging off the walls/ceilings (exposing bare wires in one case I noticed above a shower), they are a haven for insects, none of the extractor fans appear to work, in fact they are so encrusted in dirt and dust that they probably won't work anymore. We love this site/location and have been several times but probably won't visit again until substantial improvements have been made to the facilities. The CCC is spending money this winter on more hardstandings and ehu's but no mention of any cash being spent where it's really needed.

The location of this site is fantastic. Right on the Lake and a 5 minute walk into Keswick.
But Oh Dear - I think that the time has come to do some serious upgrading. I must echo some of the other reviewers and say that the shower and toilet blocks are no longer acceptable. This is one of the Clubs more expensive sites and I`m sure we all go because of the location, but it is not really fair to ask people to use dirty ,mouldy and smelly facilities.
The other comment I wish to make is that one of the Warden`s dog was shut up in the awning all day long and continually howled ( we were on a pitch just opposite). Apart from being cruel to the dog, it was very hot, I`m sure that if it was my dog howling all day then something would have been said.
After saying all these negative things I`m sure we will continue visiting because it is so beautiful there and we had a fantastic week.

I would totally recommend for families, my children loved the park and splashing around in the lake with my husband and I. The wardens were very friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout our stay. Our grass electric pitch was wet and muddy but to be expected anywhere with the rain we have had. However I am sure we had the best five days of the year in the glorious sunshine, met some lovely friendly people, the children adored the site and cried when had to come home. Keswick Club Site is in a spectacular setting on the shores of Derwentwater, with stunning scenery. We've been coming here since 1998, but over the years the facilities have deteriorated to the point where the Club needs to invest some money here urgently. The cheerful site managers work tirelessly to keep the facilities clean and the toilets and sinks are immaculate. But in the showers, daily cleaning can't eradicate the mould, rusty fittings and broken tiles. The Club can fill this site every night of the season because of the location, provided free by Mother Nature. The showers that the campers pay for, (and at the Club's highest rate too) are no longer of an acceptable standard and the Club needs to invest money in refurbishment, urgently. It's simply not fair to the site managers (who have to use these facilities themselves every day) or to the paying campers, to fail to provide decent showers, just because the natural beauty brings in the customers anyway. The time has come to either refurbish or downgrade the Keswick site. Despite this, we will still come back, but it would be nice to see the Club bring the showers up to standard for everyone.

This is a busy and popular site and takes a hammering from both nature ( surprise! the lake floods the campsite in the wettest corner of England, sometimes) and the number of campers who want to stay on a perfectly situated pitch with one of the best views from anywhere in the UK, 10 minutes walk from the centre of one of England's finest small towns is enormous. Having said that I cannot understand the reviews which speak of people staying on this site obsessing about dire facilities, I quite like stainless steel sinks which are fully functional if quaint, etc, etc. I think that it would be environmentally unwise simply to rip out perfectly good facilities to satisfy the Trip Advisor Crowd. If we do not like the deteriorating appearance of old things, many members and their outfits should not be allowed on site. If campers at Keswick get out more, they will have a fabulous few days on a super site. Especially get there from May to October when the Theatre by the Lake (10 mins walk) has its repertory season. The bus station with easy links into the very heart of the Lake District is 5 mins walk away. You really don't need a car to enjoy this site. Back pack in by bus or by foot, get one of the shore pitches with only the ducks for company and any other site in Britain will be an anti climax. Have I said enough? go there!

After being booked in by someone who managed to book us in and ignore us at the same time we were shown to the one pitch we had to choose from. Unfortunately it was next to the rugby field where a new car park was being laid. This meant noise from 7.45-5.30 each day and lots of dust. While I understand the club has no control over this it did spoil what should have been a relaxing break. The facilities are old and in dire need of refurbishment. However the superb position of this site means thst it remains very popular.

We are bemused by some of the reviews about this site.
We have stayed twice this year already, and on another occasion the site was full.
The facilities are dated, but perfectly serviceable, and the staff are friendly, but always seem busy keeping the site in good order. The ducks and geese were quite noisy, which is what ducks and geese are.
We will happily return, and would say to the complainers that if they can't live like campers, go to a hotel.

We have been coming to this site in Keswick for over 20 years and it has always been our favourite due to it's close proxiimity to the town centre. I can understand most of the negative comments that other people have left about the site. We have found some of the staff a bit unfriendly in the past but we have found most of they welcoming and friendly. We have not used the toilet facilities for probably more than 10 years preferring to use our own shower and toilet in the caravan. My wife describes the shower blocks as 'minky' and unpleasant. The blocks have not changed all the years we have visited this site. We used to try and get into the site next to the lane down past the rugby club as it had super pitches. However the club sold off the site and built lodges. I remember talking to a warden years ago who mentioned that the money from selling off the site would be used to develop walker park but this never seems to have happened. The Keswick site is difficult to book as it is popular with many members but it need more hard standing pitches especially with its propensity to waterlog and flood. The site is also expensive probably because it is so popular, but is the club just using the site as a 'cash cow' milking it for all it's worth without investing in modern toilet and shower facilities. perhaps the staffing level at the site needs to be improved to make the work of the busy wardens a bit more bearable and give them more time to help create the 'friendly'' club that the marketing people are always promoting.

I have been visiting the Keswick site for several years now. After my visit this year I do feel that it is getting worse. Although the location of the site is excellent .. close to the Lake and the Town of Keswick ... ( that can't possibly get any worse ! ) . Most of the management and services appear to be going downhill. When I arrived I was given a pitch by a member of staff and then the manager of the site came round shortly afterwards and asked me to move. The 6 metre rule appears to be regarded as a maximium ( or exactly )rather than a minimum distance. While also being instructed that two parked cars need to be able to fit into the 6 metre gap between tents, which suprised me as I would want 6m of clear space between tents to prevent fire spreading ! The toilet and shower blocks are also very tired and a long walk if you are towards the back of the site. They do appear at times just to try and cram as many pitches in as possible, at the detriment to people who have booked and planned their Holiday many months in advance. I genuinely hope that the management of the site ( and Caravan Club Members ) read these reviews because I think this could definitely be one of the best sites in the country with a bit more customer care and investment. I have still recommended this site based on this ... but if I have a similar experience ( or worse ) on my next visit then I would not be returning until I see better reviews on the site.

I can only echo some recent comments. We were absolutely appalled at the condition and cleanliness of facilities on site. Black mould, dust and rust in the shower cubicles is not what you expect on a CCC site. And you were lucky if every other hot tap worked in the loos and the washing up area. As for the friendly welcome, forget it, the check in process took 20 minutes plus and there was not a queue, just a warden who appeared not to be able to navigate the computer system. The rest of the time wardens ignore you, I assume for fear of complaint re the facilities, the do however spent a lot of time drinking cups of tea and coffee and having a cigarette outside the reception area. Oh and also beware, the first night we were subjected to one set of facilities being closed down as it seemed they had forgotten to arrange for the septic tank to be emptied but not to worry the tanker arrived at 10.30pm and finished emptying at 15 minutes past midnight!! The noise was so loud it made our 'van vibrate! Not so bad if we had been told to expect it or given a quick apology the day after, but alas nothing.
The location may be very convenient but could not recommend until facilities and wardens improve.

Stayed her for the first time over the May bank holiday weekend. We were very impressed with the location, short walk into Keswick. We were sited by the lake which was nice but seemd to be directly under the flight path of the Canada Geese as they honked there way over the tent at 4am!! Checking in was an interesting experience, long queues and a system where you are checked in, allowed through the barrier in your vehicle and then taken onto your pitch one at a time so that was tedious and slow. The site is idyllic, very quiet, but the shower blocks although good, (hot free showers and a 20p a time haridryer) do need some updating. Would defiantely stay again if I can muster the energy to wait to check in. All in all I would recommend this to families and couples alike. We had 9 nights and couldn't get a hard standing. We were flooded had a paddling pool inside our awning so big the ducks took resident! We asked if we could move but couldn't, even tho the site was half empty! I found the wardens were not the friendlest or accommodating. The facilities are shocking! The site's location is perfect as it's only a short walk to the bustling centre of Keswick. On this basis I would recommend the site to anyone who puts location and convenience above all else.
However the toilet block facilities are poor, the individual cubicles are too small and the showers were frankly dirty. These need a thorough refurbishment to bring them up to modern standards, or better still knocking down and starting again.
Also the on site staff could do with some training on the new computer system, as other than the basic bookings this was a mystery to them. Also a few smiles wouldn't go amiss !

Website booking not recommended as not all pitches have electric hook up - best to phone for bookings. Site was nice enough on arrival, though only one toilet block was open (4 showers in each block) which was a little limited as campsite was so busy. Site is an excellent base for adventuring the local area, plenty country walks.
Advisable to have an extra long electric cable (just in case, though site do hire them out). We did find it a little crowded near the end of our stay, camper vans seemed to be wedged in between tourers and a little too close for comfort. Over all, a decent enough site, just a little too crowded for us.

We stayed here for the first time in July 2011, although have stayed at the now defunct Derwentwater site in the past several times.
Great location and an easy walk to shops, pubs and visitor atractions. The whole of the Lake District is easily accessible from this site.
The toilets are, as said, not the greatest, but are spotlessly clean.
We have a dog and Keswick allows dogs in most pubs, but not indoors when eating(understandable),and in plenty of shops.
If you get the weather then this has to be one of the best sites in the UK. If it rains for days on end, then lack of things to do locally on rainy days might be a problem (Dog Owners especially).

Our only criticisms relate to the facilities and pitches. The facilities are very out-dated and are in much need of an upgrading - also there are not enough showers when the site is full even when both blocks are open. Also, due to the wetness of the site all caravan pitches should be hard-standing.

Had a great holiday the site was as usual clean quiet and well mananged, however considering that the camping and caravaning club motto is the friendly site I found this far from friendly by the attitude of some site staff who when was bid a good morning on our last day chose to scowl back at my wife rather than knowledge a social greeting. On the suject of the last day there seemed to be some confusion, we received a knock at our caravan door at 9,15 to be informed that we should have left the site the previous day this was discovered by our scowling friend, however when we went to pay for our extra night but it was not poosible to do so, as there had been payment already made on the site commputer, there for the mistake had been made with the numbers nights that had been alocated to us although we had orinally had paid for in full for all our stay.We did not receieve an apoligy from the staff member who had came to our van earler that morning. On the whole we were very diapointed by the way were treated by certain staff over the hoiday, and given us reserves about returning.

Great setting, ideal location, no need to use the car. Glad to see money is being spent on the site to repair roads and put in more hardstandings. The club must upgrade the facilities, they are clean but very dated. Some taps in the sinks need repair. We will return if we can get a booking.

Fabulous setting, possibly the best!
Facilities old but functional, warm and clean. Pleased to see plenty of coat hooks in the loos and showers - more modern installations could learn from this.
Despite there being a queue of people waiting to enter the site the warden helped to position the van on the pitch.
We were fortunate to get one of the prime pitches looking out over the lake. The view was great but the L shaped hard standing was too narrow to allow the van step and water container to rest on the tarmac, and we had to position them on the wet grass. This was at a lower level than the tarmac and meant that it was a bit dodgy stepping from the van to the step - particularly when there was frost about. Easily remedied Club, please do it!
No need to speak about the opportunities for fell walking and cycling, this is God's own country!
Will return, assuming that we can get a booking, superb!

We've been visiting Keswick for many years now. This site has not had any improvements made to it in all those years. We always go in October or February and is always full - even so there is only 4 showers for women and 4 for men. This is totally inadequate and they're desparate for an update ( maybe including a few family shower rooms ). The pitches and access roads are always water logged and need widening with more gravel. The road down to the site is in bad need of maintenance as there was only one light working when we were last there. Its also full of potholes. This site must make so much money as it is always full, some of the money needs to go into improving - if it wasn't for its close proximity to Keswick and it's stunning views and location we would find somewhere else to stay.

THIS WAS OUR SECOND VISIT TO THIS SITE.WE LOVE THE LOCATION AND THE WARDENS ARE VERY HELPFUL. OUR FIRST VISIT WAS THE WEEK BEFORE THE LAST BANK HOLIDAY, WE WERE MEETING FRIENDS WHO WERE CAMPING FOR THE WEEK. WE ARE FULLY AWARE OF THE WEATHER AND DRAINAGE PROBLEMS OF THE SITE,OUR FRIENDS PITCH WAS OK BUT OTHERS LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE CAMPED FOR A MUSIC FESTIVAL,WITH MUD AND AT TIMES WATER AROUND LIKE SMALL MOATS.IN SEPTEMBER WE ARRIVED ON THE THURSDAY ALL WAS FINE, IT HAD RAINED BUT OUR HARD STANDING WAS OK PITCH 127.
DURING THE WEEKEND A NOTICE APPEARED ONE OF THE TOILET BLOCKS WAS BEING SHUT,WHICH LEFT 4 SHOWERS FOR AROUND I SHOULD SAY 100 PITCHES STILL OPEN THATS 4 FOR MEN AND 4 FOR LADIES THE BLOCK WHICH WAS LEFT HAS MOULD ON THE CEILINGS AND THE SHOWERS ARE PREHISTORIC, ALSO LOTS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER MEMBERS.WE HAVE TOLD ALL OUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE SITE IT IS IN NEED OF
RESTORATION BUT THE LOCATION IS BEAUTIFULL. IT IS AN 10 MINUET WALK INTO KESWICK.

We have stayed on this site many times before, when we arrived this time the grass pitches had been flooded and ours was out of action, however the staff were wonderful and set us up with a pitch on the road where we could have electric hookup.
I agree the toilet blocks are tired but they are always immaculately clean the staff on this site work hard. It's an extreemly busy site and I'm not suprised the location is superb for Kewick town and walkers. One of the reasons we return here time after time is that Keswick is so dog friendly you can take your precious pooches into most pubs and shops. A wonderful site in a wonderful town.

I agree with the possitive comments already left here by so many members.
I wish however to comment on the tiredness and style of the shower blocks.
If 2011 has been one of the most successful years todate for attendences and membership numbers are increasing then more needs to be done to the Keswick Facilities. They are tired mouldy and run down. Maybe the success of the site and the attractiveness of Camping this year has placed undue strain on Keswick's shower blocks. If it has been in high demand this year then this would qualify my comment and concerns.
I suggest spending some of the Club's funds on upgrading the facilities.
The size of the shower heads isn't of a high standard and makes showering an uncomfortable experience.

The location of the site is superb within easy walking distance of the town centre, however the facilities left a lot to be desired. The gents loos and showers were filthy, the womens were reasonably clean but in need of an update. Only 1 of the pot washing sinks had a hot water tap that worked. After 2 nights of heavy rain we had to leave a night early as the site was waterlogged, investment is needed in drainage and new facilities, we feel this site is thriving due to the location only.

Had a lovely time at Keswick - it's hard to imagine a site anywhere in the world with better views. The staff were very friendly and polite. Our little boy loved the site - plenty of space to ride his bike, going to the lake to feed the ducks (and leaving a trail of duck food for them to follow him back to our caravan). The playground is nice and safe. We were at the far corner of the site where the two rivers merge (there is fencing all around so it's not too unsafe for little ones). Bit of a hike to the toilet block (from where we were - clocked it on my phone at 309 metres (sorry, it didn't give me the distance in old money)) and would benefit from a bit better lighting on the way. Toilet block was always clean and well maintained, the only thing that would be an improvement (and it's a little petty) would be a bit of Dettox Mould and Mildew spraying on the tiles in the showers. In all it's a wonderful site, amazing location, excellent staff and we'd not hesitate to visit again.

This was the first time we had ever been caravaning. We bought a 16 year old Fleetwood Colchester and it is gorgeous. Old but perfectly formed. Very friendly welcome. John caught on to the fact that we were new to it all as I told him that my husband had never ever reversed or manouvered a van before. He said he was going to invite everyone to bring their deckchairs to sit and watch. Joking aside, he was extremely helpful and gave my husband a mini lesson in how to position the van perfectly on the pitch. It was a little muddy on the site but that is hardly surprising considering the rain that had been falling. We had a view of Derwntwater which is outstandingly beautiful whatever the weather. The atmosphere on the site was lovely. All the children were obviously having a good deal of fun. Everyone was very considerate and friendly. The shower was housed in basic but clean facilities and was lovely and hot. Considering how busy the site was it was excellently maintained. We love our enderly little caravan and wish we had decided to do this many years ago. Would definately visit this camp site again

This is an extremely busy site so we were more than impressed by their efforts and they managed to make our break at Keswick its usual excellent experience. As a matter for head office the shower and toilet facilities are ready for modernisation although their cleanliness was not at fault.

Just returned from a week in a tent on this site. One adult and two teenage children - we all found it a great site. Amazing views, friendly and helpful people. Clean toilet/shower block, which could do with being updated but are by no means the worst we've seen. This site seems to have something for everyone. There is opportunity for boating on the lake, walking/climbing in the hills, or just sitting and soaking up the surrounding views. We had some heavy rain but even though we were sited close to the lake we didn't need to bale out! We're definately going back next year. Many thanks to the site staff.

I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were excellent and always ready to help. The area we were given to camp on was well kept, and right next to the lake. The two toilets/shower blocks were always kept very clean and tidy.
If you arrive to book in at peak times, you may need to wait for a while but it is worth the wait.

We arrived at the beginning of our yearly 4 week stay to be warmly greeted by Andy who recognised us from our last visit. He showed us to our pitch, offering any assistance we needed and afterwards never passed without a friendly word of greeting. This certainly creates a good feel about the site. The location is perfect with hills, town and water all very accessible. As others have said the toilet facilities require attention with 1 shower in the gents unusable for 3 days with broken lock and a plug missing for 3 weeks. Also the number of toilets left unflushed is amazing. The wardens worked very hard to keep up the cleanliness and frequently cleaned out of regular cleaning times to improve facilities. As ever our stay was very pleasant and if the toilet and shower facilities were upgraded the site could be perfect. We hear Andy and Chris are moving this week to manage Culzean Castle and wish them both the very best of luck and hope to visit their site at some time. Other campers will appreciate their welcome and attention.

The 5 nights that we spent on the site were not to the clubs usual standard for the following reasons. (1)our small motorhome was pitched on the grass on a corner location. On one side was a caravan 14 ft away and off our corner another caravan 16ft away whose awning was 8 ft away, consequently we felt unsafe considering the club rule states a gap of 20ft for fire safety reasons.
On consulting a site manager I was offered a different location if one came available which I declined due to the upheaval involved. (2)With most of the 250 pitches being occupied the toilet/washing facilities are inadequate and out dated.(3)The weather was excellent but we had to sit inside due to the rowdy evening alchohol fueled parties that took place most evenings. Site wardens do not seem to patrol and stop such antisocial activities.

BUT, given the revenue that this very popular site must generate the facilities are very poor.
Some of the cash needs to be ploughed back into sone decent toilet and shower blocks . The current set up is like a 1950's army camp. Though the staff do keep them fairly clean.
A great site spoilt for the lack of spending a little cash.

We had a nice stay in our motorhome, no problems there but we could hardly believe the conditions for some of the tenters (our family included) in the large field the centre of which is used mainly for tents. The area is lower than the access roads that surround it and consequently in rain (and there was plenty of that) some tents stood in oozing mud and occupants were trudging through standing water to get in and out of their tents. We were embarassed to see it. This Club is a camping Club after all and should do much much more for tenters on this site. They were clearly regarded by the Club as second class citizens paying good money for frankly the poorest conditions around. Everyone knows it rains a lot here, hence the lakes. So, how come the Club is so ill prepared for it with respect to tenters? Ray & Ann

Beautiful, breathtaking site. Weather was great when we visited, so it was perfect for them to paddle while we sat beside the lake. The wardens were really friendly and attentive, especially Andrew who sited us. He was cheerful and helpful despite probably being one of the busiest weekends for them due to adjacent beer festival. The site is very well kept and although the toilets are quite dated, they were spotless. The only thing which I would comment on was the access. It is a busy site and we waited 3/4 hour in a queue to get on, and it was difficult to get on and off the site once you were settled due to people queing to get in, but really there is little they can do about that because there is just one road in and out, but I wouldn't let it spoil our fun. The town is five minutes away and Keswick is quite beautiful. Highly recommend this site and hope to get back very soon.

A large and busy site in a beautiful location. Good for walking, canoeing and sightseeing. The site was full and facilities too few and too far from most pitches. The staff were well organised and friendly, but I got the impression that they were flat out and under pressure. This site is always likely to be popular but the club needs to invest in the site, more facilities at far side of site, perhaps more staff at busy times, more hard surfaces in wet areas. A good site which could deteriorate fast if remedial action is not undertaken.

This is a huge site and would benefit from another toilet block. The site is right on the lake shore and great for kids and dogs. Downside is that when it rains Oh boy does it rain. When we were there the ducks were actually swimming on the grass - the water was inches deep and very very muddy. However, that's not something the wardens can do anything about. We probably prefer The Oval site next door - smaller and all hard standing pitches.

When it's wet the tent pitches are very poor and muddy. Our pitch was also very far from the toilet blocks which are both by the entrance. For such a large busy campsite the toilet blocks are very inadequate. Over the bank holiday weekend I queued over 30 minutes for a shower. On the plus side the location of the site can not be beaten. For the five days of our trip the vehicle never moved. The kids loved the site. Will definitely go again but would seriously think about cancelling if the weather was bad.

This is a really good site with stunning views, within easy walking distance of Keswick town centre and it's easy to get to. We've been for the last 3 years and we'll go again but it really is time that the Club spent some money on the facilities. There are 2 amenity blocks but both are next to the entrance so you have a long walk if you're at the other end of the site and they can be smelly. The amenity blocks are well overdue an upgrade and compare badly with those offered by the Caravan Club.

Wonderfully friendly welcome when we arrived. We were then shown a number of available pitches to choose from - all with great views of Derwentwater or the fells. Large pitches, although some people seemed unable to follow the (clear) instructions and parked their cars on the adjacent pitch instead! Two decent-sized toilet blocks meant there were rarely any queues for showers and although the facilities may have been old, they were absolutely spotless. Ten minutes walk into Keswick town centre with a fantastic choice of outdoor shops! Had a lovely meal in The Kings Arms - booking recommended. Superb walking/cycling from the site. Just back from our first, but not last, stay at this site. We were a family of 4 plus a dog. Found the site very friendly and well looked after. As others have said it's very close to Keswick centre and the supermarket Booths. Although the shop in reception has plenty of essentials if needed?
The views are beautiful, hard to beat. Our children loved boating on the lake and the dog enjoyed his walks.
The wardens seem to keep a good eye out. We had some noise from one group of men but they weren't too bad really. Plus were only there our first night.
Downside is the facilities being far from the island where we pitched. 2 blocks at the entrance seem a bit silly? It'd be great if they could put toilets at the very least at the other end from the entrance?
Other than that thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Weather was fantastic for April too :)

The staff are Exemplary often working late into the evening to make the site spottless and inviting for all to enjoy. The only downside to this site is, as stated by many before me, that the drainage desparatly needs attention, even after one evening of light rain the site soon became waterlogged, also why are both toilet blocks vertually next to each other would't it be more practical for them to be spread over this large site

Just returned from a loveley 3 day break at the Keswick site. The site has wonderful views towards the lake and the surrounding fells. It's a 5 minute walk from Keswick centre so very close to shops, pubs and restaurants etc. The staff were very friendly & helpful on our arrival and throughout our stay. We stayed on a hardstanding pitch which was great and would recommend. We would also stay on the grass pitches as they are very level but could get quite wet if the weather is bad. Toilets and showers were spotless. Will definitely stay again.

Having stayed there several times in the past 12 years, we chose to stay at Keswick on rejoining the club this month. It has fantastic views, is very convienent for a stroll into Keswick or walk up the beautiful northern fells but when oh when will the toilet/shower block be replaced. The showers are cramped and dingy, the ceilings and walls have flaking paint and mould and worse, the water flow is barley adequate and the water drains very slowly. Stainless steel sinks and toilet cubicles from an army nissan hut also fail to impress. This must be one of the clubs busiest sites and deserves much better.

Stayed here 2009 and 2010. Both times there were flooding problems but, especially in 2010, the staff worked their socks off to look after everybody. We arrived back one evening (10.30pm) to fined our pitch flooded but the staff were there to help and moved us to a dry spot. Flooding is a known risk at this site but I cannot thank the wardens there enough for their diligence and support. And at the same time they coped with the usual chores keeping the place clean and tidy. Well done and thanks. I would recommend the site to anyone. Country setting but only a few minutes walk to the lovely town centre.

Wonderful views, we have been coming here for the past 7 years. You can leave the car, catch a boat or bus and walk to your hearts content. Keswick is great for shopping and food and now the shops and pubs are really dog friendly. It does occasionlly flood, we have only had our holiday cancelled once though. Could do with the drainage being sorted but what do you expect being right of the edge of the lake. Great beer festival at the beginning of June held on the Rugby pitch next door. Toilets and showers are clean but could do with updating. We are taking our friends and dogs here in June 2011 for their first trip and first hike up the mountains.

Just returned from a 4 day break. A friendly welcome was received at this campsite and John the warden showed us to our hard standing with awning pitch. Pitches are of a decent size with ample parking for car as well as awning space.
Facilities, maybe a little dated however always spotlessly clean (the women’s were anyway) and has the added bonus of a free standing baby bath but no family room which was a bit of a disappointment for us with a 15 month old.
Small play area in the middle with swings and a slide can be a little noisy but what are play areas for?
The views from this site are amazing, with the ebb of the Derwentwater one side and the wonderful fells on the other, either way your unit is facing it is a picture post card view. A 5 min walk into the town centre where you can find all your amenities’, including the unforgettable and infamous “Cow pie†at the George inn and Goulash at the Dog and Gun (1/3 potions recommended at both), Please note though, the pubs are not child friendly.
Walks are plentiful and easily started from the site itself highly recommended is the walk to the Nichol End Launch point on the Derwentwater approx. 2.5 steady level walk good for first timers, and children - £1.80pp for the boat back (under 5’s free).
Positives: views, ample pitch size Negatives: no family room. Cannot wait to return.

My family have been coming here since 2006 with one year when we missed - so we obviously like it! Great for convenience for town (and Convention!) but the risk of flooding is real!

The wardens did their best to fit us in as part of the site was unusable due to the recent rain. Site in general was clean and tidy, though I did raise with one of the assistants the cleanliness of the disabled facilites. They were accesible by all users, and of a cramped capacity - this meant any grass/mud walked in was practically where you would be to have a shower. Beautiful lakeside site, and we also walked into the town of Keswick where we also enjoyed a visit to the Pencil Museum (which was a great little place to visit).

Fantastic site - Ive known it for 33 years! I do think that drainage of the actual pitches could be improved. They soon flood even after a small amount of rain! Its great that you dont need your car on this site everywhere is within walking distance including two excellent supermarkets. Keswick is Fab!

My husband and I stayed in July 2010, the weather was variable, but that's expected. Excellent location, especially for walking and Keswick town within walking distance for pubs/shops. My only critisism would be how busy the site was, vans / vehicles constantly coming and going and very little space in between vans / tents, but I expect this was due to time of year. Shower / toilet facilities clean and tidy, although a blocked drain in shower was an issue, but sorted promptly. Overall a lovely site, with helpful staff. We hope to visit again next year.

Motorhome waste is very difficult to use - in a corner, on a slope. Motorhomes with wastepipe midway along the van would need to manoeuvre the front wheel around the already open waste point. Long vans might not be able to use the point. There is a very loud noise in the ladies toilet block (from the ventilation system?).
The site is very convenient for the town, walking and boating.
