I stayed 5 nights at Conkers. The site is very open and will improve when the hedges/trees mature. Whilst it is surrounded by built up areas it feels like being in the country. There are numerous footpaths from the site through the National Forest (a lot of which is newly planted). The facilities were spotless as the site was in general.. It was peaceful and quiet at night.
I would gladly stay here again.

We have just returned from staying at Conkers campsite during a cold Easter week. The campsite was superb. It was a great base to explore the area. Toilets and showers on site were excellent. I would recommend this site, we will be returning.
We visited Conkers which is a short walk from the site, our boys aged 9 and 6 really enjoyed it. Take your receipt/membership card to receive good discount.

We loved this site - the welcome was great, we were late getting there and the site managers called our mobile to check we were OK. Facilities were wonderfully warm and clean and we're going back there with more family in April 2013! Thank you to Conkers!

We had a wonderful weekend at Conkers! We broke down on the way and the site were very quick to reassure us we could arrive when we got there! So after a stressful journey we arrived to a very warm welcome. The custodions of the site were great, full of advice and happy to help with anything. The toilet and shower block was immaculate. The showers always hot and very clean. The pitch was lovely. It was ideal as a base for cycling. There was nothing I could say that needed improving. It is a site I would recommend to anyone. The local pub was a very short walk away, so family friendly, again a very warm welcome and good food!

We are coming to the end of a five night stay and we have nothing but positive views on the site. The staff were friendly and very helpful, the toliets and shower block were exceptionally clean and, although the weather was not ideal, we had no problems with anything on site.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, especially a day out at Conkers. I think we will be coming back during the summer and bring our grandsons.

I have stayed here for the last 4 years both with friends as a group (as well as with my family on our own) and have always found it to be a good site. However this year the stay was marred by the attitude of one of the site staff not just for me but for other members of the group I was with, some of which a few were also members of the CCC. We are looking for another site to meet at in future as a result of this.

i took my 16 yr old son, his girlfriend my 5 yr old son and my 2 year old son. stayed for 3 nights. at frst they were very friendly, but on the last night, they came over and complained that my younger sons had been screaming their heads off all day on the park and i should keep a better eye on my children. other campers had complained to them. i tried to explain to the manager that my family and i had been in conkers itself from about 10 am and had only got back about 1 mins before the complaint. as i apologsed and continued to watch, it was other children on site screaming and carrying on, not my boys. very clean and amenable but keep your children's excitement/happiness to a minimum. best bit was someone close to us kept playing his blasted trumpet until about 11pm most nights and not 1 word was said about him! i fell if you 'fit' brilliant, but if not, beware!. will not be returning.

This was our first stay on an official site and I have since stayed on others. I like the fact that if there is a rule it is applied and not complietely ignored as on other sites I have stayed on. EG. If no ball games are allowed by the tents that's exactly what it means. The site is great but I don't recommend the chips from the chip van. Yuck.

First time at this site. Great welcome, facilities clean and warm!
Lots of walking/cycling from the site.
Only complaint was the WiFi - or lack of it. The coverage on the site is pathetic. The aerial is on the office under the eaves of a metal roof.
Only about a third of the site can use WiFi effectively. Please put the aerial on top of the facilities block.

FIrst every experience in our new motorhome, easy to book through the C&C club, easy to find.
On arrival at the site Friday evening the site manager jerry was very helpful and let us choose our plot.
We walked to Conkers Saturday which was only a ten minute walk if that. Had a great time( the children went (barefoot walking). Came back to site and kids off playing on there bikes over to the park area situated on site. Used the laundry room which was handing to have (washer & dryer). Shower block very clean with plenty of hot water for showers and toilets that were always clean, nice family room which had shower toilet and sink with baby changing unit and baby bath. Will defiantly return. Thanks for a great weekend.

Just returned from a great few nights at Conkers. Facilities and welcome was good as we have found with all Club sites. Miles of traffic-free tracks just off the site some tarmaced allowing cycling, walking. Local Co-op (1 mile) to get a bakery in November. Ashby is a very pretty town,(4 miles) and has both a large Co-op and Tesco Extra. Visit Calke Abbey (NT) if you get the chance.

We booked at short notice, and arrived at 13.00hrs,.We have a very friendly welcome, and John took us to our pitch, which was nice and flat.
Another couple in the next pitch came and offered us a cup of tea, first time this has ever happened in UK,but quite a regular feature on Australian sites.
We found every thing so clean and tidy, and every one happy to help out in any way possible.
We will be coming back to this site again,as there was so much to do.
Our only complaint is that sign posting to the site off the A444,could be better,as we drove past the road end,and had to drive to the next round about to turn round as we were towing a trailer.Still,we know where the site is now,so won't do that again !!!!!!!!!.
Well done to all the staff, you made our weekend.

Not easy to find, caravan signs at the end of Moira road would help.
the assistant site managers were friendly & helpful.
The site is bleak with hardly any landscaping or shelter. It has rough, dusty roads & is poorly lit at night.
Shower cubicles were the smallest we have encountered.
Overall the site seems to have been cheaply built &/or badly designed.

Great site. Very clean, nice staff. We had a jumbo pitch for our large tent. You could have fitted about large 8 tents on it! it is pricey as you are charged per person and more for the huge pitch. However, as we have young children it meant that they had all the room they wanted to play, without interfering with any other pitches which was great. The park could do with a few more things for the kids to play on but what is there is good. There did seam to be quite a few noises at night but after a full day of playing we were too tiered to mind. There is a small town nearby so you don't need to lug all the food you need as long as you have a car. Would go again.

First time at this site and will definitely go back. Lovely clean site with easy access to Conkers. Great for cycling or walking and within easy reach of lots of places. Only critisism would be that the shower cubicles are a bit small but the water temperature was just right. No re-cycling facilities which was a shame. Chip van visited on Saturday night and were really nice and reasonable. Nice little play area for the younger ones. YHA next door which had a cafe, bistro and bar which you could use.

Friendly welcome upon arrival, staff were always helpfull and pleasent, facillites spotless, the childrens play area was excellent for keeping the little ones amused, at night the site was so quiet, you could just about hear the planes coming into 'east Midlands airport, the only thing i couldnt understand was why the family wash room was always locked, the usual shower cubicles were a little cramped for an adult and a child, besides that the site was spot on.

HAD A GOOD BREAK AT CONKERS IN MARCH! THE STAFF WERE BOTH VERY FREINDLY AND HELPFUL.THE SITE WAS CLEAN AND HAS QUITE AN OPEN ASPECT TO IT! GOOD SITE FOR CYCLISTS AS IT IS ALONGSIDE THE CYCLEWAY!THERE IS PLENTY TO DO AT CONKERS NATIONAL FOREST FACILITIES (WITH CHARGE) AND THERE IS ALSO A PUB THAT IS 10 TO 15 MINUTES WALK AWAY! ONLY FAULT I HAD WAS THAT THE SITE BECAME VERY BUSY ON FRIDAY, LOTS OF FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN EVERYWHERE, SO UNLESS YOU HAVE CHILDREN WITH YOU OR LOVE THE PRESCENCE OF CHILDREN,WEEKENDS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ARE BEST AVOIDED

From the outset the staff on our arrival were friendly, professional and very very friendly, they managed to get our four groups of family pitched together, Lovely clean site, aircraft noise is absolutely minimal, no noise whatsoever from the YHA next door, toilet facilities very clean, anybody who doesn't have a good relaxing break here is probably expecting more than reality, loved it, will definately be back, my family loved it so much we're going to make this gathering an annual get together thanks to 'Conkers'.
If you intend having a BBQ then look up 'The Butcher, the Baker and the Ice Cream maker at burton marina, they delivered to the site, the most fabulous quality bbq packs with rolls and salad, wonderful firm to deal with

An absolute gem.
We camped with two other families for the weekend, and to run Conkers parkrun in Conkers national park.
The welcome we had was brilliant. The campsite hosts were lovely, with a great sense of humor....we are still laughing!
The campsite was great, peaceful without being too quiet. The children had a lovely play area and there was no problem with them playing neat the tent.
The bathrooms and wash areas were so clean, just wondering if they could pop up to my house to clean ;-)
We found a couple of very friendly pubs within a fifteen minute walk, perfect for watching the Olympics!
Conkers National Park was lovely and just on the doorstep.
Everyone had a great time and we would recommend to anyone. Thank you.

First impression was definitely understaffed, wife running office with husband been run ragged outside showing everyone to their pitch. It is a very exposed site with little shelter from the prevailing winds, which when we were there destroyed 3 wind breaks.
East Midlands Airport is nearby and planes take off and land at regular intervals and are noisy and disturbing at night. Boy racers can be heard every night on local roads.
In the field behind the camp site there is a logging business and chain saws are heard and a dawn chorus with a braying donkey. The YHA is a neighbour and coaches arrive at 0500 hrs and leave their engines running whilst disembarking passengers. A reversing beep beep can be heard every morning from a nearby factory. If you’re a light sleeper then ear plugs are a must. Conkers Discovery can be heard during the day. There were 2 long stay camper vans whose occupants went to work at 0700 and 0730 hrs every day and drove their cars off site and woke everyone up. This is wrong, their cars should be in the visitors car park!!Electric points are poorly located, which means other campers drive over your cable, a strict NO, NO in my book (electrician). Mildew mould is evident in all showers. The ground is like bell metal, mainly dry clay and you will need good steel pegs (not plastic).
On the plus side the YHA does serve food and is licensed. The Navigation pub is under new management, dog friendly with a selection of animals for the kids to feed (20p for a bag of food). It is a shame but there is no daily paper service and it is a 40 min walk to the post office and back. This site desperately needs more staff and serious investment for ground works. 1 shower cubicle kept blocking and 1 toilets cistern broke for a week.
From our experience it is used by large groups 4, 5 or 6 units camped together for a weekend. Why advertise a family shower room when it’s constantly locked!!!!!
Cycling and walking opportunities are excellent.

Nicely laid out site with great and very clean facilities. Wardens friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately due to the recent wet weather the tent field was very wet but as we were only there 1 night it wasn't too much of a problem. Site very quiet due to weather so cannot comment on if showers get busy when site is fuller.
Right next door to the Conkers Waterside Centre which does have events held there. Big folk festival on whilst we stayed so lots of loud concert music until 11pm and then traffic noise and not so loud music and voices until about 2am. Site very quiet once this all ended though. Worth checking there are no events being held if you are staying at the C&CC site if this sort of thing is going to bother you.

We have just returned from spending the weekend at Conkers 8th-10th June one of the wettest and windiest weekend of the Year. All I can say is what a great! The site is immaculate the team there are really friendly and helpful. Considering it was wet and muddy you would not have known it when you walked into the toilet/shower block it was spotless.
The site is quiet but seems to cater for all; there is a nice play area for the children with a climbing frame with a slide and swings which my youngest child loved. It has great access to the national forest. The Conkers visitor centre down the road is well worth a visit.
The site is quiet open so would strongly recommend you take a wind break.

We stayed at Conkers 18th to 20th May 2012 and cannot say a bad word about the place! The cleanliness of the shower and toilet blocks really struck us as being suberb. We took our granddaughter and her friend who are both coming up to 14 years old and they loved it. This was our maiden "voyage" with our caravan and was a practice for longer holidays booked for the summer - we only live about 3/4 hour away so could easily go home should it have all gone pear shaped - but I can report with all honesty that all went extremely well. The staff at Conkers could not have been more helpful, we would definately recommend this site.

Visited this site in April for a week over the Easter holidays. Nice clean site but very open with little shelter. There had been lots of rain prior to the visit and still a bit on our holiday to be honest and the ground was VERY water logged - the only shoes to wear on site were wellies!!! It was a funny sort of soil too that did not drain well even though it was sloping. The only major problem with this site was that the toilet block has a key code on - why??? Every time you wanted to use the toilet you had to enter the code. As you can imagine this was very tricky for children. My eldest children are 7 and 4 and this was a really problem for them as it was high to reach the door code buttons and then for them to enter them in the right order hence them coming back to the van every time they needed a wee while playing on the park. To be honest the code was proving a problem to everyone. Could these code machines not be removed? This is the only site I have been to with the club that has these key code buttons and I ask why? I’ve been to club sites in Devon for example that are right on the beach and no codes are used there, so why here??? Yes, it is close a cycle path but not that close so come on C&CC please remove the codes and let everyone have a simple, happy holiday.

We choose Conkers for the first trip overnight for the 5 year old grandson (with his 9 year old caravan savvy cousin). He couldn't believe it when they were on the play area, we showed him where the van was & left them to it. The CCC advertising always goes on about experiences for children-"our" child had the time of his life. He doesn't do walking but was more than happy to go to the Navigation for the most monster chip he had ever seen (very big portions). The play area there is well by its sell by date but there is a fabulous one across the road.
Really close to Conkers so ideal for families but also good for older couples who take their bikes to explore.

This was our first camping holiday with our folding camper. We had a lovely weekend at this site. The facilities were clean and tidy and the staff very friendly and helpful. The site is a great base to explore the surrounding countryside including the local Ashby Canal. There are plenty of local shops/pubs within walking distance or a short drive. (donation given to the flower fund) This site was very family friendly and children were able to be children!

We had a lovely time at Conkers. It was our first time out with the tent and the welcome couldn't have been nicer. The toilets and showers were lovely and clean whilst the camp was peaceful. Lots of walking nearby and a very child and dog friendly pub (The Navigation Inn) just down the road. The dog walk area (which was handily right next to our tent) was brilliant - the dogs had a great fenced off area to run around in off the leads. We will definitely be going back again.

Stayed here last week, (Aug 2011), was excellant. Staff were really helpful and friendly and facilities were clean. There is a YHA facility on site which has a bar open all day and does food,(children eat free). Also an easy 10 min flat walk or cycle from the site to The Navigation Pub. Food all day here and childrens menu and play area with pets etc.

A spotless well kept site. Beautiful flower tubs all around. Staff friendly. Conkers is suitable for all age groups and abilities.
Whether you want a peacefull break to unwind or a stroll or a full days yomp out along the local walks, the information and local knowledge of the staff helps to plan your stay. Alot of information leaflets at hand and I must recommend the chineese which delivers to the site called Kim's.
Calke Abbey is nearby as well as Twycross Zoo,Ashby Castle,Moira Furnace & a gorgeous setting Lakeside tea rooms which we stumbled across whilst out walking.
This is our second visit to this site and it certainly wont be our last!

The welcome to the site and booking in was excellent. We were shown the pitch and the site facilities were explained very well.
The weather was very windy and the site was quite exposed to the prevailing wind. As the site is fairly new there was very little shelter from trees and shrubs.
A bonus was that the children had to make their own amusement, by playing games and riding bikes, as there was no play facility provided.
Despite being fairly busy the site never felt crowded and there was plenty of space between units.

Visited Conkers again and found the staff brillant we were a family group of 1 caravan and 2 tents ( 1 with ehu) and they grouped us together which was very good, friday fish and chip van is very good and value for money. The Navigation Pub close to the site is very good and the owners have transformed a dark grotty rundown pub that I first went in 2 years ago to a well run friendly pub with very good food and a great pub for kids of all ages. So Thanks to the staff and we will be returning again

Came back for a second time time this season because of constant badgering of young grand sons aged 2 3 and 5 who loved Conkers and wanted to see the new conkerchoo train . There is also a very child friendly pub only a short walk from site with lovely outdoor play area for children. In addition this time brought our bikes. As a couple in our mid 50's who have not been on bikes for quite a while found the cycle tracks brilliant and easy to follow with just a couple of hills but no cars .Great! Even discovered a short cycle to Donisthorpe for excellent pub lunch at the half way house .Area great for all ages and friendly wardens as well. We will be back!!

We are new to caravning and had a great week at Conckers. The two couples who run the site were friendly and the men were lifesavers, they basically leveled the van for us on arrival and took our awning down for us when it was blowing away while we were at the local pub on the second night.
The site is near some great attractions: zoo, Thomas Land, local village with swimming pool, and fantastic family friendly pub.
Family size shower could be bigger and but won't stop us going back. My family and I had a great time.

Just returned from a visit to Conkers for my 50th Birthday. The managers are new this year and have a lot to live up to but are doing a brilliant job so far, very welcoming and helpful. We all had chips on Friday night from the visiting chip van which were very nice. The walks around the area are numerous, we even walked to the new cycle centre which only opened this year.

As a new member, I found Conkers in the catalogue and the pictures looked great. The nearby discovery centre was a pull for me as I was camping with my 5 year old daughter. The campsite was brilliant, very secure, very clean facilities and a lovely atmosphere. My daughter made friends straightaway and I felt comfortable giving her freedom to zoom around on her bike with her new friends. The discovery centre is fantastic, I highly recommend the 'barefoot walk' which was hilarious, we spent the day there and could easily have managed another day if time had allowed. All in all a lovely weekend! Only tip = book early for electric hook up, and there is no shop so you need to be prepared, but the showers are great!

We were camping as a large family group, and the very friendly and helpful staff troubled to pitch us not only all together, but in an area of our own, which meant we didn't feel we were crowding other people.
Being sited right next door to Conkers adventure park was perfect for the children - and there was plenty of space for them to play and ride their bikes on site without risking upset to anyone else.
The nearest pub (the one within walking distance) was not the nicest, but there were plenty of child-friendly eating places within a short drive.
We had a smashing stay (despite bad weather - the site is very exposed!) and would definitely recommend it :o)

We wonder why everyone loves this site. It is a big field, sloping. The hosts were friendly and helpful but they did not reccommend the pub nearby. And why did the GPS insist we come in through the town. People staying here should consider visiting Caulke Abbey - very unusual National Trust property.

Spent two days here in our folding camper. Quiet site with very clean facilities. Friendly welcome, wardens in evidence throughout the stay.
YHA cafe/Bistro very close. Navigation pub do good value pub meals. Conkers within walking distance. Also lots of well marked walks/footpaths next to site. You will need to drive to food shops though. A few basics available on site. A reasonably flat site, lots of young trees around should provide more screening and shelter as they grow. Would definitely visit again.

Just had a lovely weekend here with my husband and three year old twin boys. The toilet block is immaculate and very warm. The pitches are spaced well apart from neighbours, so you dont feel crammed in. Even though they dont have a play park for the kids there is plenty for them to do locally. We took the kids balance bikes and it was a 5 mintue walk to conkers park (cant take bikes in though)on the footpath through the woods, so had no worries about cars. There is a youth hostel next door with a bar that does food, with outside seating, they had a family fun fete whilst we were there with bouncy castles, face painting and birds of prey plus other stalls. There is also a pub just a few minutes walk away with a wacky warehouse for the kids, we didn't try this out though, but plan to next time. A chip van visits on a friday night, which cooks everything to order. Have booked to stay again and cant wait.

We are new to camping and chose this site to 'trial' all out gear. The staff were friendly and the site is immaculate. So much so, we returned for a second weekend and are booked in for a third! We recommended it to our family who have also booked. Enjoyed Waterside (lots of evening entertainment) and the Discovery park (great for kids). Toilets and showers faultless and always clean (this is all we ask and they deliver). On an end note - Sandra, it was a pleasure to help with your tent, we will now be regular Conker Campers, you can get us a beer next time you are there!

Brilliant!!! It was our second visit to Conkers and yet again it didn't disappoint. There's lots to do in the area, near cities (20mins from Derby & Leicester) but yet in the countryside. Next door to Conkers Discovery Park - this is quite expensive - but plenty to do without having to pay, tons of walks and bike trails, perfect for kids. There's a Sunday morning car boot over the road and a fish & chip van that comes on site on Friday evenings. We love it there!

We arrived on friday eve, we had just brought our tent and had not had time for a trial run. We met two lovely ladies who helped us figure out how to put our tent up. Thanks to them without you guys we would still have been putting the tent up at midnight.
The facilities were spotless and the other campers were very friendly and took time to pass the time of day with you. I do agree that a small playground would be good for the kids.
The only downside to this site was that it seemed to be permenantly windy, however this can't be helped and I still enjoyed myself

Great site with very friendly and helpful staff. This was our first time out with our caravan and had forgotten our mallet for the awning. They were really helpful and found one for us to use. Really clean toilets and showers and plenty of room for our little one to wander around between picnic benches without us having to worry about her too much. Could do with a little play area for children to play with balls as there were a few children on site. Ideal seperate dog walking area is a bonus.

The site is alongside the YHA. The pitches are very well spaced and had excellent drainage. As a young family we felt very much at ease that we would neither be distrubed or that the children would distrub anyone else! The site is really safe with barrier entry and fencing all the way around the site. There is a new shower/toilet block including family room which was spotless, the site has new modern facilities for water/waste water. There are plenty of local attractions for children, Snibston is wonderful for all ages and is mostly indoors, so great if it's bad weather! If it's good weather lots of walks/cycle rides directly from the campsite.

Received a warm and friendly welcome on arrival. The site manager was helpful, he showed us to our hardstanding and gave us some useful tips as it was our first time out with a caravan. Absolutely spotless facilities and site is well maintained. Cleanest toilets and showers we've ever seen. I'm a clean freak so that's a real compliment from me. 10 min walk from site to Conkers Park. We were given discount upon presenting our c&cc membership card and receipt from site. 1 child free entry for each paying adult which worked out a lot cheaper than a family pass. Again, the site manager was very helpful, offering us vouchers and advising us we'd get a discount if we show our membership card. Not much on site for children to do but plenty to explore in the area. We took our two children (14 & 10) to the Swadlincote Ski Centre for the day. Good value for money and the kids loved it. We missed the chip van on Friday as we were too late getting back, however we did spot a chip shop in Overseal (a few mins by car or a short walk). The portions are huge, we had to split the small portion between 2 of us, I wouldn't be exaggerating to say the fish is a foot long. Visited a nice little pub about 10 mins drive from the site, The Shoulder of Mutton. Again, lovely and clean and good service. Overall, this is a lovely site but do agree, could do with a small play area. We would visit this site again and hope the new manager keeps up the excellent standards.

This is a lovely, basic site and extremely well maintained. It is suitable for everyone. Showers and toilets spotless. Pitches are well laid out and spacious. Well located on the side of Conkers forest, accessible from the site. Brilliant for walkers and great for walking dogs, with many trails to follow. There is also a youth hostel on the site which offers snacks and a bar.
Although there is a shop on site, unfortunately the site managers, Pete and Dawn are moving on to pastures new, so were depleating stocks, but had everything I needed at the time. Site well situated for days out, eg Burton-on-Trent and Rosliston Nature Reserve. Local Costcutter shop and chip shop about 5 mins drive away. Well located for local museums and attractions. Can agree with other reviews that it could do with a small play area.
Can I just say a personal thank you to Pete and Dawn for their professionalism and expertise, they made our stay a very enjoyable one and we knew we were in good hands.

Positive points: We stayed a week and enjoyed every day, even the wet ones! Loved the firework display! This is a superb Site in excellent condition, good roads on site, good number of hard standings. Well lit at night, quiet and peaceful. Never visited the Conkers Centre, being over 65 we do not "swing from or climb trees!" Good peaceful canal walk along to the Moira Furnace.
