I read the recent reviews and thought that I would point out that when I stayed last year I found the staff to be very friendly, although I was not a member staff were fine,I found the toilets to be very clean and adequate all be it they are not new,I found them perfectly functional, for those asking for new toilet blocks I would also point out that the site fees would be likely to go up to pay for updated facilities. Also I found outide taps, drains rubbish bins and recycling bins to be adequate,it seems to me that some would prefer glamping

What can we say about Canterbury Site
the welcome fantastic, the cleanliness is as good as they can it, the site wonderful. Why does this sound contridicting because once again the toilets let this wonderful site down. They are way beyond their sell by date they are cold, the showers far too small, no privacy cublicles and although the staff clean them spotlessly clean you can't help noticing the age. I have been told that they will be updated and as I have used this site many times because it so local especially in the colder months I will not use it again until the toilets are updated. The rest of the work done over the last few years is being spoilt and by reading other reviews I am not the only one complaining about the toilets. As this is such a busy site and good for the ferries for our european guests you could loose a lot of business. Other than that your managers and assistants are hard working, friendly and helpful.

Having read previous reviews went with an open mind! Site is fine, excellent location, bus stop just outside to city & further afield, easy bus route to coast. What lets it down are the toilet blocks, very old, cold & cramped, and could be cleaner! These need refurbing if anyone from club is reading this! Lack of waste water disposal points & no rubbish bins around site - environmentally friendly or just can't be bothered? Membership and site fees are not cheap and we expect more for our hard earned money!! Also thought it was called The FRIENDLY Club! Not the reception I received when checking in, definitely frosty to say the least. After a 4 hour drive at least a smile would have been nice!!

I stayed at this for a couple of nights with my friend during the summer holidays, I had been here for a holiday before when I was much younger and it was just as nice and friendly as I remember. We stayed two nights, the weather was absalutely gorgeous which made it so much better. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the site itself is lovely, a nice size, the showers and toilets were very clean and had adequate space in the showers. Our neighbours were very friendly, we had a large area to ourselves and just had the one tent next to us. It was a lovely short break, and although the town centre is so near you wouldnt know it as it was so peaceful and quiet. There is a bus stop literally two minutes from the entrance which is very useful for getting into town and back. It seemed very child friendly, there is a playground area just next to a small bit of woodland, I think the little bit of woodland is lovely and great for children to play in as they cannot get lost, and I remember having a lot of fun in it with friends I had made all them years ago. So altogether I would highy recommend this site to anyone.

I stayed at this site over the Christmas and New Year break paying high season rates and was disgusted to find the main toilet and shower block was closed, leaving only the very poor secondary block in use. Two out of the three showers did no more than dribble luke warm water, the whole block was heated by an inadequate fan heater hanging on the wall, and the hand dryer blew only cold air. The club is taking its members for granted.

I agree with most of the reviews as to the showers, one block closed which is silly as this is an all year round site.
The shower block had a tiny little heater that was not enough to heat the block and there is no privacy cubicles, the showers are quite cold and the floor when drying yourself is freezing making you really cold. The hairdryer costs 20pence which is ridiculous considering the cost of the pitches, should be free like the other club.
The bus is just outside the side which is really handy and the town of Canterbury is nice with lots of the usual shops, restaurants and theatres.
There is a barrier with a code which changes every monday which is a good idea, keeps the site safe.
the golf club is just opposite the road which is excellent for golfers but we dont play.
cycling is only on the busy road outside but the town isnt far away and the bus costs just £2.60 return for me, my husband uses his bus pass.

We've been coming here on & off since 2002 & like the site very much for it's close proximity to Canterbury. The wardens are always welcoming. However, the facilities are far from adequate for the price we pay to stay here. The showers are only just about warm enough & the cubicles very small. There is only one washing machine, which for the size of the site, is not enough.

Just enjoyed a 3 night stay at this great site made comfortable by the unseasonably warm weather. Its a great location to explore nearby Canterbury; modern shops in listed and leaning timber buildings. Whitstable; local seafood in trendy harbour. Beautiful Dickensian seasides at Herne-Bay, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, etc. So much to see we will have to come back soon. -
Hard standing pitches are well laid out and we were 'thoughtfully' directed to a good spot sheltered by hedge and trees, our dog particularly enjoyed early morning walks sending the local rabbit population scurrying in all directions, staff friendly and helpful throughout stay. This site would benefit from updating toilets (more showers) otherwise can't fault it! Thank you.

See previous review. I stayed after site manager moved me to a pitch further from the children. He advised me that a number of groups of schoolchildren stay throughout the year, and also stag and hen parties are catered for. I found facilities clean and adequate comparable to other sites. I enjoyed my stay in the end but will be wary if I booked here again, ensuring a pitch in a quiet area or book a nearby CL instead.

We visit this site several times during the season for a peaceful weekend break. This is a well managed site which is always clean and tidy. Always a warm friendly welcome.Let down a little by the toilet/shower blocks which, although clean are a little outdated with very small cubicles, low shower heads and a low flow. This doesn't put us off returning for an enjoyable stay.

Easy to get to. Canterbury one way and fields the other. I wanted a quiet break but have just arrived and found that this site is used every year by 100+ dutch teenagers who all evening screamed and shouted even past 11pm. Ring before booking to find if they are here unless you love noise. Otherwise its not a bad site. Will add further if I can put up with the noise for a whole week.

Though the site is set in a very good location the facilities in the shower blocks were often unclean, its very important to pick the right time of day to shower to make sure its clean and the water is hot, the push button showers seemed to only allow 4-5 seconds of water per push.
We had taken our two small children (1 & 4 years old) for their first camping experience but sadly our time on the site was ruined by a stag and hen party, we were surrounded by a group of 8 or 9 tents who were playing music and shouting well past midnight. Despite asking the party directly and talking to the warden very little was done to reduce the noise, it made for some very unsettled nights and obviously grumpy kids (and parents!) the next day.
I realise there won't always be selfish people to ruin things but it was made worse by the lack of support from the site staff. Overall a little disappointed with this site, if we tried it again we would clearly ask if they had any parties booked in and avoid at all costs if they did.

Just back from a 5 night camping holiday and this is by far the best site we have stayed at. Reading the other reviews i feel some are those moaning are just not camping material at all, book a B&B next time( remember please you are at the end of the day in a field) Anyhow.
1. fantastic staff Annie and Brian so helpful nothing was too much.
We were asked what type of tent pitch we required and were offerd various pitches and were shown each one.
2. We AGEREE 100% to have the rubbish placed near the exit, other sites we have been to have bins placed near water taps and then the site people have to drive around collecting (wasps and flys are kepted away ) . also when you leave the site you drive past the bins which are all well labled and tidy.
3. And now the shower blocks a small site with 2 blocks WOW. what is the problem with pushing a button for hot water.(at least its NOT coin operated) Always clean, and well lit.
10 out of 10 all round and we will be back.

This site can be whatever you want it to be. The staff pay close attention to placing people with families near eachother. Which resulted in lots of friendships being made. The place equiptment is great and the children were able to play in the wooded area near our tent too. Canterbury is a beautiful town with lots to do and this site is very close... but it really doesn't feel like it's near anywhere... Toilet blocks are great, clean and there are enough to serve the site. we went last year and chose it as our first stop this year in a run of camping trips :).

A site very close to Canterbury town centre though you would never know it. Toilets and shower facilities were spotless at all times and the showers were always hot. Canterbury town centre is a 5 minute drive away and is a great place to visit with many types of eateries.

My Husband and I visited this site a couple of times 5 years ago, and returned this time with our two young children for our first family camping holiday. The site was as lovely as we remembered it. The facilities were spotless, the shop well stocked, friendly wardens and a very well maintained site. We were pitched next to the childrens park at our request which was perfect for us to relax while making sure the boys were safe. The site is a perfect location to visit the lovely places of Kent, and also perfect for relaxing by your tent/caravan. Although there are lots of pitches, because it is well laid out it never felt busy or noisy, and we never queued for the showers. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

We have just spent a week on this site and found the staff welcoming and helpful. However, the main reason we have taken the step to review the site is the disappointing condition of the toilet/shower facilities. The showers were small and the timed flow of water was far too short and the showerhead too low. At the wash hand basins there was ONE soap dispenser for a number of basins. The (one) hand dryer was ineffective. During our stay on four separate days the soap dispenser in the men's toilets was empty. Overdue for a showerblock overhaul!

A good site that does need an update (would not cost a lot)but showers/toilets was always clean and
hot(busy site with lots of short stays would normally make this difficult).
Staff work hard and are helpfull and friendly, did not find any pitch that was hard to access although some did slope ,site was very handy for exploring kent but best to go to town on bus or bike rather than take m/home down.
The brass band on the Monday was good and something like this should happen more often.

I personally felt ashamed to be a member of this club with the plumbing akin to the third world. The club standards seem to be slipping some what. With the amount of european visitors to this site you would think it would be in tip top condition. You cannot blame the staff they do their best to keep it clean and tidy but who ever was employed to do an attempt at
plumbing must have been laughing all the way to the bank. What do I mean?
Turn on a hot or cold tap and water
buckets from the push fitting under the
washbasin. The showers were little better you often had to flattern yourself against the tiles just to get
wet.I could go on but if you are unfortunate to visit this site you will
known what I am on about.
I have been on lot's of cub site and this is the first site i have seen ragwort growing on a site i thought this weed was supposed to be eradicated as it is poisonous

We stayed here 3 years ago and enjoyed the site. I was really disappointed on our return that the few changes which had been made appeared to prejudice campers. E.g. The bins have been removed which means all rubbish has to go outside the site. This includes the washing up area so any food waste scrapped from pans has to be pushed down the plug hole. The site is still great with kids and quite peaceful but as a camper with a smallish tent it made life hard work.

The negative reviews about the site's shower/toilet facilities almost put us off booking, but I'm so glad they didn't as we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived for our 5 night stay. The warden showed us to a lovely open, grassy pitch that had the sun all day. We used the older toilet block and found it to be very clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. Yes, the sinks are small and the shower cubicles are not new - but I've found far worse in this country. It was easy to cycle into the city and I'm no athlete! Canterbury is a beautiful city, delightful architecture, clean streets, fab shopping and the cathedral is an oasis of calm in the middle of it all. It has a vibrant feel with the mix of young and old. We will definitely visit this campsite again.

stayed for a full week - although it was March the site was busy throughout the week but only the small toilet block was open - had to queue on 2 mornings for showers -only 3 in gents of which only 1 could be described as adequate the other 2 had almost no proper flow. Shower & toilet cubicles very small, hand basins tiny & the smallest shelf I have ever seen above the sinks - not really good enough. Couldn't fathom why the main block wasn't open - lights in it blazed invitingly all evening but no access - not very environmentally friendly. Cleanliness could only be rated as average at best. There were no dust bins on site as you now need to take everything up to a recycling point at the main gate which was untidy, the area is poorly lit and not all bins were available. All fire points were missing their extinguishers. Whilst it is early in the season this is an all year site and overall can only rate the facilities & service as poor - I would not use this site again.

This is a superb site, with very easy access to the delightful city of Canterbury. You can leave the car on site and walk or take the bus into Canterbury. There are several pubs for good eating within a short car ride, and there are many places to visit nearby, as well as Canterbury. We visited the coast around Whitstable and went to Dover Castle, among others.
Site is well looked after, although the facilities are a little old, but kept very clean.

Firstly - DO NOT USE the post code in your sat nav as it will take you 2-3 miles away.
The site is quite large and well laid out. It caters well for tenting, campervans & caravans. The site has surrounding woodland & most pitches are level. The main office is small but stocks the usual items. The site is managed by 3 couples who are very pleasant & always busy.
The site has 2 toilet blocks & whilst both were always clean, the one nearer the office is in better condition & has the washing machine/tumble dryer facilities. The toilet block at the lower end of the site is smaller & in much need of a refit. Both blocks have dish washing facilities.
The dog walk is in a woodland area & one of the nicer ones I've used at a club site.
There is a small childrens play area for young children which was in good condition but littered & one of the swings had extensive bird droppings on it.
Whilst it is generally a quiet site it is worth noting that you are next door to the Kent & Medway NHS & Social care trust site, which for some strange reason is used by Army Chinooks as a site to quickly circle, touch down & immediately take off again.
The site is only a 10 min drive from Canterbury itself or you can take the bus which stops right outside the campsite & takes you into town centre.
Overall it is a good site to use as a base to explore that part of England and also have a couple of relaxing days onsite having a BBQ. The staff are very friendly and helpful despite being very busy.
One word of caution - the site entrance is on a busy & tight windy lane which the locals go down at some speed. The lane at the the entrance narrows to just one & a half cars width so BE VERY CAREFUL when you pull out of the site because there is not room for 2 cars at once !!
If you want to have a holiday in the SE of England then this is a site worth considering.
