Recently stayed after both toilet blocks had been fully refurbished, what excellent facilities they have now. The newly laid out entrance is so ease to park and book in, plus the addition of auto barriers in and out. The office holds the bare essentials bread/milk and stuff, saves having to run into town. The bus stop just outside the side gate is a bonus, and whizzes you into Canterbury high street area.
Loved the site, we'll be going back.....

What a wonderful site. Staff, could not rate them enough, showers/toilets - just been upgraded and are fabulous.
Camp site was fully booked, but you would have never known it, the space they give you is fantastic, we were right on the dog walk, so perfect for our two dogs.
Bus stop to Canterbury/Sandwich, right outside
I can't wait to go back

Nice site with plenty of walking if you go beyond the orchard where there are numerous walks and were also told that if you go over the road and pass by the Golf Course they are lovely walks.
The one thing that annoyed us was the so called (CRAB AND WINKLE) cycle path which is supposed to be near the site, well we rode and asked locals but only ever found the Link which is mostly road,so gave up,not good for the kids. The Town itself is very rewarding, very old Town. Will be back

Spent a lovely (If Cold) easter weekend at CanterburyForget all the previous negative comments about the toilet blocks, the main one was newly refurbished and fantastic. It was really clean and the water in the shower was hot almost immediately, unlike some. The second block was due to close for similar refurbishment so all looking good. The hard standings make a big differerence to the site. It think it's a shame that all the camping field names, such as Poplar Tree and Park Lane have been painted out. Otherwise, excellent.

We stayed at this site for a long weekend. We had read the previous reviews but went with an open mind. Some of the previous reviews comment about the toilets, and whilst they are old they are spotless. The are in the process of upgrading one of the blocks so lets see how that goes. The site itself is slightly tiered but the pitches seem pretty level, the one we were on was spot on. The wardens were very helpful and you are given a little welcome pack with a map, and some takeaway menus recommended by the wardens as they deliver to site, I can recommend the Indian and pizza leaflets both very nice. The walk into Canterbury is down hill and depending on how fast you walk takes about 30 mins but if you prefer the bus stop is right outside the site and they run quite frequently. We will definately go back to this site again.

Been twice for weekends respite Nov & Dec, all staff I met were helpful & friendly, only problem I had was Rabbit, Rat or something chewing my power cable and most of it was in the hedge not on the ground the bit that was was chewed!!! but not all the way through. Reasonable distance to shower blocks etc, thank you two relaxing weekends

Nice site but we had a couple of issue. Our van is quite long so we were put on what was called a jumbo pitch. We prefer grass so it turned out expensive and there was only one. It was OK but at the back of other units so a bit odd. In fact we found we could have gone on any number of pitches elsewhere, especially if we chose hard standing. But we had been told we could not fit on a hard standing! Quite wrong, although some are a bit tight but we would overhang onto grass so no actual problem. And one assistant warden had an attitude problem regarding dogs. First rather nasty reaction in 40 years camping/ caravanning.

Great location for access by car or bus to all of East Kent and Thanet. The hard standings were great as was aceess to water etc.The sight itself was very clean but it was let down by the cleanliness of the facility blocks. There was black mould on some of the tiles and cobwebs behind doors and on window frames. The showers were very small and the trays were either ceramic or stainless steel, both of which were very slippery when wet. The timers in showers went off very quickly and the water didn't stay at a constant temperature. There did not appear to be any heating in the facility, very unusual for a site that is open all year The staff were couteous and helpful.

As temporary overseas member this was the first campsite we visited in England. We had a warm welcome and enjoyed our stay. Our two pet-dogs loved the dog walk. We used the chemical toilet disposal and the motorhome facilities (fresh water, grey water disposal) and found them clean and tidy. It was the perfect start for our England trip.

Arrived slightly later than planned but was welcomed at reception with a happy smile. The second day 2 large vans turned up and set up in the lower field with approx 18 bell tents, this would not have been a problem other than they were right in the path of all dog walkers as they were situated at the entrance to the dog walk. The next day coach loads of foreign students turned up to use the tents and by the following day they had filled the dog bins with normal rubbish and left both male and female toilets in a mess.I think that the site would be great to visit in quieter periods but cant really cope with peak season, especially when they kept trying to squeeze more and more people in over the bank holiday weekend.

Great location just a mile up the road from Canterbury.
Second visit to the site. First time we found the toilet and shower facilities a little tired (which is fine) and quite dirty. We opted to return as we like the location and on our second visit the showers and toilets were even dirtier than on our first visit (floors filthy, faeces on toilet wall, mouldy shower curtains). There was more body hair on the floor than on my body!
The wardens were friendly but seemed to spend most of the day sat in the sun drinking tea. Perhaps a little more time freshening up the toilets and showers might be a more worthwhile use of their time? When we complained about the state of the facilities they opted to do... nothing.
Having spent almost £30 for three of us to spend a night sleeping in our own facilities I would expect more. There is no excuse in 2012 for a camp site to provide spotless facilities.
To top it all, the water provided at the dishwash area was lukewarm - this is a food hygiene issue. Again, it was mentioned and nothing was done.

Site not cheap in peak season, disappointed with toilet block facilities- need updating but one soap dispenser and one hand dryer not sufficient. Also no rubbish disposal other than at site entrance. Never had a problem at any other site with wasps etc with bins located at each service point, and wardens only need to collect rubbish once a day. Otherwise site well situated for visiting the city of Canterbury and seaside towns.

A good site that is just a 20min walk or short bus ride from the city centre. Our hard-standing pitch was great, although hard pegs are required for awnings.
Staff were good, helpful and pleasant. The only downside were the facilities which are desperately in need of maintenance or refurbishment.

We enjoyed our stay which was very peaceful. Site was clean and very well maintained. Please CCC make it a priority to completely refurbish the the lower shower block. Although we were pitched right next to it we opted to go to the main block as our showers were mere dribbles and even I at 5ft 3 ins had to stoop! Other than that excellent site and service. Thanks

not going to harp on about showers etc other than small , quite hard to get in and out , and my wife was not amused when she tried to use the hairdryer , not working . Acces to the site if you use a satnav is difficult , and yes I now know it states that in the details , use the map , but if you go to Canterbuty and then set the satnav it brings you to the site on A roads , much, much easier and I dont have to rely on the wife map reading , less stress all round!! . perhaps worth a mention in the site details .
Overall the site is clean , tidy etc, quiet when we were there
and am aware that the site shower blocks etc will be upgraded in the future .
could do with more rubbish points .
would I use this site again ?, dont think so , but maybe if going to France

We stayed at this site during the first week of May 2012. We normally stay on CS’s but selected this site as it had Wi Fi, a dog walk and was near to Canterbury. On arrival we found the staff very helpful and although the site is large it is well laid out with lots of small areas and plenty of trees. The facilities, although old and in need of updating were clean and adequate for our needs. We found the dog walk to be one of the best we have found on a C&C site. Other club sites could learn much from this. The only down side was the lack of any usable Wi Fi, good signal but I and many other people found it impossible to get through the launch page. Although the Club has paid back the connection cost, it has left me wary of returning. Solution appeared to be to go and have a cup of coffee and get good free connection in the local city. A great pity the C&C Club do not learn from the local coffee shop as this Wi Fi facility should not only work, but be provided at no charge much as they provide other site facilities.

I found the welcome to be excellent, the site was very clean and presentable. I agree with some that the toilet/shower blocks aren't all that they could be but they were usable and were kept clean so I wouldn't want to complain too much! But if they were refitted it would really set the place off lovely. It was a 25 min walk from the site into Canterbury centre where there are shops and a Tesco Express for any last minute shopping needs. I'd defiantly return, don't be too put off by the toilet/shower remarks.

What can we say about Canterbury Site
the welcome fantastic, the cleanliness is as good as they can it, the site wonderful. Why does this sound contridicting because once again the toilets let this wonderful site down. They are way beyond their sell by date they are cold, the showers far too small, no privacy cublicles and although the staff clean them spotlessly clean you can't help noticing the age. I have been told that they will be updated and as I have used this site many times because it so local especially in the colder months I will not use it again until the toilets are updated. The rest of the work done over the last few years is being spoilt and by reading other reviews I am not the only one complaining about the toilets. As this is such a busy site and good for the ferries for our european guests you could loose a lot of business. Other than that your managers and assistants are hard working, friendly and helpful.

Having read previous reviews went with an open mind! Site is fine, excellent location, bus stop just outside to city & further afield, easy bus route to coast. What lets it down are the toilet blocks, very old, cold & cramped, and could be cleaner! These need refurbing if anyone from club is reading this! Lack of waste water disposal points & no rubbish bins around site - environmentally friendly or just can't be bothered? Membership and site fees are not cheap and we expect more for our hard earned money!! Also thought it was called The FRIENDLY Club! Not the reception I received when checking in, definitely frosty to say the least. After a 4 hour drive at least a smile would have been nice!!

I stayed at this for a couple of nights with my friend during the summer holidays, I had been here for a holiday before when I was much younger and it was just as nice and friendly as I remember. We stayed two nights, the weather was absalutely gorgeous which made it so much better. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the site itself is lovely, a nice size, the showers and toilets were very clean and had adequate space in the showers. Our neighbours were very friendly, we had a large area to ourselves and just had the one tent next to us. It was a lovely short break, and although the town centre is so near you wouldnt know it as it was so peaceful and quiet. There is a bus stop literally two minutes from the entrance which is very useful for getting into town and back. It seemed very child friendly, there is a playground area just next to a small bit of woodland, I think the little bit of woodland is lovely and great for children to play in as they cannot get lost, and I remember having a lot of fun in it with friends I had made all them years ago. So altogether I would highy recommend this site to anyone.

I stayed at this site over the Christmas and New Year break paying high season rates and was disgusted to find the main toilet and shower block was closed, leaving only the very poor secondary block in use. Two out of the three showers did no more than dribble luke warm water, the whole block was heated by an inadequate fan heater hanging on the wall, and the hand dryer blew only cold air. The club is taking its members for granted.

I agree with most of the reviews as to the showers, one block closed which is silly as this is an all year round site.
The shower block had a tiny little heater that was not enough to heat the block and there is no privacy cubicles, the showers are quite cold and the floor when drying yourself is freezing making you really cold. The hairdryer costs 20pence which is ridiculous considering the cost of the pitches, should be free like the other club.
The bus is just outside the side which is really handy and the town of Canterbury is nice with lots of the usual shops, restaurants and theatres.
There is a barrier with a code which changes every monday which is a good idea, keeps the site safe.
the golf club is just opposite the road which is excellent for golfers but we dont play.
cycling is only on the busy road outside but the town isnt far away and the bus costs just £2.60 return for me, my husband uses his bus pass.

We've been coming here on & off since 2002 & like the site very much for it's close proximity to Canterbury. The wardens are always welcoming. However, the facilities are far from adequate for the price we pay to stay here. The showers are only just about warm enough & the cubicles very small. Just enjoyed a 3 night stay at this great site made comfortable by the unseasonably warm weather. Its a great location to explore nearby Canterbury; modern shops in listed and leaning timber buildings. Whitstable; local seafood in trendy harbour. Beautiful Dickensian seasides at Herne-Bay, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, etc. So much to see we will have to come back soon. -
Hard standing pitches are well laid out and we were 'thoughtfully' directed to a good spot sheltered by hedge and trees, our dog particularly enjoyed early morning walks sending the local rabbit population scurrying in all directions, staff friendly and helpful throughout stay. This site would benefit from updating toilets (more showers) otherwise can't fault it! Thank you.

See previous review. I stayed after site manager moved me to a pitch further from the children. He advised me that a number of groups of schoolchildren stay throughout the year, and also stag and hen parties are catered for. I found facilities clean and adequate comparable to other sites. I enjoyed my stay in the end but will be wary if I booked here again, ensuring a pitch in a quiet area or book a nearby CL instead.

Though the site is set in a very good location the facilities in the shower blocks were often unclean, its very important to pick the right time of day to shower to make sure its clean and the water is hot, the push button showers seemed to only allow 4-5 seconds of water per push.
We had taken our two small children (1 & 4 years old) for their first camping experience but sadly our time on the site was ruined by a stag and hen party, we were surrounded by a group of 8 or 9 tents who were playing music and shouting well past midnight. Despite asking the party directly and talking to the warden very little was done to reduce the noise, it made for some very unsettled nights and obviously grumpy kids (and parents!) the next day.
I realise there won't always be selfish people to ruin things but it was made worse by the lack of support from the site staff. Overall a little disappointed with this site, if we tried it again we would clearly ask if they had any parties booked in and avoid at all costs if they did.

Just back from a 5 night camping holiday and this is by far the best site we have stayed at. Reading the other reviews i feel some are those moaning are just not camping material at all, book a B&B next time( remember please you are at the end of the day in a field) Anyhow.
1. fantastic staff Annie and Brian so helpful nothing was too much.
We were asked what type of tent pitch we required and were offerd various pitches and were shown each one.
2. We AGEREE 100% to have the rubbish placed near the exit, other sites we have been to have bins placed near water taps and then the site people have to drive around collecting (wasps and flys are kepted away ) . also when you leave the site you drive past the bins which are all well labled and tidy.
3. And now the shower blocks a small site with 2 blocks WOW. what is the problem with pushing a button for hot water.(at least its NOT coin operated) Always clean, and well lit.
10 out of 10 all round and we will be back.

This site can be whatever you want it to be. The staff pay close attention to placing people with families near eachother. Which resulted in lots of friendships being made. The place equiptment is great and the children were able to play in the wooded area near our tent too. Canterbury is a beautiful town with lots to do and this site is very close... but it really doesn't feel like it's near anywhere... We were pitched next to the childrens park at our request which was perfect for us to relax while making sure the boys were safe. The site is a perfect location to visit the lovely places of Kent, and also perfect for relaxing by your tent/caravan. Although there are lots of pitches, because it is well laid out it never felt busy or noisy, and we never queued for the showers. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

However, the main reason we have taken the step to review the site is the disappointing condition of the toilet/shower facilities. The showers were small and the timed flow of water was far too short and the showerhead too low. At the wash hand basins there was ONE soap dispenser for a number of basins. The (one) hand dryer was ineffective. During our stay on four separate days the soap dispenser in the men's toilets was empty. Overdue for a showerblock overhaul!

A good site that does need an update (would not cost a lot)but showers/toilets was always clean and
hot(busy site with lots of short stays would normally make this difficult).
Staff work hard and are helpfull and friendly, did not find any pitch that was hard to access although some did slope ,site was very handy for exploring kent but best to go to town on bus or bike rather than take m/home down.
The brass band on the Monday was good and something like this should happen more often.
Well worth a visit.

Great site with friendly team. Good open pitches but ask to see your pitch before accepting as some are awkward or near to camping areas (and thus tend to be more noisy). Lovely location, well shaded with trees and Canterbury is an easy bus ride away. Good as a transit site for ferries (30 minute journey away)

A nice site that wasn't very busy when I stayed there. The facilities were good and, although the toilet/shower block was a little dated, it was fine and kept clean. Very convenient for Canterbury (a nice walk or cycle ride but there's also a bus route just 100m from the site entrance which goes straight in to the city centre) with the lovely cathedral but also St Augustines Abbey which is also well worth a visit.

I personally felt ashamed to be a member of this club with the plumbing akin to the third world. The club standards seem to be slipping some what. With the amount of european visitors to this site you would think it would be in tip top condition. You cannot blame the staff they do their best to keep it clean and tidy but who ever was employed to do an attempt at
plumbing must have been laughing all the way to the bank. What do I mean?
Turn on a hot or cold tap and water
buckets from the push fitting under the
washbasin. The showers were little better you often had to flattern yourself against the tiles just to get
wet.I could go on but if you are unfortunate to visit this site you will
known what I am on about.
I have been on lot's of cub site and this is the first site i have seen ragwort growing on a site i thought this weed was supposed to be eradicated as it is poisonous

We stayed here 3 years ago and enjoyed the site. I was really disappointed on our return that the few changes which had been made appeared to prejudice campers. E.g. The bins have been removed which means all rubbish has to go outside the site. This includes the washing up area so any food waste scrapped from pans has to be pushed down the plug hole. The site is still great with kids and quite peaceful but as a camper with a smallish tent it made life hard work.

The negative reviews about the site's shower/toilet facilities almost put us off booking, but I'm so glad they didn't as we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived for our 5 night stay. The warden showed us to a lovely open, grassy pitch that had the sun all day. We used the older toilet block and found it to be very clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. Yes, the sinks are small and the shower cubicles are not new - but I've found far worse in this country. It was easy to cycle into the city and I'm no athlete! Canterbury is a beautiful city, delightful architecture, clean streets, fab shopping and the cathedral is an oasis of calm in the middle of it all. It has a vibrant feel with the mix of young and old. We will definitely visit this campsite again.

We, a family of 5, stayed at this very relaxing campsite in May 2011. We used it as a base for visiting Canterbury, Leeds Castle and some of the coastal villages. Perfect. Off course the weather was very nice at that time. This always helps when camping. All very well organized an a superfriendly staff.

Hi, Really great position and very nice wardens, the pitches are good sized and the site is very well positioned for visiting Canterbury and the rest of Kent either by car or by Bus, the only down side is the quality of the shower blocks they really do need some money spent on them and this would be a fantastic site.

When reviewing other peoples reviews I was open minded about their comments regarding the showers, and I'm glad I did not let this put us off from visiting this site. Our first time and will not be our last. A lovely, clean, spacious well looked after site. Our kids had such fun in the playground area and were able to ride their bikes around the site with no traffic worries at all. And do not be put off by other peoples comments regarding the showers!!! They are very clean and the showers were always hot!! The staff are always avaliable to help you in a willing friendly manner. Well Done Canterbury.

We couldn't find a fault with this site, except the site office (for daily paper collection) and mini-shop didn't open until 9am. Everything clean and well-ordered. Nice friendly staff. In the countryside but only 20 mins walk to Canterbury city centre. We will be staying here again... well done Canterbury!

A good site and one we have used frequently. The only negatives are the toilet blocks which are very dated. Small and cramped especially when the site is busy, and the showers (push button type) really need to be updated. Cleanliness could not be faulted however. The Site managers were very polite and helpful. A well maintained and clean site. One of our favourites.

Reading all the adverse comments about the site I wonder where all our money goes because it seems the club is not investing in the existing site network. I've been a member on and off for 30 years and the sites I visit haven't improved.

stayed for a full week - although it was March the site was busy throughout the week but only the small toilet block was open - had to queue on 2 mornings for showers -only 3 in gents of which only 1 could be described as adequate the other 2 had almost no proper flow. Shower & toilet cubicles very small, hand basins tiny & the smallest shelf I have ever seen above the sinks - not really good enough. Couldn't fathom why the main block wasn't open - lights in it blazed invitingly all evening but no access - not very environmentally friendly. Cleanliness could only be rated as average at best. There were no dust bins on site as you now need to take everything up to a recycling point at the main gate which was untidy, the area is poorly lit and not all bins were available. All fire points were missing their extinguishers. Whilst it is early in the season this is an all year site and overall can only rate the facilities & service as poor - I would not use this site again.

Lovely warm welcome. The site grounds are beautifully cared for and the staff are very helpful.
The toilet block that we were using however really doesnt meet the spec of most club sites that we have stayed at. The staff work really hard to keep it spotlessly clean but it is freezing cold, tired, cramped and rather unpleasant to use.

This is a superb site, with very easy access to the delightful city of Canterbury. You can leave the car on site and walk or take the bus into Canterbury. There are several pubs for good eating within a short car ride, and there are many places to visit nearby, as well as Canterbury. We visited the coast around Whitstable and went to Dover Castle, among others.
Site is well looked after, although the facilities are a little old, but kept very clean.
Great site for a few days.

Firstly - DO NOT USE the post code in your sat nav as it will take you 2-3 miles away.
The site is quite large and well laid out. It caters well for tenting, campervans & caravans. The site has surrounding woodland & most pitches are level. The main office is small but stocks the usual items. The site is managed by 3 couples who are very pleasant & always busy.
The site has 2 toilet blocks & whilst both were always clean, the one nearer the office is in better condition & has the washing machine/tumble dryer facilities. The toilet block at the lower end of the site is smaller & in much need of a refit. Both blocks have dish washing facilities.
The dog walk is in a woodland area & one of the nicer ones I've used at a club site.
There is a small childrens play area for young children which was in good condition but littered & one of the swings had extensive bird droppings on it.
Whilst it is generally a quiet site it is worth noting that you are next door to the Kent & Medway NHS & Social care trust site, which for some strange reason is used by Army Chinooks as a site to quickly circle, touch down & immediately take off again.
The site is only a 10 min drive from Canterbury itself or you can take the bus which stops right outside the campsite & takes you into town centre.
Overall it is a good site to use as a base to explore that part of England and also have a couple of relaxing days onsite having a BBQ. The staff are very friendly and helpful despite being very busy.
One word of caution - the site entrance is on a busy & tight windy lane which the locals go down at some speed. The lane at the the entrance narrows to just one & a half cars width so BE VERY CAREFUL when you pull out of the site because there is not room for 2 cars at once !!
If you want to have a holiday in the SE of England then this is a site worth considering.

The facilities were clean and people friendly, an excellent little shop. But the showers were poor. They were the push button type but the water only flowed for around a count of 5-7 seconds before stopping, not long enough to soap your face and wash it off, I would not have even considered trying to wash my hair.
