Many thanks to the very helpful and cheery staff, it was our very first trip and our first visit to a camp-site,we were very impressed with the standards of the site but the "Stars" of Alton were the staff who could not be more helpful, thanks.

Stayed over the bank holiday weekend. Friendly welcome and helpful staff who were always about if you needed them. Site full but plenty of space around pitch. Facilities excellent, never had to queue for toilets, showers or washing up and always very clean. Play area was the best we have found so far which suited big and little kids alike. Lovely pub in walking distance (3 mins with little ones), also fish and chip van on site on the Saturday. Plenty to do in the area if like us you were not visiting Alton Towers. Will definitely return.

Friendliest group of wardens I have ever come across after 12 years of caravaning. Yes I have been on sites where one or two were good but here the whole team could not have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful - a real joy. Thank you for a great stay, we shall be back. Location for walking and visiting market towns etc was perfect - good pub across the road too.

Booked in for two nights to meet up with family. I know the area well but never stayed on this site before or any other club site - we are members of a different club!
We left having joined and even had a song and dance performed by one of the staff on joining . We loved the friendly approach and relaxed atmosphere of the site. The site was more or less full but still peaceful and the facilities clean at all times .
We will definitely be returning very soon . Also had a great meal at the pub next to the site.

From the minute we arrived, we were all made to feel very welcome. The site staff were very friendly and helpful and the site itself was immaculate. We were able to pitch our tent next to the kids playground which was perfect for our 3 and 4 year olds. The toilet and shower facilities were warm and clean and the site had all the facilities we hoped for as 'first timers'. We had chosen this site initially because of it being a perfect base for Alton Towers, however, even if we weren't visiting there, we would still stay at this site. We can't praise the staff enough, one kindly donated a bottle of wine as we hadn't made it early enough to get to the shop on time, and another assisted us in not getting blown away whilst packing up the ground sheet in a gale! Our personal circumstances meant we may have had to have called an ambulance ant any time of the day or night. The staff once again showed how thoughtful they were by indicating which van to go to at any time if we needed vehicular access or assistance from them in the case of an emergency. Thank you all for contributing to what was a lovely weekend.

Just spent a fabulous weekend here. Found the staff to be exceptionally approachable, helpful and friendly. Especially when on arrival, after positioning our caravan in place, the clutch peddle on the car broke! The staff said we could store the caravan on site and pick it up when the car is fixed. This made us less stressed about the situation. That aside, we appreciated the spotless and hot showers. Excellent disabled bathroom. Great play area. V close to Alton Towers. Fantastic pub serving wonderful food barely 5 mins walk away called Ye Old Star. Definitely going again.

A group of 5 of us stayed in one of the caravans for 3 nights and 4 days, as this was only up the road from Alton Towers. The caravan itself was clean, tidy and very well prepared. The beds were comfortable, shower was fab. The weather had been awful just before we arrived and the Star folk had cleared all the roads and tracks of snow by hand, making the whole area safe. We not only had fun but were kept warm with extra heaters provided with no charge, a warm and friendly set of staff ever willing to help with anything, even getting hot food to your door from the appropriately recommended local curry house. Cheadle, Alton and other little towns are a stones throw, and if you aren'e willing to travel, the Star pub just down the road was also lovely. I would happily come here again and bring my friends as well as suggesting it to others. It looked beautiful with the snow, but I can imagine the summers are gorgeous. Enjoy!

We went during a spell of unseasonably cold weather, with a lot of snow on the ground, very cold and high winds causing a lot of drifting. Fortunately, we were in one of the site's static caravans. The staff went to a lot of trouble to keep us up to date with the weather situation before we went and had turned on heating in the static so we had a warm welcome in all senses of the word. They also made sure we had the static nearest the gates to minimise how far we had to drive over the snow ( too much snow for the grit to have kicked in yet!) The site is an ideal base for Alton Towers and the children's playground is unusually good for a campsite. The views from the site are lovely and we intend to come again when the weather is better!

A lovely campsite. We stayed there for the fireworks at Alon Towers which is very close by. The welcome and service offered by the owners was perfect. The play park was excellent and much loved by the children who we could watch from the window of the caravan easily. The caravan itself was perfect for families with bunk beds in one bedroom. Everything was clean and fresh. I would recommend the site to anyone.

We stayed in a rented static van as it was too cold during October for camping. The staff, site and facilities were really good, we couldn't pick fault with this site. The play area was great for the children too. We stayed here as it was only one mile from Alton Towers, so the location was perfect. I would really recommend this site and will certainly be returning in the future.

My family and I visited this site as we wanted a weekend away from the rat race. I have to say this is one of the best sites we have been to. The children's park facilities are outstanding, our kids loved it. The cleanliness of the place was exceptional. The shower blocks were very clean, unlike other sites we have visited. The space and the grass was well maintained. The site is very secure with a coded gate to get in and out. I would highly recommend this site to anyone and feel sure that they would be as impressed as we were. It is also dog friendly with dog walk on site.

Greeted by staff and shown to a pitch which was nice and friendly. The site was very quite on arival, we had forgot a few bits so asked if they had them in the camp shop on site but unfortunalty they dont really have anything in there, the times were from 11am which is no good when u need fresh milk for mornings.
I had a small bbq raised off the grass on a stand and staff came over very quickly to mention the flames (its a bbq) you cant help flames while its starting. They then came over again about half an hour later to tell us to turn music down which was on a portable speker on my phone so was not loud at all, and also baring in mind it was 7.30pm, then they blamed it on the other visitors complaining, hum.... When going to do the dished shortly after that the other visitors right near out tent, an elderly couple actually said it was lovely to hear some music and seeing people have a nice time. Dont get me wrong here folks, it is a lovely site, very quiet, and stricked, very clean. But a bit over the top on the bbq flames, music etc.... think they need to relax a little, 7.30 is far to early to tell ppl to turn music down when its not even that loud, after all ppl still need to have fun, we are all on holiday. Would recommend for elderly ppl or ppl wanting quiet time.

We visited Alton for 3 nights in September and were greeted by very friendly staff who treated us like royalty. We were given a choice of pitches and escorted to our pitch, which is done on a lot of sites but not all. The park is clean and tidy, the grass and hedges look as if they have been trimmed with scissors. The showers and toilets are spotless all day long. There is a playground for children which is the biggest we have seen on any club site. We consider this to be the best club site we have visited.
The site does not have any major problems which is not true of our experience when booking with the club call centre. We rang the call centre and tried to book Scarborough and were told there were no hard standings with electric left, the same applied to Slingsby, Citheroe and Teversal. When we asked about Alton we were told the same, but then the lady said she had found the last grass with electric pitch which we booked. When we arrived just after lunch on friday we were given a choice of grass or hard standing and where we wanted to pitch. On getting up saturday morning the site was less than a quarter full. If we had listened to the call centre we would maybe not have booked and the site would have missed a booking. We wonder if the other sites we tried were fully booked and they missed out on business. We are glad it happened in one respect because we were very happy we went to Alton, if anyone is looking for somewhere in that area GO TO ALTON.

What a lovely site this is We went so the kids could go to Alton Towers while we stayed on site to relax and that is exactly what we did, it is suprising peaceful & quiet. The wardens where helpful & friendly. The toilet blocks where well equipped and very clean. My only gripe is as with all sites they will insist on putting the toilets closest to the static vans that dont need them and farest away from the tents that do. Also both blocks where closed for cleaning at the same time which really didn't make any sense. The pub 5 minites walk is very nice and the food was freshly cooked and delicious although not cheap, worth paying that bit extra for, main meals ranged from £10-22 with starters & deserts at mainly £5 each. I really am looking forward to going again and would highly recommend it.

The staff were so welcoming as we were so past our expected arrival time due to traffic. Although a large site it was very peaceful and really clean. We recently stayed here for five nights and received a warm welcome on arrival. Only our second caravan towing trip and getting used to map reading not following sat nav. Fairly straightforward from motorway some steep roads which are a little nerve racking for novice tow-ers but only a small part of journey. Helpful staff at all times. Very close (walking distance) to a lovely pub with great freshly cooked food. Great access to Alton Towers . Shame it rained every night but will definately come back for another Alton Towers Trip

This is only my second camping expedition so the experience is still new to me. I was traveling with my teenage daughter and her friend. Only three nights and the obligatory visit to Alton Towers.
Friendly welcome and good clean facilities. The site does slope and we were given a chooce of pitches. We chose a relatively sheltered spot on the lower field, however despite being an empty field we were asked to pitch in a certain direction. Now being a "newbie" I didnt think to question this, but then spent the next three nights rolling down the hill! as the field was empty it might have been nice to have been given the option to pitch facing any way we would have liked, however this is partly my inexperience!
That aside wardens were very friendly and helpful, recommending destinations for showery days ( after we had done Alton Towers).
A bit disappointed not to be able to refreeze ica packs as the site is advertised as having this facility, and a slightly better stocked shop would have been nice, but maybe these are improvements for next season.
Great location, and lovely and clean and freindly, so overall would definately visit again.

Davies Family reviewed Alton, The Star Club Campsite...
Hi All,
We have just arrived home after a two night stay at the Alton Star site. I originally booked this via a third party web site for two nights camping, pitch only. On arrival we were met by Steve and Dawn in reception, who were extremely friendly and welcoming. I was shown to my pitch which was very level and by the tall hedge row boundary to provide extra protection from the wind..Steve gave us a choice of pitching where ever we liked but recommended this spot as the wind was picking up. We are a big family, four young children and my partner is pregnant. The idea of camping sounded lots of fun but as I was setting up the tent, the skies opened and it rained long and very hard for hours and hours. I decided to enquire about the static mobile homes and lucky us, they had one free for the two nights. Steve was happy to except the money I had already paid through a third party site and take it off the fee for the mobile home, which last minute I found to be very flexible and helpful. They really couldnt have done more for us to be fair, the grounds are amazingly clean, great little play area for the kids, all facilities are immaculate. My partner is a clean freak and massivley fussy, the place kept her very happy and that is recommendation enough!! We were visiting Alton Towers, and its litterally a 3 minute drive, just around the corner and you would never know its there from the campsite. I cant rate this place highly enough...this is the first review i have ever written so I dont make these statements lightly.
All the staff here were very friendly and helpful, so thank you every one at the Alton Star for a cracking few nights!!!
Oh and just to clarify the gates are locked for everyones security before midnight. We didnt have any trouble getting back in to the site at around 10 pm. Happy camping all!

As with most visitors to this site, we had planned a short trip to Alton Towers and this site is handily just a few minutes drive away.
The site itself is lovely - very well kept and the shower/loo block was particularly nice (love the automated heaters on the wall!!).
The site is on a slope but not so much of one that it's a problem.
The site owners couldn't have been nicer - they were absolutely great. So helpful on our arrival and during our stay (we decided in the face of torrential rain to chicken out and move to one of their statics and they were very helpful sorting it out for us).
I know the site has a previous reputation as being very regimented but I can honestly say that the new owners have struck the right balance between a well-run site and a great atmosphere.
I'd thoroughly recommend the site and will be returning ourselves.

Like many others, we chose this site because of its proximity to Alton Towers. Very friendly welcome. The duty wardens spotted us arriving and were already making they way towards us as we parked up. We were given a choice of pitch and all the wardens were extremely helpful and friendly. One warden even offered to open the shop after hours in case we needed to buy an inflatable bed for my partner's daughter, who joined us for a couple of nights as, due to the rain, we were put on hard standing rather than the grass pitch we booked. The 3 star rating for the facilities was because the site shop sold very basic essentials (nearest shops being c 4 miles away). Loo block was spotless with good showers. Felt sorry for the site as they had so many cancellations this weekend due to the bad weather, although it was a bonus for us as the site was so quiet!

Ignore all the bad reviews, this campsite is brilliant, it has recently been sold to the caravan and camping club, and since then they have totally changed the management, everywhere is clean, tidy and creative. There is a massive park for the kids and for everyone else there are breathtaking views and alton towers 1 mile away. The site management team are happy, bubbly and friendly, always willing to help. It is 100 times better than it was under old management. I totally recommend you coming here, the pitches are nice the facilities are excellent and the her caravans are perfect. we stayed on this site last summer as our daughter wanted to travel the country and visit theme parks. we arrived with our very large tent, the staff in reception were really helpful, offering us our choice of jumbo pitch. once taken to our pitch, we changed our mind and were instantly taken to an alternative which was quite isolated. we were given all the necessary info about the facilities so we didn't have to wander around to find things. the facilities on the site are excellent, very clean toilets and showers. tumble driers were really handy as we got soaked at alton towers. there is an excellent little pub at the bottom of the bank, lovely food and really warm and welcoming. i have just booked to stay here again in july 2012, another trip to alton towers and go ape is only 25 miles away. great camp site, looking forward to staying again

A group of friends and myself stayed at this site for 3 nights in June 2012. The site were brilliant and accommodating with our requests. The wardens were really friendly and chatty. The self catering caravan we stayed in was immaculate and even blankets were in the wardrobes which was good as the evenings were a little chilly. No complaints about the 'van and within 5 mins drive of Alton Towers (our main reason for the choice of site) As with any other club site, I would not hesitate in recommending this site or returning, I'm already planning a return trip next year!

Just arrived home this evening (12/06/12) - from the moment we arrived all the staff were very friendly and chatty. We were given a choice of pitches and not just told where to go, and a member of staff guided us to the pitch with a smile and a chat even though it was raining heavily.
The site is extremely clean and tidy especially the toilet/ shower block and dishwasher facilities. These were kept pristine at all times. The grounds were also very well tendered to, on a daily basis staff were either cutting the grass or pruning bushes and plants.
The staff were extremely accomodating to our needs which helped to make the break away more pleasurable.
The site is only 5 mins drive away from Alton Towers and only just over an hour from Drayton Manor.
This is the second visit from our family and we will definitely be returning and highly recommend the site to all.
Many thanks

We came here with the intention of visiting Alton Towers theme park and waterpark, site is only 5 mins from park. When we arrived on the Friday, in the pouring rain, we was booked in by the very helpful staff. We was shown to our pitch by the friendly warden who recommended one of the lower pitches to avoid the strong winds, he guided us as we reversed onto our pitch. We had a hardstanding pitch which was spacious and level.
The site was very clean, spotless in fact, the staff are a credit to the club. The facilities were very clean with nice warm showers. Despite all the rain that week the site looked immaculate. There is a lovely pub just down the road, which serves very good food. We shall definitely be coming back.

Nice site but halfway through our stay half of the facilities ( the ones near us ) were closed without warning.
We were happy with the pitch because we were away from everyone else (4 small children) a long way from the toilet block nearest us not a problem because we could still see the children as they set to the block.
We would never have booked this expensive site if we had been told the site would do this to guests halfway through the stay. The reason given was that they are not busy enough ..... it is half term and very lazy to close a such a small toilet block IMO.
So unfortunately, avoid. (Missed a club house also).

What a fantastic site. We arrived and was completely shocked by the amount of staff there was in reception, it was changeover time, all had a great sense of humour, funny and a good group of people. We always seen the staff busy painting fences and doing jobs, always with a smile, polite and had their sense of humour. We had a choice of where to pitch and we opted for the upper field as for camping it was closer to the facilities. The field was immaculately maintained as was the whole site - it can be windy as it's a top of a hill but didnt inconvenience us. The facilities were a bit on the small side but very well maintained and cleaned. We never had a problem using the showers although if full to capacity can see this being an issue. The childrens play area was always busy and looked great fun, again well maintrained and surrounded from the road by fencing - kids would love it.
A great experience thank you so much and hope to see you again.

This was our first time caravanning and we chose this site because it wasn't too far for us to travel. The site personell couldn't have been more helpful. I had never reversed a caravan before and with their supervision they made it easy for me. The facilities where excellent and very clean. Pity we can't say the same for the weather as it was probably the worst weekend of the year. This will not put us off and are looking forward to our next outing. We will definately be using Camping and Caravanning club sites again in the future and would recomend them.

Our first time out this year with our new caravan and we chose this site so our two teenagers could have a day at Alton Towers. Staff very pleasant and helpful and we had a choice of pitch. First morning the showers were cold however there was plenty of hot water the following two mornings. Another waste disposal point at the bottom of the site would be useful as it was quite an uphill trek from our pitch.

We picked this site because of it's nearness to Alton Towers. On arrival (we were rather late :-/ ) the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. This was our first experience out with our campervan and the first time we'd used a member site. The staff's patience with our mistakes was great and we learnt much from them as to what is expected. Many thanks for that.
The site itself was immaculate as were the toilets and showers. It was a true pleasure to stay there and we will be back (on time this time!) for another visit.

Tried this site as a 'tester' for 4 children 3,5,8&9 in a tent. The site is very well looked after, the toilets are spotless, and the kids thought the playground was great. The weather could have been a bit kinder (freak snow storm - not what you expect in March!)but that's not the campsite fault, it still was a very good experience. Although we only stayed overnight and did not have a chance to explore the surroundings it did look a little in the middle of nowhere, but if you wanted to visit Alton Towers or have a relaxing holiday, we would certainly recommend it.

I go there every week end in my own static caravan. I like to play on the play-area, skate around and just have fun, at Alton The Star I can, helpful staff, Alton towers 1 mile and a quarter away (we have an Annual pass), lovely cleanliness and great facillities especially for tourers and campers. I enjoy my Friday going because I have lots of friends that I have met, I go and see the bourses and I love to play there. I hate going home on a Sunday because it means I have to wait an other week before I go back again. They could have more fun stuff like a pool, fishing lake or maybe even a suvenire shop. I would love to see more people there and I carnt wait until I may see you who is reading!

Being new to Caravanning, we did not realise half term was not low season, and booking was advised Despite initially refusing our request, staff were still able to book us into the site for the 6 days we required once we explained we were "newbies" We received a very warm welcome, and the staff could not do enough to help us. The site was spotlessly clean and tidy. There was an endless supply of hot water in the showers and heaters for when getting out! The children loved the play area. It is an ideal site for Alton Towers. We will definitely be returning to this site. A perfect start to our Caravanning life!

We stayed at the site purely to visit Alton Towers. We really only used the site to sleep and shower! The shower/toilet block was lovely and clean and warm whenever we visited. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and there was no noise from the site other than the sounds of cows first thing in the morning! We would visit again, maybe for longer so we could see the area

Firstly the positives.
1. Toilet block has been the most impressive I have seen since being a member.
2. Playpark for young children looked fab.
3. The site all round was kept clean and tidy to a very high standard.
4. 1.4 miles from Alton Towers.
Now the negatives.
1. Other than for visiting Alton Towers, can't see why we'd visit this campsite again.
2. Currently ground works being undertaken, extremely noisey and we weren't able to relax at all, would've been nice to be warned so that we could've made the decision to go elsewhere.
3. Restrictions from walking in certain areas of the park (private statics), yet I saw a couple walking round the whole park with their dogs from the restricted site.
4. The park is right next to the main road into Cheadle and was at times extremely noisey with large vehicles moving.
Overall - if all you want to do is visit Alton Towers and hang around the campsite on the playpark, then this is the place to go. Other than that, think twice.

A two day stay last year was £14 this year it'll cost you £44, This is still a first class site and I am very unhappy to now take my business elsewhere. A very unhappy Camper!!!

I have been going to this campsite since 1987 and its fantastic. This was the first year I had gone with my 3 children and we stayed in one of the beautiful static caravans right next to the playpark area and I cant recommend it enough. Briliantly handy for going to Alton towers and very reasonably priced. Caravan was very clean and the facilities anr second to none, I highly recommend this caravan park.

From the moment that we first arrived at the site, the owners could not do enough for us. We were escorted to our pitch and guided on. Being new caravaners this was extremely helpful.
The site facilities were pointed out to us whilst being escorted to our pitch and were very clean and functional.
The children's pay facilities were excellent.
The only thing, and it is a small point, was the pitch type of hardstanding was a little like a car park. But this was due to making a late booking and to be completely honest did not detract from our stay.
Overall an excellent break at a very excellent site.
Will certainly return.

Returning to camping after a break of 22 years we had a two night 'tester' weekend here with our new tent and we couldn;t have picked a better site...absolutely fabulous. From the moment we arrived (early, but no-one minded too much) we were shown every kindness and consideration by the staff. The gentleman who escorted us to our pitch was very helpful and informative, even to helping us choose a pitch with the nicest view. The shower and toilet blocks were pristine and the water was constant and hot. We found the site to be relatively quiet, some traffic noise could be heard from the road but nothing too intrusive and it certainly did not detract from our enjoyment. The children on the park were well catered for in the 'something for all ages' playground and we were completely undisturbed by their play. The shop is small but basics are catered for. We spent a very enjoyable day at the nearby Sudbury Hall, with it's Museum of Childhood and would recommend it for entertainment value.
All in all we had a great re-introduction to camping and will certainly re-visit The Star at Alton again in the future. Many thanks to all who made our weekend so enjoyable.

Excellent site, very friendly welcome - excellent facilities.
We visited for a couple of nights when going to Alton Towers. Excellent location - only a couple of minutes drive from the entrance.
Nice quiet site. Fantastic play area for the kids - which is locked from 9pm. Can be noisy if near the play park - but not a problem.
Facilities seem to have just been refurbished, some other work improvement work going on at the moment but not disruptive. Facilities were excellent.
Maybe a canopy over the dishwashing facilities would be an idea - we were fine because it was dry weather but don't fancy doing dishes in the rain.
Definitely a site to be recommended.

My daughter-in-law booked this caravan site because it is close to Alton Towers and she thought we would all enjoy a long weekend break there. After she told us about booking a static caravan i went online to find directions as to how to get there. I eventually started to read the reviews and i was really shocked to know that this was going to be the "holiday from Hell". The reviews were not very encouraging to say the least. When we arrived we received a great welcome and were shown to our static caravan. The two grandchildren loved the play area. They are 9 and 12 years old. The site was well laid out and well kept. We could not fault it at all. I understand the caravan club now run it so this maybe explains why the reviews were so bad previously. To anyone going to stay in that area i can honestly say you will not be disappointed if you go to this site. Full marks and thankyou to the site managers for making our stay there so enjoyable.

Stayed at the site for 3 nights so that we could visit the nearby Alton Towers resort for 2 days (needed this time to "do it all" as it is quite big and queues were long, though the early entry by booking online helped alot). This site was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. We had a choice of pitches, either in a separate tent field or on the main field, we chose the latter. The site is sloping, though there are a few level pitches. The toilet/showers were absolutely spotless and no problems with waiting or availability of hot water. The site was very quiet during the day, bit more activity in the evenings when people returned (from Alton Towers presumably) - still a haven of peace after a busy day at the park. Good children's play area to suit all ages, including a ping pong table (which our elder two liked alot). A pub, the Star is a few minutes down the road and I recommend a visit there. It's very pleasant, really excellent reasonably priced food with very friendly staff (and child friendly) - we had Sunday lunch there, which was great. Overall an excellent stay and certainly would return to this lovely site if visiting Alton Towers (it made a great break), though the Derbyshire Dales are on the doorstep too.

Plus points - very well kept site, friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities and very close to Alton Towers. Has a good children's play area which is a plus for families with young kids. The site is also a short walk away from the nearby Star Inn, an old and characterful pub which also does food. There are also one or two other food pubs within a short drive. Minus points - the onsite shop is very small and modestly stocked, and doesn't open until 9am. So unless you have electricity and a way of keeping milk cool - or you are a late riser - then there's no way of getting milk for breakfast. The site is also surprising noisy for its location. The camping field is very close to the road, and there is can be traffic noise even through the night. We had broken sleep on both nights of our stay. Overall, a nice site and ideal for visits to nearby Alton Towers.

Had an excellent stay at the Star. Can't fault the staff, they were most friendly and very helpful. The site is having a massive facelift with new electric pitches etc going in so they were a few areas not quite finished. The kids loved the park area.
If I had a grumble it would be the fact that my daughter could not reach the lock on the toilet block so everytime she wanted to go she had to come and fetch me to take her, which was slightly annoying at time.
A lovely site and with in easy access to all surrounding areas. A pub down the road which we found to do nice pub grub (no childrens park though).

excellent play area which our daughter had a whale of a time in even after a day at Alton Towers. Toilets and showers are very clean and heated, you can even plug your own hair dryer in. Could do with a few extra hooks in the shower cubicles as I ran out of space to put things.

We were welcolmed by the managers and shown to a pitch, there is alot of work going on, on the site but it did not interfer with our stay. When I asked if there was a shop on site one of the assistants said no not yet, he asked what we needed and he phoned his wife and asked her to collect it on her way back to the site - excellent. We have been using this site for over fourteen years and have watched it develop. The facilities have been increased and upgraded as the site has grown in popularity. The one thing that has been consistant is the no nonsense approach to rowdy behaviour which is dealt with immediatley making it a truly family orientated site, which is also suitable for anyone wanting to enjoy a quiet stay.
Obviously Alton Towers is the big local attraction, but The Star is a good base for walking being a short drive from Dovedale and The Manifold (for walking or cycling), or a few more minutes away is the start of the Tissington Trail. The only drawback to the site is the lack of a shop on site, though Gaz supplies are available.

As a family we visited this site in June 2010 with the general plan of visiting Alton Towers. Having spent too long putting up the tent in the rain we sat down to a nice BBQ. We had a good welcome and the site was gated. Some young lads started messing around in their car around 10.30pm and the warden removed them from the site and came round to check we were alright. The site is very large with plenty of room to spread out. The site is sloping but was well drained. It was good value for money. We are planning to revisit this year
