Just arrived back from a 2 night stay at Winchcombe. We were made very welcome and the hosts were very accommodating. The showers and toilets were exceptionally clean which can't be easy when fully booked so all credit them.
A couple of negatives though - push buttons in showers only lasted about 30 seconds - it would be nice to not have to stand pressing the button all the time when washing your hair.
Also the road along side the site is very busy day and night and the sound of the traffic carried across the field which woke us up more than once.
I would go back again because it was a lovely place to stay - maybe take ear plugs with me next time!

Stayed for three nights at this site part with the photo group part on our own. The staff running this site are all first class and run a great little site very clean and pleasant so many thanks guys.
Some nice walks direct from the site all on farm land. The small lake on site adds to the attraction so does the well equipped toilet block. Quiet spot so a good nights sleep is always on the cards.

Just go there, it's a wonderful place. If you don't go for the site then just go to meet the people who run it, Ian and Sue i believe and the others. They are just wonderful people and can't do enough for you.
Facilities are so clean and modern. It was a treat for us to be there.
Games room on site for the kids and the Gardeners Arms about a mile away.
Go and enjoy the experience, we did.
The staff should be proud of themselves.

This was our first break away in our new motorhome. On arrival at site we were greeted by the friendly warden who, in an unexpected downpour lent my husband a waterproof jacket and took the time to escort him around the site, explaining the motorhome service point and which pitch he thought would be suitable for us. The site grounds, toilet/shower block and reception were immaculate. Having been caravanners for many years this is one of the best sites we have visited. We have already booked our return visit in a few weeks time.

Have just arrived home from our 1st trip in our Motor Home 23rd-25th November 2012.
We purchased a Motor home last week and join the club, (we used to caravan 1977-1985.)
We chose a site just a couple of hours away from home for out 1st trip and to learn the ropes.
We chose Winchcombe as it opens all year and easy to get to via M4/M5.
We were more than surprised at the very warm welcome we received on arriving and being shown (even thought it was pouring of rain) to our pitch. Sue had to help me plug in the electrics even though I have practiced at home in the drive ( the flip lid only goes back 45 degrees not 180 )
The biggest surprise was the cleanness of the facilities, they was spotless..
If this is the standard of all the sites then my wife and myself we be motor homing most weeks of the year.
We had a lot of rain last night and the lake was bigger this morning than when we went to bed.
I am still not use to being wave at by other motor home drivers but I am sure I will catch on..
Thank ‘s to all the Winchcombe Staff.

Superb site which is really well looked after by the friendly and helpful wardens. Good, clean facilities with a centrally heated facilities block - essential in November! Little touches like the hand wash at the chemical disposal point very welcom. Lovely scenery and local towns with easy access to a number of walks in the surrounding Cotswolds. Possibly the best dog walk area (10 acre fenced field!) we have come across at any site we have visited. The fishing pool with resident waterfowl at the centre of the site provides a nice focal point. Looking forward to a return visit.

An excellent site, well managed and cared for by the wardens - who adopt a very realistic approach to making sure the site works for everyone. They reflect totally the ethos of the Club - Friendly!
Local Pub offers a benefit / discount whilst you are resident at site - only thing was I did as instructed and showed membership card on arrival and then assumed a discount would be applied - it wasn't! Never mind, have to try again next visit!

Arrived Sat 27 Oct for 1/2 term with other members of family. Greeted by very friendly/efficient wardens who had accommodated our request to sited in close proximity to each other. Unfortunately due to the weather the site ground was at saturation point and a couple of further heavy downpours had no where to go making many pitches waterlogged/flooded. An excellent site for exploring the Cotswolds and it is regretful that the club will not spend any money filling in the 35+ potholes (which get worse after every rainfall) on the main roadway. Added to this the fact there is no lighting ...a few members tripped/fell into these holes at night. When asking the Assistant Warden if they had some gravel to fill in these holes, he replied by saying the club will not spend any money on the roadway. He added that they have requested several times for lighting and road repairs but to no avail. I fear it will take a broke bone/litigation to remedy this...come on club spend some money on this site..

We arrived here after a good journey from Yorkshire at lunchtime. The wardens were on duty and soon had us on a wonderful pitch overlooking the fishing lake. This is fenced so no danger. The dog walk was a bit muddy but arn't they all at this time of year. all other facilities were spotless and warm. We would certainly recommend Winchcombe for touring the Cotswolds. Only downside for hubby was we had to get in the car to go to the nearest pub!

Arrived on the Friday for a Birthday weekend with two other friends. We were given the warmest welcome and shown to our pitch. The views were fantastic and the dog exercise areas were basic to us two legged beings but amazing to our four legged friend. The staff were there when we needed them but blissfully left us to enjoy our break. The site was immaculate and we found nothing to fault. The local pub was a short walk off trek and welcomed our pets. As it was the end of the season we were told there was no rush to leave which gave us another "day" to our break. We will definitely be back and would recommend this site to all. Thank you for a wonderful Birthday.

Arrived on the Sunday lunch time to find the reception locked and no one around. After 5 mins one of the staff turned up and said that he would be a couple of minutes which he was. A swift booking in then off to the pitch following a happy chappie on his bike. All the rules and facilities where explained to us in a very clear and happy manner. We got the tent pitched and decided to have a walk around site to see what was what. Afterr a walk through other pitches we found the only toilet block at the top end of the site.
Thought about fishing (had brought maggots with me) only to find out that you had to pay to fish (no mention of this on the web site) even though the fishing was for residents only. Once ight fell it was very hard to see around site as there was no lighting on the road and as mentioned before no layout to footpaths and had to walk through other pitches.
The site could do with an extra toilet block at the bottom end and designated footpaths that are lit.

We have been members of the Caravan Club for a while but earlier this year having perused the web site, I joined the club. We tested the club out when we arrived at lunch time on a hot, sweltering day with a caravan and a motor home in front of us and we partially blocking the access with our Bailey Olympus 2. 530/4. Despite the air con in the car we were hot and bothered but the Winchcombe staff epitomised the 'cool/ cucumber. Firstly a fellow in a red jersey guided me (Sue) as I was in the driving seat for this final stretch, forward so I was not obstructing traffic despite I was now positioned ahead of the other two vehicles. He then spoke with the owners of the other two vehicles like a diplomatic corps veteran. The booking staff had us all booked in in double quick time with a smooth efficiency we'd not previously encountered and then the staff offered us a choice of pitch. We opted for a lakeside pitch and a staff member, despite the obvious pressure, smoothly guided us in to a delightful spot.
The level of personal attention in difficult circumstances was above and beyond the call of duty. In terms of the vernacular we were; "Gob Smacked". We'll certainly be back. Meanwhile we've just swopped our Olympus for a new Bailey unicorn pamplona, and will be trying out other sites over the winter. God bless all at Winchcombe and if other sites prove as friendly as Winchcombe staff we'll be booking a lot more sites for a mega holiday next spring and Summer.

Ended up here at the last minute but so glad we did. Site team did a great job keeping the place clean and tidy. Very peaceful (apart from the odd combine harvester) - our pitch backed onto the small lake. Dog walk is excellent apart from having to walk through caravans to get into it. There is also a separate field for exercising your dog - brilliant! Will definitely go back.

What a great site. All staff so firendly and helpful. Really generous pitches. Would definately come here again. Really handy for NT properties as well as places such as Cheltenham, Stowe, Bourton etc. A fabtastic Cotswold site. Farmer harvesting was a bit noisy but, hey, it has been a tough year for them and he needed to take advantage of the sunny (yes sunny) weather. You need to put this site on your 'must visit' list.

We've just come back from a fantastic week, even the weather behaved itself, the staff are fabulous, the Managers left on the Monday to oversee an Olympic site for 5 weeks, but not before doing all she could to help me find a B&B for a family member who wanted to join us, so helpful nothing was too much trouble. The site is so well kept and the fishing lake was a hit with our daughter, who caught the biggest fish!! Only one thing to mention, is there is only one chemical waste point at the top of the site, so a long walk for the hubby! But all round Great site great location, we will be back x

Arranged a stop-over at short notice over the phone and Sue was extremely helpful. We were accompanied to our hard-standing and made to feel very welcome. At 5 o'clock, tea-time we were visted by about twenty ducks who almost wanted to get into the motorhome for tea with us! The wildlife here is great to watch, ducks, coots, rabbits etc. The lake is peaceful and lovely to stroll around. We were so taken with the site we extended our visit for another four days. A small but handy shop, very clean showers and toilets, great play area for kids and even a games room for when the weather is wet. An excellent attitude by the park rangers. I'd read the other reviews and was expecting something out of this world so I guess I was a bit disappointed but actually it did do everything it 'said on the tin' so I can't complain. The welcome we got was second to none and it was amazing to be greeted by name each time I saw the chap who had checked us in. The parent and child room was really handy and everyng was so clean. The pitch was absolutely huge and luckily the tent survived the afternoon storm which left a moat of water around us. To be honest we chose a few days of dreadful weather which did dampen our spirits a bit but the site was fine, just a long way from any civilisation. The shop was a bit basic (especially after the last place we stayed where there was freshly baked bread) but given the space they had a good stock of stuff. My daughter enjoyed the play area and met new friends so if she was happy then so was I. Next time I think I'd plan my wet weather strategy better but this was no fault of the campsite, purely my thinking that June would be hot and sunny!

Arrived on a very hot Friday evening with a hot and bothered 8 yr old in tow! Reception staff VERY helpful and got shown to pitch in minimal time. Information on shops was readily available and extra directions given if you needed them. The grounds and pitch were immaculate and are a credit to the site staff, who obviously work very hard to maintain a VERY high standard. Chemical toilet facilities are the best we have encountered so far at any site. They were spotless, not smelling (despite hot weather) and had sanitising soap and hand drier available to clean up afterwards. Showers were amazing, can not fault them anywhere. Our son had a great time playing and investigating the lake (which he wants to fish on the next visit). However, the only slight grumble we would have would be to have a zip wire or similar for the older children to play on and interact. Overall, an excellent site and will definately be visiting again.

Very friendly welcome; we arrived late and this was remarked upon but in a friendly way. We were then offered a choice of pitches and a free upgrade which was most welcome.
Facilities are spot on.
We stayed just 2 nights, and did some great walking straight off the campsite on day 1. We wanted to not drive anywhere and to be honest that would have been difficult had we stayed longer...it is very secluded.
If you want fishing on your doorstep - literally - this is the site for you.; If you want to park up and walk to different villages over a number of days, you will struggle. Somewhere to read a long book perhaps?

Just returned from a lovely overnight break away at this wonderful site and really cannot fault anything about it! It is without a doubt the nicest Camping and Caravan Club site we have stayed at to date and the site managers Sue and Ian and their staff ensure that the reputation of being ‘The Friendly Club’ is upheld to the absolute maximum. We felt extremely welcome throughout our short stay. The site is immaculate and looks inviting even in the middle of winter. The site staff work very hard to keep it looking this way and full credit to them for this. We found the surroundings both stunning and relaxing with the lake being the central focal point. There is some wonderful wildlife and we had ducks coming right up to the motorhome much to our dog’s delight! The site provides a lovely little dog walk and adjacent to the site there are fields where we were able to let the dog off lead for a good old run. The toilet block and washing up area were immaculate. Flowers in the ladies were a nice touch. We didn’t venture out as we were only away for one night but there is a lot to do in the area with plenty of pubs and restaurants and day’s out nearby. The information room and shop were both extremely well stocked. This is truly a 10 out of 10 site and we will definitely return in the future.

I wanted a site that wasnt too far for my first attempt at hitching, towing and setting up a caravan, after reading the reviews I decided on this site & was pleased I did. Being a single, disabled mum with a dog! I called first & they were so reassuring & accomodating before I had even set off (& when got lost on way)They set it all up for me, told me about takeway that delivered & checked we were all ok. TV reception was not very good, if your child has to have TV take DVDs or good aerial, but there's lots to do in the area. Wasn't there long enough to check out all the facilities, but what saw seem good, disabled toilet/shower area was clean. Main thing everybody else agrees with too is the site staff are amazingly helpful & friendly, if like me you are worried as not been caravanning before then this is the place to go. If I can cope with my fear of towing(got better on way back & plan on getting stabilizer bar) I will be back & thanks for pointing out front lights not working & showing me how to do jockey wheel & water heating properly. Attractive convenient site for Cotswolds. Recently visited with motorhome which was new to us having always had a caravan. We had only taken delivery of it the day before and were not given a handbook. We had problems with the electric fire and water heater and the warden who had a similar model could not have been more helpful. Not only did he spend some time trying to locate the right switches for us but he also photocopied his manual for us and during this another warden turned up with a fan heater. Many thanks for help.

Excellent site with friendly helpful staff. It is always a pleasure to stay here. The refurbished facilities are first class.
The site is ideally situated for walkers being on the Winchcombe Way as well as being an easy drive to Cheltenham with it's excellent shopping if that is more your thing.
Highly recommended.

I would just like to let you know what a wonderful year we have had camping with the Club. I have taken a year off this year so had lots of camping breaks. We started our adventures in April at Winchcombe and travelled to Corfe Castle from there. We had glorious weather; the scenery was fantastic we visited Swanage and Studland Bay. In May we went to Sandringham, sadly the Queen wasn’t in, the site was set in beautiful grounds, and we visited Brancaster and Huntingham. Later that month we went to Hereford and here we visited The Weir and Symonds Yat. In June we went to Cheddar, Mendip Heights again outstanding views, we visited Glastonbury Tor and Wells. In July we went to Chipping Norton and we went to Cornbury Festival, we have been for the last 5 years, great music and wonderful atmosphere. At the end of the month we went to Veryan, again fantastic weather and views, we visited St Mawes, Falmouth, St Austall, Truro and local villages. We also camped at Bath on our way back to visit our daughter. August we went to Chard, not a club sites, not impressive. In September we went to Delamere Forest, had a lovely time at Chester and exploring the forest. In October we went to Preston, again not a club site, but we wanted to take our daughter to the illuminations .In between all these breaks we have had short stays at our second home Woverley. We would like to say every club site gave us a warm friendly welcome and we will not be going to non club sites next year. We store our caravan at Wolverley and sadly have just put it away for the winter, We would like to give a huge thank you to Carol and Mike Aspery, and their assistants for looking after us and our caravan for the 5th year, always friendly, helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to next season Merry Christmas to those now starting their winter break.

I stayed at Winchcombe in June and found myself returning again and again. The campsite is beautifully kept, the grounds beautiful and the staff simply wonderful. The situation is charming with fishing on site, walking in the hills and six pubs a short drive away, one is an easy walk across beautiful fields if you want to leave the car behind. This site is perfect for a family holiday base for an active holiday or a quiet weekend. I cannot praise this site highly enough.

A superb site, very peaceful, clean and tidy and the staff were most pleasant and helpful The only thing that let the site down was the lack of wi-fi. I booked this site because the book said it had wi-fi. It does not cover all the site and I was told it was available in the recreation room but that was closed by 9pm and I really wanted to use my computer in the comfort of our caravan.

WE have used this site 3 times now. We have not had a caravan for long and we had a few problems when we came here last year. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They really helped us and taught us a lot of things too. Thanks. The staff here this year were brilliant. The sit is beautiful and in a great location to discover the Cotswolds. Close to the Motorway exit as well. It is very quiet. Facilities are excellent in every way. Home from Home!!!! We will be using it again next year. Thanks so much. You are a great team.

This is one of the best sites we have been to. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The reception sold a small variety of groceries such as bread and rolls and the information room had a lot of leaflets and info about local pubs and attractions. We had a lovely day visiting the steam railway which is about a 10 minute drive away. We also visited Broadway for lunch which is well worth a visit. The washing facilities were ok, I found them to be a little cold but were clean. They also have a fish and chip van that visits twice a week. We had a lovely pitch by the lake and were asked if we wanted to be by the childrens play area or not which was appreciated. All in all would definitely go back and would recommend.

Winchcombe site was fantastic,Really great for wheelchair users and the Staff really went out of their way to make sure everything was easy for us. The site is set in a secluded tree-filled area with fishing lake on site.
The staff were brill freindly without interfering and everyone of them helped when I needed advice and info. The site is very clean and that is important to me.
Sue (site manager) really went out of her way to locate online a particular store location. All part of the service I guess altho I didn't expect service that good.
TOURING: The Cotswolds are amazing, alovely green calm land with lots of brilliant country towns to explore. I had my fill of charity shops with posh frocks, country clothing stores where I accquired my BARBOUR jacket in the sale and FOOD, Coffee on tap at cosy nooks or established hotels with discerning clients.
THE BEST FISH MEAL (TOP 3RD) in my life and I used to own a little bistro was
THE BUGATTI INN 10 min's drive form the site. The couple are up from Cornwall and Sean and Carol (Wife is Chef) served us up a FRESH FISH meal that we will never forget. It's also very friendly Bar and if I hadn't been worried about reconecting our drive away awning in the dark I would have been persuaded to stay for the quiz, THE PRIZE another FISH MEAL. They do other dishes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I will def be using Winchcombe again as so much more to see around the Cotswolds.
Happy camping

We were very warmly welcomed at reception and, although we only stayed 2 nights, the warmth & friendliness of staff was fabulous (even when being followed by our children!!!). The facilties were very clean (showers & dishwashing area). The only aspect we worried about, slightly, was the access to the lake; once the children had discovered how close it was to the tents they wanted to keep going near it & we had to keep going with them for fear of one of them falling in!!! We had a lovely time & would recomend the site to anyone that asked. Thank you x

We loved this site from the moment we arrived! The welcome was friendly, relaxed and not without a touch of humour - a natural warmth, just the way a welcome should be. The friendliness of the staff was matched by the beauty of the site which included a large lake with fishing platforms. Immaculate toilets and showers, large pitches, a games room and even a visiting fish & chip van. All that as well as the beauty of the Cotswolds on your doorstep. Brilliant!

Had a great welcome on arrival. All information that was needed was given. A really nice site that lends itself to visiting the Cotswolds, Stratford, Warwick Gloucester and Cheltenham. Easy access to South Wales. Fish and Chip van visits twice a week. We originally booked for three nights and ended up staying six. The staff are really great and helpful. It is a pity that some campers leave the toilets in such a disgusting state. My sympathies to the staff who have to clean up after them. We will be back! Thanks.

A lovely clean site with great staff who were most helpful. Decent sized pitches, most on hardstanding.
In a very pituresque spot with hills in the distance and a small lake onsite for any fishermen amongst you.
The Winchcombe Way, a 42 mile public footpath is adjacent to the site and the village of Alderton is a 15 minute walk away.
Just cross the road from the campsite and walk down the road to the public footpath which takes you across the fields to the village and the Gardeners Arms with a warm welcome, good food and great beer.
Get a 25% off food voucher from the information area at the campsite before you go.
Also a good central location to explore the Cotswolds.
The only tiny criticism I would have is that 4 mens and 4 womens showers isn't really enough when the site is full like it was when we were there.
Other than that excellent.

Just got back from this site after taking part in The Hell of The North Cotswolds mountain bike ride
The site is very secure and well looked after and has very good clean facilities with excellent helpful staff who are always keen to help
The site is well laid out with water and waste water facilities all close by
There is a small play area with a couple of swings and a climbing frame and a small goal for kids to play football
The dog walk area is next to the play area but there are plenty of dog waste bins around the site
The only improvement i would make would be for an additional chemical disposal point down the other end of the site as its a fair walk if your down the bottom end, that is not a critisism of the site but it would improve it
Whilst we were there we visited The Gardeners Arms in Alderton which is only 5 minutes away in the car, the pub is lovely and the food was excellent and to make it even better we got a 25% discount voucher from the campsite reception so it was good value as well !!
We will definitely go back

We have visited this site for the last four years using it as a staging post for transit north to south. Each year the facilities have improved and this year was no exception. There are more hard standings, toilet block refurbished to the highest standards and a new automatic barrier system which is much easier than the old gate. I would recommend this site to anyone who is happy with a site away from the coast. History buffs are surrounded by examples of different periods of our past.
The staff are helpful competent with a pleasant disposition. The only minor criticism is the very limited hours of shop opening.
