Nice site but this is not at OBAN! It's unbelievable that this is listed as Oban club site. It is over 12 miles from Oban! This site is in a walled garden and is therefore very midgey. I would not visit again because of the distance from the town and the horrendous midges. The staff were pleasant though and the facilities were ok. We visited a site at Oban after this one and it was much more open and the breeze kept the midges away. Camping and Caravan club need to sort out their listings and list this one as Barcaldine which is where it really is.

Had a fantastic night's stay at this site. We hired a campervan and this was our first ever night camping, and with a toddler too. Grounds were so peaceful and secluded and sheltered. Really friendly welcome and we were allowed to change our pitch to be closer to the toilet block (pregnant woman camping with no loo on board!!!) . Facilities were lovely and warm and clean. Literally the only negative thing I could think of was there could be a little more shelf space to put things in the parent and child shower room to stop things being on the floor/wet. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would return with no hesitation. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Beautifully secluded site hidden in an old walled garden. Definitely helped being sheltered from the rather biting wind which we had. Wardens were extremely welcoming and helpful. The toilet block was outstanding - warm and extremely clean. Being next to the forest walks was ideal as we have a rather energetic collie and she loved her walks through the forest. You get some great views from the top of the hill. Our first visit, but definitely not our last!

Warm welcome from very helpful and knowledgeable site managers. Perfect for dog walking, cycling and as a base for day trips. The sheltered garden could mean midgies are a problem in summer, but they were not in evidence in October. We will definitely be back here

Superb site with easy access to cycle tracks in the forest and the main Oban to Fort William off-road cycle track. Beautiful walks all around. Wardens obviously loved their job and bent over backwards to help - even pursuing us with leaflets for the walk we were about to start.

What a lovely peacefull site with lovely woodland walks. Stayed for three nights. Martin & Eleanor could'nt do enough for you. Well spread out pitches and the toilet and shower facilities were warm and clean and maintained to a exceptional high standard. Oban was within easy reach of the site and Fort William although a little further was also easily accessed. Will certainly be back again next year for a little longer.

A lovely site with friendly & helpful wardens. Clean facilities and very quiet within walled garden and opposite a Marina with a little beach to walk along. The roads can be quite narrow on the drive along Loch Lomond with not many places to pull in to but scenery wise it was well worth it. Ferry from Oban to Mull for Duert Castle & Tobermory is a good day out, especially with a free car park near Tesco (but NOT their car park!) Would definitely go again & stay at this site.

This is a wonderfully sheltered site set in what was a walled garden and it is ideal for anyone who loves the great outdoors. There are good walks in the area for any fitness standard and the bustling seaport of Oban is only about 12 miles away. The facilities block was brand new in 2011 and it is totally "state of the art". When we visited in Aug 2012 the faciities were in "as new" condition and obviously had been carefully maintained by the site managers. The site management team were amongst the friendliest and most caring that we have found on any site in the UK or abroad and in our view they are a credit to "The Friendly Club"

What a wonderful place to stay. On my first camper van trip during late April/early May, 2012, I stopped here for two nights. The peaceful setting of the site was a real pleasure. I would happily recommend the site.

We thoroughly enjoyed our break. Site is 12 miles from Oban. The Sea Life Centre is close by and well worth a day to visit. The weather was beautiful, and the scenery magnificent. The midgies which are often mentioned were not a problem. We were prepared tho! We enjoyed a beautiful meal with a ceilidh and a beautiful sunset thrown in for free just a short drive away. Thank you wardens for all your hard work. The 'lady in red' will be remembered for a long time. It was much appreciated.

A lovely site with very friendly wardens. Fantastic, clean facilities and very quiet with spectacular views and opposite a quiet Marina with a little beach to walk along. The drive along Loch Lomond from Glasgow was a bit tense, there aren't many places with facilities to pull in to and the roads can be quite narrow but it was well worth it.
The Sea Life centre was good, but not exceptional given the price and they no longer accepted Tesco Day Out vouchers, you now need a specific voucher although the chap on he door wasn't entirely sure what. Had a lovely meal at the Creagan Inn and an excellent cake at the Stalkers View cafe. Would love to go again.

There are many positive adjectival phrases that one could use to describe the the Oban site however on this occassion the word I would choose is exemplary.
The site, the setting and position, the cleanliness of the facilities, the helpfulness and friendliness provided by both Ellonor and Martin borders on the unsurpassable thus providing a very worthwile experience and therefore more than deserving of the highest praise and a a very well done to them both from me.

pleasent site with excellent facilities and friendly staff but too far from Oban being new to motorhome camping we were unsure if to go in the camper or catch the bus we had been told the bus stopped outside the site on the hour ther was no time table available in the large information shed but decided to catch the 2pm bus at £4.20 return when we got on the bus we asked what time the last bus was back and the driver replied "och i duno" which made us a bit wary but decided to continue as it had just started to rain as we got off the bus the driver pointed us to the travel shop and wished "us good luck"
unfortunatly the last bus back to the site was in just 40 mins or we could get the fort william bus which gave us another hour you guessed it we missed the bus the nearest bus stop to the site after 4pm is 6 miles away thinking ther was cycle path all the way decided we would walk the remaining 6 miles unfortunatly cycle path is not continuous and we had to walk about 3 miles along a busy road in the pouring rain
we will never forget Oban it is a lovely site but we prefer to have somewhere to walk to within a few miles of the site so probably not return

An excellent site for exploring the west coast area.Toilet, shower and dish washing room were immaculate, but if the show next to you was in use the water would run into yours also making mopping out mission imposable.
The midges were prolific to say the least, and the site manager was as sociable as the midges, in conclusion I can't see us using the site in the future

Well maintained site in a beautiful setting. However the name is deceiving as it is a long way from Oban. There are lovely forest walks from the site but nearby Barcaldine beach is on a small industrial estate and the beach is used to store large plastic pipes so families should stay well away. There is a sandy beach at nearby Benderloch and the wonderful family friendly Ben Lora cafe and bookshop. The scones are delicious. Take the path opposite up to the summit of Beinn Lora to work off the calories. You'll be rewarded with fantastic views across to Mull.

This site is fast becoming one of are favourites in Scotland, so much so that we have booked for a longer re-visit in September .
The setting is superb, the washing & toilet facilities are just wonderful(mainly all newish and still looking so).The pitches are well laid out and the site is just beatiful and very well positioned to get to Oban or Fort William (by bus if needed).
All the above said we must make a special mention of the staff (people so often make the difference), these are the most friendly and helpful we have come across, they have set a standard to us and we now measure all other sites by them
So thank you to Ellenor & Martin & the super subs Maureen & Stephen, you made our stay so pleasent.

We visited this site on the last week in May,it's a lovely place to stay, only had one problem and that was the midges, take insect repellent with you in case you need it,'Skin so soft' by Avon is a good one for some folk.I didn't suffer much but Susanne was bitten a lot and was in pain,I suppose some folk react different from others,Don't let this put you off visiting Oban, they only came out in the evening. The staff here are great and friendly too.
We will be back but later in the season maybe Autumn? The boat trips to the islands on the ferries are a must, the wee pub on Mull has great beer and food.

We intended to stay here for just a few days en route to Glencoe and the Skye club sites on our travels. But within a very short time of staying here we realised what a super site this is and stayed for longer On our way here during our round UK tour we have stayed in quite a few club sites and they are all of a standard as they should be, however some are over and above this and we have to say that this site is up there with the very best of them. The shower block facilities are new and are as good as any other site we have visited, and the walled garden gives a sense of community. We can absolutely say that we have not met on our long travels two more helpful and friendly wardens in the club network as are Martin and Eleanor. Their patience in helping us to book and then re book other sites when our needs changed coupled with their good humour is a credit to the club. The location with super forest walks and good bus service into Oban makes it a perfect site.

We loved this site. Ok, it isn't quite Oban (although not that far away) but there is so much to do on the doorstep anyway!
The National Cycle Route that runs past the site is brilliant - completely off road you can cycle down to the Sea Life Centre or head north towards Castle Stalker. Wonderful views across the lochs and mountains nearby.
Then there is the adjacent forest, which has fab walks and more mountain bike type cycling available.
The site itself is surrounded by a wall, previously being a garden. The wall provides shelter from the wind and gives the site a nice secluded, cosy feel. Its also great because if you have kids they wont get far!
The toilet block was new and immaculate. The shower cubicles were just the right size and the in built bench much better than the stool you get on other C&CC sites. Our pitch was flat and although told was limited to certain pitches, we did actually manage to get Freeview reception.
The only facility that was a little bit lacking was the Motorhome Service Point. It wasn't the proper drive over point we expected - just a pitch with a tap and a drain. We needed to bucket our grey water out. Wouldn't take much to convert it though if you're listening C&CC management!
All in all though, a fab site - highly recommended.

This is my favourite site. For me the great attraction is the Barcaldine Forest which borders it. This is several square miles of walks and cyle routes around forest roads and paths. I have 2 border collies who think it is heaven because they normally get a 9 mile walk each morning we stay there. There is also a cycle track past the gate and the hourly bus service to Oban, or just to the shop in the next village. Don't rely on the WiFi though, it rarely seems to work unless you're in the toilet block, but who needs it with all those walks.

After leaving one wet campsite in Fife we arrived to this one just outside Oban on a very wet and misrable day with 3 children in tow. What a lovely welcome we had of Martin and Ellenor and a good old chin wag later(mostly about the terrible weather we were having) the sun started to shine through! All hands on deck and we managed to put up our tent without getting wet. Ellenor even made us a cuppa, which was very welcome. The site had a small park which the kids enjoyed and there were plenty of walks. The new toilet block was clean and the site was very well kept. I would recommend this site to fellow campers. Thankyou to Martin and Ellenor for making life a little easier during our stay.

We stayed at this site with a motorhome accompanying two cyclists cycling LEJOG.Despite our unavoidable late arrival we were welcomed warmly and assisted with parking and topping up the water tank. The showers and toilets were brilliant.I would definitely recommend this site.

Have just returned yesterday from this site.It could be a beautiful site but currently leaves a lot to be desired. The site has just been refurbished and is currently unfinished. No LANDSCAPING done as yet, disabled facilities unfinished, builders rubble everywhere etc, etc.Holiday Manager blames the weather but I feel the term 'cowboy builders' might apply here. So disappointed as this is way below what one would expect from a club site. When complete I am sure it will be lovely but dont feel that it should even be open yet.Superb setting, stunning scenery with plenty of walks and cycle tracks in the surrounding area.Great for dogs.

This is a very quiet and peaceful site (although it wasn't full when we visited). It's ideal for people with dogs as the site adjoins a forest walk(s) and they can be accessed via the camp dogwalk. There are also separate cycle trails.
There's a brand new toilet/shower block with dish-washing facilities. These were kept very clean.
We managed to pitch in a very secluded area rather than the main tent field and rock pegs were necessary here, not sure about the other areas.
There's some great walks in the area but not a lot else as Oban is some distance away.
All in all, I would recommend this site and would stay there again.

my husband and myself stayed there in may 2010 and had originally booked for 4 nights. we ended up staying for eight!. i found this site to be very relaxing and ideal as we have two young labradors who greatly enjoyed being able to explore the beautiful sutherlands grove every day. they were well exercised and this for me was a massive plus as most sites usually only have a small dog exercise area and we have to scout about for something more suitable. there are 2 draw backs to this site, the distance from oban itself and the dreaded scottish midgie!!,but we survived thanks to the shop selling the best midge repellent thier is. the trip to oban was no trouble either as the scenery is stunning and you do not realise the distance anyway as you are to busy looking about you. we found loads to do to keep us occupied, but i enjoyed just relaxing at the site and sitting down by the river. the facilities may not be all mod con but are more than adequate and there is plenty of hot water available.

This is a small site of 75 pitches, set in a Victorian walled garden; right next to the site is Sutherland grove which is a large area that offers a range of woodland walks and Cycle routes through a diverse landscape of gigantic fir trees, crashing waterfalls, ancient Oakwood and working forest.
Across the road from the site is Barcaldine yacht storage and marine resource centre which gives access to shore line, but to be honest apart from beautiful sunsets over the marina there is not a lot there, the site is very isolated and is nowhere near Oban as the title suggest, the town of Oban is about 15 miles south of the site. Glencoe is about 20 miles away and Fort William is about 30 miles north.
We stayed here for 9 nights but to honest we could have stayed longer as there is lots to see and do and the site makes a great base for exploring the area, the site its self is like it suggests enclosed by a wall with big panel gates through arch at the entrance, the perimeter have the hard standing pitches and the middle is grass mainly for tents.
There is a new Tarmac road around the site and the toilet and washing facilities are served by a central block that is getting on in years but is quite pleasant and adequate.
There are no shops in the area but the site office does the basics eggs milk bread etc. and seemed reasonably stocked.
There is a small play area for the children but it is sited outside the entrance and I would think young children would have to be escorted there - it is also dog walking heaven as there is a gate from the site into Sutherlands grove next door.

A well kept clean site. Facilities include dated but clean toilet block. Shop with limited supplies, laundry room with 1 washing machine and 1 dryer. Didn't suit us, there wasn't much around. would suit stop over. Fire pit for BBQ was frowned upon. I'm sure there would be some people who would love it. No ball games, so not really catering for the family market.
