Just returned from one of our regular visits to Normans Bay. Grass cut, showers excellent, flower beds weeded and road mended!!Site manager, his wife and the team very helpful at all times.Keep up the good work guys. Will be back soon. Just one thing.... Please please clean up after your dogs on site and on the beach. We own 2 dogs and are alarmed at the mess on the beach.

This was our first stay at Norman's Bay & my husband and I, along with our 6 year old LOVED it!
The staff were very friendly & welcoming on our arrival & told us about the local area & what was available.
The toilets & showers were spotless & the washing up area was also very clean.
It was nice & peaceful which is what we like, but if you are after an action-packed site with entertainment ect. then this isn't for you.
Eastbourne & Hastings aren't far away & we had some lovely walks & found some amazing history.
There is no shortage of shops nearby so if you find the on-site shop a little expensive, then Asda, Tesco ect are only a short drive away.
The stoney beach is just across the road & my little boy loved throwing stones into the sea, he didn't even notice that there wasn't any sand!
All in all, a great site with amazingly clean toilets & showers. We'll definately stay again.. thank you.

We haven't been to the site for several years and wondered what we would find. We were pleasantly surprised that it hadn't changed at all. I was slightly concerned after reading the reviews that there would be a problem with the showers, but these appeared to have been rectified. My only complaint is the entrance, there are great pot holes in the tarmac not easy to negoiate with a caravan on tow and why the two flower troughs in what I would call the exit flow. Not very easy when something is trying to drive in. We even had one instance when it was blocked by a camper van the driver having leaft the vehicle to go into the shop. Also the gardens at the entrance could to with weeding and caring for they looked awful. The staff are hard working and pleasant.

We have just come home after our first Motorhome weekend away and want to say how impressed we were with Norman's Bay, the site was immaculate and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
We will definitely recommend this site to anyone who asks.
Thank you again for making this such a memorable weekend. All the dark clouds seemed pass away to the north.

Nice friendly welcome. Toilets were cleaned several times a day and dish wash area was spotless. Shame that the men's showers were awful - one block had 2 showers and the newer block only had 1 that worked properly - such a shame as it would appear that this could be easily fixed.

Arrived lunchtime on a Thursday before Easter break. Dissapointed that grass was not cut after the winter break. One shower was not working in the newer block. other block was very cold. During stay another shower became out of use and the older shower block was shut for maintenance which left one shower for all ladies to use!! What with the strongest winds we have ever camped in as well, This site offers very little or no shelter from wind. Something that a few hedges grown periodically would massively help. Why is that having the whole of the winter to do maintenance and to ensure all facilities up and running for the Easter holidays Normans Bay cannot achieve this??

Nice site, close to the beach. But the pictures on the front of the website are deceiving of the campsite the beach is not sandy but as it does say the sand does come out, but only at low tide. Not recomended for families, as a strict no ball games rule is said with a common phrase "I don't want to be an ogre" overall nice clean site, but wouldnOt recomended for family's.

A bit surprised to read the negative reviews of the staff as we found them friendly and helpful.
I needed to use the Internet connection and the assistant warden warned that reception was not good and offered to allow us to move our pitch if I could not get a signal. They were also helpful with regard to safe cycle routes and train times. Excellent service!
The facilities (only one block was open, but there was no queuing in October) were clean. I guess, compared to the latest facilities in some other Club sites, these are not quite as good, hence the 4 star rating.
There is lots to see and do in the vicinity and reasonably safe cycle routes from the camp.
We would use it again.

Was handed a site rule leaflet on arrival - not too friendly !!
Only one toilet block open and site was full by the weekend. Not much room between pitches and site is not laid out to it's best advantage. Train noise not really an issue. However beware of the miserable faced warden on his bike - his attitude spoilt our stay. won't be returning.

Stayed as a backpacker for a week during the Airbourne festival, Site team were very welcoming and kindly amended my booking at short notice due to a family illness. Due to this I was looking for a bit of privacy. Whilst I will always say hello to fellow campers and have a chat with them, the couple staying opposite me in their camper van and their friends could only be described as intrusive and harassing. Myself and my tent seemed to be their only source of conversation and even came to the point of one of them coming over to my tent and looking directly at me to see what I was doing, and one of the others stated they would take the tent with them if it was still there when they went home. The concept that I was backpacking and did not have a car seemed alien to them. They left one night before me and that last night was the only one I really enjoyed. Unfortunately due to this, I felt like a prisoner whilst on the site and stayed out a lot of the time as I wanted some time to myself. I would like to visit the site again, however this experience would make me very wary. This was not the fault of the wardens, however please remember that people despite staying in tents are still entitled to some privacy and certainly NO HARASSMENT. No problems with noise from trains despite close proximity. Toilet and washing facilities surprisingly sufficient considering how busy the site was.

We are regular visitors to this site normally 7 or 8 weekends per year during the months of june, july and august for the past 3 years but still we are never welcomed as regulars instead we feel we are putting them out but once we are pitched we dont bother much with the camp site staff. As members we like the ease of booking on line although you do need to book well in advance as they fill up quickly especialy bank holidays and school holidays. I book all my weekends around end of November or December in doing so you might think you get a good site but not so we usualy end up round the back beside the entrance to the dog walk area a busy area with dog walkers and a constant smell of dog poo, we dont have a dog but people with dogs have the prime site round the front of the park we dont understand that.
All in all we do have a good stay as we keep ourselves to ourselves, we find the old toilet block cold dirty and nasty but when the newer block is opened it's much better but can be a queue at busy times. The park itself is flat, this year a lot of new electric points, a one way system for cars althrough the park staff dont abide by it, one law for campers and one for themselves. The camp site itself is close to the beach which is good but is open to the elements, can be very windy. Has a little shop on site which is good as you always forget something has all the basic, there is also a fish and chips van comes most saturdays during peak season but be prepared to wait a very long time. Sunday mornings are not very peacefull or restfull as it is rush hour to leave before 12noon and then the tractor comes out with a lawn mower attached for a pointless grass cutting session each sunday.Nno 7th day rest here

Fantastic Site!!!So close to the Sea and Pevensy Bay town center. Yes, as per previous reviews, there are trains running all the time, but as they are Electric ones, after a while, you dont notice them. Dont get the (number 55) bus down the road from the site into Eastbourne as it takes and hour via lots of industrial estates, walk into Pevensy Bay and catch the number 99...it takes 20 mins!!!!Our only moan is that one of the shower blocks were closed for maintenance, but they still closed the remaining one at 10.30-12.00 for cleaning, and as there is only 3 shower cubicles, it was a mad dash, followed by a queue to get washed before they shut!! Superb hardstanding pitch with plenty of room. It rained and was blowing a gale, but we still had a great time!! Will deffinatly go back to this site.

As first time campers we found the staff excellent. They were really helpful in giving us a pitch that we could shelter from the wind and boy can it get windy! Everything was really clean but the queue for the shower was quite long and if the site had been full it would have been very long, but heh it's all part of the fun. Thoroughly enjoyed a meal at The Beach Tavern in Pevensey and The Star Inn Normans Bay. The guy in the on-site shop was fantastic when I drove over our camping stove and rumaged up a replacement from out the back and didn't charge a fortune for it. Loved every minute of our stay and will be going back.

Well a very busy and regimental run site. We stayed for just under a week and had relatively good weather, can be very windy though with been so close to the sea.
Majority of pitches were flat which made a refreshing change, quite difficult to get a decent picture on a digital tv, did manage to get 1 - 4 on normal analogue tv though.
Didn't have much need for any assistance from the site managers, but bewarned do not go the wrong way round the one way system as you will get told off as a fellow camper did to her peril....
The shop is well stocked although the owner isn't always happy and could do with labelling more products with prices. Chip van looked yummy on saturday night, but to no avail as at 6pm they had no cod or haddock left just huss - which I believe is like eel:((( so I ventured in to Pevensey for our supper and found the local chippy which was another adventure.
Toilets and showers were excellent and all cleaned at different times so there was no need to be caught short.
Lovely to be so close to the sea, but just a too big and noisy site for us, prefer sites with more character.
Would of liked to of found more information on local fishing sites as mentioned in the description - not everyone has the gear for sea fishing. We eventually found a lovely fishery just out side of Hailsham, yet no information was provided on the site for this.
Had great days out at Drusillas and Knockhatch.
Looking forward to our next trip out closer to home.

Having read former reviews we went armed with ear plugs, which was just as well as we were next to the railway line. They were also handy for the late night noisy tvs and the early children's noise as we were also next to the playground. Units were very close and privacy was a problem. We found all the facilities okay, the new toilet/shower blocks not that different to the old ones, but we didn't have to wait long and always had hot water no matter what time we went. If you have children with you and want to be near a beach you will be happy. If you want a bit of peace and quiet, you wont. The site could have been cleaner but this is down to the people on it - there was a lot of dog mess and the loos were dirty at times, I guess both down to unsupervised children. Maybe a little reminder to campers that it is their responsibility to ensure this doesn't happen?

The site was very busy when we came for a week in early August. Unfortunately I was walking with crutches following an operation and it was very difficult getting to the toilet block without being knocked over by children on bikes, and scooters all going much much faster than the 5mph limit for cars. The number of pitches is too many for the size of the site now that caravans/motorhomes and tents are getting enormous, therefore causing guy ropes to encroach on the adjoining pitch. I think it might have been quieter on the hard shoulder of the M1.

First C&CC site I had visited and was impressed by the welcome and way staff catered to my needs - wifi, dog walking etc. When I asked to extend my stay they went out of their way to accomodate my request and keep the same pitch although it was a very busy time. Must disagree and say Fish & Chips van is a rip off considering the site is on the coast and weren't very good - Indian that delivers is far better value for money. Have booked to visit again in September when I hope it won't be quite as windy. Although being sited right next to the old toilet blocks I found NO problems with noise etc. the worst came from young children with stabilisers on their bikes riding around the road. We had plenty of space for our folding camper and car on our pitch and never felt crowded - perhaps some people's expectations are higher but they should visit some of the sites we have been on. Would say it needed about eight pushes on the button for a shower in the old block but so what, it was still wet and did the job. Charming and accomodating staff added to the pleasure of camping and access to Sovereign Harbour with it's dog friendly eating places made it a lovely holiday apart from the wind which seemed very variable in direction!

Sites good for fishing and just getting away from the stress of day to day living..
Number of good pubs in walking distance with Pevensey Bay near and the Star Inn in the other direction.
Small convenience store onsite that sells your milk, newspapers and daily essentials.
Agreed with earlier comments regarding dogs and being a dog owner I can only agree, but thats down to owners than the site...

Very friendly staff, taken straight to our pitch. Size was good, but ground was very uneven and grass was a bit lacking in the area we were (would have been unconfortable in tent) also on a slight slope. Beach was over the road and was nice, not sandy but this is what we expected. 2 Shower/Toilet blocks both were clean and had everything needed, closed at different times for cleaning so never without facilities. Shop was well stocked and priced well. There is a train line next to the site so tent users would probably have been awaken early in the mornings. 10 min walk to train station with trains to Brighton, Hastings and Eastbourne passing, so good for seeing the area. 5MPH speed limit was observed by all except children on bikes who were racing round, didnt cause us an bother but expected an accident at some point. Good location, would expect to return again.

Booked this site as it was on the coast for a holiday with our grand daughter. We were disappointed that the beach was shingle, which was fine for us but not for buckets and spades - maybe this could be made clearer to save others making same mistake. I also agree with previous comment that baby bath is no more than large sink Great site for visiting surrounding places of interest on South coast. We enjoyed our stay but felt that the site had far too many pitches with regard to the facilities.

Camped there for two nights but was cramped at one end of site had difficulty getting car out as got blocked in by other tents . Ground is very uneven if you have a modern tent it is likely it will get damaged as ours did. We also witnessed others struggling with tents on uneven ground avoid toilet areas as youths hang around at night. Also dogs off leads and children running around the back of tents screaming seams to set dogs off barking. There is also a railway very close so don't expect much sleep. We have never been so cramped having to ask campers to move cars , wind breaks and guy lines in just so you can pop out is annoying for everyone. I think it's important to get flat ground as most modern light weight tents require this. New tent or good tent this site is not for you.

Rather disappointing . Almost like being in a field with no scenery. the showers were a lot to be desired with the water pressure being low, but they were extremely clean. The staff very friendly indead. A well stocked shop yes, with lovely fresh rolls every day mmm. Sadly the public transport left a lot to be desired , a good 15 walk to either bus or train. We struggled to find a farm shop although the official magazine says there are several farm shops in the area. Good site for children too.

Only down side which is not down to the site is the dog owners who either do not clean up after the dog or who do leave the bags on the beach (there are numerous dog bins) so why does this happen on this beach?

This is a very nice site in a beautiful area. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
However, a few points to take note of:
There didn't seem to be any recycling facilities on site, so all rubbish went in together. Not great for the ecologically minded!
If you are taking small children, the sink in the parent and child room is very small, only the size of a normal washing up sink. If our 18 month old had been any bigger, it would have been a problem.
Lastly, the site can get very windy so ensure you take plenty of extra pegs with you!
Despite these points we would thoroughly recommend this site!

A very friendly and busy site but no queues at all for the excellent and clean facilities even at peak times of the day. A word of warning to campers would be that the site is open to the elements and when the wind picked up our tent was battered (but survived!). If you're camping on a standard pitch the bottom end of the site by the newer washblock is more sheltered and would be a better bet than the very open side of the site near the kids play area. Also, for families the play area is limited to a slide and a couple of swings but with an excellent beach and coastal walks literally over the road this wasn't much of an issue on our short stay. Onsite shop is good for last minute bits and ice creams and there are decent supermarkets 10 minutes away by car. A great site, just be prepared for that strong coastal breeze!!

A really lovely campsite, busy but not overcrowded. Couldn't believe how close the beach was - you literally walk out of the campsite gates and you're on the beach! The staff were friendly although they failed to point out that it was a minimum of 2 nights stay so unknowingly paid for 2 nights when I was only staying for 1! Also, although the location is perfect for backpackers because it's only about half a mile from Norman's Bay train station, trains don't operate from that station on Sundays so beware if you're coming by public transport!

Lovely but very busy site. Very friendly and helpful staff. Have been disapointed on previous visits as large noisy groups have been able to pitch closely together. Not this time, extra pitches were squeezed in however current staff were very careful to stick to the 20ft rule. Facilities are kept very clean and I found that the showers did not flood as they have done in the past. Previous review stated that there were no private washing cubicles in the new block however I found there to be some as I used them. Direct access to a quiet beach and plenty of places to visit within cycling distance. We had a lovely weekend and would love to visit again now that the staff are managing it as the club intended it to be run. I had a fantastic weekend at this site. It was my first solo camping trip with my dog. On arrival the led me to a nice pitch and the man helped me put up the tent. There are two lots of toilet/shower facilities; one is more modern than the other, but they were clean at all times. The washing up area was under cover but had no door so insects got in and around the sinks, which was the only negative. Staff were extremely friendly, but not overbearing and they allowed me to extend my stay to 3pm so I could walk seven sisters.
There is a beach near by and Eastbourne is a short distance by car. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and intend to go back with my husband later this year.

We received a friendly welcome from the Club staff in the office. However, we felt that the instructions regarding exactly where to pitch were delivered in an unnecessarily strict fashion (I felt a bit like I was back at school!). That said, we did appreciate that on a large site it is important to be firm to keep everyone happy and things running smoothly. That small niggle aside, the site was spotless and well run. The wash facilities were plentiful and kept very clean for such a large site and the block itself was very warm despite the appalling weather that we had during our stay. The site is very large and we did feel a little crowded in on our pitch. We were visiting on the May Bank Holiday and the Club staff mentioned they were at full capacity and I'm sure at stay at a less busy time would allow for tents and caravans to be more spread out. The beach which is next to the campsite is beautiful albeit very stony but the children had great fun collecting stones and shells. It is quite windy being so near to the beach but quite acceptable. I would concur with other reviewers that the fish and chips were delicious and the lady running the van was amazing at remembering what everyone ordered. Be warned though that, if like our friends from Suffollk, you are not used to prices in the South of England, the fish and chips are very expensive but worth it nonetheless!

Full marks for printing my previous comments which perhaps were not complimentary about having to pay additional charges which in my view were unwarranted and in the circumstances unnecessary.
However, we will be back - if they will have us!!!
Thanks again

Arrived on Royal Wedding day for our second visit to the site, the previous one being in a tent. Staff really helpful....I witnessed the man who shows you to your pitch advising a lady in a campervan with a pop up top as to which way to face her van so as to get less wind blow on the top.
I agree that there could be a few more showers and the water flow is a tad lame - my other half said that he didn't dare wash his hair in the drip and he has a number 3 all over!!!
Beach is wonderful if you have a dog although they must be kept on leads on the path near the houses which a polite resident advised us.....however at the bottom of the slope near the water is public beach and they can be off lead.
Local amenities are great and the Marina just before Eastbourne is a fabulous place to while away an afternoon.
We will definately return.

We had a lovely 4 day stay, our first night the site was full and very busy, after the Bank holiday the site was much quieter; we were not disturbed by the trains, and loved the easy access to the beach,The showers were lovely and hot and all the facilities were kept very clean. We will be back,

Overall I enjoyed staying here and would stay again. I was a bit concerned about the noise from trains having read a previous post but I barely noticed them. Staff were friendly and courteous, facilities clean. The only negative comment is that the number of showers available (5 male, 5 female) was a bit inadequate and had to queue for showers most times during the 3 night stay. Plenty of places to visit in the area but the beach is also very pleasant when want a cheap day out. The Fish and Chip van that visits onsite (on Saturdays only) was 1st class too!

All staff at this park were great. It would have been better if you are made aware that all works at this site are not completed: ie laying of electrics turfing, outside paintwork on toilet areas:noisy road and most of all trains running next to site all night. If all this is made available to members ratings may be higher.

Corrently on site enjoying 5 day break. Very nice site where staff work hard under what appears to be s strick regime.
Overnight parking and storage areas were available when I arrived but the Holiday Site Manager insisted "there is no other place to park" our additional unit (a small trailer tent) for the night and I was obliged to pay extra for a family of five who were not due to arrive until the following day
To keep the peace I reluctantly paid up but I thought it was a complete rip off

The position, facilities and staff on this site were totally acceptable. To us, however, it was let down by the presence of the railway line. The trains did not seem to stop running during the night, and although they were small passenger units, they seemed very noisy. Unfortunately, we will not be using the site again.

This was our second year and even though the weather was awful this time round, we're still looking forward to our two weeks visit again in August 2011. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and they worked tirelessly to keep everyone happy and the facilities clean. If you love the beach life, this is the place to go! My children have made some amazing friends here and I'm sure they're all looking forward to seeing each other again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY LISA, MATT, KIMBERLEY AND KARRIE! Oh yes, and Tess our dog.

The site electrics tripped out a couple of times, heavy demand acording to a member of staff. I understand some upgrade work is due this year, resurfacing the entrance area would be good. The site wifi was a bit hit and miss, which I needed to use quite extensively whilst I was there, and some areas did not have very good communication. We still had a very enjoyable stay, and would return in future.

Having used your store & camp for the last four years . I have found the staff there very friendly and helpful. Location is very good and great for dog walking.
having done the store & camp the one thing l am upset about is the fact of paying a deposit every time l book, bearing in mind you have my caravan on site, I am not about to do a runner am I. Apart from this point its a great site and a great club keep up the good work. RGWB aker

Nice welcoming site right next to the beach. Our stay was spoilt by kids hanging around the facilities block making too much noise and the pitch next to us having 3 dogs and an annoying child and a loud mum who never stopped talking!
Choose your pitch wisely and you will enjoy your stay

Site is a little uneven with mole hills. This made picking a site for the tent difficult. I could imagine that at peak times you could be disappointed and left with a bumpy pitch.
