This was our first time camping as a family , and we found the staff very welcoming and friendly and Andrew was a great help in helping us with our pitch. The toilets where very clean as the showers. Sadly the weather not the greatest but would not stop us from enjoying ourselves. Would easily recommend this site.

As I don't live too far away, and I had visited the site twice last year in different weather conditions, I was determined to return again this year. The staff are still as friendly and helpful and the toilets are still immaculate. Some may complain about the roads on site, but really, this is trivial when all the positive aspects more than compensate. The place is very peaceful and idyllic and nurtures friendliness between all visitors, I'll keep on coming back!

What a fantastic location and views. I am totally bewildered reading some of the negative reviews of this site! Think – Loch Lomond, Scotland, mountains, deep cold water Loch, middle of nowhere/ever where (dependent upon mind set) – The ‘Glenlivet’ moment.
Truly beautiful location when dry and sunny; but monstrous when wet and windy, ‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing’ - Billy Connolly (from an old Norwegian proverb).
Friendly, helpful wardens, plenty of space, clean and warm toilets/wash room. Bring plenty of provisions, warm clothes, good boots, a kayak and enjoy.

Fantastic site, brilliant setting, and lovely, welcoming staff! We stayed at Milarrochy when walking the West Highland Way. We had called ahead in the evening to check whether we would be able to get a pitch if we just turned up. They made the effort to call us back after having missed our initial call, and when we arrived were so welcoming and accommodating. There is a separate facility block for backpackers, which is really useful, but with access to the main shower block as well. All clean and well maintained. The setting on the East shore of Loch Lomond is just beautiful, and is fantastic for walking, boating or just exploring the local area. Could not recommend highly enough.

Roads on this site are a disgrace, full of potholes. Only rubbish bin was away at far end of site.
Only 1 chemical waste site was also away at far end of site. Only a few pitches had loch view.
Good food at Oak Tree Inn at Balmaha.

This site should be one of the jewels in the crown of the club network. Instead it is a very tired looking site that needs money spent on it to bring it up to the standards achieved by other club sites. The toilets are fine. The staff were polite and efficient while the site location is idyllic, but oh how much better an experience this site would be if it was in better condition. The roads are in a disgraceful state, the grass between pitches is unkempt and whilst I accept it is difficult to keep grass in excellent condition that have vehicles driving over it, there appears to be a very low level of maintenance going on thus the unkempt look of the place. As in other c&cc sites there is just one refuse disposal point, the bins having been removed from previously used collection points. The other club seem able to collect refuse from various convenient points in their sites, why can't we? It takes more than clean toilets make a great site.

A lovely site on the edge of Loch Lomond, with excellent views across the Loch, let down by a view poor road, around the site, which is potholed and when wet (which it was) is almost impossible to walk on unless you have wellies. The toilets are lovely and clean. The site would benefit, as its quite remote, about 2 miles from nearest village, if they offered, to order in newspapers (with a small delivery charge) as other CC&C sites do. This was sadly missed on a Sunday morning, while eating breakfast.

The entrance to the site was good and the welcome was friendly but on entering the site it looked very unkept and the roads were very rough with potholes full of water. The toilet and shower facilities were spotlessly clean but to reach them we had to negotiate the potholed road. The waste bins were not conveniently situated. We shall not be returning to this site.

The view of Loch Lomond was very pretty when the weather was fine, but we were not impressed with the site. The roads on the site were a complete shambles full of pot holes. I got the impression that if you were not into boating or canoes then it was not the place to be. While we were there the site was full of youths who liked to congregate outside our caravan to talk. We realised that we'd made a bad choice within a couple of hours of arriving and we'd booked in for 3 nights. My husband went back to ask if we could leave a day early and was told we could leave early if we liked but when asked if we'd get any of our money back, was told in a rather scarcastic manner, "No". Needless to say, we will not be back.

First time on this site and unlikely to be our last.
Friendly welcome and shown direct to our pitch in fact we were given a choice unfortunately all the lochside pitches had been taken but still had a lovely pitch for our stay.
Showers, toilets etc., were spotless. Noticed some reviews mentioned only 2 washing up sinks but there is in fact another batch at other side of the room so no problem.
Site is ideally placed for walking and the views down by the lochside would take your breath away.
There are short walks in either direction which are more than worthwhile.
Due to time of the year we had no problems at all with midges inspite of us being extremely lucky in having 2 glorious days of weather.
Even although it was such a quiet peaceful site we found our fellow campers to be extremely friendly and more than happy to pass the time of day.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this site and hope to return next year.

My husband and I stayed here with our 6yr old son for 3nights in August and loved it. It was one of those rare times that something turns out to be better than you'd hoped.Even tho we turned up 3hrs early it wasn't a problem and got a warm welcome from Naomi and her mum. We were attacked by midges before the tent was up but that's nature. We didn't miss not having a shop,we bought provisions from local stores. The showers and toilets were kept clean and had won an award in 2011. There is a slipway into the lock for small boats and our son enjoyed paddling there in the clear water of Loch Lomond. It is a truly beautiful place and despite the midges would all love to go back.

This is a loveley site with great views over Loch Lomond. The last 1.5 miles of the road to the site is narrow with passing places and at Balmaha there is a sharp left into a 1:15 short hill climb.
The site staff could not be more friendly and helpful and despite the weather they were seen to be walking the site daily picking up litter left by the few and ensuring that those of us on grass were still okay following heavy rainfall. (the ground is peaty and does not drain well thus with this years heavy rain it was constantly very soggy for us), it is worth trying to get one of the gravel pitches if you can, your feet stay much drier.
The Oak Tree pub at Balmaha (1.5miles back down the road) is well worth a visit also for great service and even better food - parking opposite is free. There is also a boat service from here to Balloch and Luss.
Good for weekends, short visits or like us two weeks stay but predominantly used by short stay and lightweight campers plus sailors/water skiers etc. (no jet skis)
The only slight downside is that for decent shopping you have to drive to Dumbarton circa 19miles away.

A great stay for a backpacker along the West highland way. Well Recommended sight to stay as there is not really a better sight for about 30miles north. Also the cheapest!
Minimal Midges with full facilities next to the green, All clean and well maintained.
Two Lovely, Helpful and welcoming couples running the sight.
Situated next to a beach on Loch Lomand with some beautiful views.
Only 1 mile from the nearest town for conveniences.
3 recovery nights heading south on the WHW.

Stayed here for 7 nights.Received a warm welcome from Elizabeth & Duncan-who were most helpful during our stay, nothing too much trouble. The site is very peaceful.Very well looked after. Our jumbo pitch was very good although we noticed there were some better ones (for our next visit).Toilet blocks were kept clean and well maintained.Near to local shop in Balmaha or slightly further at Balloch. The only constructive qualms are the paths between pitches and the facilities-plenty of puddles to negotiate after the torrential rain-would be nice if they were tarmacked.Exit to the site could do with a large mirror opposite to see traffic coming from down the lane. All in all a very nice peaceful site to visit.Highly recommended & despite all the rain pitches drained quickly.Hope to return next year.

We stayed for 9 days - what a truly wonderful friendly site this is so clean, tidy and well maintained - we had a great time eventhough we had awful weather and midges that didnt stop pestering us. we will definately go back - we also made friends with the ducks especiall 'Hoppy' the duck that has a bad leg and who has been there for at least 8 years. the village shop and pub are about 1.5 miles from the site and the pub is a gem with good wholesome food.

Stayed on this site during 4 days of heavy to torrential rain. Didn't matter though because this is a stunning location in any weather. plenty of great walks around. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and although there is only one toilet/shower block it's more than big enough to cope and is absolutely spotlessly clean. Didn't like the gradient we had to plant the caravan on - it was safe enough but would have much preferred a level site and would not have booked if I had realised where we would be pitched. We were at the far side of the site away from toilet/shower block, bins, recycling and would have liked if facilities were more central. Midges were mean! Lovely walks and great for access to the waters of the loch. Balmaha is a 0.5 hour walk along the lochside and has a good pub.

Arrived unannounced after-hours with a 2-man tent after walking 12 miles over Conic Hill in the lashing rain to a warm and friendly welcome from the couple who manage the place. Cost us around £13 for the night I think (2 adult walkers in a tent). There's a decent block for backpackers with drying space and lockers for all your soaking wet kit (though they could do with providing a few more clothes-hangers), clean surfaces to cook using your stove, hot and cold water in the sinks and a big table to sit round. You'll need £5 as a deposit if you want a key to lock a locker but we didn't bother - you have to have some trust in people! No heating in there but unless it's freezing outside that's not such a big deal. Good showers - nice and hot.

Just come back from a wonderful time at a wonderful site. On arrival, we were met by Ann and Martin who were both efficient and friendly. Martin very kindly offered to help me manoeuvre our caravan by hand so that we could have simply stunning views over the loch from our front window.
The site was very wet underfoot, apparently tents weren't allowed at that time as there was nowhere dry enough for them, but our hardstanding pitch was fine. Luckily all the surrounding grassy areas were well trimmed so the kids could play without their feet becoming too wet. The children's play area was, unfortunately, unusable because of the puddles, despite the copious amount of bark that had been placed there to soak up the rain from a dreadful summer. I suppose there is only so much that can be done by the wardens in the face of such wet weather.
That said, the toilets, showers, family room and dishwashing areas were all spotless despite the puddles outside.
My only negative points would be the limited number of dishwashing sinks (2) for so many potential users. We didn't have to queue, but I imagine that in peak season that could be quite annoying.
We really enjoyed this site; the attention to detail, the stunning views and the friendly staff mean that we would be happy to recommend Milarrochy Bay.

Fantastic site !!!!! Stayed here for two nights and wanted to stay longer but there was no availability, unfortunately. My husband and I absolutely loved it. Spotlessly clean showers and toilets, about 8 of each in ladies and the same in the men's. POWER showers were brilliant. Plenty of local information available. We picked up a leaflet for the woollen shop in Aberfoyle which was lovely. On the two days we were heading back to the site we saw a group of red deer in the fields on the left. A stag and 6 or 7 hinds which was amazing. Pitched right on the side of the loch which was a little frightening, as it was raining hard and very windy but it was our choice. Can't wait till next year to visit again. Thank you to the wardens.

Mixed feelings with this site as when we turned up, there was a group of kids on an activities week......very strange to uson a C & C site.....but they were camping at one end of the site and eating at the other, so the noise they made between the two was really loud and annoying. Fare play to them though, by 11pm, the site was silent. Once they had gone the site was pretty quiet and peaceful.
The facilities were clean and tidy and the staff were always on the ball with that.
We found the atmosphere a wee bit clicky when the boaters arrived by the weekend....pays not to go to a site for launching boats, when you dont own one....O well.
Otherwise, the site was good and beautiful views of the Loch. Highly recommended if your wanting to walk parts of the West Highland Way. Enjoy :-)

Towing - watch for the 15% hill just after a blind left hand bend just as you leave Balmaha. The road narrows after the bend so take care especially if a long and/or wide unit! Take extreme care when leaving as it is then a blind left hand bend leading into a narrow road - a touch of the horn is recommended!
A beautiful quiet site on the banks of Loch Lomond which fills up with backpackers each evening. Barriers at entrance and exit but no code / card needed.
Choose your pitch carefully if you want to access satellite TV - ask the wardens for advice.
Good mobile phone access
Facilities adequate with codes, but only one block - disabled facilities also in this block and by use of winding ramp.
Only two washing up sinks for the whole site! Not enough for 150 pitches!!
Site WiFi very intermittent - seems to switch off at night but then may be off for a couple of days!
Had to use my internet dongle for quite a bit of the time but shouldn't have needed to do so having paid for Site WiFi
Rowadennan Hotel - to north of site along lakeside (3 miles) - fair food, but we found it noisy with blasting-out music
Oak Tree Inn in Balahama - good food and reasonable prices with local beers served - much quieter!

Very friendly welcome from site staff and seem to really have made a difference this year as site is looking very good indeed. Only problem is site access for larger units as the last couple of miles is along a narrow road with a very steep climb up a blind bend at Balmaha. Site is rather isolated so make sure to stock up with provisions before you go!Small shop at Balmaha and a Spar at Drymen ,just dont expect a superstore on the doorstep! Midges not a problem this time as any breeze drives them away.Hope to get some sun next time!

We arrived on Friday, 30 July 2011 (Scottish Bank holiday weekend and a folk festival was booked in Balloch) and had no booking. Think the campsite was already busy, however the Warden is a very friendly and accommodating chap and offered us a pitch, which turned out to be very good. The pitch was near the main toilet block and within easy access of the loch side. Some noise on the Saturday night but that is to be expected, people are on holiday and want to let their hair down. The noise died down very quickly around 11 pm. Would definitely use this site again in the future.
The Warden does an extremely good job making sure all his duties are attended to and there are no issues with the guests. On Saturday evening I noticed someone came along at around 7 pm looking for a pitch, the Warden said he was fully booked but managed to accommodate the campers. This shows a commitment to the site and also how friendly and eager to help, especially on a Saturday night. Keep up the good work and we hope to see you again very soon x

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice, clean site which is well looked after. If visiting again would request to be kept away from the main road as it got a little noisy in the tent during the night (thought a car was going to end up on top of us at one point!). For a quiet, very friendly and relaxing weekend I would definately recommend this site........well done to all staff and thank you.

the staff are always at their very best to help and guide. The site is so spotless and the staff are always out doing more improvements. The toilets are what you would expect in your own home, clean, warm and inviting. I really do think this site is perfect but not only because of its location but the staff have made the site what it is, i hope they are recognised for their amazing hard work.....

My first experience of a CCC site with my young son and small tent. Excellent welcome from all staff - we were very helpfully given a pitch by the loch as we said we wanted to go out in our canoe. Facilities are great and clean. Walking and loch sports are there on the doorstep and the hotel at Rowardennan is a short drive away and had live music. Def be back.

We stayed here in July for 2 nights with our two children. The wardens'were all extremely helpful especially as we are new to motorhoming. Nothing was too difficult for them.We felt reassured to see how often they circled the site checking all was ok.The shop kept the usual snacks, rolls eggs etc. Dish washing area, laundry and washing facility spotless.Codes needed to access toilets and showers. There is coastal path to Balmaha from the nearby visitors centre. This was beautiful but for less mobile persons could be difficult and to walk the narrow road instead to Balmaha is a little long and dangerous in places. There is a little beach near the site and a few spots for kids to try a spot of fishing which my son really enjoyed.More experienced persons could be seen launching small boats from the site too.Bike hire is in Balmaha which is a good 35 min walk kayaks also available.Water boat leaves balmaha frequently to visit other sites of interest. We really loved this site. Only drawback were the midges!! Advised by lots of campers and caravanners that Avon skin so soft spray works the best as deterrent!!!

This is a wonderful site. The location is superb, right next to the loch. Midges can be a problem at some times however the toilets and showers were superb, and the location was wonderful for walking or boating. The site was small enough to be friendly however towing a van was tricky for the last couple of miles with a steep hill on a corner presenting a bit of a challenge! Worth the effort though, would definately visit again

This site and the people that run it(The Wardens) must be close to best you will ever get.We have just spent 5 nights at this site, for us it was one of the very best breaks we have had with our caravan. It is caravanning at its very best.

We have been to this site twice this year. Being on the West Highland Way, it is a great place for walks and the steeper forest walks in Cashel are rewarded with beautiful views across the loch. The coastal walk to Balmaha can be rewarded with a lovely meal in the Oak Tree.

Fantastic place to relax and enjoy the sights of the Lock from the site. We've been there a couple of times, and found it to always be peacefull, even with children around. Easy place to launch a water vessel from. Easy location to get to fantastic walks. The first year we stayed there, we say a large male deer, walking through the woods, just up the road. Don't know if we were jst lucky on that occassion. The toliet/shower and washing area's are spotlessly cleaned everyday. The laundy facilties are good, and not expensive. The staff leave you to enjoy your stay at the site, and also very helpfull should you need to know anything. Excellent, thank you.

went to Milarrochy bay with 2 friends for a kayaking weekend, staff were not to keen on taking in a group of guys which is understandable but I had phoned ahead and explained what we intended to do. the facilities are the best I have seen on a campsite very clean, the staff are really helpful and friendly, easy access to loch for our kayaks would highly recommend this site to anyone. one bad point MIDGES be prepared lol.

stayed in july great site but spoilt by a couple of things the field at the back was full of ruts we were on hardstanding but my daughter was further back and had to pitch to avoid ruts. also at weekends tents seemed to be crammed in every where they could be fitted in.on the plus side area great for walks and of course the scottish scenery

The site staff were very helpful and friendly. The main toilet facilities were always spotless along with the rest of the site. The drainage seemed pretty good in most places. We were pitched with our back to the road (with trees between us and road). Caravans got the pitches on the loch side. If you do prefer loch side pitching in a tent there was another area that you could pitch but there was no electric down there.
We tended to use the backpacker facilities for washing up which were clean most of the time with decent big sinks but the backpacker toilets, which are unisex were horrid and always full of midges so we walked the extra few yards to the main block for the loo and shower. The main block has a coded door which you have to punch in each time you enter. All very clean and never had to wait for shower.
There is a nice pub down the road in Balmaha which serves food or go up the hill instead almost as far as you can go (few minutes drive) to Rowardennan and there’s a pub there, part of the Rowardennan Hotel. Gets a lot of hikers in there as it is directly opposite the path to Ben Lomond and has a colder less cosy feel to it than The Oak Tree but still decent food served at good prices.
The walk to Balmaha from the site along the loch side is lovely. We were advised not to cycle that due to the tree roots etc but we did anyway and were glad we did, we just had to push at the narrow parts and over some drainage areas that’s all.
There’s a nice little village shop next door to The Oak Tree pub as well which sells everything you would need along with gifts and postcards etc. There’s a large car park across the road and a visitor centre but apart from that Balamaha doesn’t have much else to offer. It’s quite a trek to the nearest big supermarket but there’s one or two to choose from.
We definitely plan to return to this site if we visit the area and just hope for better weather which would have really made the stay special.

Upon arrival was pleasantly greeted by the staff and shown to my pitch which I had the choice of opting for a pitch out of the way with lovely views over the loch.
My stay was slightly spoiled by some campers who were still a bit rowdy at 2 am with singing and laughter which was keeping myself and partner awake.
Overall the site was lovely with a good general standard of clenliness and should appeal to all ages can only hope rowdy campers are not common place.
