This was our very first outing as caravan owners. Directions in handbook were spot on and we were warmly welcomed by wardens Phil & Adele. Phil showed us to our pitch and helped us park up. Nothing was too much trouble for him, even suggested that we did not put our awning up as very high winds were forecast and how correct he was. Kendal is a lovely site ,not too big and not too small with the lakes on the doorstep. Toilets and showers were always immaculate and basic essentials were on hand in reception. As it was our first venture we only stayed for 5 days but cannot wait to go back.

Just spent 7 beautiful bright days at this site (maybe the nights were a little chilly). We received a lovely warm welcome from what can only be described as an immaculate site. Phil and Adele work constantly to make sure everywhere was spotless. The location was fantastic and we all returned home exhausted, especially the dog. Morrisons really is 10 minutes walk away, with the facility to feed and water our family of 5 for £16! The climbing Wall, which is walking distance from the site, is well worth a visit with very reasonable prices. So much to do, looks like we will be heading back soon. Thank you Phil and Adele for making our first trip out in the new camper such an enjoyable and stress free trip!

wefound the facilities very inadequate, my husband had to join a que to use the toilet. In the ladies toilets there were 6 toilet cubicles but 2 were converted into showers which were so small you were unable to move very easily also your clothes got wet from the wet floor and it was very difficult to get dressed, when I mentioned the facilities to another camper she said the toilet facilites have never been ugraded and were the same when the building was put up. we have been to several sites but this one is the worst we have been too with these facilities. We were also amased that they were closed for an hour and half every morning. We are wondering when these facilites are going to be upgradad as I am sure this would put a lot of people off especially with young children as there were no facilities for them either. I await your comments

What a lovely site - we have just spent 4 great days here and would certainly return. All the staff were really friendly and the site well served by the local Morrisons 10 mins walk away, with Kendal being about half an hour away.
Although the site would benefit from more shower facilities it was a great break and we look forward to going back soon. Thanks very much.

This is a small, tranquil site with fabulous access to the Lakes, Howgills, North Pennines and Dales. The site managers are the friendliest I have ever come across and work very hard to keep the site and facilities immaculate. The site facilities are small and a bit dated but are kept absolutely spotless. Surrounded by fabulous countryside but only a few minutes walk down the lovely river Mint to Morrisons and a short walk from Kendal town center you get the best of all worlds. A hidden gem of a site. We will be returning as often as we can!

A great site, small and very friendly. We found it ideal for our 3 & 4 year old. Fantastic views, lovely ground for our tent (hilly but able to pitch on flat areas). Toilet/washing facilities more than adequate and very clean although could do with a lick if paint on the ceiling :-) Would definitely recommend this site and we will definitely visit again. Soon!

This is a lovely little site. The site managers are the friendliest we have ever come across, they always had time and a cheery word for everyone. The site is is kept well with lots of lovely flowers around. The shower block is a little old but well kept. It is an easy walk into the lovely town of Kendal. There are some excellent super stores within a 10 minute walk. It is also well placed for exploring the southern lake district. We will hopefully be back soon.

This relatively small and picturesque site is close to a local Supermarket but also close to the outside activities and attractions which make the Lake District famous.
The current Site Managers are a helpful and friendly bunch who made us feel completely at home. Whatever the weather they always had smiles on their faces. Can't wait to visit again in September in the low season.
This site is well established but this means the toilet facilities are relatively old. There is no separate toilet for disabled people and I really think that the Club should consider upgrading the facilities - it would make life easier for everyone. It is for this reason, and for this reason only that I marked the facilities to 4 stars.

Toilets and showers very clean but totally inadequate in numbers. Two of everything for men (four hand basins) and similar for women. Closing everything at the same time for cleaning is not very good especially for families with young children.
Some hard standings were more mud and grass than stones. It would also seem that some of the better hardstandings were being reserved for some one as some stood unused for several days. It is the first site where we have not been allowed to select the pitch we want from those not being used.

The surroundings of this site is beautiful. We where on a pitch with a river flowing at the back of us. Its fantastic for those who love to take long walks and visit Kendal. The site staff where genuinely lovely and extremely welcoming, probably the best I've experienced in our 4 years of membership. The only negative is the toilets/shower area, it looks rather weathered but they obviously work hard to keep it clean, but the showers where powerful and hot. So overall, only a very slight negative to this site. Thanks for a lovely stay (although it did pore down from beginning to end of our stay).

an excellent site that needs a refurb. of the toilet block, the staff try manfully to make everything spick and span but there is a limit to what they can do with such tired facillities.
location is excellent for visiting the area, just off the Shap road out of Kendal, Morrisons and Aldi walkable, reasonable price for fuel, has to be a bunus these days as many sites are far away from fuel supplies.
Transport needed if you want to visit the 'lakes' or Kendal but a lovely situation with great walks, near river and vast open country

Spent 5 nights here early in May 2012. Ideal location just out of the town of Kendal and 9 miles from the M6. Some very pleasant riverside walks direct from the site or easy travelling distance to the hills. Bowness and Windermere just 30 minutes drive away. Plenty to do and see in the area. Close to shops. Morrisons 10 minute walk along the river bank. Many good restaurants in Kendal. We found the site particularly handy as we were walking The Dales Way which runs quite close.

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at the Kendal club site. We would like to say that the site managers Phil and his wife are two the most helpful and friendly people in all our camping and caravanning years. Nothing was to much trouble for them,no mater what time of day or night it was, and all units where treated with the same happy welcome. No matter what the weather there was there was always a cheery

On our annual stay we were warmly welcomed by the the new managers, although they did look familiar. No wonder we had met them previously in Oxford where on both occasions they had been extremely friendly and helpful.
A lovely clean, quiet site close to Kendal and within easy walking distance - usually a consideration for motor-home users. Yes facilities are dated but so clean and loads of hot water, much more important in our eyes. Will certainly return.

This is a lovely site and the welcome for me and my 8 year old on his first camping trip proper was warm and friendly. The staff on site could not do enough to help and even though we left a night early due to home sickness they were really pleased that my little boy enjoyed his stay and had time to have a chat with him about all we had done.
The only flaw the site has is that the facilities are in need of an update but as usual are spotlessly clean.
This site is a great base for any kind of holiday as it is in the heart of the lakes with good transport links on the outskirts of town.

We have just come back from a 3 night stay and would thoroughly recommend this site. The new wardens gave us a very friendly welcome and were always helpful while we were there. Their local knowledge is limited as they have only been there a few weeks but they are enthusiastic about finding out more for their visitors.Full marks to them.
The site is well placed for walking and cycling the lower, quieter, fells of Lakeland. We had an excellent walk yesterday just by getting out the Explorer map and joining up some footpaths starting from the campsite-didn't see another walker all day but had fabulous views of the Lakeland Peaks and the Howgills at the same time!
The closeness to supermarkets is a real bonus, the walk in and back along the river is a delight.
The only downside is the toilet block which has already been mentioned by others. Whilst the wardens do a really good job of keeping it clean and tidy, there really is a need for some money being spent to redevelop it both in standard and size.
We would have no hesitation about going back

We arrived a few days after the site opened for the season and received the warmest and most professional of welcomes from the new managers. For us it was the first night of a tour taking us to the west coast of Scotland: and what an excellent way to start! We can't add a great deal to the descriptions already posted by other visitors in 2012, except to say we wished our plans had allowed us to stay longer. We'd certainly like to return and would have no hesitation recommending the site to family and friends. Many thanks to Phil and Adel and best wishes in your new role!

This was our first visit to this site and on arrival we were greeted by the new site Managers Phil and Adel.
Phil and Adel were very helpful, In the reception area there are a large selection of tourist information as well as selection of local produce, milk eggs etc and on arrival you a give a pamphlet detailing site rules, and helpful local information.
The site itself was very good, lots of room between pitches, lots of green space and in very scenic surroundings. and also a variety of pitch options and services were available.
The site is also on a slightly sloping field, so although there are a number of level hardstandings, most caravan pitches will require either levelling blocks or ramps, The site is bordered by the River Mint and if you have a Explorer map you will find countless footpaths, tracks and bridleways. the site is also dog friendly , although you will have to keep your pet on a lead there are miles of walks to exercise This club site is easily accessible and if you follow the directions in the CCC book you will not go wrong, access from the roadway and into the site is again very easy.
Kendal town is a pleasant 40 mins walk away and there is enough in Kendal to keep you busy, a very pleasant town, also if you get caught short and need a loo, many of the shops operate a sceme for visitors to use their facilities at no charge.
A great bonus of this site especially if you have a family to feed is a Morrisons store, again accessible either via foot-paths or car.
The toilet block and showers are kept spotless, and the grass is mown regulary.
So to sum up, a great site , managed very well by Phil and Adel, in a great location, peaceful at night, but with a abundance of walks Something for all with both a variety of local shops and excellent for exploring the lakes..

We had the pleasure of visiting the Kendal site twice this year, May when the weather was kind and October when it was "mixed". On each occasion we were treated to a friendly welcome by Wardens Joy and Graham who not only directed us to our pitch but on each occasion Graham was there assisting me to unhitch, a service greatly appreciated after a long and tiring M/way trip. They were always about and always with friendly advice, a joke or a cheery word "lovely people". The site itself is an ideal base for the south eastern side of the lake district and so convenient to Kendal. It is not surprising therefore that the site is so well patronised. "Sadly" it is badly let down by the "primitive" toilet block, which I must add is kept spotless by our ever cheerful wardens.
It really is time that the club up graded these facilities, even portacabin facilities would be a vast improvement.
2012 will hopefully see us heading North and again Kendal will again be our destination. Joy and Graham will sadly not be there to greet us "retirement beckons", We join what must be a very long list to wish them a long and happy retirement. GS & P Roberts

A lovely small site within easy walking distance of Kendal town centre. Facilities are basic but clean and the staff couldn't be more helpful. As a tent camper I wouldn't like to stay in high season as there are currently only three showers/toilets in the ladies and two in the gents (so i'm told!) and two wash up sinks, although we were told that an upgrade to these facilities is on the cards. All in all we had a lovely time here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet off season break :-)

Wardens only said hello when you said it first.
Out of 7 nights stay my husband found there was no toilet paper 4 mornings and there was none twice in the ladies this was at approx. 8.30am (at most sites the wardens check the toilets late at night and renew toilet paper as needed)
Toilet seats in two toilets were loose for the full week, not forgetting not a huge choice of toilets here!!
Pitches very small, no choice on which awning door you want to use, we were on the pitches which had very high sloping grass banking round the pitch, this made it difficult for knocking the pegs in.
If the wardens took as much care with the rest of the site as they do with their patch of 'garden' it would be a much better site.
And yes there are pot holes in the roads all round the site.
Site is in a great location very handy for supermarket etc.

We enjoyed a lovely three night stay on this site and cannot fault the welcome or the cleanliness of the facilities and site itself; the only slight drawback was that there weren't quite enough showers for the number of pitches and we often had to queue, even at 9 at night, and the site wasn't full. All the same, the location is smashing next to fields and river, and only a ten minute walk to Morrisons for supplies trips, 15-20 min stroll into town. Would recommend this site, most definitely. Loved this site, really nice and would go back. Supermarket next door, Kendle 15 minutes walk.
My only hesitation is that the Toilet Block, although clean, is too small for the site. there was a queue for the 2 toilets in the Mens and i had to wait until the afternoon to get a shower. Otherwise good, the staff were really friendly and very helpful, yes the WI fi doesnt work but who wants wi fi when you are on holiday anyway.
My only negative comment is about thoughtless dog owners, I am not sure why folk would want to have 2 very large dogs in a very small tent, their deep bark was very ANNOYING. especially at 5.15 in the morning.. I actually like Dogs but some people give dog owners a Bad name.
Otherwise, great site and brilliant Holiday.

Site is mid-sized set in the countryside and fairly level for the most part. Friendly atmosphere.
Contrary to some coments, the facilities are perfectly adequate - male and female toilet/washing facilities each with two showers, a number of basins and toilets. Clean. Also, dish and clothes washing area with a tumble dryer. And a phone and small shop.
Site postcode doesn't work well with TomTom. Go to Kendal, take the A6 north marked for Shap or Penrith. Just out of town, you'll see a 150yd camping sign on the left and then a well-marked right turning onto the campsite access road.
Short riverside walk to retail park with a supermarket. Kendal about 30-40 minutes further on.
Kendal is basically a pedestrianised area with most of the usual national chain shops surrounded by a one way system, which is OK when you get used to it. Some restaurants, shopping, galleries and so on. Supermarkets are out of town. Abbots Hall Gallery is worth a look and the Brewery Arts Centre close by does decent coffee and croissants.
Good jump off location for Windemere and points north.
In emergencies, the local camping equipment supplier is about five miles south east (LA8 0FB).

On this site some of the pitches have been upgraded, however, we were allocated a small, very sloping pitch despite the fact that several of the upgraded pitches were available when we arrived. The warden explained that it was necessary to allocate pitches in order to accommodate larger outfits (presumably on the large upgraded pitches). He did his best to find us a better pitch, this one was grass and sloping in another direction, slightly better, but still poor. The facilities at this site are woefully inadequate. I imagine the condition and state of repair of the shower cubicles would make it impossible to clean them properly (hence only two stars for cleanliness). We booked in for five nights but stayed for only two.

We really enjoyed our time at the Kendal Campsite. A good base for exploring the Lake District. Well kept and very quiet. We will definatley return. The only downside was the grass was very long in the childrens play area.

This site is very well situated as within a mile there is access to a supermarket and the town, yet still in the beautiful countryside. When registering some people who got impatient at having to wait for what was quite a long time, the female member of staff miscried the owner of that car in front of her customers (I could overhear this despite having to stand outside because I had the dog). Then, when my husband didn't have his membership card on him (I was displaying mine from the outside - not allowed in with the dog) she talked to him like a little boy "...next time you keep your card on you". We later asked if there were dog friendly pubs in the surrounding area and this same female member of staff said that she doesn't have time to spend trying out pubs because she's always working here. We suggested that perhaps she could ask her customers to to report back and record what the local pubs were like.
Although the facilities themselves were spotless the toilet block and (+ one other)could do with a bit of an upgrade.
Despite the initial hiccup, this is a lovely site.

Just had seven nights at this lovely site. Weather could have been better but did must of the things we intended.
The Friday Freedom Cruise on Windermere is not to be missed.
The toilets and Showers are a bit dated but were perfectly clean and working order.
Hope to return there in the future.

We had a lovely holiday at this site 4 years ago and wanted to try again, we were not disappointed. The staff where very welcoming & extremely helpful, the facilities were lovely and clean. The weather made our stay more enjoyable and its only 5 minutes in the car from Kendal, yet there is a lovely walk taking 40 mins along river bank. There is a lovely animal rescue centre you can walk around with ponies/farm animals and parrots flying free, with cafe in courtyard, just outside Shap next to Jersey ice cream factory. Site is 15 minutes from Windermere. Would recommend site to anyone who wants to explore or just spend time relaxing on site. Will definitely return again in the future.

Arrived 20 mins early and told we had to wait until they finished cleaning! Not happy with two children after long drive to get there. Not permitted to book in before 12 (not been a problem at other sites). Neither were we allowed to pitch up and then to book in when they were ready. Waited in car outside "reception" until 12.10 and then phoned and were told they were waiting for us in "reception". They didn't bother to knock on our car door to advise they were ready for us to book in. Decided not to stay and went to Windermere CC site which was fabulous with a warm welcome.

I found the access to this site very easy. Its a quiet and peaceful site (except for the odd fighter Jet low flying overhead) :-)Staff very polite and helpful, site was well maintained and clean. Shower and toilet block a little small and certainly not the luxury of teversal, but all in all a lovely little site that we will be revisiting in the summer.

On Arrival we were happily greeted by our hosts.
We were informed rock pegs were not required for the awning, but found they were, as under the gravel was a base of concrete.
At our plot we were offered good advice and assistance.
I am convinced the WiFi on this site is FAULTY as two feet from transmitter and in the reception area, (a converted static), a full signal was achieved at 6 feet away no signal was possible.
The Ladies and Gents Shower/Toilet facalities are of a very poor standard, extremely dissapointing.

The site is in a lovely setting but within walking distance of Kendal and the supermarket mentioned by another reviewer. There is a lovely walk along the river that runs past the site. I agree that the facilities may be limited when the site is full but they were very clean and in good working order and with about 25 pitches occupied they appeared to be hardly used.

Site was nice, good views etc.Site facilites were very dated & quite inadequate, 2 shower cubicles for a 50 + site? Suggest ablution block is knocked down & rebuilt, suggest the people who built the ablutions block at your Ravenglass site are used.

What a little gem! so near to the town yet feels in the depth of country. The site managers could not have been nicer when my husband had a bump with the electricity post! A nice mix of young and old on site, nice to camp amongst quiet youngsters. As for the toliet block concerns some have raised......I didn't notice anything amiss myself. In fact I think sites like this offer good basic facilities. It's not a five start hotel after all! Perhaps that is what stops it being overcrowded.....suits me I rarely visit the lakes cos I don't like the crowds.....will definatly be going to Kendal again this year.

Very nice club site. Stopped here on our way to Scotland & again on our way back, considering using it as a base for this year's trip to Lakes/Dales. Convenient for Kendal town (& out of town supermarket/retail park) although you wouldn't know you were so close once you're on the site.

the Kendal site access road was badly potholed.allthough the staff where friendly and welcomeing, the site toilet block is not good enough (small/only two showerbooths/toilets and washhand basins)for todays 'camping and caravan club'. too small for the amount of persons trying to use the facilities.
we booked 2 nights but only stayed 1 night because of the poor block.
I think the club should remove this site from its books untill a new block is built.
