Unfortunately it has rained a lot so the site was sodden and the ground was so wet the warden could not cut the grass which was very long. Also the mower was broken. The wardens were very helpful and friendly and were trying to make the best of a bad site. The facilities are very tired and somewhat dilapidated .The access road is atrocious being full of deep potholes and were muddy and dirty. This site is in desperate need of money being spent to the need for a new toilet block and tarmac access road and better drainage. The childrens play area consists of 2 swings and a slide in a flooded field. All in all a very disappointing site which because of the area could be 1 of the best if it was updated correctly

The site is in a very nice part of the country.I have stayed there on a number of occasions but only because it is near my son and his wife .The site is very tired and the toilet facilities are very poor. The wardens do there best but you can only do so much with what they have to work with. The site service road is little more than a track with potholes etc.I think the club needs to really think about spending some money on this site at least on a new modern toilet block with some heat.Considering the size of the site there are insufficient toilets and showers. The electrics are suspect as well and when I was there last year were tripping out on a regular basis because they are in need of an update. With the right investment this sit could be 1 of the best because of its position.

I have visited this site many times over the past few years and I'm sorry to say that I feel that I have to post a negative review. The shower and washroom facilities in my opinion are a disgrace to the club. This is not the fault of the staff who are doing their absolute best but can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The washrooms are in the style of RAF camp 1950s and don't look as though any money has been spent on them this century. No heating, windows that won't close, no shelving to speak of and the few mirrors that are there are the wrong height. The hairdryers are an outrageously expensive joke. Ablutions are an unpleasant experience. The roads around the site are in need of repair with some major potholes which can't be easily avoided when towing. As if this wasn't bad enough the power supply doesn't seem adequate for the job. We have experienced several outages over the years.
This site should be downgraded to minimum facilities until a new shower block is built. I think its wrong to charge for what's available.
Having got that off my chest the site is very pleasant with some lovely trees and is really the only one in this part of Essex. It offers great access to what is an under rated county

The sites electricity supply is not enough for the size of the site. It constantly trips out.It needs upgrading. Equally the toilet block has no heating and needs modernising

We have just spent a night at this campsite it is a nice peaceful site with a friendly welcome by the park wardens. The toilet and shower blocks are well looked after and the overall impression is of very good housekeeping. If you are looking for a lively site this is not the place for you! It would probably benefit from a small shop with necessities such as bread, butter, milk etc! Just so you do not have to keep driving to the shops. But all in all we were happy and enjoyed a lovely night and were more than happy with the facilities.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Kelvedon Hatch. I must admit, that having read some reviews about this site we nearly didn't go, but I am really glad we did. We received a friendly welcome and were quickly shown which field to pitch in, but were given a huge choice of pitches (it was fairly quiet) and we opted for a large corner pitch.
The showers and toilet blocks are clearly old buildings, are on the dated side and could do with a fresh coat of paint. Having said that, as silly as it may sound, they have a bit of character about them and they were very clean. I do feel though that the showers would struggle at the height of the summer season. The 4 dish washing sinks are good and there is a good laundry room available.
This is a nice quiet site that we will return to.

In my opinion improved since May 2011 maybe the new managers are now more settled.
Although I am disappointed that the friendly feel to the site has gone and that activities are no longer organised such as a Halloween Fancy dress get together held previously.
The disabled toilet/shower area has provision for a disabled person to sit whilst dressing this had been removed in May 2011.
The facilities need an urgent upgrade as there is not enough facilities for the number of people there at times and the area is getting worse with already broken tiles not repaired and therefore breaking even more. This is not a local manager job but something the Club needs to sort out.
Good break after the Bank Holiday weekend but a nightmare during as there were long waits for the showers etc and the electric was tripping constantly.
The site needs looking at with regards the electrics as it cannot cope with the number of points it has and therefore number of electric sites should be cut or electrics upgraded. It is fine as long as site not full.
Overall a good site as long as you do not expect too much including TV reception and come in quieter periods

Had our first ever trip with a folding camper, I needed to be near the toilet block, this wasn't any problem and were given a pitch that was just right distance for us to the facilities. Toilets were nice and clean but do need updating, with only 3 showers for the whole site in the ladies section, can't comment on the gents...electric was very reliable, but wiFi was impossible, tv reception wasn't very good but not really bothered about that, the dog walk was excellent, and the whole site was really well kept, ideal if you want a nice quiet break, the childrens area is fairly basic so I don't think its best for children for a long holiday as i think they would get bored, on arrival the reception we got was superb, and was even asked if we qualify for the age concession, which made me laugh i didn't even realise that there was a concession. Enjoyed our few days so much that we have just booked a return visit in a couple of weeks, a longer one this time

A lovely, peaceful site, with friendly wardens who went out of their way to be helpful. Nearby nuclear bunker is worth a visit; close to Brentwood for shopping and trains to London. We needed internet access which was possible, but a bit temperamental, especially in windy weather. We would love to come again.

Stayed here at the end of half term and site was busy but toilet/shower facilities were always clean and always had plenty of hot water. Childrens play area very basic (2 swings and a small slide) and has alot of large trees in which made it difficult to play things like football with a group. Shop only good for icecreams and chocolate bars but plenty of shops nearby to stock up on supplys.

We have visited this site 3 times now, as it is within 1 hour of home. The wardens have always been very helpful and friendly. The site is peaceful and quiet, even during half-term the kids had settled down by 10:00 at night. The shop on site is basically for sweets and ice-creams so a short trip into Brentwood or North Weald market (Sat's & bank holidays) for provisions. The Showers and toilets are clean and hot water and pressure is fine.

Good site although the changes since the new wardens arrived are not all good. The site is now run on a more regimented basis apparently as per club rules.I will go back in the summer to see if things improve.
As a disabled person I found the facilities lacking due to the seat being removed from the disabled toilet/shower for me to use when dressing (apparently due to H & S but totally without thought of those needing the facilities). I cannot as many disabled people dress without being able to sit let alone balance precariously on wet tiles so no shower for me.
I was also offended by the initial response of sit on the toilet. NO this is not acceptable.

Our first visit to Kelvedon and our first CC&C site in fact. Access narrow with no passing possibilities; wardens friendly and guided us to pitch; hardstanding truly hard and rough even with groundsheet. We noticed some hardstandings seemed to have been refurbed - can this continue, please? We had no problems with TV reception, which was excellent, despite our old set-up. Number of showers disappointing for size of site (some permanently locked doors) and not particularly clean or welcoming. Four power cuts in the three nights we stayed (the Bank Holiday). Nice walk through to The Eagle pub. Water and bin area not lit. We enjoyed our stay and the site was very convenient for us: agree with other reviewers that some TLC is needed.

I first visited this site on an extremely busy weekend 3 years ago - the Wardens were great, friendly and a fountain of knowledge, they made it their business to discreetly 'check up' on you and certainly made you feel 'at home' without imposing - they made themselves known - certainly children were actively encouraged to keep to the play area & dogs out of it! At that time I would have had no hesitation in recommending this site, today unfortunately this is not the case;
I firmly believe that if the new Wardens were to enforce Club Rules this would make a 100% difference to the atmosphere on this site. The electricity supply also needs addressing - it tripped out on a regular occasion - The excuse that 'the site is busy' & that 'the Club need to do something about this' doesn't really wash - does this mean that they now have a regular problem throughout the summer months? The site amenities are 'sad' and the Wardens report that as soon as it quietens down they will be applying a lick of paint. As to other reports of cleanliness issues - we did not find this to be the case, everywhere was as clean as the general build allows and bins were emptied on a regular occasion.
All in all this site is no longer the quiet getaway that it used to be - this is down to lack of Warden control.
The C&CC works because it sets rules/standards - the Wardens are there to enforce - for the sake of sleep loving campers everywhere who prefer their units not to be plagued by other peoples children, various balls, kites, frisbies etc - please enforce!

Lovely little campsite possibly in need of a revamp.Staff were friendly ,helpful and kept busy.Site was clean and tidy with plenty of space. The only problem we had was the nightly tripping of the electric which the staff were quick to reset. Both our families had disabled persons to care for and found it vary accessible( the good weather probably helped). We will definitely visit again.

We've been coming here for over 10 years and really love the site as it is close to a atown centre but so secluded. I would recommend this to friends but only if they don't miind cold'ish toilet blacks and a bit old fashioned. This ground acan be very boggy and not pleasand at all in bad weather. The site BH weekend was packed to say the least. My mother is disabled and allowing two families in different rows to go unit to unit with their windbreaks thus cutting off the only water/bin area and having to walk around them was not good judgement on the the wardens part. This would never have happened last year. However there was flexibility in how you parked your van within reason. THe field water tap area is not lit up at night, most hardstandings very unkempt and uncomfortable to use and the entrance attractive but extremely narrow. Campers arriving an hour early (four banked up in total) made it impossible to leave the site as passing was impossible as is reversing with your unit! Early arrivals should have an area to wait away from the entrance which would be easy to widen outside the reception and put an end to this unecessary conjestion! All this said, we love it here and it's old charm and visit regularly, just do something about the access and hardstandings PLEASE!!!! THe dog walk is very good, TV reception terrible so don't expect much - anyway, it's a time to get away from it all isn't it?!

Kelvedon Hatch is our nearest C&CC site and, as we had never used it before, we opted to make it the equipment testing first camping trip of the year. The site was clean and tidy, remote, but close enough to London if you want to get into the City. The new staff were friendly. Whilst the shop stocked very little, the biggest disappointment was the toilet block. Peeling paint from walls and ceilings, breeze block walls full of old screw holes, no ability to control the lights, 30 seconds of hair drying for 20p and no shelves - luckily we were less than 10 miles from home so a shower in near darkness could be deferred. Kelvedon Hatch has by far the grimmest toilet block of the 21 C&CC sites our family has visited. If you are booking with a tent or campervan and need to rely on the on site facilties we would seriously recommend going elsewhere!

The site road is pretty rough and in need of a resurface. Some of the hardstandings on the left side as you enter are also pretty tired and could do with refurbishing. For a site like this there is only 1 service point in the middle of the field which gets very muddy because of poor drainage.I stay here because it is close to my son or else it would not be my first choice.I have a dog so the dog walk is a welcome addition. All in all a site which is in need of a good referb

This was our 4th visit as it is close to home but different enough to be a holiday. A relaxing break at a friendly site. The teenage kids always happy (even without the computer and they rarely look at the TV) as they make friends with others on site. Younger children are safe andcan play freely often joining older kids to play schoolyard games.
John & Sue the site wardens are very friendly and helpful which is more than I can say for some sites we have visited. They always put themselves out to help newcomers to the camping / caravanning scene.
