We found the welcome very friendly and helpful. The wardens spoke to us for some time on our arrival. The pitch was good and well tended. Fairly busy because of Fathers Day. Quite a lot of children and they were all well behaved making use of the children's area. Dog walk excellent. Facilities were very clean and perhaps a little outdated but soon (a notice declares) to be updated. This includes a new reception road surface and amenity block. Many walks around the site and lovely houses. Plenty to see around in villages and towns. the Nuclear Bunker is great. Do pay a visit!!

We stayed at this site over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in May, the site itself is very nice, secluded, and peaceful, few issues we found are the sites facilities are getting a bit tired, and as the site was full this showed with the toilet and showers being full, they are as clean as they can be for the age.. wardens are very regimental and often come across as not very customer friendly, speaking to others on the site and they were saying the same.. shame really, a great weekend was had by all...

We have now camped here on two occasions and we are more than happy with the site. It is a lovely secluded site with a very rural feel, myself and my two young boys (7&4) enjoyed walking around the dog walk (without a dog) looking at the plant life and trees. We will be visiting again soon with my elderly parents staying as well in their own camper van.
We found the site very friendly and the boys made lots of friends and had a great time running around and playing football etc.
The only downside is the lack of washing up facilities (one sink, and no refuse bin in this area). A couple more sinks would make this tiresome job a lot easier.
Thanks again.
see you again soon.

Ist time here was bank holiday in may. The staff was friendly and very helpful with all our needs and very clean campsite. The site itself very quite and relaxing and we did not want to go. I had a operation only a few weeks ago and needed some relaxing time and this place was perfect felt so much better after a couple of days here.Would like to say many thanks to the staff and all that work there for a great week end. We have also joined there before we left and now looking forward to many more happy days there.

This site is very quiet and peaceful and just right for a relaxing break. Thankfully the electrics have now been updated and work fine.
Although the toilet block is old and getting tatty it is kep very clean, but the downside for us was the lack of heating. It was freezing and I could not bath my little granddaughter in the baby room, it was much too cold for a baby. If the club has no intention of updating these facilities then surely they could at least install some form of heating.
The site was pretty empty and I am sure numbers would improve if a new toilet block was built. I will not return when the weather is a bit nippy!

The wardens at this site deserve a medal. They never stopped working the whole time we were there, despite not having any assistants to help them, and not having had a day off. They were incredibly helpful, cheerful and welcoming, in fact they were without doubt the best wardens we have ever met on a club site. The site was much prettier than we ever expected, really rural and the facilities were lovely and clean. We will definitely be returning when the weather improves, lets hope the club will spend some money there, it would be well worth it. Lovely.

I can't believe some of the people who wrote reviews actually stayed on the same site... yes the club itself has BADLY neglected this site, but the staff did an incredible job this year fighting the elements and under investment. During 2011 the power on site was a massive problem and it seemed to be better in 2012.
Despite this the staff did an incredible job to ensure my tent had a pitch available (and its not a small tent and we stayed several times a month last year).
There are two sets of dishwashing places and the facilities are more than adequate, if old.
It's a lovely site with two fields. Incredibly secluded and beautiful site yet only a few minutes from the M25!

Another succesful break - site wardens were very friendly & helpful all holiday starting with putting us next to our friends & then helping to tow us off pitch in torrential downpour at end. very disappointed in negative comments on this site - yes the site needs its electrics up-dated and yes the shower block was not heated presumably to direct the electric to the caravans instead, but the showers were clean hot and relaxing what more could you need. the wardens could not have been more helpful and the week went far to quickly. we are looking forward to next season, but hope the club have updated the electric system by the start of the new season.

Hardstanding pitch - but with no gravel, unlike others that were empty but apparently unavailable. Ended up with mud bath and water feature in awning. Washing up facilities closed for cleaning for all 5 days that we were there. Half of toilet facilities out of use. Warden only seen on arrival and on going out of the site on last 2 days when he appeared to be on a one man mission to be getting his van ready for the end of season get away. Wont be going back to this site.

I have seen some reviews on here which defy belief (spicey). I was there at the same time and thought the site was excellent, i dont understand people who complain about old facilities and then say they were clean and always hot water, what's the problem with an old toilet if it works or an old shower if its hot, we were there for two weeks for the Olympics sightseeing and relaxing. And we had a great time, there were some Olympic staff on site, they were up early and back late and they worked bloody hard, so well done whoever you were. the site is excellent but has problems with electricity supply, they solved this by taking a reduced amount of bookings for electric hookup, ours never went off so well done them. The play area is a swamp but they were working hard to drain it, All in all a good site and with some investment a great site.

This is a nice site suffering from apparent neglect by the club, we found that there were problems with waterlogging and the play area was a bog. This is one of the worst clubsites i have used in respect to its facilities which whilst clean were outdated and poor standard. High time the club started to invest in toilet/shower facilities and bring them into the 21st century. All that said, the wardens were very friendly.

We have been visiting this site for well over 15 years, usually 5/6 times a year and can say mostly during that time site Wardens have been very friendly and helpful but, and this is a big but, the site facilities have over the years been getting worse and worse up to the point that we have only visited the site twice a year over the past two years, the access roads around the site are beyond words during bad weather. The new hardstandings, although very welcome, are of such a low quality that they are difficult to drive on and off of.
The site is in such a lovely part of the county, being the only one we have in Essex and on a lovely warm summer evening there is no where else you'd want to be but, this site is in desperate need of serious updating and if this is not done I am afraid people will stop going and we could lose this lovely peaceful haven.

we felt this site was too much on the comercial side rather than a club site. we arrived on the Thursday and the one shower block, though with two sides, was not swept or mopped out till the Saturday. i asked if i could connect to electric but was told they were fully booked, even though three pitches around me remained vacant for the duration i was there. went for a cycles ride down the narrow lanes around the site but they were very busy with fast cars not caring that we were on bikes. only 6 miles from train station to visit London.

The club seriously needs to address their attitude to capital investment. Why spend large sums on Log Cabins, Pods and the like when sites like this are in desperate need of upgrading. This is without doubt the worst appointed, and most poorly managed Club site we have visited. Half the electric hook ups were not working, there was very little on site lighting especially between the entrance and the fields, the grass was not cut in the 2 weeks we were on site, and the facilities were 1970's at best (albeit kept clean). We were left in no doubt that Volunteers for the Olympics were nothing but a pain although a large number were on site, although the parking rules were relaxed after the first week. It also seemed to us that there were several "regular" users of the site who were obviously treated differently to one off visitors like us. Not a site we will be visiting again.

I returned to this site in June 2012 after a break of 11 months (beyond my control), the difference in management was truley noticable, Ralph & Irene and Steve & Sue make you so welcome to their site, they have all work very hard to get this site back up and running as it seemed to slip last year but saying that you can only do so much with what you have got, the CLUB need to seriously spend money here, the childrens play field has just dried out due to poor drainage, the roadway all around the site is full of potholes, the electric needs to be sorted out as 40% of pitches not usable( i understand this is earmarked fot the winter), a tree sugeon is badly needed to take out all the dead wood in the trees ALL around the site, a lot of the hardstanding pitches are getting overgrown with weeds so the pitch is not defined, the toilet blocks do need to be updated but they are kept very clean and tidy, on having my little moan none of the above faults are under the control of the staff who in my opinion are doing an excelent job trying to do their best with whats available so come on club management put your hand in your pocket and get it back up to a standard, we dont want a bar and swimming pool but what we do have to be in full working order. once again 5* to to the site staff,

Arrived just before 12 on the first day and joined a line of other campers awaiting check in , this was a long 30 minute wait until someone appeared at the desk and started to process us .
this was again a long wait while they went through the booking in procedure and after just over an hour on site we at last were taken to our spot , and basically left to it after mentioning where everything was he disappeared.
that was not a warm welcome that the club paperworks say you will receive .
the tent erected we got some water and made a cuppa , a quick look around found the facilities clean and well presented although some of the mirrors could do with raising a bit . the washing up facilities were good with hot water filling the sink within 20 seconds but again if more than 1 person is at the other sink it becomes very crowded , perhaps another couple of units might ease the congestion . the lighting was poor around the site with shadows leading to a bit of confusion during the nightime loo run.
Although a clean site this is definately one for the older couple with nothing very much for the kids to do ,

Unfortunately it has rained a lot so the site was sodden and the ground was so wet the warden could not cut the grass which was very long. Also the mower was broken. The wardens were very helpful and friendly and were trying to make the best of a bad site. The facilities are very tired and somewhat dilapidated .The access road is atrocious being full of deep potholes and were muddy and dirty. This site is in desperate need of money being spent to the need for a new toilet block and tarmac access road and better drainage. The childrens play area consists of 2 swings and a slide in a flooded field. All in all a very disappointing site which because of the area could be 1 of the best if it was updated correctly

The site is in a very nice part of the country.I have stayed there on a number of occasions but only because it is near my son and his wife .The site is very tired and the toilet facilities are very poor. The wardens do there best but you can only do so much with what they have to work with. The site service road is little more than a track with potholes etc.I think the club needs to really think about spending some money on this site at least on a new modern toilet block with some heat.Considering the size of the site there are insufficient toilets and showers. The electrics are suspect as well and when I was there last year were tripping out on a regular basis because they are in need of an update. With the right investment this sit could be 1 of the best because of its position.

I have visited this site many times over the past few years and I'm sorry to say that I feel that I have to post a negative review. The shower and washroom facilities in my opinion are a disgrace to the club. This is not the fault of the staff who are doing their absolute best but can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The washrooms are in the style of RAF camp 1950s and don't look as though any money has been spent on them this century. No heating, windows that won't close, no shelving to speak of and the few mirrors that are there are the wrong height. The hairdryers are an outrageously expensive joke. Ablutions are an unpleasant experience. The roads around the site are in need of repair with some major potholes which can't be easily avoided when towing. As if this wasn't bad enough the power supply doesn't seem adequate for the job. We have experienced several outages over the years.
This site should be downgraded to minimum facilities until a new shower block is built. I think its wrong to charge for what's available.
Having got that off my chest the site is very pleasant with some lovely trees and is really the only one in this part of Essex. It offers great access to what is an under rated county

We have just spent a night at this campsite it is a nice peaceful site with a friendly welcome by the park wardens. The toilet and shower blocks are well looked after and the overall impression is of very good housekeeping. If you are looking for a lively site this is not the place for you! It would probably benefit from a small shop with necessities such as bread, butter, milk etc! Just so you do not have to keep driving to the shops. But all in all we were happy and enjoyed a lovely night and were more than happy with the facilities.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Kelvedon Hatch. I must admit, that having read some reviews about this site we nearly didn't go, but I am really glad we did. We received a friendly welcome and were quickly shown which field to pitch in, but were given a huge choice of pitches (it was fairly quiet) and we opted for a large corner pitch.
The showers and toilet blocks are clearly old buildings, are on the dated side and could do with a fresh coat of paint. Having said that, as silly as it may sound, they have a bit of character about them and they were very clean. I do feel though that the showers would struggle at the height of the summer season. The 4 dish washing sinks are good and there is a good laundry room available.
This is a nice quiet site that we will return to.

In my opinion improved since May 2011 maybe the new managers are now more settled.
Although I am disappointed that the friendly feel to the site has gone and that activities are no longer organised such as a Halloween Fancy dress get together held previously.
The disabled toilet/shower area has provision for a disabled person to sit whilst dressing this had been removed in May 2011.
The facilities need an urgent upgrade as there is not enough facilities for the number of people there at times and the area is getting worse with already broken tiles not repaired and therefore breaking even more. This is not a local manager job but something the Club needs to sort out.
Good break after the Bank Holiday weekend but a nightmare during as there were long waits for the showers etc and the electric was tripping constantly.
The site needs looking at with regards the electrics as it cannot cope with the number of points it has and therefore number of electric sites should be cut or electrics upgraded. It is fine as long as site not full.
Overall a good site as long as you do not expect too much including TV reception and come in quieter periods

Had our first ever trip with a folding camper, I needed to be near the toilet block, this wasn't any problem and were given a pitch that was just right distance for us to the facilities. Toilets were nice and clean but do need updating, with only 3 showers for the whole site in the ladies section, can't comment on the gents...electric was very reliable, but wiFi was impossible, tv reception wasn't very good but not really bothered about that, the dog walk was excellent, and the whole site was really well kept, ideal if you want a nice quiet break, the childrens area is fairly basic so I don't think its best for children for a long holiday as i think they would get bored, on arrival the reception we got was superb, and was even asked if we qualify for the age concession, which made me laugh i didn't even realise that there was a concession. Enjoyed our few days so much that we have just booked a return visit in a couple of weeks, a longer one this time

Good site although the changes since the new wardens arrived are not all good. The site is now run on a more regimented basis apparently as per club rules.I will go back in the summer to see if things improve.
As a disabled person I found the facilities lacking due to the seat being removed from the disabled toilet/shower for me to use when dressing (apparently due to H & S but totally without thought of those needing the facilities). I cannot as many disabled people dress without being able to sit let alone balance precariously on wet tiles so no shower for me.
I was also offended by the initial response of sit on the toilet. NO this is not acceptable.

Our first visit to Kelvedon and our first CC&C site in fact. Access narrow with no passing possibilities; wardens friendly and guided us to pitch; hardstanding truly hard and rough even with groundsheet. We noticed some hardstandings seemed to have been refurbed - can this continue, please? We had no problems with TV reception, which was excellent, despite our old set-up. Number of showers disappointing for size of site (some permanently locked doors) and not particularly clean or welcoming. Four power cuts in the three nights we stayed (the Bank Holiday). Nice walk through to The Eagle pub. Water and bin area not lit. We enjoyed our stay and the site was very convenient for us: agree with other reviewers that some TLC is needed.

I first visited this site on an extremely busy weekend 3 years ago - the Wardens were great, friendly and a fountain of knowledge, they made it their business to discreetly 'check up' on you and certainly made you feel 'at home' without imposing - they made themselves known - certainly children were actively encouraged to keep to the play area & dogs out of it! At that time I would have had no hesitation in recommending this site, today unfortunately this is not the case;
I firmly believe that if the new Wardens were to enforce Club Rules this would make a 100% difference to the atmosphere on this site. The electricity supply also needs addressing - it tripped out on a regular occasion - The excuse that 'the site is busy' & that 'the Club need to do something about this' doesn't really wash - does this mean that they now have a regular problem throughout the summer months? The site amenities are 'sad' and the Wardens report that as soon as it quietens down they will be applying a lick of paint. As to other reports of cleanliness issues - we did not find this to be the case, everywhere was as clean as the general build allows and bins were emptied on a regular occasion.
All in all this site is no longer the quiet getaway that it used to be - this is down to lack of Warden control.
The C&CC works because it sets rules/standards - the Wardens are there to enforce - for the sake of sleep loving campers everywhere who prefer their units not to be plagued by other peoples children, various balls, kites, frisbies etc - please enforce!

Lovely little campsite possibly in need of a revamp.Staff were friendly ,helpful and kept busy.Site was clean and tidy with plenty of space. The only problem we had was the nightly tripping of the electric which the staff were quick to reset. Both our families had disabled persons to care for and found it vary accessible( the good weather probably helped). We will definitely visit again.

We've been coming here for over 10 years and really love the site as it is close to a atown centre but so secluded. I would recommend this to friends but only if they don't miind cold'ish toilet blacks and a bit old fashioned. This ground acan be very boggy and not pleasand at all in bad weather. The site BH weekend was packed to say the least. My mother is disabled and allowing two families in different rows to go unit to unit with their windbreaks thus cutting off the only water/bin area and having to walk around them was not good judgement on the the wardens part. This would never have happened last year. However there was flexibility in how you parked your van within reason. THe field water tap area is not lit up at night, most hardstandings very unkempt and uncomfortable to use and the entrance attractive but extremely narrow. Campers arriving an hour early (four banked up in total) made it impossible to leave the site as passing was impossible as is reversing with your unit! Early arrivals should have an area to wait away from the entrance which would be easy to widen outside the reception and put an end to this unecessary conjestion! All this said, we love it here and it's old charm and visit regularly, just do something about the access and hardstandings PLEASE!!!! THe dog walk is very good, TV reception terrible so don't expect much - anyway, it's a time to get away from it all isn't it?!

Kelvedon Hatch is our nearest C&CC site and, as we had never used it before, we opted to make it the equipment testing first camping trip of the year. The site was clean and tidy, remote, but close enough to London if you want to get into the City. The new staff were friendly. Whilst the shop stocked very little, the biggest disappointment was the toilet block. Peeling paint from walls and ceilings, breeze block walls full of old screw holes, no ability to control the lights, 30 seconds of hair drying for 20p and no shelves - luckily we were less than 10 miles from home so a shower in near darkness could be deferred. Kelvedon Hatch has by far the grimmest toilet block of the 21 C&CC sites our family has visited. If you are booking with a tent or campervan and need to rely on the on site facilties we would seriously recommend going elsewhere!

The site road is pretty rough and in need of a resurface. Some of the hardstandings on the left side as you enter are also pretty tired and could do with refurbishing. For a site like this there is only 1 service point in the middle of the field which gets very muddy because of poor drainage.I stay here because it is close to my son or else it would not be my first choice.I have a dog so the dog walk is a welcome addition. All in all a site which is in need of a good referb

We arrived the day it opened for 2011. Met new wardens.Very friendly. The site is a mess. Difficult access, site roads have potholes, hard standing pitches not wide enough, and toilet blocks cold and really in a mess. Not up to club standards.NO MENTION THAT THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO TV RECEPTION!!! Wireless access virtually zero. Would not visit again.

Hi there, club site lovely position close to London very friendly staff some units are in dire need of attention it looks like they stay there all the time, toilets were cleaned every day but some kids were in sore need of parental attention as they made a mess in the toilet block kids were also running in and out of the disabled toilet leaving a mess with no keys for disabled toilet it was very difficult to get into toilet at times apart from that a very nice site

Situated a long way down a country lane, this site does not quite measure up to the usual Club Site standard. Sanitary facilities are clean but a bit shoddy. Convenient if visiting Essex but would not choose it for a holiday.

This was our 4th visit as it is close to home but different enough to be a holiday. A relaxing break at a friendly site. The teenage kids always happy (even without the computer and they rarely look at the TV) as they make friends with others on site. Younger children are safe andcan play freely often joining older kids to play schoolyard games.
John & Sue the site wardens are very friendly and helpful which is more than I can say for some sites we have visited. They always put themselves out to help newcomers to the camping / caravanning scene.

Absolutely fantastic weekend break , wanted to stay longer, the managers (Sue and John) are so friendly, kind and make you so welcome, the children had so much fun, toilets / showers /washing up area and laundry area were very spotlessly clean, so we will definitely back and would highly recommend this site.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
