"A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby. "
Trees from the Camping and Caravanning Club's Centenary Wood - planted in 2001- are now flourishing at this lovely Club Site on the Kennet and Avon Canal. The surrounding countryside includes some of the UK's most significant prehistoric sites - and you can camp here at any time of the year.

A lovely site, so well run by the friendly and efficient staff.
Excellent facilities which are immaculate. Indeed the whole site is tidy and clean, even the nettle cover in the dog field is neatly strimmed ( it provides cover for the wild rabbits )
The dog field is a bonus, well mown, fenced, shovels, a dog poo bin and MOST owners clean up after the dogs, although the wardens have been left to clean up after a few thoughtless people. Come on, dog owners, just be responsible!
A lovely site, a short bus ride or drive to Devizes, right next to the Kennet and Avon Canal. Bath, Bradford on Avon and Salisbury are also quite easy to reach.

A lovely site, well protected by the trees. It's next to the canal but you aren't especially aware of that as it's not in view. The toilet block is kept very clean and the site managers are always on the go cutting hedges and keeping the site in order. It was half term week so there were lots of children whizzing about on bikes and scooters but they didn't make a nuisance of themselves. The pub, The Three Magpies, is within a very short walk and pleasant for an evening meal. Two days a week they do a 2course lunch for £7 which was good value. If you are thinking of going into Devizes the bus journey doesn't take long and it's then a nice walk back, through the locks, along the canal. There's a tearoom at Caen Hill locks which serves welcome refreshments.I wouldn't attempt to walk to Devizes unless you are very fit-it's a long, slow hill up the flight of locks. There's plenty to do in the area - Bath and Salisbury and both easy to get to and have Park and Rides. All in all the site makes a good base for exploring the area.

We have just spend the 2 most relaxing days ever at this friendly site. Everybody staying there were as friendly as you could ask for. Nothing was too much trouble for the members of staff. A very big thankyou.
SUITABLE FOR: Peaceful break
This site complies with the Club's usual high standards for hygiene and helpfulness as well as being quiet and picturesque. Yet it's near the village pub which does good grub, and a very pretty walk into Devizes along the canal.

We just wanted to write and say what excellent service we got at this campsite! We arrived for our first camping trip to discover our new tent came with no poles!!! We were horrified but the lovely people at the campsite so kindly offered to lend us a tent and totally rescued us!!! We are so appreciative and we just loved the site - so peaceful, so family friendly and the pub by the canal (The Barge Inn) provided us with a fabulous lunch! Thanks so much, we will be back!
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Active break,Peaceful break
Our first experience of a C&CC club site was the wonderful site at Devizes. Right by the canal with great facilities for couples, families and pets.
The way the site is laid out means that there are quiet spots that would be perfect for a secluded break but also busier areas in the middle where families could stay close to the facilities and the play area.
Pete & Dawn couldn't have been more helpful and we had a great break despite the awfully cold weather.

We had a lovely bank holiday weekend when we stayed here at Devizes.
The wardens were probably amongst the friendliest and most helpful we've ever met.
The site is alongside the Kennet and Avon canal, with its amazing 29 locks. We cycled up the canal to Devizes and had lunch at the cafe in the wharf, which we would also recommend (and they had clean toilet facilities!). The cycle back was easier as it was down hill!
The site was peaceful, and well kept and the toilet/shower block was clean all the time we were there.
Only one negative i can think of would be that there are only 4 showers in each of the ladies and men's facilities, and when you have the misfortune of coming in just behind 5 teenage girls, you can imagine the waiting time! Not enough to put us off returning to this lovely site, though, just worth a warning to pick your shower time carefully!
The motorhome disposal point had plenty of room for manoeuvring.
The children's play area was delightful, with two swings and a small climbing frame/slide, which our two boys loved. Really good flat tarmac on the road of the site perfect for teaching the little ones to ride their own bikes without stabilisers.
Thanks to all at Devizes, who also let us stay on for a few hours after our due departure time on Monday in return for a contribution to their flower fund :)
What a lovely site this is. The facilities are spotless.
For the chldren there is a play area, playing field for ball games and tarmac roads perfect for bikes & scooters.
For the dogs there is an enclosed run and walk on site.
The canal walks are lovely and there is also a pub with play area just round the corner from the site.
What more could you ask for, we will definately be back.
This was our second visit to this site. As before, we were welcomed and placed on our pitch. Realy helpful staff. We had planned to meet with some friends for two of the nights and the staff sorted out the pitches without any fuss and put them on a pitch next to ours. The site is spotless and the facilities immaculate. We have been to a number of sites and this one is one of our favourites. Its easy to get to, nice and quiet. Some great places to visit nearby and a pub right next to the site. Good old fashioned pub, simple pub grub and great local ales. We will deffinately be back.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Peaceful break
Only stayed two nights for first outing of season - bitterley cold even puddles on towpath were solid ice. Facilities brilliant as were staff can imagine would be great in better weather and plenty to see and visit. nwould certainly recommend.

Had a great 6 night, stay Pete and Dawn were extremely helpful, especially when we had problems with our water system, Pete and a colleague came to our rescue and fixed it for us, despite being out of normal opening hours. They were always smiling and always said hello to our little boy, remember his name.
Will definitely return for another great holiday.
this was the first time for me and my wife at this site ...and wow!! such a lovely site so clean , we had a lovely welcome at the reception , and was shown to are plot by a member of staff , the shower block and toilets are so clean and warm just like home !..we joined the club when we were at the reception this was no problem ...we are looking forward to going back soon , we recommend this one .lovely site
This was our first visit to a Camping and Caravan site. We were both impressed by the friendliness of the staff. The Toilet block was immaculate.
With the canal right on the doorstep plenty of walking/cycling was available with Devizes not too far away.
The work being done by the Volunteers on the hedging was immpressive. I have also booked into Rhandamyn so if it is half as good we should have a great time.
Another lovely break on this site. The wardens do a fantastic job. Great location by the canal. One gripe we have recently become dog owners again after many years without and cannot believe people do not clear up after their dogs. There was a hand shovel provided at the dog field so no excuse for not having a poo bag to hand. Who do they think will clear it up?
DATE STAYED: February 2013
Just a sort break but lovely site and location
DATE STAYED: February 2008

Probably the wettest weekend of the Winter so far - yes I know there have been many - site in excellent condition given the circumstances, neat, clean, tidy & some magnificent hedgework along the canal boundary. Toilet block seemed a little small & might be an issue if busy, shower units would be better if they had a bench rather than plastic stool & more hooks. Otherwise excellent. Seemed a long way to water & waste water disposal points particularly when its raining cats a dogs. Thats the only down points really. Friendly, helpful wardens & a decent pub nearby. Loved the canal & locks (Devizes ok for half a day) & plenty of other places to see if you want a drive.
stayed over the Christmas and New Year and had a great time. Good facilities but no clubroom, or enclosed area, in which members could relax and investigate all the surrounding attractions. Wardens were so helpful and went out of their way to make sure that you had the best of stays. Weather was terrible but the constant smiles of all the staff helped to brighten
1 the dreary days.
DATE STAYED: December 2012
Excellent site next door to the Kennet and Avon canal which takes you into Devizes. Very friendly site and spotlessly clean. Good local pub closely which allows dogs in bar.
DATE STAYED: January 2013
We booked this site for our first Christmas break in the caravan and were not disappointed. The facilities were excellent - very clean and tidy showers, washrooms etc. Pete and Dawn were the perfect hosts - always on hand and would make a point of stopping for a chat to ensure that we were having an enjoyable time. Would have no hesitation in recommending this site to our friends and are certainly looking forward to visiting again in the near future. Hopefully there will be less rainfall which we understand is very unusual so that we are able to enjoy the walks along the canal. Many thanks for a lovely stay.
Excellent site, lovely friendly staff, considering the weather conditions the site was immaculate. Lovely hot showers. Very good Pub next door.
This was our first experience of a club site and it was outstanding! The wardens Pete and Dawn were so friendly and helpful. Pete guided us to our choice of pitch (on his cycle) checked that we were completely happy with the pitch and even help guide us reverse into the pitch. The shower/toilet block was spotless and the grounds all around the site were immaculate. The canal runs alongside the site which was lovely to walk alongside on a frosty morning. Can't wait to go back!
A very belated thankyou to Pete & Dawn for a wonderful stay at Devises site, we had our usual 3 weeks at the site in September. Although we have used the site every year since it opened, it is the very first time that I have had the urge to write a review of any kind. WHAT A FANTASTIC JOB YOU ARE DOING, it reflects on you how busy the site is, and how many repeat bookings you are getting this is down to your hard work and leadership. We look forward to seeing you both & and your staff in 2013

Cannot fault the site at all. We enjoyed a relaxing time there, everyone was so friendly. Close to canal with boats. Beautiful area. Good bus route to Devizes, Melksham, Bath & Bristol. Easily accessible for all vehicles. Vey clean & tidy site.

we have done 5 club sites in the last year or so and found this to be the friendliest welcome to date. The site is expertly managed by the team and is imaculate in apperance even in october with unusualy heavy rain.we totally enjoyed our stay due to all these factors many thanks to those concerened.
DATE STAYED: October 2012
we have stayed on many club sites over the last 40 years or more, and would say that this is one of the best.
the wardens and staff were very helpful and friendly and the facilities were spot on
the site is extremely well kept and the woodland walk is an absolute joy.
with plenty of things to do and see in the area we will certainly be back
This is a gem of a site. We (and our border collies) love it. Wardens very helpful and friendly. A lovely situation on the banks of the canal, superb walks. It is kept very clean and tidy and there is so much to see and do in the area. Devizes is a lovely market town (very good market each Thursday) & the Bear in the market square is a must for morning coiffee. Likewise the Magpies pub has excellent reasonably priced food.
When we stayed we found that like us, everyone cleaned up after their dogs - very important - and generally we could not fault it. We love to relax and read in the morning - only problem we had to drive into Seend to buy newspapers. But only a minor point. We use this site frequently when visiting friends in the area and will continue to do so.
We have visited three times this year and love it. It's so welcoming and peaceful with some great walks nearby.
The team are fantastic (great macmillam coffee afternoon ) nothing is too much for them and they love our two trailhounds who are always fussed over. The site is beautiful, ideal for a relaxing break but near to amenities and attractions. We'll definitely be back many more times.
Very friendly, helpful welcome Lovely site, facilities were very very clean.
Lots to do locally, will recommend and go back

We stayed here in september 2012. This is a real gem of a site. We can't speak highly enough of the staff, the site, well everything was totally 5 stars.
Superb site. Plenty of room and good lanscaping gave a more secluded feel. All facilities on site were as needed and the staff are both professional and lovely. A lot of sites have nice people who are not so skilled...
The cycle trail along the towpath makes cycling a pleasure and the 19 miles to Bath is both flat and full of different scenery. Just half way to Bradford is also worth the effort. The other way sees the 29 locks to Devizes, a town that has everything you need.
Yappy dogs not the fault of the site but owners should be more considerate at 7am when they let them out of the van.
A longer stay to take in the walks away from the canal next time.
Best combo of site and location I've found so far.
The site managers here set the standard for the C&CC. Oustanding, professional, friendly and hard working. This site is a real gem - probably because of them.
A lovely, quiet secluded country retreat, with lots of fantastic walks from the site and a great pub at the end of the driveway.
May go for two weeks when we stay next season.
A well run and friendly site. Site wardens very professional in the way they carry out thier duties. As a new member I was made to feel at home and relaxed straight away, Thanks.
Our family have just returned from a 14 night stay at this site, and cannot praise the wardens or the site enough. Pete, Dawn and the assistant wardens could not do enough to make you feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The site was immaculate as they all worked extremely hard to maintain a high standard. We all enjoyed the walks down by the canal, especially our dog. The site is very well placed to visit many attractions, some of which were pointed out by the staff.
This is a site we cannot praise enough, and will visit again.
Thank you for a great holiday. Best site ever!!
Convenient for walks along canal. Easy reach of Devizes and Melksham for shopping. Pitches sizeable and very well kept. Staff always friendly, pleasant and helpful. Facilities always spotless and generally uncrowded.
Even though school holidays children were not an intrusion as there were large play areas for them. Our nervous cat was obviously quite relaxed and able to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air without rushing in to the van when anyone passed by.
We will look forward to returning as soon as we can.
We will certa
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Peaceful break,Younger couples
We would like to compliment the wardens for their friendliness, assistance and care. As for the site, we found it very welcoming with neighbours and other caravanners and campers on the site. We couldn't wish for a nicer place to stay in the country and near the canal which offers so much. We look forward to coming back again
Five stars is not enough for this site. The team are all very helpful and friendly and clearly take a pride in the site and it shows. They go the extra mile with lovely flowers etc.
I would have made this a site for a peaceful break but too often the peace was shattered by yapping dogs whose inconsiderate owners did nothing to stop them. Even some of the other dog owners were complaining, Cannot blame the site team but perhaps a case for setting aside an area for those without dogs.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples
A really good site. Clean and very well kept. Lots of very helpful site assistants, and all very friendly. We were put in a nice quiet corner, and the area was well drained (it needed to be!) and un-crowded. Nice pub with food in short walking distance (welcomed kids), close to Bath and Longleat. Will definitely be back.
What a cracking site, the wardens were so helpful and friendly, we arrived with friends, the warden helped us to set up next to each other, which was great.
The site is lovely, clean and with hedging to make you feel more private. The towpath is very handy for walks, and there is a pub very near, which we didn't visit on this trip, but hope to next time. Our friends were so impressed with the site, that they have now joined the C&CC! Will definitely be back again soon.
DATE STAYED: July 2012
This was a excellent site to stay on,one of the best. The wardens were all very helpful & friendly nothing was to much trouble. All amenities were of a very good standard. The surrounding area was very nice with plenty to do.Plenty of walking. local pub only just down the road also bus stop on door step.We will be coming back. keep the good work up. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Lovely site, very friendly and helpfull staff. Not really anything for older children to do, but perfect for a peacefull break, and lovely walks by the canal. Will definitely go again!
This was a return visit to this site as we enjoyed our last so much. Pete, Dawn and the team made us so welcome and could not do enough to help us. The site is immaculately kept and is set alongside the Kennet and Avon Canal which provides great walks or cycle rides. There is a pub just nearby for those who might wish to dine out.
We will be back again soon.
this is a very very clean and tidy site.all the staff i met were very friendly.the site is one of the best kept i have stayed on but to get this a hedge or pitch is cut every day so no quiet days on site. there are only 4 showers ( mens block for 90 pitches ) so if you dont want to que you will have to use your own unit as i did.
Just spent a wonderful ten days at Devizes. The Wardens were so kind and helpful we will certainly visit again. Wonderful to use the bus pass to Devizes made life easier. Plenty of interesting places to visit. The Site was exceptionally well kept and neat. The shower block was clean but could do with a bit of an upgrade as it looked tired. Nevertheless we cannot fault it one bit. Well done The Wardens.
From the initial welcome the friendliness of all of the staff throughout our stay was exceptional.Their attitude to us as visitors was friendly and nothing was too much trouble, advice on local areas to visit, places to eat, easy to chat to.The condition of the site was a real credit to all the staff and a flag ship to the club.Congratulation Peter and Dawn and the Boys and Girls. We shall RETURN!!
A beautiful site and a very friendly welcome from very helpful staff. Clean facilities. Lovely walks along adjacent canal and nearby footpaths. We intend to visit again.
My only 'complaint' was that the showers do not have a temperature control - I found them to be rather too hot, especially given the hot weather outside and would have preferred to be able to lower the water temperature.
SUITABLE FOR: Families
We had original booked a 3 night break at this site to visit Longleat, due to the site being friendly, having good pitches, excellent staff and great weather we decieded to stay for an additional 6 nights. The facilities where very clean and well maintained, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The site is well located for walking/cycling along the canel. Very nice site and we will be returning
My Husband, two year old daughter and I stayed here only for one night (at short notice) to shorten our journey back home to the Peak District after a family gathering nearby , but the welcome by Helen the warden on our 9pm arrival was very warm and beyond helpful, we had a wonderful first night ever in our campervan, the site was beautifully presented and the facilities were very good. All in all a lovely experience, our daughter also thoroughly enjoyed her first ever camping experience.....invaluable. Thank you x
DATE STAYED: June 2012
Site lovely, very well kept and staff welcoming and friendly. Canal path very accessible from outside site and would recommend the walk to the flight of locks. We will return.
Enjoyed our stay.We were given a choice of a few pitches which i think is good.Cannot fault the site.Pete,Dawn and the other wardens friendly. They are all hard working.Always seem to be doing something.Toilet/shower block spotless. Can go for a lovely walk along the canal.Good play area for children.
Good idea the rubbish bins on the way out of the site.
Keep up the good work guys.
This has to be the best site we have stayed on (from either Club or Private sites). From the warm and helpful welcome to the spotless facilities, helpful wardens everything was as you would hope for. Access to local walks was easy with plenty to see and do. Local pubs and cafes were very friendly and treated our dogs well too with plenty of water provided together with dog biscuits.
Top marks all round. Many rabbitts around site which our dogs would have liked to meet! The dog exercise area would be better if the banked side was also fenced like the rest. But this is only a minor issue.
Well done Wardens and Caravan and Camping Club
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Active break,Peaceful break
A great team on duty, very helpful.
DATE STAYED: May 2012
A beautiful site. Everything about it is immaculate. The wardens work so hard; if they are not cutting grass, they are sweeping, or weeding, or cleaning, or planting--they never stop!
The pitches are well spaced, with gravel hardstanding and adjacent grass area. Plenty of water points.
The toilets, showers, laundry room and dish-washing area are all spotless. Always lots of hot water.
Plenty of information.
The dog walking area is large, well cut and clean, with adjoining paths to walk along too.
Look forward to returning soon.
Friendly welcome by site managers who worked tirelessly at keeping the site in good order. They were always gardening or doing something to improve the appearance of the site. Devizes is a easy 3 mile walk along the canal towpath and there was an excellent canalside pub about a mile in the opposite direction. Good location for trips out to Salisbury and many picturesque villages.
DATE STAYED: July 2011
This site was recommended by friends and they were so right. We stayed for four nights in May in our touring caravan. Though the weather was awful we had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had our choice of pitch and the site was immaculate. Facilities were immaculate. A lovely quiet, peaceful, site. We used the Three Magpies pub which is by the entrance to the site. Very friendly old fashioned proper pub. Good ales and good, value for money food. Visited Bath, we drove into the town and found a huge car park. We have no complaints, its a great site and we will be going back.
Very frienly staff, made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. Campsite spotless. Toilet/shower block very clean. Showers very powerful and water nice and hot. Would definetly go back again.
Excellent, well run site with a very friendly site team. The facilities are clean (although there was the usual queue in the morning for the showers!) A small, yet perfectly adequate playground set within a large grassed area for games and a large field, with a separate dog walking area, make this site a child's paradise! The site road's surface is tarmac, so easy for riding bikes around.
Superb site, very much up to C & CC standards with large pitches with hedges around many. The only reason I have marked site facilities as 4 star rather than 5 is the lack of dedicated recycling bins, there is plenty of room for these to be provided PLEASE.
All I can say is that we will keep returning to this site. All the staff were wonderful especially Robin and Helen who had only been there for three weeks. Even though it rained a lot , we still had a great break.
DATE STAYED: May 2009
Excellent site run by great wardens.
About one of the best C&CCS we have used.
Nice walk along the canal past the Caen locks to Devizes.
There is a large dog exercise area on site.
The shower/toilet blocks are very clean and well maintained.
DATE STAYED: April 2012
First campsite with new camper an so trying everything out. Warm welcome on arrival and good advice immediately available. We were considering a smaller drive away awning and suddenly there's a brochure appeared and lots of suggestions. Excellent, clean and, in February warm facilities. Right next to the canal, great for walking, cycling getting to shops, etc.
DATE STAYED: February 2012
The site is very well kept, the pitches are a very good size. We saw some wild life whilst there and it was lovely to see close at hand. Very impressed with our stay and we would visit there again and recommend to friends. Thank you
DATE STAYED: March 2012
This was our very first trip in our motor caravan and were obviously a little apprehensive about all the procedures for connecting the hook up, filling with water etc, but we need not have worried as we could not have found a more friendly and helpful welcome by Pete and Dawn up on arrival. Within a short while Pete had us on the pitch, gas and electric connected and a cuppa brewing. The site was immaculate. The showers, toilets and wash up facilities sparkling clean and everything to hand.
The location, adjacent to the Kennet and Avon canal with the towpath for cycling or walking could not be better. The site is just 50 yards from the Three Magpies where we had a very enjoyable evening meal.
A big thanks to Dawn and Pete for making our first overnight a pleasurable one, we will return - often.
SUITABLE FOR: Older couples,Groups,Peaceful break,Younger couples
Our 3rd visit to the site and as always every thing as you would wish a site to be.Dawn and Pete with the aid of their c olleages as helpfull and friendly as any one could be.Looking forward to our next stay.Keep up the good work every one it's very much appreciated.
From the first moment of our arrival we were greeted by very friendly, warm and professional staff, For our first time in our caravan we were very impressed with the layout, cleanliness of the facilities and location of the Devizes site, I would recommend this site to anyone but if I do there might not be room for us on our next visit.
Pete & Dawn are becoming good friends & this site is our 2nd nearest 'weekend bolthole'. Especially in the winter months.
DATE STAYED: January 2012
This was our first c&cc site we have stayed at and our first time using our motorhome. We were welcomed warmly and given some very welcome helpful advice. The site is close to river and peaceful. It has very modern clean facilities. A lovely site would recommend.
DATE STAYED: August 2011
What an excellent find. Really lovely site right next to canal. Facilities wonderfully clean, but more showers needed please - had to queue at peak time. Get rid of some of the handbasins which didn't appear to be used much. Three Magpies next door put on excellent New Year's entertainment. Would thoroughly recommend this site (and pub) and we will come back. Very peaceful but don't come if you want entertaining. If you like walking and cycling there are many opportunities.
Our thanks to Pete, Dawn, Tricia & Mark the Devizes on site team who again looked after us so well during our Christmas break 22-28th Dec 11. This site is a pleasure to visit. Clean, well maintained and an especially friendly on site team. They are also to be congratulated for the Christmas decorations and Mulled wine & Mince pies. Hope to see you soon guys. Thanks again and have a great New Year.
DATE STAYED: December 2011
I love this site so much I have already planned to return for Christmas 2011!
The current site manager and his team were very friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The facilities were spotless and could not be faulted.
It is located a few miles from my home town of Devizes where one can find a number of supermarkets, garages, restaurants, and take-aways if one does not fancy cooking.
It is next to the Kennet and Avon canal, and one can walk to the famous Caen Hill Flight of locks along the towpath just around the corner.
Apparently the site only has a very small number of grass pitches with EHU, so it is strongly advisible to book early to avoid disappointment.
I count myself very fortunate to have this lovely site so close to home.
This was our first outing with our caravan and we could not have chosen a better campsite. The welcome was friendly and encouraging, the site was well layed out , flat and facilities excellent. Thankyou for making this such a good experience.
DATE STAYED: October 2011
We have just had 4 nights at this site and loved it. I had my bike and did lots of miles on the canal path and Albie enjoyed the walks. very friendly wardens and the site wi-fi was brilliant as in another review I think it would also be a good idea to clean the shower block a bit later.A very nice site and we will be visiting again.
nothing new to add to most of the other reviews. just thought we had to add one for all the hard work pete, dawn and there team have done. site very well kept. loved the dog walk area, were you can accualy play with you dog off lead. also area for the kids (or adults) can kick a ball or throw a frisby. only meet peter, but so happy and cheerfull..cannot wait to return next year, smashing team and a smashing site
well done to peter and dawn for running a very frendly site, very helpfull always a smile.well done just what camping is all about.thanks very much.
On arrival we requested a pitch near the toilets, we were told "all our pitches are near the toilets". The pitch we were then given was about as far from the toilets as we could be on that site. They did move us when we asked (it was different people behind the reception desk) and told us that we should have requested a pitch near the toilets! Also the toilet/shower block is closed from 10.30am until 12 noon which I found very inconvenient on the day we left as I like to pack up first then shower just before we leave and it was after 10.30 when we finished packing up so no shower. Perhaps they could close the block a bit later, say from 12 to 1.30 when most people are out.
Other than that the site was very good and the staff helpfull, there is an hourly bus service to Devises which is a nice small town and fishing in the nearby canal and a pub very close by with a good selection of real ales.
Excellent site full marks. Lovely walks & easy access to the Canal. Our only mistake was booking a hardstanding with a tent! It was very Hard we broke our original tent pegs and had to buy new ones. Very uncomfortable under foot, but this was my fault not the site. I now know to stick to grass. Will be back to this site next season.
DATE STAYED: September 2011
Excellent very well kept site, ideal for walking and cycling. Site Managers and assistants very friendly and helpful.
Recommend an evening stroll along the canal to The Barge, very good food and reasonable prices.
Hope to return one day.
Have visited several times, each time well satisfied.Amenities always clean, with dishwashing,Washing drying.Only downside is only 2 waterpoints.Childrens playarea is central & away from camping area.
Keep up the good work Wardens, have always had stays of 1week.Local transport to town,Pub next door serves first class food.Canal 21locks is a must.
Our first visit and very enjoyable. Well kept site with good shower /toilet facilities. Help from the wardens pronto when we ran into problems with our electrics!!
Good dog exercise area and walk. Dogs are allowed off lead there but quite rightly need to be under control still.
Right by the canal- great for biking into Bradford, Bath, Devizes. Caen hill flight a good challenge!! but done it in one!!
Good pub -Three Magpies with good food right at the entrance- dogs allowed in the wooded floor area. Same 20 mins walk down the canal towards Bath way - the Barge Inn where dogs also welcome in the wooden bar area.
Only gripe (a minor one) was the pitch allocated was a bit tight for maneouvring in and out of for a very long twin axle van- other pitches without people parked opposite were available.
We are planning on returning.
Excellent site and beautifully kept. The canal towpath provides superb bike riding opportunites as it is easy to get to Devizes and Bath! Superb for dogs and they are really welcomed. The only "but" is the facilities. They are wonderful and immaculate but another shower and toilet block is certainly needed.
Excelent site well run clean and tidy we don't have children but it looked ideal for a family great if you like your cycling as the towpath up locks is a good trip nice local pub on the road juction I did find it difficult to follow the one way system off the site as it turns so sharply and had to go the wrong way to get the barrier to operate no big thing but i did get some looks
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Active break
Lovely well kept site and friendly holiday managers. Site is near to tow path for that early morning stroll. Nearby are the Caen Hill locks, a flight of 29 locks, a stunning sight to see. Would visit site again.
DATE STAYED: June 2011
The site itself is really lovely, beside The kennet and Avon canal fab for cycling or walking, One moan pegging an awning on the gravel hardstanding a nightmare, The site was very well tended we booked on age concession I produced my card on request and thanked the warden for asking for proof of age!! my husband did not have his card to prove he was over 55 was asked for other proof of age, we found this rather amusing he is 67 I am 64. Still Rules is Rules, we were allowed to pick our pitch but had to be accompanied so they knew where we were, why is this country so regimented? we have just spent a month in France with the motorhome, you drive in select a site tell them the number and pay when you leave, this country really needs to lighten up.However all very friendly and the site is a credit to the wardens.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Groups,Active break,Peaceful break
excellent site, staff friendly & helpfull
I have stayed at this site a number of times and will be back again. Pete and Dawn always give the best of welcomes, nothing is too much trouble. You always get guided to your pitch and where possible a choice.
The site is very attractive, well laid out and beautifully maintained. Something for everyone from dog walks to children's play area.
The facilities have always been clean with plenty of hot water.
The site is so well placed with the wonderful Kennet and Avon canal next door, for enjoying walks and bike rides. Next time I am going to attempt to ride to the top of the locks as I have been told there is a wonderful tea room awaiting me.
I cannot fault this site and would recommed staying here to anyone. See you again soon.
DATE STAYED: May 2011
Excellent site with brilliant facilities, second to none, and warm welcome from wardens Pete & Dawn (the website needs updating - they've been there since Nov 2010). Short walk from Kennet & Avon Canal, Three Magpies pub and bus stop to Devizes. Well set-up dog exercise area which leads to a woodland walk for variety that the pooch enjoyed - and me too. Well worth the short trip (by bus or walk along tow path) to Caen Hill Locks (all 15 of them!)where there is a nice cafe at the top to replenish with good coffee, excellent bacon butties or cream tea after all the exertion (so much for the diet!). Only one sour note - the people in the caravan with an alarm who left it for the day, with the alarm going off at regular intervals from about 15 minutes after they left. Only contact number the wardens had was the home phone. No peaceful day for us or many others. Suggestion - all campers be made to leave mobile no. on booking in. The wardens did all they could. And is it really necessary to leave alarm on whilst on club site with barrier controlled entry/exit? More consideration for fellow campers please.
Well arrived at Devizes to a sign saying no facilities open due to problems with the sewage system so was the site manger running round like a chicken with no head on with his staff not a chance this team worked very well indeed in fact the best I have come across from the moment we arrived on site to leaving they were friendly helpful and very hard working the site with any club site has standards this has them all and more . Well done to you all
Great pitches great location what more can you say the shower block was busy but cleaned like your own .
If the club do read these reviews well done for putting this team together. Have you ever thought of building a new shower block in the field next to the dog run and kitting it out with e/hook up pitches to extend this popular site
This was my very first outing in my first motorhome. A very enjoyable weekend. Good clean facilities with helpful and friendly staff. Super walk along the canal to Devizes and a good local pub. Pleasant walk into the village for morning paper. Will be back
Very welcoming, very clean. Good cycling on tow path and hills if you have the energy.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Older couples,Active break
We found this to be a very clean and well looked after site. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. We can honestley say that it was one of the cleanest and well run sites that we have ever encountered. The canal is close by for towpath walks and you dont have to go far to find places of interest or visit for enjoyment. In fact we enjoyed our stay so much that we've booked another two weeks in September of this year.If I had to mention a downside then it would be the number of showers and toilets to the number of pitches.Although immaculately kept could do with a few more.
Arrived in the pouring rain to be greeted by friendly staff one of whom took us to our pitch-given a choice of 4 pitches. We were informed of where everything was and wished a happy stay. The site is extremely neat and tidy, loved the dividing hedges, making it feel smaller than it actually was. Took our timid elderly dog for a walk as soon as it stopped raining-only to be pounced upon by 2 collies whose owner felt he didnt need to observe the 'all dogs to be kept on a lead' rule. I wonder how many other rules these people break? The facility block was 5 star-the hot water was plentiful and they always clean whatever time of the day we used them. The weather improved the next morning and plenty of cycling walking and fishing (by hubby)along the canal filled the coming week. The walk into Devizes was lovely and Caen Hill Flight is one of the most amazing sights we've ever seen. We would definately return here again. As our children have grown up,we always book Sun-Fri on non 'Adult Only' sites as we enjoy the peace and quiet, this site proved just that-peaceful and quiet. Thank you to all the hard working staff-we returned to Norfolk very refreshed :)
A clean and well maintained site with excellent staff, who were helpful and accessable. Location within easy reach of so many great places to visit.
Good dog walking facilities and within walking distance of some nice pubs.
Had a great stay and will definitely be coming back. One of the friendliest sites we've been on.
Our second visit to the site greeted by Dawn and Peter, they have only been at the site since November 2010, the information on the area they had was great and also they are very friendly, The site is on a Bus route and you can get about without using your own transport. cycling is brillant along the canal next to the site. 3 pubs in walking distance, food good in all of them on our visit. Thanks to Dawn and Peter for working hard to keep the site spotless and we will visit again soon
This site is not actually in Devizes, but in the village of Sells Green. The site is nicely situated between the Kennet & Avon canal and the Three Magpies pub.
It is a nice clean site with friendly helpful wardens. Toilets and showers however are unfortunately closed between 10:30 and Noon, but are well maintained and very clean. A small shop is on site in Reception selling essentials only. A treelined site with mainly hardstanding pitches. Beware - these pitches are hard, very hard. When booking I expected to put my motorhome on the hardstanding (no problem) but to erect my Awning on the ajacent grass. No! The wardens insisted that the awning was on the gravel hardstanding as well :o( The hardstanding areas are so hard that rock pegs are needed. The one we were shown was like concrete under the initial layer of gravel and we couldn't get our ordinary pegs in. The satellite image on Google maps appears to show some awnings on the grass so some change of rules by the management has occurred, if this is no longer allowed. After complaining about this we were allowed to park on a totally grassed area and a long lead was provided for us for our electric hookup. This was much better. Thanks to the wardens for helping us out.
It was a pleasure to visit this site, all the staff made our stay very enjoyable. The place is kept very clean. The only downside in April is the falling willow tree blossom which makes a lot of mess so select your pitch well but this. We pitched our tent on a hard standing base and was surprised how much nicer this was to grass. You’ll find plenty to do and a walk along the canal to Devizer’s is a must. It’s approximately 3 miles but you can catch a bus back if you don’t fancy the walk. There is a local pub within walking distance but I’m not a fan of Wadsworth beer and this is about all you can get for miles. Do venture out in the car; there is plenty to be had. Or just laze around on-site. Oh, and don’t speed on-site... ha ha. Top site and we’d visit again.
DATE STAYED: April 2011
We were given a very warm welcome by the wardens when we arrived. To the point he showed us several pitches and advised against certain positions of our tent. Very helpful.
The site was level and kept well, great washing up and laundry facilities.
The only downside for us was that although the washrooms were clean when the wardens had been round they need sorting out again at the end of the day in high season, as by the morning they were less than desirable.
We also found children were still playing on the play equipment at 10pm. Wouldn't have been a problem in itself but the fact they were shouting and screaming was not amusing.
DATE STAYED: August 2010
We Love this site, it's clean, friendly and in a great location. The canal is literally a stones throw and with flat walking either to Devizes or the other way to the local pub it's perfect for those wishing to have a bit of exercise. The facilities are spotless and modern, there are good facilities for kids and dogs. We can't wait to go back.
DATE STAYED: June 2010
We have just returned from visiting this site at Devizes and cannot rate it highly enough! Pete and Dawn White were so welcoming and professional and nothing was too much trouble. The site was immaculate throughout and very peaceful. It was also very convenient for nearby towns and walks along the canal. The Barge Inn was an excellent place to eat and the market in Devizes on thursday was a treat! We have no hesitation in recommending it to other caravanners, and hope to return to Pete & Dawn's warm hospitality in the future!Nova & Allan Mills
This is a lovely site, next to the Kennet and Avon canal. It's a nice easy, hour-long walk into Devizes town along the canal tow-path. For public transport, the bus stops about 50 yards outside the site entrance, perfect! Nice flat site with good amenities, although I found the toilet block a little chilly first thing in the morning, but that's probably me! A pub serving food is almost immediately outside the site entrance but the nearest shop is a drive away. Staff very friendly and helpful, always ready for a chat and a laugh, great! Only an hour away from home for me so ideal for those off-the-cuff quick breaks.
DATE STAYED: October 2010
A very peaceful site and well located right by the canal and a pleasant pub. Good walk of about 4 miles to Devizes town along the tow path and you have to see Caen Locks!!!
Very clean, neat and staff very helpful. The toilets and showers were immaculate and the grounds and pitches were very well maintained.
We were initially disappointed to be shown to our non-electric, standard pitch on a large patch of gravel which was more like a car park, but the gentleman helping could sense our disappointment and we were shown to a much nicer pitch and this was much appreciated.
DATE STAYED: March 2011
The site we visit most often due to its location, friendliness & cleanliness are top notch. You can fish the canal, walk the towpath East to Devizes and its incredible number of locks. Walk West a very picturesque mile to a lovely canalside pub ,The Barge, (you can cycle in about 15 minutes). Good sunday lunch for a tenner. The Three Magpies pub just outside the main entrance is a family friendly pub with good food and a good pint of beer or cider. Lovely outside area. Not a lot to do for the kids though there is a small activity area. A splendid nature walk adjacent to the site. Highly recommended.
Very clean and tidy site with toilets & showers to match. We loved the walk along the canal towpath into Devizes town centre. Never seen so many canal locks in one place. It's an amazing sight. The three magpies pub just by the entrance of the site served lovely home made food and a nice pint of scrumpy and with it being child and dog friendly, we had to pay a visit on both nights of our two night stay!
Really enjoyed our weekend there and will definitely return.
SUITABLE FOR: Families,Peaceful break
Lovely well kept sight, friendly welcome even though we arrived about 10.15pm, lovely walks along canal, convenient bus into Devizes every hour, pub on the corner, we didn't use but if we return will definately try. Lovely dog walk through the trees, very quiet sight and really friendly people. Lovely weekend.
The site has beeen improved since our last visit with decent tarmac roads now in place, access to some onsite pitches is difficult for some as witnessed during our stay but overall is good. Ideal for visiting both Wiltshire and Somerset by car or public transport together with walks along the canal, the pub at the entrance also provides good meals.
DATE STAYED: February 2011
Nice site lovely walks along the canal. Short drive into Devizes where the parking was good. Good dog walk and play area at far end of site barrier access small shop staff very friendly and helpful. Family friendly pub just at the end of the road if you want a meal. Will be returning.
We regularly stay at this site , my son (13 years old) absolutely loves it. It has a lovely walk along the canal in either direction where you can just sit and watch the world go by while the men of the family fish in the canal. There is a fabulous play area for the children and the facilities are spotless after the hard work of the site managers and wardens.
We've already booked our next 2 stays at this site, with many more to come.
Our first visit to this site at Devizes, the wardens were very helpful. We had our grandson with us, good play area for all ages our grandson was happy and he met lots of new friends.
We found it relaxing at this site, and with the excellent walks by the canal into Devizes you can view the great locks and finish off the day with a walk around the town shops.
The site has a local pub just a few minutes walk selling good food and drinks, families are welcome.
The site was kept very clean, one of the best we been to would highly recommend this site.
DATE STAYED: September 2009
We had a lovely welcome - very friendly wardens- selected a lovely pitch for us right opposite the play area (we have 3 small children). Facilities were the cleaniest I have experienced.
Would highly recommend this site. Many thanks for a lovely weekend.
Nice site, helpful wardens, good location.
Good for cycling and walking, some really nice villages Next to a canal, and a pub in staggering distance
We stay at Devizes quite a lot, as we visit Bath regularly. A superb site, with good public transport links, great scenery (the canal), lovely walks and good pubs within walking distance!
