Have been reading some reviews on Chertsey. Some people are very hard to please. We have stayed at Chertsey twice and found staff extremely helpful & friendly. Very clean and great for London, other attractions & shopping in the town. Great walks on Thames and good pubs for eating. Will definitely be going again. As I say some people have to have a moan about something.

The site was OK, not the best we have stayed at but if you want to explore the local attractions it's a good base.
We have a tent, the ground is rock hard and you deffinately need rock pegs and even some of those got bent. Not just us but we seen other tent users suffering the same problem. The position we were placed was good for the toilet block but thats about it. We were pitched between two existing pitches as they had been re-seeded but we were surrounded by muddy bogs. The site turns into a bog when it rains. It felt that tents were placed out the way and im sure the pitches were old caravan hard standings with grass placed over the top. We visited reception to see if we can keep our pitch a few more hours on day of departure. The reception guy said "oh your the guys with the tent that takes up half the field" Our tent is large but well within the C&CC normal tent site and not jumbo and we felt like we had caused a massive inconvenience to the site. The toilet block is modern and nice, showers on a push button timer so be prepared to keep pushing it, it was dirty mainly due to the mud from the site and someone did often go in and clean the floors. The noise from the Airport can be loud but this didnt bother us at all, flights stop around midnight and start at 6am.
Its definately a Caravan site as other memebers have mentioned and tents are allowed I'm guessing because C&CC requires them to be provide but definately not suitable for tents unless your prepared. We would go here again only because of its location to attractions not because of the site itself.

Bit dissapointed with site as previous reviews seemed good . Site reception crumbling render and paint. Toilets (men's )pretty grotty not cleaned properly . Kids play area for size of site far too small and muddy after rain as with most of the site. Easy access to site and motorway network great base for London and theme parks. Oh mind the massive pot hole on exit!

Have just returned ffrom a 3 night stay. Although weather was changeable to say the least, I found that the facillities were always clean and tidy. The showers were hot and the push button allowed for a sensilble shower time! There is a comprehensive information centre with leaflets, public transport info. The site assistants were also knowledgeable. The drive to Hampton Court was very easy. Chip van on site Fri & Sat nights.

We had an epic stay. Everything about it was perfect. The toilets/showers etc. were perfectly clean and cleaned daily. It is situated right next to the river thames and is 30 minutes away from the centre of london. It is also very near to kew gardenes, towr of london, hampton court palace, the science/history museums, chesington world of adventures, and thorpe park. PERFECT!

The staff where very friendly and helpfully. The site was very clean and had regular patrols by staff on the bikes. The only fault I could point out with there
cleanness was the lack of effort put into cleaning the toilets/shower rooms. The bucket of water used to clean out the showers after was was very dirty and smelly. This is a great location for Alton towers and Lego land. There was heavy air plane traffic the 1s 2 night we stayed but got use to it then the wind changed and they used a different route. On the last night we had heavy rain and the site was very good as in it never flooded like over sites I have stayed in. The heavy rain did however create extra noise from the river as the water was rushing along.

Site is in an excellent location for visiting London. We were there with our kids (6 and 12) so not too far from lots of Theme Parks - we bought a Merlin Pass and saved a fortune.
Nice site, friendly staff, good facilities. Others have left comments about road noise - which I've still to hear - there is noise from planes taking off and landing but nothing intrusive.
We had a fabulous holiday - even when it rained!

chertsey is a very nice site and we enjoyed our stay apart from the constant noise from the motorway and being on a flight path from heathrow airport with planes going over from early morning untill late at night.
Iwauld not recomend this site to anyone who wants a peaseful break.

We have just returned from our first stay at a club site and were thoroughly pleased. We loved the way a member of staff guided us to our pitch and helped with reversing/parking our caravan.
We booked this site because we had day trips planned in London and a visit to Legoland. Legoland was a 25 minute drive away, and a 10 minute journey to Weybridge station (free parking at weekend) took us to Waterloo in 30 minutes.
The site has a play area for children and although it was very busy that weekend it never felt cramped. The facilities are excellent at the site and the best and biggest showers I have seen at a campsite. Would definitely recommend this site for campers wishing to visit London or surrounding Theme Parks etc. Obviously because of location there is a lot of aircraft noise but it is by no means constant and would not stop me from staying at this campsite again.

This is the second time we have visited this site and we enjoyed it as much as the first time around. This time we used it as a base to go to Legoland with our 4 year old daughter and visit Windsor and see the castle. The location of the site allows you to explore London and the outskirts. Last time we were here we visited Kew Gardens. We stayed the latter part of June and the main toilet block was open after having a replastering job in the ladies facilities - consequently one shower was not in use due to this. Again they were clean and tidy and we couldn't fault them. We were pitched again near the weir which we chose but if you are in a tent the noise may keep you awake at night. Plenty of rabbits, ducks and squirrels to see and even the odd speedy hedgehog who sped past our caravan during the day!! We ate again at a Hungry Horse pub (called Twynersh) in Chertsey which has a big play area for children - climbing frames and swings .You can eat outside or in. If you visit Windsor there are plenty of eating places - so many to choose from and varying prices. If you go to Windsor by train from Chertsey train station it is free to park at the station on weekends. The journey from Chertsey to Windsor by train takes about 40 mins. In Chertsey there is a Sainsburys if you need some groceries. The staff on site were friendly and pleasant. We will back again at this site next year hopefully.

Generally a first class site with much in its favour. Its location to major attractions be it London,Hampton Court,Brooklands,Mercedes World,Chessington,Thorpe Park,Legoland,Windsor Castle etc is a huge asset. The site and facilities is a credit to the Club and staff in all respects. On the down side it is subject to some background noise from the M3 motorway. However the biggest noise nuisance is from aircraft accessing London Airport Heathrow. This is particularly so around 23.00hrs when apparently landing and take off restrictions etc come into force.

this is the worst site i have ever stayed on , we got placed in a field when the main facilities were shut down at the far side of the site . we were not told of them shut.we could have been placed closer to what was left.we spoke to other members and thire comments were "this should be the caravan club" not the CAMPING and caravan club . If they only want caravans there this should be taken into account .Not happy as the rubbish area was on the opersite side to where we were.NOT RECCOMANDED FOR TENT USERS.

Stayed here in April for 2 nights on way back from Poole. Great location for west part of London and probably central as good train service into London. Nice clean site, only criticism - a bit scruffy round the edges, could do with a decent tidy up.. Nice friedly and helpful staff. Great walks along the Thames with the dog. Loads of pubs around for eating out. Good shop in the garage across the road at sensible prices. Aircraft noise from Heathrow not a problem as they are quite high be the time they cross over. Good clean toilet blocks and washing facilities. Slight clanger in our choice of pitch - trees to close so satelitte dish would not pick up signal!! Would definitely stay again.

We have stayed at Chertsey often during the last 5 years and have noticed that the standard has gone down over that period. Considering that this is one of the best staffed sites we have ever stayed on (4 couples) the amount of work done out on the site was zero, there are numerous rabbit scrapes, enough tree debris to have a good bonfire with and quite a few areas that could do with strimming, yet we saw no member of staff out doing what I classify as groundwork during our stay.
We have stayed on sites that have half of the pitches and are owner run yet they are far superior in appearance to what Chertsey is now.
I have marked the facilities down due to the fact that the club decided to close the main block so as to have work done, surely this work could have been done earlier in the year before the busy time. We have also noticed in the past that there is a habit of 'locking off' 5 of the 7 privacy washing cubicles even over busy weekends, this kind of thing is not what I pay for. The other thing I find annoying is the fact that the facility block is closed for 2 hours and remains locked even if the work is finished, in fact we have run a site for friends and cleaned the facilities (4showers, 4 toilets and wash basins each side plus 2 disabled rooms and could clean them to the same standard as the Chertsey facilties in around an hour and even work around people using them.
Many of the pitches are in a sorry state where they are just over camped and no work done on them to try and help them recover.
I always thought that Chertsey was the flagship of the C&CC but it is now starting to resemble a run down rusty hulk.
It saddens me to place this review as we have had some good times at Chertsey and would like to think that we can have some more in the future.

Stayed for 4 nights , staff were the most helpfull on arrival , facilities were excellent always clean and plenty of hot water .
site was clean of rubbish and not run down at all ,one recomendation would be that you need rock pegs as some of the areas around our tent were grass but broke our plastic pegs on hammering in it was rock hard 3 inches down in small areas .(dont let this put you off)
A excellent site that is a credit to the camping and caravanning club.
will return again .

This was the first time we stayed at the Chertsey site but we will definately be going again. We have 2 small children (both under 4) and the Showers were the first ones we have been to that had plenty of space, a shower unit with changing temperatures (usually I find the showers far too hot), it had a changing table right in the shower so if you kept the shower curtain shut and had a small baby you should strap them in while you were having a shower and it wouldn't have been too cold. Plus they had even put a baby bath in there so the toddler loved that! Right by the river so lots of wildlife onsite, squirrels, rabbits, parakeets, geese and ducks and of course the campsite bengal cat wandering round too.
The dog walk was a bit ropey (single file path towards the side of the site) but a great field on the opposite side of the river (out of the site and turn left then over the bridge and then back underneath) perfect for the dog who even went for a bit of a swim!
Park for the kids was nice, probably the best one we have been to that again suited our small ones. 5 swings, climbing frame and slide plus a nice area in front for playing group games.
Thank you so much for a great time, definately going again!

As others have said a very clean and efficient site...A warm welcome and we were given a choice of Pitches to choose from right by the River bank.
The showers/toilets etc were very clean and we did`nt have to queue at all.
The garage over the road is very well stocked with groceries and drinks...the mobile Chip shop on Fri/Sat night is excellant. The village has a couple of supermarkets plus other shops etc.
The only thing to bear in mind is that there is some traffic noise from the M3 and at times it can be overflown by aircraft taking off from Heathrow.
All in all a lovely site...well kept and very clean. Well worth a visit if you want to visit attractions in/around London.

A great site, perfect base for Legoland, Chessington and Thorpe Park. We made a booking as a group with 8 people in 2 caravans and a tent and despite not being able to all arrive at the same time the staff had booked us into pitches all together. Facilities were great, plenty of room in shower cubicles so taking little ones in with you not an issue. Friendly, helpful staff who we are looking forward to seeing next time we go!

In the words of our children this site is 'awesomwe'. Check in was quick and painless, escorted to our pitch by staff, who even assisted getting us in position. Everything on site was clean and in working order. We had our 2 boys aged 8 and 7 who played out til dark. We visited Thorpe Park, Legoland and Chessington whilst there and all are easily accessible from the site. We are now planning a return visit in the summer. Great place to be.

Lovely site, suprisingly nice and peaceful to say you are in quite a busy area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Showers lovely and warm, plenty of room in them and always clean. Great little fish and chip van on site Friday and Saturday evening. Plenty of things to do within a reasonable distance, hoping to go back again for a longer stay, two nights was nowhere near enough.Lovely to see the parakeets flying about on site too!

An excellent site. We arrived earlier than planned and reception was shut but we still received a warm welcome from managers. Lovely clean, hot showers and plenty of really hot water at dishwashing sinks.( a particular bugbear of mine!)
Very helpful staff - when we asked for directions to places we were given a sheet with typed instructions. Enjoyed watching the sqirrels, rabbits, geese and parakeets. Sainsburys not far - can walk there. Nice walks along Thames path . We will return

Convenient for London, Kew Garden and the Thames. Good restaurants nearby. Underneath the flight path to Heathrow, so constant aircraft noise until late in the evening.
Facilities OK, but showers have no temperature control - so if you want a cool, refreshing shower on a hot day - forget it - HOT is the only option.

Chertsey is a beautiful site,we arrived and were made to feel very welcome, the reception team were very helpful and fast, and after 5 hours of driving I needed them to be!I have more pluses than negatives to report; the site was peaceful, clean and very friendly! The showers were to die for...very clean, always, lovely temperature, spacious and free!!!I was always able to get straight in and have a long hot shower!Very clean! We were right next to the river which was full of birds and boats!Unfortunately we had a torrential downpour as we were erecting our tent...so it was a bad start..the only negatives I have for this site was that site the shop at the reception was insufficient for our needs,it was tiny and had very few basics to buy!Maybe thats something that could be reviewed and improved over time?I would just add that 'Rock Pegs' are a definate requirement for this site as our pitch was very rocky at one side of the tent which didn't help our efforts erecting the tent in the torrential rain...all in all...a beautiful site...just have plenty of provisions with you and rock pegs!
