very helpful site staff - we have a jumbo tent and had not realised not a JWE site-were given a very large pitch and not charged extra.Spotless facilities-very easy walk to local town on main well lit roads. very peaceful, quiet, friendly (even the baby ducklings) and well kept site
only downside
-intrusive noise at night from nearby milk processing plant-only not heard when raining heavily!
-showers closed from 11am to 12 30 for cleaning-the very time you need them when you have just packed your very large heavy tent
would visit again with no hesitation

This site was recommended by several friends. We found the site to be excellent and the managers could not have been more friendly and helpful. The facilities were first class and spotless. Even though it rained most of the time we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definately be back.

I have been a caravaner for the past five years and in that time I have confined myself mainly to the caravan club sites. I recently tried this site at Boroughbridge and was more than pleasantly supprised. On arrival I received a warm and friendly greeting from the site manager Ian and his wife Maggie.
I was escorted to the pitch and provided with all the information needed to assist with the stay.
The location next to the river was fantastic and the site was in excellent order. The toilet/shower facilities I can say were in excellent order and are the cleanest I have come across. The site staff were more than helpfull throughout the stay
I will definately be returning to this site and plan to become a regular visitor. 5 Star

We selected Boroughbridge for a Family get to gether Some of us living in Lincolnshire others in Cumbria and Northumberland. The wardens really made an effort to welcome us all (11) bent over backwards to help it all come together, so that it was a successful weekend. We would happily recommend this site for a pleasant Friendly stay.
They deserve 11 out of 10, Go there and enjoy. It is of course hand for York, Harrogate and Knarseborough as well as a good base to explore the Dales.

Stayed 3 nights, 2 too many. Too noisy, facilities too far away, accesed by a protracted route, showing little consideration for older members.
If you have a well-behaved four-legged friend with you, don't bother with this site, the dog walk facilities are poor and the enforcement of the "dogs to be on the lead" rule was nothing short of intimidating. It felt like we were in a concentration camp rather than on holiday. Told to put dog on a lead when he was asleep in his bed on the hardstanding next to our van, and again when I let him out under close control to have a wee on the nearest tree!
Yet drivers from the holiday lodges on site regularly drove around the site's one-way system well in excess of the 5 mph limit! Are this site's management interested in stopping such a potentially dangerous offence? When you have to walk along these roads to the facilities, you should at least feel safe. Unlike a car, my dog wouldn't hurt anyone and, being trained off a lead, is always under close control, whether on a lead or otherwise. I don't have a problem with the "dog on a lead" rule, as it is there to ensure dogs are always kept under control. My dog is ALWAYS under close control and a potential threat to no-one, unlike some car drivers on this site.
Consequently, we will not be staying on this site again. The website won't let you book this site for less than 2 nights; my experience suggest this is too long. We won't be staying here again.
This is the first C&CC site we have been disappointed with, most have been excellent.
There are lots of other sites in this area, next time we will be using these!

My Father and I have stayed on this site every year for the last 3 years as we are working at a local dog show, the site is easy to get to, the people are friendly and the site is always immaculate. I have never heard any traffic noise but we are in a caravan so perhaps thats why. Would definitely recommend this site to anyone and Boroughbridge is a lovely little town with some excellent takeaways.

Whilst the location is wonderful and would make this site as good as any that has access to town and country, it is the Wardens, Maggie and Ian assisted by Christine and Andrew that make this a home not just somewhere to pass through. Spent New Year at the site and enjoyed a lovely Hogmanay evening in great company - and that is from a Scot!!

Lovely site, but horrible roadnoise which should have been mentioned in the Sitebook. In a tent it was impossible to sleep for 7 consecutive nights. Probably OK for caravans.(Hence 'Town' rather than 'Country')
Nice village (once you pass the A road) with good library.
Reception/shop on site openening times poor.
Facilities clean as usual at clubsites.

i have stayed on this site many many times over the last couple of years.you are in easy reach of many popular places to visit, easy to get to as the site is near the A1 motorway.but not to near for the noise to bother you.there are quite a few nice pubs nearby, and if you fancy an indian takeaway you wont go wrong if you go to Flavours of India takeaway. The fishing seems to be good for all the other fishermen,i must have a faulty rod or something.
Now for the important bit.
The site and the toilet/shower blocks are always immaculate.Ian and Magie who run the site are without doubt the best wardens i have ever encountered.nothing and i mean nothing is too much trouble to them.i have been going to write a review for a long time but never got around to it,but what happened to me on my last visit to the site stirred my single finger typing into action.i stayed on the site for 4 nights around the begining of december,i was in ripon at the time my mobile rang, It was magie ringing to tell me that they had been told that the site was on flood alert that night, and would i come back and move my caravan to the top of the site, when i got back Ian was there to help me move my caravan and i was on another pitch in a few minutes.Magie and Ian obviously did the same for the other campers.so i would like to thank them once again for their professionalism and calmness in the way they dealt with the situation.when i awoke the next morning the pitch where my caravan and car was the night before was approx 7 feet underwater.and i would have lost the lot.keep up the good work..kind regards to you both.keith and Freda

Very well kept site. Immaculate toilet / shower block. We enjoyed our overnight stay.
One small negative - there was some slightly intrusive noise through the night - not from the nearby A1, which didn't bother us at all, but from the nearby industrial estate - lorry depot I think.
Site has a small play area (2 x swings and a slide). River looked fantastic - broad, scenic, and looked slow-moving enough for an inflatable dinghy (wish we'd brought it)!

This was our first visit to a Club site and we were very impressed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - even when they had to "evacuate" us all at 2030 in the evening due to a flood warning (which didn't happen so don't be concerned). The facilities were excellent and wonderfully clean. I took advantage of the laundry facilities which were reasonably priced and easy to use. The instructions were concise and easy to follow. There was even a pay as you go iron and board. All pitches were level, the shop was well stocked - even down to awning straps. Nearby Boroughbridge has takeaways, nice pubs and a supermarket. Club members get £5 off a meal at one on production of a membership card and the food is excellent. Well worth a visit. Plenty to do in the are. We will definitely be going back.

This was the third site we have stayed on since purchasing our tent. It was a lovely site, pretty, peaceful and tranquil. It was also easy to get to. As others have said before me, you could hear the A1 on a morning but it wasn't oppressive and didn't bother our party in any way.
The only slightly negative thing I can say is that compared to other sites we've stayed at, we felt quite close to the neighbour opposite us. Other than that, the toilet/shower block and washing facilities were superb! They were immaculate, and fresh lilles in the washing area was a lovely touch.
I have recommended to family and will return if I'm in the area again.

Found both Site manager and staff to be friendly, and helpful with site and local information.
Morrisons Super Market about 2 miles away in Boroughbridge, very easy to find and get to.
Site is very easy to find off the A1, ideal if your doing a long drive up or down the country and wish an overnight stop-over. One toilet block, very clean and maintained. Shower water lovely and warm if you look a good wallow.
Site office holds a small amount of essentials if you can't make it to the local shops.

We have visited this site several times in the past and have always been more than happy staying there. This time however I have to praise the wardens even more. Despite our arriving at the and of the Bank Holiday weekend the site itself was extremely tidy and the shower block etc spotlessly clean - as they were throughout our stay. The flower beds and baskets made an impressive entrance to the site. The staff were warm, welcoming and very helpful when we asked for advice and whatever the time of day were always willing to pass the time of day in a friendly chat. Well done and thank you to all concerned. I would not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone.

A first for us to come to this area and we were very pleased we did, there is so much to see and do close by. A friendly and helpful welcome from the wardens, clean and well maintained site with modern well built facilities. A good thunder storm hit near the end of the week, but that didn't damp our spirits and the waldens were on call if there was a problem. A well stocked supermarket was within a short drive, keeping us well fed. A good pump ale I can recommend would be the 'Black Sheep'. Plenty of leaflets for local attractions, we tried Whitby 199 steps and the abbey, Eden camp (well worth the money and educational, needs time to see and read the exhibits, dogs are welcome) Shipton well, again dogs welcome. There are castles and abbeys and stately gardens all around this area well worth a visit.

Easy to find from the A1. Very warm and friendly welcome when we arrived. Offered a choice of pitch (arrived Thu pm). Toilet block spacious, very clean and well maintained with plenty of facilities (WC, wash basin cubicles, showers, hair-dryer). Very quiet, despite proximity to A1. Well stocked shop, with a choice of papers in the mornings. Fish & chip van visits the site on Thu & Sat evenings, but also plenty of eating and drinking holes available in Boroughbridge itself, which is a 5 minute drive or 20-30 minute walk away. An ideal location with easy access to the North Yorkshire Moors or Dales. Highlight of the stay was the entertaining, morning camp inspection by the resident troop of ducks. Can think of nothing negative about this site and would highly recommend a stay and would go again.

This was my first outing with a tent, and I have to say I was very impressed by everything about the site. Check-in was quick and efficient, I was shown to the camping area and given practically the whole field to choose where I pitched my tent. The facilities were spotless, warm and I didn't have to wait once to use the showers (though I am an early riser and was in and out before 7 both mornings). The A1 is very close but I didn't really hear it. We had some really heavy rain during one day and even though the field is flat, the pitches appeared to be unaffected. My one grumble - two families arrived after me and pitched their tents either side of mine, they too would have had the whole field to choose from! However, this is a fabulous site and I can't recommend it highly enough.

The wardens and deputies were so helpful and couldn't do enough to assist. This was our first time out in our motorhome and we had a great time. The site was everything and more that you would want from a site. We walked into Boroughbridge and found an excellent butcher for bbq meat (opposite chippy) very friendly. We had a day out in Knaresborough which was market day (Wed) and caught the bus from the site gate. (Being oldies we used our bus pass). We will definitely go again and take our friends with us who are also motorhomers. Thank you to Maggie, Ian and deputies.

Site was easy to find from the A1, well signposted with welcoming staff that quickly showed us to our pitch & offered plenty of information on the site & local area.
The site amenities are kept very clean (just a shame some people are not trained how to use a toilet / shower). To get to the amenity block from the main field it is necessary to climb up & down a couple of flights of stairs or use a ramp, those with mobility problems may find this difficult as my wife did.
There is some noise from the motorway but this soon fades into the background.
A great base to tour the York’s Moors, Harrogate, Knaresborough York etc. You could come here for weeks on end & still not see everything & never tire of the area.
Plenty of rain whilst on site but the area drained well so no problem there.
Overall a lovely site which we would recommend to most people, unfortunately we will not return because of the steps / ramps to the amenity block, to difficult for my wife to access, a great shame.

Just returned home from a short break at this site. Staff really friendly and helpful. I went with a family group from age 3 to 16. Plus I am in.a wheelchair. Both the toilets were spotless and the disabled toilet come shower room were the best I have ever come across. Loads of hot water. Even a hairdryer for 20p. There is a ramp from camping field to toilet block. Or disabled parking right outside. Small park for the smaller kiddie. Games room with pool table and board games for the older ones. Morrison and lots of other shops 5 mins by car. Cheap close fishing too. Would definitely return .

We spent two nights at this site en route to Scotland to break up a long drive. The staff were lovely, facilities great and we had a good pitch near the children's play area so we could watch our children play from our tent. It is a nice site but a personal gripe for me is that it is very close to the A1 (possibly a bonus for some) and I found it very noisy at night. I am a light sleeper though. Other light sleepers would benefit from earplugs at night! Good access to sightseeing in York.

Excellent place to stop when heading north (or south). The directions to the camp are spot on. Some traffic noise from the main road.It was not enough to bother me at night but other campers may prefer a quieter site. Showers etc excellent. I did not have to queue when I was staying at the site. A reasonable walk to the town. (Half an hour with a dog who sniffs every tree and lamp post). There is a pavement all the way, which helps. The visiting fish chip van is good, although I only tried the chips. (I liked the idea of the raffle ticket to win a free dinner but sadly, did not win). I like being able to order a newspaper.

Very friendly & helpful staff & a very well run site. Clean, modern toilet block. Level sites. Shower cubicles are small & unfortunately there is not any means to alter the temp of the shower water & they constantly need turning on as the water only runs for a short time without pressing the tap . We liked the plants & flowers in the toilet blocks. Easy walk into Boroughbridge with various options for eating out, also very pleasant walk outside the side – Roecliffe Ramble along the river. Excellent site. Was only vaguely aware of traffic noise from A1M, but not enough to spoil the general peacefulness of the site. It's a good transit stop for those traveling the length of the country.
Steps to and from main caravan area to the wash-house/toilet block to get over the ridge. Friendly helpful staff, nice and clean toilet block, and one of the best Chem.disposal rooms I've ever seen. Made the toilet emptying duty seem relatively decent !(sort of!)
Beware that ducks come on site - not a problem, but one duck got stuck in the awning and eventually found it's way out in a bit of a panic, as did a starling, later. They weren't a problem though, and made it quite fun. Having kids, the site staff put us near the climbing/play area which was ideal.
Nice and near for Ripon and Fountains Abbey which is a must to get kids tired out, and explore an amazing ruin site!
Overall, we'd have no hesitation in returning. (Good take-away's in B/bridge too, but the portions of fish and chips were HUGE, so you don't need to go large unless you have a massive appetite, or have lots of extra folks to feed!)

If people are not happy with the service and facilities offered at Boroughbridge then they best give up on camping and caravan's. We could not fault the site. The staff couldn't do enough for you. We are new to camping and helped us blow up our Kayak and even lent us an ariel as the one we brought was pretty useless. The shop on site is well stocked. The toilets and showers were spotless, even have fresh flowers. The water was always hot and showers were excellent. We tried the chip van on Saturday for tea and to be honset were rather suprised. The food was as good, if not better than our local chippie. The river the site is next to is great for kayaking, with a lovely paddle down to Ripon. Morrisons is 5 minutes away in case you forget anything, and the food at the Crown Inn a 10 minute walk away is fantastic.
Yes at times you can hear the A1, but it depends on the wind direction and really isnt that loud at all. We never heard the dairy, must be sound sleepers.
We will definately visit again. Highly Recommended

The toilet facilities were very clean and warm. The dog walk was great for our dog (unfortunately others visiitors with dogs had not been that considerrate and left poo on the field on the way to the walk- just outside our tent!). The children's play area was very small. The village of roecliffe has a beautiful walk that finishes by a great pub!

First trip as a club member and as Boroughbridge is not too far from where we live, we thought we would give this site a go, the welcome we received was excellent, everything was explained well, and we were made to feel really welcome. We were shown to our pitch which I thought was a nice touch. The campsite is beautiful with plenty of room between each camper. The shower/toilet blocks are superb, very clean and tidy, there are even flowers inside, the dishwashing area, laundry/ironing room are all enclosed within the shower block building. Where we were sited was really peacefull, Boroughbridge is only a couple of mins drive away from the campsite and is an interesting little town to walk around, it also has a Morrisons supermarket which was handy for our bbq food etc. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and will definately be coming back, lets hope the rest of the club sites are as good as this one.

This was our first time on a caravan & camping club site. Stayed over for one night on our way to Donington Park, easy reach park just of the motorway. Warden & receptionst couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely clean and well kept site. Had a power cut at night but warden kept us informed and electricty wasn't off for long. Would stay at this site again.

First time at Boroughbridge and really enjoyed it.It was peaceful and tranquil, also very handy to vist places. The people staying were very friendly and only to good to help if needed. The staff were brilliant too, only to glad to help. The place to eat in Boroughbridge we found was The Grantham Hotel..the carvery was to die for and the menu was very good as well. The landlady Sue welcomed us with open arms,i just wish she would moved to our local and i would never have to cook again. But don't take my word try it and you won't be disapointed. We will of course be going to this campsite more often now, highly recomended.

Although I only stayed one night as a backpacker, I was unexpectedly welcomed by name on my arrival. Very friendly reception and just the right amount of helpful information provided - good knowledge of where to eat locally, etc. Wash facilities excellent and kept very clean. Flat, grassy pitch and acres of space for tents. All in all, a very pleasant camping experience.

We've stayed at this site twice, having returned following a great first visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The site facilities are more than adequate for a peaceful stay. The grounds and toilet/shower facilities were always clean and well presented. The ground is flat so pitching was easy. We stayed next to the river which added a peaceful sense of occassion (take plenty of bread to keep the greedy baby ducks happy!!). Nearby facilities in Boroughbridge are only a few minutes away and can be accessed by car or on foot, whilst York/Ripon/Knaresbrough are all within a short drive. Overall - a RECOMMENDED and friendly and peaceful site worthy of a visit.

The site is by the A1M, so very easy to get to, but there is a constant hum of traffic - not a problem in a caravan but could be disturbing under canvas. Toilet block lovely but not adequate under pressure - not enough showers - why do the C&CC insist on putting in so many washbasin cubicles at the expense of shower cubicles? Negative points over. Nice playground for kids, nice location by river. Boroughbridge not a bad little town, not much to see in town itself but there is a large supermarket, good fish and chip shop, a good picnic area by the river and Roman remains nearby.

A fantastic site. The welcome was perfect, as was the care given in showing us our pitch, supply of ice packs and the information given to enable us to enjoy our stay. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful site. The toilet\wash facilities were immaculate. A very well run site. Thank you.

A well kept site within easy reach of local ameneties. Sadly, also within easy reach of the A1M which kept waking us all up each night with the traffic noise. This is in addition to the helicopters in the middle of the night from RAF Dishforth a few miles away. Site was very busy when we booked and opted for the only available standard club pitch (£91 for 4 nights). We understood that there was no electric available and were happy to go along with that but when we arrived we were not put on a pitch in the campsite itself but in an adjoining field which had just been cut to make room for more units. For the facilities we used, we would have been as well catered for in my brother in law's field! What made it more annoying was the fact that there were pitches with electricity vacant on all the nights we stayed and we were not offered the option to move onto any of these pitches. If you are wanting a quiet break in the Yorkshire countryside, don't come here as quiet it is not. Sorry to be so ascerbic, but £91 for field camping is extortionate. When we did try to use the family room to shower our children, we ran the shower for approx two mins to get warm water, put child no 1 under and the water turned clap cold once he had got his hair in shampoo, requiring me to take himi half naked and dripping wet to the mens shower room to get him rinsed off.

This was our first camping trip so we dont have anything else to compare to. However what I can say is that Boroughbridge was lovely!!! The staff were friendly, approachable and helpful. The shower and toilet block was immaculate!!!We had a lovely pitch and a hook. There was a minor hitch with the electric mid afternoon but was sorted swiftly and didnt affect us in any way. There is a dog walking area and a field where the children could fly kites/ play football without worries of tents or caravans. It was a short drive to a small town and shops incl large supermarket. Very easy to get to the site. I hope the other sites live up to the same high standards.

I will start with two minor negative points. First, the road to the pitches is uneven in one place and you can "bottom out" on the slope if not careful. Secondly was the noise from the local dairy which has the ocasional loud clatter at 5am which can wake you up.
That being said, my family loved the stay. This is by a river but is fenced off so is safe for young children. On arrival I was made to feel welcome and was shown to my pitch which was in a huge field and told to pitch where i liked. Initially we went for a weekend but extended for another two nights and that was no problem. The family washroom was also a great plus! The chip Van pops round twice a week. There is a small play area for kids which my little boy loved.
Morrisons is literaly a 3 minute drive away and you are within easy reach of Ripon, Newby Hall and all of the yorkshire Dales.
This was my first experience of the C&CC sites and I will be using it again.

A lovely site with a warm welcome from the wardens on arrival. Everything was explained to us and we even had our pitch mown for us before pitching the tent. You could hear the noise from the A1 but it wasn't a problem for us. The facilities were spotless, very clean. The only problem is the access onto the site which is up and over a small hill. If you are not careful you will ground your car. The warden does mention where to position your car in order to avoid this but when the husband is driving and he forgets... the club could do with rectifying this. We visited the Crowne Inn in Roecliffe. The food was exquisite but also expensive, however an appreciated treat. Friendly staff too. We went early evening (6pm) and there was no problem with just turning up for a table. Would definitely consider visiting this site again. We didn't look at the lodges but there were plenty of signs advertising their purchase price of £90k(!) which we thought was steep bearing in mind the veranda looked out onto the neighbouring lodge.

Lovely site by the river with large pitches so no sense of being crowded. Very helpful wardens keen to share their local knowledge. Facilities absolutely spotless - plenty of toilets, showers and privacy cubicles (certainly more than the two mentioned by other visitors!). Despite being minutes from the A1 the noise of traffic was not at all intrusive - even in the evenings when the site was quiet. Treat yourself to a meal at The Crown in Roecliffe - it is expensive but well worth it. (If you just want a quiet drink I suggest you go elsewhere, however, unless its warm enough to sit outside as there are no tables inside other than for meals). Would definitely recommend this site and would have no hesitation in returning.

An excellent site, it was our first visit. Greeted at the gate, checked in then shown to our pitch ! All amenities were first class and the staff very helpful. The only critisism we had was no recycle bins and only one waste skip, otherwise A1.

One of the easiest sites to get to as its only a short distance from the A1. This does mean however that there is a constant background road noise. The Site is in a great area with plenty to do and see. The managers are extremely friendly and helpful but as it is apparent that the site is prone to flooding, they appear to be fighting a losing battle keeping the mud at bay during the winter months. I feel that as this is an all year round site, the club should invest in a tarmac road and wider hard standings. During my week-long stay, I was asked to park my vehicle some 40yds from my caravan which meant mud in the car and the caravan which did mar the enjoyment a little. Our stay was in February when it was quiet but I do wonder how the facilities would cope in busier times as there are only 2 toilets and wash basins (and no urinals) in the mens washroom.

A warm welcome certainly makes a difference on a cold grey wet Friday, and really sets you up for your stay and that’s what we received here. The wardens were exemplary; from walking in we were greeted with a smile and given full details on the site, its facilities and local area. We had booked the site after reading the reviews on the CCC website and we were not disappointed.
This was our first outing in our new caravan and we were a little nervous of pitching up, however after being shown to our large hardstanding pitch the warden assisted my husband professionally, patiently and calmly, coaching him until we were level, probably saving us 30 mins and an argument in the process. So this would be a great site for any first timers.
Although the site is quiet, it is suitable for young families (the river is fenced off)and there is a small play area for children ( 2 swings and a slide), and there was plenty of room to have a run around, it was great we didn’t use the car once instead opting to have a pleasant 15 min walk into Boroughbridge heading left out of the site where you pass the 3 devils arrows and you can also visit the many tiny shops and pubs in the town, the Black bull gave a lovely warm welcome, a little more up market and a 15 min walk to the right of the site is the Crown Hotel (gastro pub) in Roecliffe, however be warned, walking gear is not really appreciated in the crown, it does serve lovely (albeit pricey) food, advance booking essential.
The facilities are immaculate, and warm, although my only criticism ( and I am being picky) is that there were only 2 loos and no general sink to wash your hands afterwards, instead there was 2 washing booths, so if they were in use you would have to wait, this no way impacted on my stay. There is a family washing room, to use this facility speak with reception and they will provide a key.
I can’t wait to return to this site, Thank you for a wonderful weekend

this site is highly recomended. Ian and Maggi(managers)give the best welcome and put themselves out to make your stay a good one. The site flooded while we were there but they came to the rescue and found us a spot next to all facilities to complete our stay. this is an excellent site for touring the dales or just relaxing by the river, have a play park for kids and a large field for the dogs. Had a fantastic break and will return again.

In December 2010 we travelled North from Kent in extreme snow conditions. We had booked ahead and found the staff had cleared the access to our pitch in anticipation of our arrival. The snow was almost a foot deep and we were clearly not going further. Although we did not get to enjoy most of the facilities of the site on this occasion, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff ensured we will remember the site for a future return.

This was a lovely clean site, more ideal for a stop over as there is easy access to the motorway (M1). The only problem we found was the very steep hump bridge on entering and leaving the site which could cause risk of grounding.

This site was recommended to us by Bob and Sheena, Managers of the Barnard Castle Camp Site. It did what it said on the box, relaxing, picturesque, warm, friendly welcome, nothing was to much trouble for the managers.
Facilities again fantastic a real pleasure to find this little hamlet inclusive of beautiful surroundings. Will be soon returning to chillax and take in this surreal part of the country.

What a great hideaway! placed between Roecliffe village & Boroughbridge, both within walking distance(5 &15 mins) as is Aldborough, though a little further.
Lots of places to eat locally, very pretty villages & some good walking. Roman village Aldborough only open at weekends which was disappointing as we stayed during the week.
Site very clean and well maintained. Some great pitches overlooking River Ure, many evenings spent watching fish jumping!Lovely scenery & great sunsets, well worth a long stay.
Hourly bus service to Ripon, Knaresborough & Harrogate but it terminates quick early in the evening 6pm. Definately on our revisit list!
