As a motorhomer we tend to leave the unit on site and use local buses, but the reception had no idea about when and where to get them.It turned out to be very easy just to walk back to the crossroads and from there buses to Coleford and beyond and also to Ross.
The facilities and site are a little dated but all worked, but the reception is very modern and clean and obviously fairly new

I have stayed a numerous caravan and camping sites and this one did not meet the standard I was expecting. I was camping alone with my children for the first time, and requested help from a member of staff who said she would be round shortly. She never arrived to help and I didn't see another member of staff on site for the 6 nights we were there. The site was very noisey way past the cut of time of 10.30, some nights were noisey up to 1 am. All other sites I have visited had staff patrolling round regularly, offering help and checking on noise levels after 10.30 pm, also showing you to your pitch, but Christchurch was very dissapointing and I would not return or recommend it to anyone else

This was my first time camping and with my 1 year old twins. I was worried about being a woman alone but i soon found out my worries were not needed. The staff were very friendly and soon came to my resque to help me get un-hitched from the van and then to get my gas working.
The site was very clean and everyone was so friendly. I soon was offered babysitting by some of the young girls and everyone as so considerate.
I will definitly be going back and i hope that all my future camping adventures will be as pleasing as this one.

Attractive sheltered grassy site with woodland surround. Camping is not assigned pitches (good thing in our view). Lovely walks in forest to Symonds Yat. Plenty of showers and clean. It would be good if they could put in a shelf to keep your shoes on so they don't get wet. Well stocked shop, which sells hot snack food and coffee (we didn't try this though as closes early). We would return, nice site.

Booked an jumbo pitch in advance for our motorhome but on arrival told that our space wasn't available as some inconsiderate VW owner was parked there and refused to move. Staff were not particularly welcoming either. Had to park in the middle of the site instead which was very busy and not great for our young children.
The Reception/Cafe building is lovely but staff did not seem able to keep it clean, tables and floor were dirty every day we went in. One redeeming factor is the excellent pizzas available to order!
Some great walks and bike rides to be had around the campsite and further out. Theres a swimming pool 10 mins walk away too.
The showers/toilets were a bit dated but adequate, needed more frequent cleaning though considering how busy the site was.

We stayed at this site last night and really liked it. Its spacious and very pretty, surrounded by the woodland of the Forest of Dean. You can choose your own pitch, which is nice, but it is sloping, so you may need chocks.
As its a Forest Holidays site, the shop is lovely, with a cafe selling pizzas, hot snacks and drinks (we didn't try it though) with indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately, we did not take our dog on this occasion, but will definitely go back with her as there are loads of walks in the forest all around.
The toilet/shower block is very clean, but dated. The showers are very high pressure and quite hot, the pressure makes the water go under the shower cubicle door and so there isn't anywhere dry to stand on whilst you get dry. If I had to choose between too high pressure or no pressure and between a little on the hot side or on the cool side, I would choose hot and high pressure, but not perfect. One problem, I did have a shower at about 5pm (when dark in December) and the lights are tuned on by sensor. By the time I was getting dry and probably because no one else had come into the block in that time, the lights went out! I couldn't get the sensor to notice me again by waving above the cubicle door, but luckily had a torch!
Overall we really liked this site and will definitely be back.
By the way, if you go to the Rock lookout point at Symonds Yat, don't turn left out of the carpark as once through the bridge the road is very narrow between stone walls. We just made it through with a 2.2m wide motorhome (luckily we didn't meet anyone). The views there though a really fantastic.

Stayed here for the October half term, lovely site in beautiful surroundings. Plenty of walks, cycle rides. A 10 minute drive to the forest of dean visitor centre and cycle centre.
Not very level pitches. Toilet and showers desperately in need of an upgrade, and this really does let the site down hence the low ratings for facilities. The disabled toilet/shower down an unlit overgrown path, not very suitable for wheelchair users and needs to be addressed immediately
Nice cafe and well stocked shop, however very pricey, Coleford a short car ride away where you will find tesco, coop and plenty of places to eat out.
Would return, had family staying in the log cabins and they are beautiful yet not very well established yet.
Did not attend any of the ranger activities, they all appeared to be fully booked. Our children preferred to go exploring the woods with us. There is a nice little park for the kids to play in.
Will definately return but hopefully to a refurbed shower block next year !

Very crowded at half-term and units too close together. Facilities dated and not thoroughly cleaned. Not cleaned at all on one day. Had to wash under running water as no plugs (gents) and not in most sinks (ladies). Virtually emptied at end of half time then all bar one toilet block closed. Dishwashing sinks old and so deep washing up backbreaking. a great deal of water literally down the plughole. Not the standard we have come to expect from sites that the Club is lending its name to yet nearly as expensive as Club sites with their excellent facilities. Will not go again till facilities have been upgraded.

First time at a forest holidays site. Beautiful location a walk from Symonds Yat Rock. Kids playground a little worse for wear. Family bathroom was closed. Staff friendly. Toilets and showers basic but clean. If you want deluxe, go to a hotel, this is supposed to be camping. Shop outrageously expensive, but there are plenty of shops and free parking 5 mins away in Coleford. Would definitely go back to this great area. If it was a national park it would be swarming with people all summer long.

This is our 2nd visit to this site it's a great site, a beautiful location with lovely walks and cycle tracks. The new reception/ shop/ cafe is a great addition but feel it is a little expensive for day to day goods. The shower blocks although a little dated are adequate, but at peak times ran out of hot water as did the washing up facilities. The children loved the play area and its safe and secure environment. we will definitely go back and recommend to friends.

We are avid Camping and Caravan club members and love the clean, respectful standards adhered to by both staff and members alike; unfortunately this site does not come close. The shower blocks are old with the showers either blowing you backwards into the curtain or only part working. There are insufficient cubicles to cater for all the members on site. Distances are not respected by other members for pitching or personal space - on numerous occassions people saw fit to walk between our unit and or towing vehicle! We came prepared to recycle but could not find any bins to recycle in - those that were there were overflowing! On enquiring if we could get a map of the local cycle ways at both the bicycle hire centre and reception we were advised that they did not have any! We were extremely disappointed with this site - it certainly did not reflect "forest holiday" as indicated. On the plus side the staff were helpful if not a little embarressed.

Absolutely first-rate!
Wonderfully helpful, friendly and cheerful staff. Toilet block - actually not that old, spotless with excellent fully automated showers.
Brand new reception/cafe/shop block which is a brilliant piece of architecture.
Truly fabulous location - can walk to famous Symonds Yat rock from site.
Will definitely be back - Great place for bikers/walkers alike...

No problems with this site, friendly helpful staff. Nice little shop with good selections. Nearly all the pitches are on gentle slopes, so levellers required.

The toilets though clean are dated, the ladies showers are in a poor condition and flooded because the drains where blocked the washing up area had six sinks but only one plug. The area is great with lots to do and see, but unfortunatly you are paying premium prices for a substandard site.I will not be renewing my forest holidays card next year
