What's on?
- Pevensey Castle is one of Britain’s oldest
and most important strongholds. Its
fortifications date back to Roman times.
Eastbourne is five miles to the south.
- The Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway
Adventure Park includes a five-acre fishing
lake and trains of several sizes.
- Eastbourne’s developing Sovereign Marina
includes many shops, craft outlets and
waterfront restaurants.
- Beachy Head is Britain’s highest chalk cliff. The Countryside Centre has interactive
displays about its wildlife and history.
- The South Downs Way ends at the Seven Sisters Country Park. The Seven Sisters is a series of vertical chalk headlands.
- The Observatory Science Centre at
Herstmonceux – once home to the “pips”
broadcast on BBC radio – includes
exhibitions on Medieval Machines, puzzles
and an outdoor science playground.
- The picturesque village of Alfriston has a
long history of smuggling.
- Take the ferry from Newhaven and enjoy
a day trip to France.
- Drusillas Park has over 130 animal species. It includes a walk-through bat enclosure, a Penguin Bay and a meerkat dome.
- Please ignore the Norman’s Bay sign on
the way to the Site, as shown on the map
below, to avoid a single-track road.
