What's on?
- Dartmouth is a historic, deep water port. Its
narrow streets house boutique shops, art
galleries and delicatessens. The cobbled
market place hosts regular Farmers’
Markets. The town is a sailor’s paradise,
with the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta
being held during the last week of August.
- The beaches of South Hams are rightly
famous. Blackpool Sands is in a
spectacular crescent-shaped bay. Slapton
Sands offers miles of unspoilt shingle
beach and Torcross has an area for
watersports.
- Paignton Zoo is home to thousands of
animals in 80 acres of natural habitat.
The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam
Railway travels along seven miles of track
on the Torbay coast. The Round Robin is
a circular trip by steam train, ferry, river
boat and open-top bus.
- The Model Village at Babbacombe has its
own castle and medieval village.
- Kents Cavern has a history of human
habitation going back over 500,000 years.
Guided tours help visitors find out what
life was like in the Stone Age.
- Woodlands Theme Park is a great day out for the family and has the UK’s biggest
indoor play centre.
- Buy freshly-caught fish from the market
in the port at Brixham. The town also
has Napoleonic fortifications in Berry
Head Country Park.
- Torquay is known as the ‘Queen of
the English Riviera’. The town has
nine beaches and was home to
crime writer Agatha Christie.
- Totnes hosts an Elizabethan town
market every Tuesday and Friday
during the summer.
