Oxford Club Site is great for shopping and
exploring the colleges. - C Thomas
What's on?
- Oxford is best explored without the car.
Catch a bus from opposite the Site, walk
or cycle the mile or so into the city centre.
- Discover the university by visiting its
colleges. Christ Church college has a
cathedral and was home to Charles
Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll,
author of Alice in Wonderland.
- Oxford Castle recounts the story of four
centuries of prison life in the city.
- In term-time there are many student
plays and concerts across the colleges.
- There is a wide variety of museums in
and around the city, from the antiquities
of the refurbished Ashmolean to the
Oxford Bus Museum.
- The University of Oxford Botanic Garden
is a hidden oasis of tranquillity.
- See the dreaming spires of the city from
Carfax Tower, 99 steps up.Follow the Thames Path on foot to Abingdon. It continues to Long Wittenham
and the Pendon Indoor Model Village and
Railways, modelled on the 1930s.
- Didcot Railway Centre includes the Great
Western Trust Collection.
- The Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens
is in 160 acres of parkland around a
Victorian Manor House.
- Blenheim Palace and the town of
Woodstock are to the north. The palace is
the birthplace of Winston Churchill and
has a falconry centre.
- The factory outlet village at Bicester is a
good place for shopaholics.
- London is an hour’s train journey away.
- Although a great Site for seeing the
university city, Oxford suffers from a little
more noise than most Club Sites.
