Scarborough

"By Yorkshire’s east coast and the famous Victorian resort"

Our Club Site at Scarborough lies just north of the Victorian seaside town after which it is named. It is the ideal base for exploring the many attractions of Yorkshire’s coast with its cliffs and beaches – or go inland to appreciate the North York Moors.

Another great week here at Scarborough. What a ‘grand site’. Thank you. See you all later in the year. - Bernard and Glynis Sayer

The town of Scarborough is three miles from Site. It has two sandy bays, divided by the castle headland. Atlantis Water Park and swimming pools are in the North Bay, the harbour and donkeys in the South.

Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary is a 20-minute walk from Site. Visitors can go beneath a Caribbean reef and enter the world of magnificent sea turtles.

Scarborough Castle has one of England’s first cricket grounds.

Staintondale is to the north. Llama treks go across the moors or along the coast – the animals carry luggage while visitors walk.

The Shire Horse Farm has live shows and a smuggling museum.

Whitby has a pretty harbour and cobbled streets. It is dominated by the ruins of St Hilda’s Abbey.

Robin Hood’s Bay was once popular with smugglers. It is now good for fossil-hunting. Walk along the cliffs to Ravenscar and a geological trail – taking in old alum quarries.

The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is perfect for ramblers and cyclists. There are 11 abbeys and priories in the Park.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway claims to be the country’s most popular heritage railway and runs from Pickering to Grosmont.

The Site is ten minutes’ walk from the Cleveland Way, the 110-mile National Trail from Helmsley to Filey.

A traffic-free cycle path passes close to the Site on the way to Whitby.
