An ancient, and reputedly haunted, Scottish castle with an enchanting walled garden, woodland and meadow walks, Scottish furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, beautiful painted panelling, fine plasterwork ceilings from the 17th century, and an exhibition on the life and work of Scottish sculptor Hew Lorimer. There are extensive views of the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock from the grounds, and an organic walled garden with fresh produce available to buy. Garden and Estate: open all year, daily 9.30-6 or dusk if earlier (garden). Castle and Shop: open 23 Mar to 31 May, Sat-Wed 12.30-5 (but open Good Friday 29 Mar); 1 Jun to 1 Sep, daily 12.30-5; 4 Sep to 30 Oct, Sat-Wed 12.30-5 Last tour 4.15
