You don’t have to break the bank to be able to enjoy the best of fine food – treat your taste buds to a culinary tour of Dumfries & Galloway as Flavour Fortnight sweeps across south west Scotland for the next 16 days, serving up a delicious menu of hands-on foodie experiences and unique events.
This year’s events, which begin on Saturday 31st August and continue through till the 15th September will feature an eclectic mix of artisan food and drink products from an amazing array of local purveyors, chefs, retailers and farmers. Hailed as Scotland’s Artisan Food Festival, it encourages visitors to experience the region’s food and drink in the locations it is created.
Whether you like to cook or sample new flavour, prefer freshly caught fish or a good old fashioned burger with fries, you will find plenty of appetising events to choose from. Dave Smith, the man behind Savour the Flavours, which began three years ago, has this to say about this unique culinary event:
During Flavour Fortnight you can go behind the scenes of fine artisan cheese making or come face to face with the Highland cattle that are prized by both Gordon Ramsey and the National Trust for Scotland.
You can experience the salmon smoking journey from start to finish, create your own herbal tea blends, explore Galloway’s hidden gardens, discover why venison is so very special, why native cattle produce such exquisite meat, and even sculpt a shoe from chocolate!
From tastings to dining out at tapas evenings, choose from special steak and game nights, a fine dining experience consisting of up to seven courses, a Michelin-star menu, gastronomic quiz nights or a night of curry made with herbs and spices foraged from the Galloway countryside – the choice is yours.
To whet your appetite, we’ve rounded up some highlights of the upcoming event below. Get ready to do something delicious this September and never look at Scottish food and drink in the same way again.
