Food & Drink
Visit Speyside Cooperage, where the fine oak casks that are so important to fine wine and spirits are still built using traditional methods. This Cooperage, owned by the Taylor Family since 1947, uses only certain species from oak from Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, to create these casks. The high quality of the oak is important as it prevents seepage while allowing the contents to breathe, without spoiling the flavour. Take their Acorn to Cask tour and see the craftsmen constructing the casks using traditional tools and methods, before they are shipped to distilleries and vineyards all over the world. Of course, many stay right there in Speyside, which is home to many of Scotland’s finest distilleries. The Cooperage has a coffee shop where they sell a variety of local produce and a gift shop, where wooden goods, crafted from the oak offcuts, are available.
