Festivals & Heritage

Menstrie Castle is a three-storey castellated house that was home to a branch of the Clan MacAlister and was the birthplace of Sir William Alexander, later 1st Earl of Stirling. The property is over 400 years old. Although it's not a Trust property, the Trust worked closely with the then Clackmannanshire County Council to save the castle from demolition. The Trust looks after the rooms on the ground floor that show the exhibition. The upper floors have been converted into flats. Easter Sunday and 3 May to 30 Sep, Wed and Sun 2-5. Visits outside these dates/times for pre-booked groups by arrangement with property.
