Festivals & Heritage

Helmsley Walled Garden is a beautiful historic garden, now restored after years of neglect and blooming into relaxing and invigorating environment. Visitors can walk extensive flower borders, and admire the trained fruit trees. There are even some old fashioned cottage flowers. The garden provides fruit and vegetables that you can sample in the Vinehouse Vegetarian Café. Even the salad leaves and herbs were grown in the garden’s green houses.

One of the Garden’s aims is the provision of Social and Therapeutic Horticulture. The team at Helmsley aim to use restorative qualities of gardening to help individuals at vulnerable stages in their lives, whether through physical disabilities, learning difficulties, mental health problems, social isolation or long term unemployed.
