Club brings tourism to Scotland

The Camping and Caravanning Club is a proud sponsor of Scottish Tourism Week (12 – 16 March). With advance bookings for Scottish Club Sites already up on last year which saw over 500,000 pitch nights* in use, the Club’s 17, award-winning Scottish Sites and five Forest Holidays Sites are expecting to bring even more tourists into the area than ever before.

Over 1,500 pitches are now available on Club Sites throughout Scotland. This figure was increased in 2005 through the purchase of Glencoe Site, Argyll which saw in excess of £1 million investment in the region and created a further 120 pitches. For 2007, the Club looks set to continue its investment in Scottish tourism through the £1.5 million programme which will see the refurbishment and redevelopment of a number of sites including Barns Ness, Lothian.

Forest Holidays – the joint venture between The Camping and Caravanning Club and The Forestry Commission – offers a further 800 pitches across it’s four Scottish Camping and Caravanning Sites. Three of these have been upgraded over the winter months, benefiting from the bulk of a £1.5 million national spend. At Ardgartan, the entire electric hook-ups infrastructure has been replaced to bring it up to modern 16 amp standards and at Glenmore, in the Cairngorms, the chemical disposal stations have been upgraded, roadways have been improved and a new reception office and site managers accommodation have been built. At Cashel on Loch Lomond, electric hook-ups, hardstandings and amenity blocks have all been upgraded and a new boat storage area has been erected.

The Forest Holidays Cabin Site at Strathyre, where majestic Ben Ledi overlooks the log cabins sited on the banks of Loch Lubnaig, has benefited from a one-third of a million pounds over-winter investment that has seen the introduction of Superior and VIP grades of Cabin in addition to the original Cabins – now designated Standard.

Just off the Scottish coast, Shetland and the Orkneys are also becoming popular destinations through Carefree, the Club’s overseas travel service. Carefree is the only operator of its kind offering these destinations and can confidently say that ferry crossings booked through them will not be beaten in price by any other travel operator.

Further pitches are also available through the Club’s network of Certificated Sites which can accommodate up to five caravans or motorhomes and as many tents as space allows. These are available throughout Scotland. As well as pitches, the Club also has self-catering accommodation as well as Caravan holiday-homes for sale.

The Camping and Caravanning Club Chairman Neville Ramsbottom said: “The Club provides the best places to camp throughout the UK. Our Scottish sites are some of the finest places to camp and testament to this is Glencoe Site being highly commended at the 2006 Scottish Thistle Awards. On top of this, Millarrochy Bay regularly wins awards including Loo of the Year Awards 2006 for Scotland.

“The Club will continue to invest in sites and services which will make the beauty of Scotland more accessible to all.”
