Mr and Mrs Congreve of Kimmel Bay Camp Site, Rhyl, are celebrating winning the UK title of ‘Best Certificated Site’ from The Camping and Caravanning Club for the second year.

The jubilant winners are now ‘Best CS’ twice over, with a win in 2005 and 2006.  The competition, now sponsored by Riversway Leisure, is run throughout the UK with one overall winner based on the amount of nominations received.  Nominations are made by visiting Club members.

The ‘Best Certificated Site‘ award began in 2005 as a quest to find out the members’ favourite Certificated Sites, and has proven very popular as a method of spreading the word about great sites. The competition is open to the Club’s network of over 1,260 Certificated Sites, also known as CSs.

The Club’s CSs are smaller, exclusive sites in outstanding locations, which can hold up to five caravans or motorhomes as well as tents, space permitting.  Certificated Sites are only available to Club members, but those wishing to stay can often join on-site.  All provide minimum facilities, including fresh water and a chemical toilet disposal point, but some offer toilets, showers, electric hook-ups and a whole lot more.

Exempted Camping Committee Chairman Eric Bolderson says: “We are delighted that Rita and John Congreve have won this prize for the second year – they are doing a fantastic job of accommodating members and making them feel welcome.

“Many of our Certificated Sites have received nominations this year, which shows that members are enjoying exploring the network of sites on offer. The Congreves set a very high standard for others to follow, we would like to thank them for all their hard work and congratulate them once again.”

Prizes won by Mr and Mrs Congreve included a two-night stay at the luxurious Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel and entry to the National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Show, plus their plaque to confirm their winning status.

Riversway Leisure, the competition’s new sponsors, supplies a wide variety of camping, caravan and motorhome accessories.  Visit www.riverswayleisure.co.uk to view the products on offer.

5-Van Site Certification – the law:

Under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1977, sites of no more than five caravans can be granted a certificate of exemption which exempts them from the provisions of the Public Health Act 1936 and the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960.

The Camping and Caravanning Club has been granted the right to issue land owners and occupiers a Certificate to operate a caravan site for recreational purposes, without the need for planning permission.

This allows no more than five caravans or motor caravans and as many tents as space permits at any one time, to be occupied by Club Members on an authorised area of land.  The site may have an all-year opening period.
