Club is proud to sponsor new independent Towcar Awards
The Camping and Caravanning Club is proud to sponsor the new, comprehensive Towcar Awards 2007. These Awards will enable anyone who tows caravans and trailers to choose the right car based on its performance as well as its impact on the environment.
The Awards, which will see a collaboration of expertise between the Club, What Car? Magazine and Practical Caravan, will set a new benchmark in towcar testing. Using caravans provided by the Swift Group, Britain’s biggest caravan manufacturer, the cars will be put through their towing paces as well as a broad range of assesments: what it’s like to drive unhitched, its practicalities, buying and owning it alongside the environmental impact of the vehicle. Only cars which perform well across the board can achieve the coveted title of top towcar.
David Welsford, Director General of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: “Pressure is mounting on motorists across the world to consider very carefully the cost to the environment when running their choice of vehicle. Governments are also beginning to use legislation to ensure stringent targets are met. It is therefore essential that consumers have all of the relevant information at their fingertips in order to make an informed decision about the purchase of a new vehicle, especially when a considerable amount of money is at stake.”
The Club is absolutely delighted to be involved in this exciting initiative and looks forward to this year’s comprehensive results.”
Steve Fowler, group editor of What Car?, commented: “We’re delighted to be part of the Towcar Awards. What Car? is all about helping people buy the right car at the right price, whatever their needs. The Towcar Awards will set a new benchmark for expert, impartial advice in this hugely important market.”
David Motton, editor of Practical Caravan, said: “These Awards are different from other towcar tests. Suitable acceleration and braking tests using satellite tracking equipment will take the guesswork out of performance testing, and emission levels and running costs will also be assessed.”
The Awards will be published in Practical Caravan’s August issue, on sale 20 June. The Camping and Caravanning Club’s magazine will publish the results in its July issue, posted to members on 25 June. What Car? will feature the results in its ‘New Registration’ issue, on sale 5 July.
