I am a Regional Councillor for the South Eastern Region, the Region’s Appointed National Councillor, a youth tester and Chairman of the 2017 NFOL site seeking team. As a National Councillor, I am Vice-Chairman of the Exempted Camping Committee. I am Secretary and Public Relations Officer for the Surrey District Association, and also a member of the Folk Dance and Song Group.
I started camping as a tent camper nearly fifty years ago, joining the Camping Club as a youth member, then with my family, progressing in time from tent to caravan, although still regularly enjoying tent camping which gives us the opportunity to visit sites further afield for weekend Meets and Rallies.
Elected to the Surrey DA Committee over thirty years ago, I served as Youth Officer for twenty years, then as Chairman, Sites officer, PRO, including working on stands promoting the Club and benefits of membership at local events.
As an elected South Eastern Regional Councillor for 20 years, I was Regional Youth Liaison Officer for 10 years and was awarded the Club’s Certificate of Honour in 2004, when Regional Chairman at the time of the NFOL in Detling.
I have been a member of the organising committees and on working parties of National and International Rallies for both Youth and Family Rallies, as a member of the security team at NFOLs and attending many rallies on the Continent including as a British Delegate at the International Rally at Selbu, Norway, and area steward at Ghent, Belgium. These rallies have given me the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with like-minded families, many of these remaining family friends over the years.
I have a broad knowledge of the needs and expectations of fellow campers and enjoy promoting the benefits that membership of the Club can offer families of all ages, and as a recently retired quantity surveyor, I can now give more of my time and experience to enhance the quality of the services provided by the Club.
I would ensure that the Club promotes its facilities to all members, whatever their age or chosen mode of camping. I’d aim to ensure that the Club continues to provide first-class facilities and support to all types of campers. I would like to see the Club continue to provide an excellent standard within the Sites network, and other services it provides and remains the premier Club for campers in the UK and worldwide.
