Celebrating harvest festival is a happy memory from childhood. Our local church was laden with pumpkins, loaves of bread in the shape of wheatsheaves and the occasional tin of baked beans. It would swell with the sound of my favourite hymns, ‘We plough the fields and scatter’ and ‘All things bright and beautiful’. And I loved the idea that we were saying thanks for all the lovely food that we could grow in this country.
