Activity holiday is top choice for Brits
Research carried out by retailer Mountain Warehouse has found that families would now choose an activity or adventure holiday over a beach holiday.
Adventure and activity holidays are enjoying a huge surge in popularity with eight in ten UK families (82 per cent) choosing this type of break.
According to the company’s research, a walking and hiking adventure is the top choice of activity holiday, with a third of Brits opting for this. A cycling vacation is the second most popular choice (21 per cent), while 19 per cent would opt for a water sports trip.
The survey shows the fear of youngsters being unfit and overweight is the reason behind more than a third (37 per cent) of British parents choosing an activity based holiday. An additional 30 per cent would choose an action-packed holiday in an attempt to tear their kids away from their iPhone while 59 per cent simply want their kids to spend more time with their families.
The UK was voted top holiday destination in the world by an impressive 41 per cent of Britons. America (37 per cent), Australia (36 per cent), Iceland (15 per cent) and Scandinavia (12 per cent) also made it into the top ten. Britons voted the Lake District (48 per cent) as the top UK destination for activity/adventure holidays, with Wales second (39 per cent) and Scotland third (32 per cent).
Mark Neale, founder of Mountain Warehouse, said: “Lounging on a beach holiday isn’t for everyone and this research demonstrates that the British sense of adventure is alive and well. More and more Brits are craving adventure and activities, spending as much time in the great outdoors as possible. It is brilliant to see that our very own island has topped the poll for the most sought after activity holiday destination and proves that an exciting adventure is right on our doorstep. Mountain Warehouse is on hand to kit out explorers with a whole range of outdoor gear.”
The Club has teamed up with Mountain Warehouse to offer Club members a 15 percent discount at Mountain Warehouse online.
