Overnight success for Duvalay
Duvalay, the company behind the world’s first lightweight mattress for leisure vehicles, is enjoying renewed success with investor, Hilary Devey
Duvalay, the West Yorkshire company known for its caravan and motorhome bedding, is celebrating five years since its BBC Dragons’ Den investment success with the launch of a new mattress range.
Former ‘Dragon’ Hilary Devey CBE invested £80,000 in Duvalay during her time on the hit programme in 2011. Now Duvalay is launching the Hilary Devey Collection, a premium range of hand-made mattresses created at the company’s new Yorkshire factory.
Duvalay is already well respected for its creation of the world’s first lightweight mattress for caravans and motorhomes, typically reducing the weight from 20kg to 13kg. This led to the company winning the contract to supply mattresses to the UK’s biggest caravan manufacturer, The Swift Group.
Since Hilary bought a 26 per cent share of the business, Duvalay has increased its turnover by 200 per cent, selling more than one million of its award-winning luxury sleeping bags as far afield as Australia.
Liz Colleran, Sales Director at Duvalay, said: “Since our Dragons’ Den experience and Hilary’s investment, our company has grown significantly due to diversifying into wider trade and domestic markets.
“The Hilary Devey Collection is the next stage in our growth strategy and has been named in recognition of the time and effort Hilary has put into the company, along with symbolising her love for lavish and indulgent items.”
Hilary Devey CBE, and CEO of Pall-ex, added: “I wanted to invest in Duvalay as their pitch and USP appealed to me. Having my main business interests within haulage, I know how important it is truck drivers get decent nights’ sleep while on the road and their products offer this.”
