The walking country of the Lake District is immediately outside our Kendal Club Site. The Site is perfect for exploring the coast or the Pennines and is easily reached from the M6. There are lovely fell views from many pitches on this hillside Site.

We arrived at Kendal Club Site for four days. Enjoyed the surroundings so much we booked another nine nights. Hopefully we will return. - John and Jackie Willard

Kendal town is a couple of miles from the Site. It has a good selection of restaurants, supermarkets and factory retail outlets. It is also home to the Abbot Hall Art Gallery, the Museum of Lakeland Life and the Kendal Museum. In September the town hosts a Torchlight Procession.

There are good views of the town from the ruins of Kendal Castle.

The Brewery Arts Centre hosts exhibitions and has two cinemas.

Windermere is the closest lake to Site. The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockholme is on its shore.

The Steamboat Museum runs steamboat trips and has an Arthur Ransome exhibition, in memory of the popular children’s author.

Hire bikes at Windermere station to follow one of the many cycle trails. The Walney to Wear (W2W) 160-mile National Cycle route passes near this Club Site.

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway connects with Windermere Lake Cruises at Bowness for boat trips round the lake.

Buy a range of paper from The Paper Mill Shop at the James Cropper paper factory.

Grizedale Forest Park has walking trails, orienteering courses and Go Ape – a High Ropes Adventure.


Did You Know

Kendal hosts the Mountain Festivals in November. The Mountain Film Festival is recognised as being one of the largest and most diverse film festivals in the UK.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks are required.

Eat Local

Free-range eggs from a local farm are available at the Site shop. Plumgarths Farm Shop sells local produce, as does Low Sizergh Barn. Farmers’ Markets are held at Brough, Orton, Penrith and Pooley Bridge.
